Abstract: In this project electrical and optical properties of
BaZrO3 have been accomplished through the full-potential
linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) by applying Wein2k
software. In this study band structure, density of state, gap energy,
refractive index and optical conduction have been studied. The results
of calculations show that BaZrO3 is an insulator with an indirect gap
in which 3.2 ev and studied refractive index equal 2.07. These results
are in accordance with the ones obtained in experimental researches.
Abstract: The nearly 21-year-old Jiujiang Bridge, which is suffering from uneven line shape, constant great downwarping of the main beam and cracking of the box girder, needs reinforcement and cable adjustment. It has undergone cable adjustment for twice with incomplete data. Therefore, the initial internal force state of the Jiujiang Bridge is identified as the key for the cable adjustment project. Based on parameter identification by means of static force test data, this paper suggests determining the initial internal force state of the cable-stayed bridge according to the cable force-displacement relationship parameter identification method. That is, upon measuring the displacement and the change in cable forces for twice, one can identify the parameters concerned by means of optimization. This method is applied to the cable adjustment, replacement and reinforcement project for the Jiujiang Bridge as a guidance for the cable adjustment and reinforcement project of the bridge.
Abstract: A new analytical method to predict the torsional
capacity and behavior of R.C multi-cell box girders strengthened with
carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets is presented.
Modification was done on the Softened Truss Model (STM) in the
proposed method; the concrete torsional problem is solved by
combining the equilibrium conditions, compatibility conditions and
constitutive laws of materials by taking into account the confinement
of concrete with CFRP sheets. A specific algorithm is developed to
predict the torsional behavior of reinforced concrete multi-cell box
girders with or without strengthening by CFRP sheets. Applications
of the developed method as an assessment tool to strengthened multicell
box girders with CFRP and first analytical example that
demonstrate the contribution of the CFRP materials on the torsional
response is also included.
Abstract: Hydrate phase equilibria for the binary CO2+water and
CH4+water mixtures in silica gel pore of nominal diameters 6, 30, and
100 nm were measured and compared with the calculated results based
on van der Waals and Platteeuw model. At a specific temperature,
three-phase hydrate-water-vapor (HLV) equilibrium curves for pore
hydrates were shifted to the higher-pressure condition depending on
pore sizes when compared with those of bulk hydrates. Notably,
hydrate phase equilibria for the case of 100 nominal nm pore size were
nearly identical with those of bulk hydrates. The activities of water in
porous silica gels were modified to account for capillary effect, and
the calculation results were generally in good agreement with the
experimental data. The structural characteristics of gas hydrates in
silica gel pores were investigated through NMR spectroscopy.
Abstract: We propose a control design scheme that aims to
prevent undesirable liquid outpouring and suppress sloshing during
the forward and backward tilting phases of the pouring process, for
the case of liquid containers carried by manipulators. The proposed
scheme combines a partial inverse dynamics controller with a PID
controller, tuned with the use of a “metaheuristic" search algorithm.
The “metaheuristic" search algorithm tunes the PID controller based
on simulation results of the plant-s linearization around the operating
point corresponding to the critical tilting angle, where outpouring
initiates. Liquid motion is modeled using the well-known pendulumtype
model. However, the proposed controller does not require
measurements of the liquid-s motion within the tank.
Abstract: Despite various methods that exist in software risk management, software projects have a high rate of failure. When complexity and size of the projects are increased, managing software development becomes more difficult. In these projects the need for more analysis and risk assessment is vital. In this paper, a classification for software risks is specified. Then relations between these risks using risk tree structure are presented. Analysis and assessment of these risks are done using probabilistic calculations. This analysis helps qualitative and quantitative assessment of risk of failure. Moreover it can help software risk management process. This classification and risk tree structure can apply to some software tools.
