Abstract: The InAlGaN alloy has only recently began receiving
serious attention into its growth and application. High quality InGaN
films have led to the development of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and
blue laser diodes (LDs). The quaternary InAlGaN however, represents
a more versatile material since the bandgap and lattice constant can be
independently varied. We report an ultraviolet (UV) quaternary
InAlGaN multi-quantum wells (MQWs) LD study by using the
simulation program of Integrated System Engineering (ISE TCAD).
Advanced physical models of semiconductor properties were used in
order to obtain an optimized structure. The device performance which
is affected by piezoelectric and thermal effects was studied via
drift-diffusion model for carrier transport, optical gain and loss. The
optical performance of the UV LD with different numbers of quantum
wells was numerically investigated. The main peak of the emission
wavelength for double quantum wells (DQWs) was shifted from 358
to 355.8 nm when the forward current was increased. Preliminary
simulated results indicated that better output performance and lower
threshold current could be obtained when the quantum number is four,
with output power of 130 mW and threshold current of 140 mA.
Abstract: This paper presents an architecture to assist in the
development of tools to perform experimental analysis. Existing
implementations of tools based on this architecture are also described
in this paper. These tools are applied to the real world problem of
fault attack emulation and detection in cryptographic algorithms.
Abstract: For a variety of safety and economic reasons, engineering undergraduates in Australia have experienced diminishing access to the real hardware that is typically the embodiment of their theoretical studies. This trend will delay the development of practical competence, decrease the ability to model and design, and suppress motivation. The author has attempted to address this concern by creating a software tool that contains both photographic images of real machinery, and sets of graphical modeling 'tools'. Academics from a range of disciplines can use the software to set tutorial tasks, and incorporate feedback comments for a range of student responses. An evaluation of the software demonstrated that students who had solved modeling problems with the aid of the electronic tutor performed significantly better in formal examinations with similar problems. The 2-D graphical diagnostic routines in the Tutor have the potential to be used in a wider range of problem-solving tasks.
Abstract: The main aims in this research are to study the solid
waste generation in the Faculty of Engineering and Built
Environment in the UKM and at the same time to determine
composition and some of the waste characteristics likewise: moisture
content, density, pH and C/N ratio. For this purpose multiple
campaigns were conducted to collect the wastes produced in all
hostels, faculties, offices and so on, during 24th of February till 2nd
of March 2009, measure and investigate them with regard to both
physical and chemical characteristics leading to highlight the
necessary management policies. Research locations are Faculty of
Engineering and the Canteen nearby that. From the result gained, the
most suitable solid waste management solution will be proposed to
UKM. The average solid waste generation rate in UKM is 203.38
kg/day. The composition of solid waste generated are glass, plastic,
metal, aluminum, organic and inorganic waste and others waste.
From the laboratory result, the average moisture content, density, pH
and C/N ratio values from the solid waste generated are 49.74%,
165.1 kg/m3, 5.3, and 7:1 respectively. Since, the food waste (organic
waste) were the most dominant component, around 62% from the
total waste generated hence, the most suitable solid waste
management solution is composting.
Abstract: The theory of Groebner Bases, which has recently been
honored with the ACM Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award,
has become a crucial building block to computer algebra, and is
widely used in science, engineering, and computer science. It is wellknown
that Groebner bases computation is EXP-SPACE in a general
polynomial ring setting.
However, for many important applications in computer science
such as satisfiability and automated verification of hardware and
software, computations are performed in a Boolean ring. In this paper,
we give an algorithm to show that Groebner bases computation is PSPACE
in Boolean rings. We also show that with this discovery,
the Groebner bases method can theoretically be as efficient as
other methods for automated verification of hardware and software.
Additionally, many useful and interesting properties of Groebner
bases including the ability to efficiently convert the bases for different
orders of variables making Groebner bases a promising method in
automated verification.
Abstract: Calcium [Ca2+] dynamics is studied as a potential form
of neuron excitability that can control many irregular processes like
metabolism, secretion etc. Ca2+ ion enters presynaptic terminal and
increases the synaptic strength and thus triggers the neurotransmitter
release. The modeling and analysis of calcium dynamics in neuron
cell becomes necessary for deeper understanding of the processes
involved. A mathematical model has been developed for cylindrical
shaped neuron cell by incorporating physiological parameters like
buffer, diffusion coefficient, and association rate. Appropriate initial
and boundary conditions have been framed. The closed form solution
has been developed in terms of modified Bessel function. A computer
program has been developed in MATLAB 7.11 for the whole
approach.

management, human resource management requires efficient use of
human resources. This is ensured by various activities directed
towards the area of management. Among these activities there are for
example the recruitment of employees, development, strengthening
of relations, mutual inspiring, implementation of correct working
processes and systems used by individuals or groups.
