Abstract: The application of a high frequency signal injection method as speed and position observer in PMSM drives has been a research focus. At present, the precision of this method is nearly good as that of ten-bit encoder. But there are some questions for estimating position polarity. Based on high frequency signal injection, this paper presents a method to compensate position polarity for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Experiments were performed to test the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and results present the good performance.
Abstract: In this paper effect of stator slots structure and
switching angle on a cylindrical single-phase brushless direct current
motor (BLDC) is analyzed. BLDC motor with three different
structures for stator slots is designed by using RMxprt software and
efficiency of BLDC motor for different structures in full-load
condition has been presented. Then the BLDC motor in different
conditions by using Maxwell 3D software is designed and with finite
element method is analyzed electromagnetically. At the end with the
use of MATLAB software influence of switching angle on motor
performance investigated and optimal angle has been determined.
The results indicate that with correct choosing of stator slots structure
and switching angle, maximum efficiency can be found.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and development of pico-hydro generation system using consuming water distributed to houses. Water flow in the domestic pipes has kinetic energy that potential to generate electricity for energy storage purposes in addition to the routine activities such as laundry, cook and bathe. The inherent water pressure and flow inside the pipe from utility-s main tank that used for those usual activities is also used to rotate small scale hydro turbine to drive a generator for electrical power generation. Hence, this project is conducted to develop a small scale hydro generation system using consuming water distributed to houses as an alternative electrical energy source for residential use.
Abstract: Titanium nitride (TiN) has been synthesized using the
sheet plasma negative ion source (SPNIS). The parameters used for
its effective synthesis has been determined from previous
experiments and studies. In this study, further enhancement of the
deposition rate of TiN synthesis and advancement of the SPNIS
operation is presented. This is primarily achieved by the addition of
Sm-Co permanent magnets and a modification of the configuration in
the TiN deposition process. The magnetic enhancement is aimed at
optimizing the sputtering rate and the sputtering yield of the process.
The Sm-Co permanent magnets are placed below the Ti target for
better sputtering by argon. The Ti target is biased from –250V to –
350V and is sputtered by Ar plasma produced at discharge current of
2.5–4A and discharge potential of 60–90V. Steel substrates of
dimensions 20x20x0.5mm3 were prepared with N2:Ar volumetric
ratios of 1:3, 1:5 and 1:10. Ocular inspection of samples exhibit
bright gold color associated with TiN. XRD characterization
confirmed the effective TiN synthesis as all samples exhibit the (200)
and (311) peaks of TiN and the non-stoichiometric Ti2N (220) facet.
Cross-sectional SEM results showed increase in the TiN deposition
rate of up to 0.35μm/min. This doubles what was previously obtained
[1]. Scanning electron micrograph results give a comparative
morphological picture of the samples. Vickers hardness results gave
the largest hardness value of 21.094GPa.
Abstract: Blood pulse is an important human physiological signal commonly used for the understanding of the individual physical health. Current methods of non-invasive blood pulse sensing require direct contact or access to the human skin. As such, the performances of these devices tend to vary with time and are subjective to human body fluids (e.g. blood, perspiration and skin-oil) and environmental contaminants (e.g. mud, water, etc). This paper proposes a simulation model for the novel method of non-invasive acquisition of blood pulse using the disturbance created by blood flowing through a localized magnetic field. The simulation model geometry represents a blood vessel, a permanent magnet, a magnetic sensor, surrounding tissues and air in 2-dimensional. In this model, the velocity and pressure fields in the blood stream are described based on Navier-Stroke equations and the walls of the blood vessel are assumed to have no-slip condition. The blood assumes a parabolic profile considering a laminar flow for blood in major artery near the skin. And the inlet velocity follows a sinusoidal equation. This will allow the computational software to compute the interactions between the magnetic vector potential generated by the permanent magnet and the magnetic nanoparticles in the blood. These interactions are simulated based on Maxwell equations at the location where the magnetic sensor is placed. The simulated magnetic field at the sensor location is found to assume similar sinusoidal waveform characteristics as the inlet velocity of the blood. The amplitude of the simulated waveforms at the sensor location are compared with physical measurements on human subjects and found to be highly correlated.
Abstract: This paper presents the optimum design for a double
stator, cup rotor machine; a novel type of BLDC PM Machine. The optimization approach is divided into two stages: the first stage is
calculating the machine configuration using Matlab, and the second stage is the optimization of the machine using Finite Element
Modeling (FEM). Under the design specifications, the machine
model will be selected from three pole numbers, namely, 8, 10 and 12 with an appropriate slot number. A double stator brushless DC
permanent magnet machine is designed to achieve low cogging torque; high electromagnetic torque and low ripple torque.