Abstract: Security has been an important issue and concern in the
smart home systems. Smart home networks consist of a wide range of
wired or wireless devices, there is possibility that illegal access to
some restricted data or devices may happen. Password-based
authentication is widely used to identify authorize users, because this
method is cheap, easy and quite accurate. In this paper, a neural
network is trained to store the passwords instead of using verification
table. This method is useful in solving security problems that
happened in some authentication system. The conventional way to
train the network using Backpropagation (BPN) requires a long
training time. Hence, a faster training algorithm, Resilient
Backpropagation (RPROP) is embedded to the MLPs Neural
Network to accelerate the training process. For the Data Part, 200
sets of UserID and Passwords were created and encoded into binary
as the input. The simulation had been carried out to evaluate the
performance for different number of hidden neurons and combination
of transfer functions. Mean Square Error (MSE), training time and
number of epochs are used to determine the network performance.
From the results obtained, using Tansig and Purelin in hidden and
output layer and 250 hidden neurons gave the better performance. As
a result, a password-based user authentication system for smart home
by using neural network had been developed successfully.
Abstract: Growth and mineral nutrient elemental content were
studied in Mokara chark kuan pink terrestrial orchid and wild
Lantana camara weed agroecosystem. The treated subplots were
encircled with L. camara plants and sprayed weekly with L. camara
10% leaf aqueous extract. Allelopathic interactions were possible
through extensive invading root of L. camara plants into the treated
orchid subplots and weekly L. camara leaf aqueous extract
sprayings. Orchid growth was not significantly different in between
the control and treated plots, but chlorosis and yellowish patches of
leaves were observed in control orchid leaves. Nitrogen content in L.
camara leaf was significantly higher than in orchid leaf, the order of
importance of mineral nutrient contents in L. camara leaf was
K>Mg>Na>N. In treated orchid leaf, the order of importance was
N>K>Mg>Na. Orchid leaf N content from the treated plot was
higher than control, but Mg and Na contents were almost similar.
Abstract: The study of the stress distribution on a hollow
cylindrical fiber placed in a composite material is considered in this
work and an analytical solution for this stress distribution has been
constructed. Finally some parameters such as fiber-s thickness and
fiber-s length are considered and their effects on the distribution of
stress have been investigated. For finding the governing relations,
continuity equations for the axisymmetric problem in cylindrical
coordinate (r,o,z) are considered. Then by assuming some conditions
and solving the governing equations and applying the boundary
conditions, an equation relates the stress applied to the representative
volume element with the stress distribution on the fiber has been
found.
Abstract: The effect of seed inoculation by VA- mycorrhiza and
different levels of phosphorus fertilizer on growth and yield of
sunflower (Azargol cultivar) was studied in experiment farm of
Islamic Azad University, Karaj Branch during 2008 growing season.
The experiment treatments were arranged in factorial based on a
complete randomized block design with three replications. Four
phosphorus fertilizer levels of 25%, 50% 75% and 100% P
recommended with two levels of Mycorrhiza: with and without
Mycorrhiza (control) were assigned in a factorial combination.
Results showed that head diameter, number of seeds in head, seed
yield and oil yield were significantly higher in inoculated plants than
in non-inoculated plants. Head diameter, number of seeds in head,
1000 seeds weight, biological yield, seed yield and oil yield increased
with increasing P level above 75% P recommended in non-inoculated
plants, whereas no significant difference was observed between 75%
and 100% P recommended. The positive effect of mycorrhizal
inoculation decreased with increasing P levels due to decreased
percent root colonization at higher P levels. According to the results
of this experiment, application of mycorrhiza in present of 50% P
recommended had an appropriate performance and could increase
seed yield and oil production to an acceptable level, so it could be
considered as a suitable substitute for chemical phosphorus fertilizer
in organic agricultural systems.