Abstract: Nowadays, ontologies are the only widely accepted paradigm for the management of sharable and reusable knowledge in a way that allows its automatic interpretation. They are collaboratively created across the Web and used to index, search and annotate documents. The vast majority of the ontology based approaches, however, focus on indexing texts at document level. Recently, with the advances in ontological engineering, it became clear that information indexing can largely benefit from the use of general purpose ontologies which aid the indexing of documents at word level. This paper presents a concept indexing algorithm, which adds ontology information to words and phrases and allows full text to be searched, browsed and analyzed at different levels of abstraction. This algorithm uses a general purpose ontology, OntoRo, and an ontologically tagged corpus, OntoCorp, both developed for the purpose of this research. OntoRo and OntoCorp are used in a two-stage supervised machine learning process aimed at generating ontology tagging rules. The first experimental tests show a tagging accuracy of 78.91% which is encouraging in terms of the further improvement of the algorithm.
Abstract: Both the minimum energy consumption and
smoothness, which is quantified as a function of jerk, are generally
needed in many dynamic systems such as the automobile and the
pick-and-place robot manipulator that handles fragile equipments.
Nevertheless, many researchers come up with either solely
concerning on the minimum energy consumption or minimum jerk
trajectory. This research paper proposes a simple yet very interesting
relationship between the minimum direct and indirect jerks
approaches in designing the time-dependent system yielding an
alternative optimal solution. Extremal solutions for the cost functions
of direct and indirect jerks are found using the dynamic optimization
methods together with the numerical approximation. This is to allow
us to simulate and compare visually and statistically the time history
of control inputs employed by minimum direct and indirect jerk
designs. By considering minimum indirect jerk problem, the
numerical solution becomes much easier and yields to the similar
results as minimum direct jerk problem.
Abstract: Currently is characterized production engineering
together with the integration of industrial automation and robotics
such very quick view of to manufacture the products. The production
range is continuously changing, expanding and producers have to be
flexible in this regard. It means that need to offer production
possibilities, which can respond to the quick change. Engineering
product development is focused on supporting CAD software, such
systems are mainly used for product design. That manufacturers are
competitive, it should be kept procured machines made available
capable of responding to output flexibility. In response to that
problem is the development of flexible manufacturing systems,
consisting of various automated systems. The integration of flexible
manufacturing systems and subunits together with product design and

Abstract: Since the beginning of human history, human
activities have caused many changes in the environment. Today, a
particular attention should be paid to gaining knowledge about water
quality of wetlands which are pristine natural environments rich in
genetic reserves. If qualitative conditions of industrial areas (in terms
of both physicochemical and biological conditions) are not addressed
properly, they could cause disruption in natural ecosystems,
especially in rivers. With regards to the quality of water resources,
determination of pollutant sources plays a pivotal role in engineering
projects as well as designing water quality control systems. Thus,
using different methods such as flow duration curves, dischargepollution
load model and frequency analysis by HYFA software
package, risk of various industrial pollutants in international and
ecologically important Gavkhoni wetland is analyzed. In this study, a
station located at Varzaneh City is used as the last station on
Zayanderud River, from where the river water is discharged into the
wetland. Results showed that elements- concentrations often
exceeded the allowed level and river water can endanger regional
ecosystem. In addition, if the river discharge is managed on Q25
basis, this basis can lower concentrations of elements, keeping them
within the normal level.
Abstract: An electric power system includes a generating, a
transmission, a distribution, and consumers subsystems. An electrical
power network in Tanzania keeps growing larger by the day and
become more complex so that, most utilities have long wished for
real-time monitoring and remote control of electrical power system
elements such as substations, intelligent devices, power lines,
capacitor banks, feeder switches, fault analyzers and other physical
facilities. In this paper, the concept of automation of management of
power systems from generation level to end user levels was
determined by using Power System Simulator for Engineering
(PSS/E) version 30.3.2.
Abstract: Recently, malware attacks have become more serious
over the Internet by e-mail, denial of service (DoS) or distributed
denial of service (DDoS). The Botnets have become a significant part
of the Internet malware attacks. The traditional botnets include three
parts – botmaster, command and control (C&C) servers and bots. The
C&C servers receive commands from botmaster and control the
distributions of computers remotely. Bots use DNS to find the
positions of C&C server. In this paper, we propose an advanced hybrid
peer-to-peer (P2P) botnet 2.0 (AHP2P botnet 2.0) using web 2.0
technology to hide the instructions from botmaster into social sites,
which are regarded as C&C servers. Servent bots are regarded as
sub-C&C servers to get the instructions from social sites. The AHP2P
botnet 2.0 can evaluate the performance of servent bots, reduce DNS
traffics from bots to C&C servers, and achieve harder detection bots
actions than IRC-based botnets over the Internet.