Abstract: This paper deals with the synthesis of fuzzy controller
applied to a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with a
guaranteed H∞ performance. To design this fuzzy controller,
nonlinear model of the PMSM is approximated by Takagi-Sugeno
fuzzy model (T-S fuzzy model), then the so-called parallel
distributed compensation (PDC) is employed. Next, we derive the
property of the H∞ norm. The latter is cast in terms of linear matrix
inequalities (LMI-s) while minimizing the H∞ norm of the transfer
function between the disturbance and the error ( ) ev T . The
experimental and simulations results were conducted on a permanent
magnet synchronous machine to illustrate the effects of the fuzzy
modelling and the controller design via the PDC.
Abstract: High Speed PM Generators driven by micro-turbines
are widely used in Smart Grid System. So, this paper proposes
comparative study among six classical, optimized and genetic
analytical design cases for 400 kW output power at tip speed 200
m/s. These six design trials of High Speed Permanent Magnet
Synchronous Generators (HSPMSGs) are: Classical Sizing;
Unconstrained optimization for total losses and its minimization;
Constrained optimized total mass with bounded constraints are
introduced in the problem formulation. Then a genetic algorithm is
formulated for obtaining maximum efficiency and minimizing
machine size. In the second genetic problem formulation, we attempt
to obtain minimum mass, the machine sizing that is constrained by
the non-linear constraint function of machine losses. Finally, an
optimum torque per ampere genetic sizing is predicted. All results are
simulated with MATLAB, Optimization Toolbox and its Genetic
Algorithm. Finally, six analytical design examples comparisons are
introduced with study of machines waveforms, THD and rotor losses.
Abstract: In this paper, a tooth shape optimization method for
cogging torque reduction in Permanent Magnet (PM) motors is
developed by using the Reduced Basis Technique (RBT) coupled by
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
methods. The primary objective of the method is to reduce the
enormous number of design variables required to define the tooth
shape. RBT is a weighted combination of several basis shapes. The
aim of the method is to find the best combination using the weights
for each tooth shape as the design variables. A multi-level design
process is developed to find suitable basis shapes or trial shapes at
each level that can be used in the reduced basis technique. Each level
is treated as a separated optimization problem until the required
objective – minimum cogging torque – is achieved. The process is
started with geometrically simple basis shapes that are defined by
their shape co-ordinates. The experimental design of Taguchi method
is used to build the approximation model and to perform
optimization. This method is demonstrated on the tooth shape
optimization of a 8-poles/12-slots PM motor.
Abstract: Permanent magnet synchronous machines are known
as a good candidate for hybrid electric vehicles due to their unique
merits. However they have two major drawbacks i.e. high cost and
small speed range. In this paper an optimal design of a permanent
magnet machine is presented. A reduction of permanent magnet
material for a constant torque and an extension in speed and torque
ranges are chosen as the optimization aims. For this purpose the
analytical model of the permanent magnet synchronous machine is
derived and the appropriate design algorithm is devised. The genetic
algorithm is then employed to optimize some machine specifications.
Finally the finite element method is used to validate the designed
machine.
Abstract: This paper introduces application of multi degree of freedom fuzzy(MDOFF) controller in permanent magnet (PM)drive system. The drive system model is developed for FO control. Simulation of the system is carried out to predict the performance at NL and under load,. The results indicate that application of MDOFF controller is effective for sensorless PM drive system.
Abstract: Comparison of two approaches for the simulation of
the dynamic behaviour of a permanent magnet linear actuator is
presented. These are full coupled model, where the electromagnetic
field, electric circuit and mechanical motion problems are solved
simultaneously, and decoupled model, where first a set of static
magnetic filed analysis is carried out and then the electric circuit and
mechanical motion equations are solved employing bi-cubic spline
approximations of the field analysis results. The results show that the
proposed decoupled model is of satisfactory accuracy and gives more
flexibility when the actuator response is required to be estimated for
different external conditions, e.g. external circuit parameters or
mechanical loads.