Abstract: Super-quadrics can represent a set of implicit surfaces,
which can be used furthermore as primitive surfaces to construct a
complex object via Boolean set operations in implicit surface
modeling. In fact, super-quadrics were developed to create a
parametric surface by performing spherical product on two parametric
curves and some of the resulting parametric surfaces were also
represented as implicit surfaces. However, because not every
parametric curve can be redefined implicitly, this causes only implicit
super-elliptic and super-hyperbolic curves are applied to perform
spherical product and so only implicit super-ellipsoids and
hyperboloids are developed in super-quadrics. To create implicit
surfaces with more diverse shapes than super-quadrics, this paper
proposes an implicit representation of spherical product, which
performs spherical product on two implicit curves like super-quadrics
do. By means of the implicit representation, many new implicit curves
such as polygonal, star-shaped and rose-shaped curves can be used to
develop new implicit surfaces with a greater variety of shapes than
super-quadrics, such as polyhedrons, hyper-ellipsoids, superhyperboloids
and hyper-toroids containing star-shaped and roseshaped
major and minor circles. Besides, the newly developed implicit
surfaces can also be used to define new primitive implicit surfaces for
constructing a more complex implicit surface in implicit surface
modeling.
Abstract: This paper maps the structure of the social network of
the 2011 class ofsixty graduate students of the Masters of Science
(Knowledge Management) programme at the Nanyang Technological
University, based on their friending relationships on Facebook. To
ensure anonymity, actual names were not used. Instead, they were
replaced with codes constructed from their gender, nationality, mode
of study, year of enrollment and a unique number. The relationships
between friends within the class, and among the seniors and alumni
of the programme wereplotted. UCINet and Pajek were used to plot
the sociogram, to compute the density, inclusivity, and degree,
global, betweenness, and Bonacich centralities, to partition the
students into two groups, namely, active and peripheral, and to
identify the cut-points. Homophily was investigated, and it was
observed for nationality and study mode. The groups students formed
on Facebook were also studied, and of fifteen groups, eight were
classified as dead, which we defined as those that have been inactive
for over two months.
Abstract: Recently the usefulness of Concept Abduction, a novel non-monotonic inference service for Description Logics (DLs), has been argued in the context of ontology-based applications such as semantic matchmaking and resource retrieval. Based on tableau calculus, a method has been proposed to realize this reasoning task in ALN, a description logic that supports simple cardinality restrictions as well as other basic constructors. However, in many ontology-based systems, the representation of ontology would require expressive formalisms for capturing domain-specific constraints, this language is not sufficient. In order to increase the applicability of the abductive reasoning method in such contexts, we would like to present in the scope of this paper an extension of the tableaux-based algorithm for dealing with concepts represented inALCQ, the description logic that extends ALN with full concept negation and quantified number restrictions.
Abstract: This paper presents the results of an experimental
investigation carried out to evaluate the shrinkage of High Strength
Concrete. High Strength Concrete is made by partially replacement of
cement by flyash and silica fume. The shrinkage of High Strength
Concrete has been studied using the different types of coarse and fine
aggregates i.e. Sandstone and Granite of 12.5 mm size and Yamuna
and Badarpur Sand. The Mix proportion of concrete is 1:0.8:2.2 with
water cement ratio as 0.30. Superplasticizer dose @ of 2% by weight
of cement is added to achieve the required degree of workability in
terms of compaction factor.
From the test results of the above investigation it can be concluded
that the shrinkage strain of High Strength Concrete increases with
age. The shrinkage strain of concrete with replacement of cement by
10% of Flyash and Silica fume respectively at various ages are more
(6 to 10%) than the shrinkage strain of concrete without Flyash and
Silica fume. The shrinkage strain of concrete with Badarpur sand as
Fine aggregate at 90 days is slightly less (10%) than that of concrete
with Yamuna Sand. Further, the shrinkage strain of concrete with
Granite as Coarse aggregate at 90 days is slightly less (6 to 7%) than
that of concrete with Sand stone as aggregate of same size. The
shrinkage strain of High Strength Concrete is also compared with that
of normal strength concrete. Test results show that the shrinkage
strain of high strength concrete is less than that of normal strength
concrete.