Abstract: This paper presents an Extended Kaman Filter
implementation of a single-camera Visual Simultaneous Localization
and Mapping algorithm, a novel algorithm for simultaneous
localization and mapping problem widely studied in mobile robotics
field. The algorithm is vision and odometry-based, The odometry
data is incremental, and therefore it will accumulate error over time,
since the robot may slip or may be lifted, consequently if the
odometry is used alone we can not accurately estimate the robot
position, in this paper we show that a combination of odometry and
visual landmark via the extended Kalman filter can improve the robot
position estimate. We use a Pioneer II robot and motorized pan tilt
camera models to implement the algorithm.
Abstract: In this paper we discuss a set of guidelines which
could be adapted when designing an audio user interface for the
visually impaired. It is based on an audio environment that is
focused on audio positioning. Unlike current applications which only
interpret Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the visually impaired,
this particular audio environment bypasses GUI to provide a direct
auditory output. It presents the capability of two dimensional (2D)
navigation on audio interfaces. This paper highlights the significance
of a 2D audio environment with spatial information in the context
of the visually impaired. A thorough usability study has been conducted
to prove the applicability of proposed design guidelines for
these auditory interfaces. While proving these guidelines, previously
unearthed design aspects have been revealed in this study.
Abstract: Supplier appraisal fosters energy in Supply Chain
Management and helps in best optimization of viable business
partners for a company. Many Decision Making techniques have
already been proposed by researchers for supplier-s appraisal.
However, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is assumed to be the
most structured technique to attain near-best solution of the problem.
This paper focuses at implementation of AHP in the procurement
processes. It also suggests that on what factors a Public Sector
Enterprises must focus while dealing with their suppliers and what
should the suppliers do to synchronize their activities with the
strategic objectives of Organization. It also highlights the weak areas
in supplier appraisal process with a view to suggest viable
recommendations.
Abstract: With the demand of mobility by users, wireless
technologies have become the hotspot developing arena. Internet
Engineering Task Force (IETF) working group has developed Mobile
IP to support node mobility. The concept of node mobility indicates
that in spite of the movement of the node, it is still connected to the
internet and all the data transactions are preserved. It provides
location-independent access to Internet. After the incorporation of
host mobility, network mobility has undergone intense research.
There are several intricacies faced in the real world implementation
of network mobility significantly the problem of nested networks and
their consequences. This article is concerned regarding a problem of
nested network called pinball route problem and proposes a solution
to eliminate the above problem. The proposed mechanism is
implemented using NS2 simulation tool and it is found that the
proposed mechanism efficiently reduces the overload caused by the
pinball route problem.
Abstract: The development and use of mobile devices as well as its integration within education systems to deliver electronic contents and to support real-time communications was the focus of this research. In order to investigate the software engineering issues in using mobile devices a research on electronic content was initiated. The Developed MP3 mobile software solution was developed as a prototype for testing and developing a strategy for designing a usable m-learning environment. The mobile software solution was evaluated using mobile device using the link: http://projects.seeu.edu.mk/mlearn. The investigation also tested the correlation between the two mobile learning indicators: electronic content and attention, based on the Task Based learning instructional method. The mobile software solution ''M-Learn“ was developed as a prototype for testing the approach and developing a strategy for designing usable m-learning environment. The proposed methodology is about what learning modeling approach is more appropriate to use when developing mobile learning software.
Abstract: In this study four Holstein steers with rumen fistula
fed 7 kg of dry matter (DM) of diets differing in concentrate to
alfalfa hay ratios as 60:40, 70:30, 80:20, and 90:10 in a 4 × 4 latin
square design. The pH of the ruminal fluid was measured before
the morning feeding (0.0 h) to 8 h post feeding. In this study, a
two-layered feed-forward neural network trained by the
Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm was used for modelling of ruminal
pH. The input variables of the network were time, concentrate to
alfalfa hay ratios (C/F), non fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and neutral
detergent fiber (NDF). The output variable was the ruminal pH.
The modeling results showed that there was excellent agreement
between the experimental data and predicted values, with a high
determination coefficient (R2 >0.96). Therefore, we suggest using
these model-derived biological values to summarize continuously
recorded pH data.
Abstract: In this work a software simulation model has been
proposed for two driven wheels mobile robot path planning; that can
navigate in dynamic environment with static distributed obstacles.
The work involves utilizing Bezier curve method in a proposed N
order matrix form; for engineering the mobile robot path. The Bezier
curve drawbacks in this field have been diagnosed. Two directions:
Up and Right function has been proposed; Probability Recursive
Function (PRF) to overcome those drawbacks.
PRF functionality has been developed through a proposed;
obstacle detection function, optimization function which has the
capability of prediction the optimum path without comparison
between all feasible paths, and N order Bezier curve function that
ensures the drawing of the obtained path.
The simulation results that have been taken showed; the mobile
robot travels successfully from starting point and reaching its goal
point. All obstacles that are located in its way have been avoided.
This navigation is being done successfully using the proposed PRF
techniques.