Abstract: The paper presents a detailed calculation of characteristic of five different topology permanent magnet machines for high performance traction including hybrid -electric vehicles using finite element analysis (FEA) method. These machines include V-shape single layer interior PM, W-shape single-layer interior PM, Segment interior PM and surface PM on the rotor and with distributed winding on the stator. The performance characteristics which include the back-emf voltage and its harmonic, magnet mass, iron loss and ripple torque are compared and analyzed. One of a 7.5kW IPM prototype was tested and verified finite-element analysis results. The aim of the paper is given some guidance and reference for machine designer which are interested in IPM machine selection for high performance traction application.
Abstract: This paper presents a comparative study on two most
popular control strategies for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor
(PMSM) drives: field-oriented control (FOC) and direct torque
control (DTC). The comparison is based on various criteria including
basic control characteristics, dynamic performance, and
implementation complexity. The study is done by simulation using
the Simulink Power System Blockset that allows a complete
representation of the power section (inverter and PMSM) and the
control system. The simulation and evaluation of both control
strategies are performed using actual parameters of Permanent
Magnet Synchronous Motor fed by an IGBT PWM inverter.
Abstract: This paper discusses two observers, which are used
for the estimation of parameters of PMSM. Former one, reduced
order observer, which is used to estimate the inaccessible parameters
of PMSM. Later one, full order observer, which is used to estimate
all the parameters of PMSM even though some of the parameters are
directly available for measurement, so as to meet with the
insensitivity to the parameter variation. However, the state space
model contains some nonlinear terms i.e. the product of different
state variables. The asymptotic state observer, which approximately
reconstructs the state vector for linear systems without uncertainties,
was presented by Luenberger. In this work, a modified form of such
an observer is used by including a non-linear term involving the
speed. So, both the observers are designed in the framework of
nonlinear control; their stability and rate of convergence is discussed.
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyze the
performance of a double-sided axial flux permanent magnet
brushless DC (AFPM BLDC) motor with two-phase winding.
To study the motor operation, a mathematical dynamic model
has been proposed for motor, which became the basis for
simulations that were performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK
software package. The results of simulations were presented
in form of the waveforms of selected quantities and the
electromechanical characteristics performed by the motor. The
calculation results show that the two-phase motor version
develops smooth torque and reaches high efficiency. The twophase
motor can be applied where more smooth torque is
required. Finally a study on the influence of switching angle
on motor performance shows that when advance switching
technique is used, the motor operates with the highest
efficiency.
Abstract: In this paper presented initial design of Low Speed
Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) Machine with Non-Slotted
TORUS topology type by use of certain algorithm (Appendix).
Validation of design algorithm studied by means of selected data of
an initial prototype machine. Analytically design calculation carried
out by means of design algorithm and obtained results compared with
results of Finite Element Method (FEM).
Abstract: The controllable electrical loss which consists of the
copper loss and iron loss can be minimized by the optimal control of
the armature current vector. The control algorithm of current vector
minimizing the electrical loss is proposed and the optimal current
vector can be decided according to the operating speed and the load
conditions. The proposed control algorithm is applied to the
experimental PM motor drive system and this paper presents a
modern approach of speed control for permanent magnet
synchronous motor (PMSM) applied for Electric Vehicle using a
nonlinear control. The regulation algorithms are based on the
feedback linearization technique. The direct component of the current
is controlled to be zero which insures the maximum torque operation.
The near unity power factor operation is also achieved. More over,
among EV-s motor electric propulsion features, the energy efficiency
is a basic characteristic that is influenced by vehicle dynamics and
system architecture. For this reason, the EV dynamics are taken into
account.
Abstract: Attracting ferromagnetic forces between magnet and reaction rail provide the supporting force in Electromagnetic Suspension. Miniature maglev using permanent magnets and electromagnets is based on the idea to generate the nominal magnetic force by permanent magnets and superimpose the variable magnetic field required for stabilization by currents flowing through control windings in electromagnets. Permanent magnets with a high energy density have lower power losses with regard to supporting force and magnet weight. So the advantage of the maglev using electromagnets and permanent magnets is partially reduced by the power required to feed the remaining onboard supply system so that the overall onboard power is diminished as compared to that of the electromagnet. Abstract: A multivariable discontinuous feedback linearization approach is proposed to position control of an electrically driven fast robot manipulator. A desired performance is achieved by selecting a useful controller and suitable sampling rate and considering saturation for actuators. There is a high flexibility to apply the proposed control approach on different electrically driven manipulators. The control approach can guarantee the stability and satisfactory tracking performance. A PUMA 560 robot driven by geared permanent magnet dc motors is simulated. The simulation results show a desired performance for control system under technical specifications.