Abstract: For the electrical metrics that describe photovoltaic
cell performance are inherently multivariate in nature, use of a
univariate, or one variable, statistical process control chart can have
important limitations. Development of a comprehensive process
control strategy is known to be significantly beneficial to reducing
process variability that ultimately drives up the manufacturing cost
photovoltaic cells. The multivariate moving average or MMA chart,
is applied to the electrical metrics of photovoltaic cells to illustrate
the improved sensitivity on process variability this method of control
charting offers. The result show the ability of the MMA chart to
expand to as any variables as needed, suggests an application
with multiple photovoltaic electrical metrics being used in
concert to determine the processes state of control.
Abstract: We describe a novel method for removing noise (in wavelet domain) of unknown variance from microarrays. The method is based on a smoothing of the coefficients of the highest subbands. Specifically, we decompose the noisy microarray into wavelet subbands, apply smoothing within each highest subband, and reconstruct a microarray from the modified wavelet coefficients. This process is applied a single time, and exclusively to the first level of decomposition, i.e., in most of the cases, it is not necessary a multirresoltuion analysis. Denoising results compare favorably to the most of methods in use at the moment.
Abstract: In this research, an anaerobic co-digestion using decanter cake from palm oil mill industry to improve the biogas production from frozen seafood wastewater is studied using Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) process. The experiments were conducted in laboratory-scale. The suitable Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) was observed in CSTR experiments with 24 hours of mixing time using the mechanical mixer. The HRT of CSTR process impacts on the efficiency of biogas production. The best performance for biogas production using CSTR process was the anaerobic codigestion for 20 days of HRT with the maximum methane production rate of 1.86 l/d and the average maximum methane production of 64.6%. The result can be concluded that the decanter cake can improve biogas productivity of frozen seafood wastewater.
Abstract: Employing a recently introduced unified adaptive filter
theory, we show how the performance of a large number of important
adaptive filter algorithms can be predicted within a general framework
in nonstationary environment. This approach is based on energy conservation
arguments and does not need to assume a Gaussian or white
distribution for the regressors. This general performance analysis can
be used to evaluate the mean square performance of the Least Mean
Square (LMS) algorithm, its normalized version (NLMS), the family
of Affine Projection Algorithms (APA), the Recursive Least Squares
(RLS), the Data-Reusing LMS (DR-LMS), its normalized version
(NDR-LMS), the Block Least Mean Squares (BLMS), the Block
Normalized LMS (BNLMS), the Transform Domain Adaptive Filters
(TDAF) and the Subband Adaptive Filters (SAF) in nonstationary
environment. Also, we establish the general expressions for the
steady-state excess mean square in this environment for all these
adaptive algorithms. Finally, we demonstrate through simulations that
these results are useful in predicting the adaptive filter performance.
Abstract: This article provides partial evaluation index and its
standard of sports aerobics, including the following 12 indexes: health
vitality, coordination, flexibility, accuracy, pace, endurance, elasticity,
self-confidence, form, control, uniformity and musicality. The
three-layer BP artificial neural network model including input layer,
hidden layer and output layer is established. The result shows that the
model can well reflect the non-linear relationship between the
performance of 12 indexes and the overall performance. The predicted
value of each sample is very close to the true value, with a relative
error fluctuating around of 5%, and the network training is successful.
It shows that BP network has high prediction accuracy and good
generalization capacity if being applied in sports aerobics performance
evaluation after effective training.
Abstract: In this paper, we implement a modern serial backplane
platform for telecommunication inter-rack systems. For combination
high reliability and low cost protocol property, we applied high level
data link control (HDLC) protocol with low voltage differential
signaling (LVDS) bus for card to card communicated over backplane.
HDLC protocol is a high performance with several operation modes
and is famous in telecommunication systems. LVDS bus is a high
reliability with high immunity against electromagnetic interference
(EMI) and noise.
