Abstract: Strain sensors based on a change in resistance are
well established for the measurement of forces, stresses, or material
fatigue. Within the scope of this paper, fully additive manufactured
strain sensors were produced using an ink of silver nanoparticles.
Their behavior was evaluated by periodic tensile tests. Printed
strain sensors exhibit two advantages: Their measuring grid is
adaptable to the use case and they do not need a carrier-foil,
as the measuring structure can be printed directly onto a thin
sprayed varnish layer on the aluminum specimen. In order to
compare quality characteristics, the sensors have been manufactured
using two different technologies, namely aerosoljet-printing and
micropipette-dispensing. Both processes produce structures which
exhibit continuous features (in contrast to what can be achieved with
droplets during inkjet printing). Briefly summarized the results show
that aerosoljet-printing is the preferable technology for specimen with
non-planar surfaces whereas both technologies are suitable for flat
specimen.
Abstract: The Regional Conference to Restructure Psychiatric Care in Latin America, convened by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in 1990, oriented the Brazilian Federal Act in 2001 that stipulated the psychiatric reform which requires deinstitutionalization and community-based treatment. Since then, the 15 years’ experience of different working teams in mental health led an academic working group – supervisors from personal practices, professors and researchers – to discuss certain clinical issues, as well as supervisions, and to organize colloquia in different cities as a methodology. These colloquia count on the participation of different working teams from the cities in which they are held, with team members with different levels of educational degrees and prior experiences, in order to increase dialogue right where it does not always appear to be possible. The principal aim of these colloquia is to gain interlocution between practitioners and academics. Working with the theory of case constructions, this methodology revealed itself helpful in unfolding new solutions. The paper also observes that there is not always harmony between what the psychiatric reform demands and clinical ethics.
Abstract: Identifying, structuring, and racking the most important factors related to improving athletes’ performances could pave the way for improve training system. The purpose of this study was to identify the relative importance factors to improve performance of the of judo athletes with visual impairments, including blindness by using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). After reviewing the literature, the relative importance of factors affecting performance of the blind judo was selected. A group of expert reviewed the first draft of the questionnaires, and then finally selected performance factors were classified into the major categories of techniques, physical fitness, and psychological categories. Later, a pre-selected experts group was asked to review the final version of questionnaire and confirm the priories of performance factors. The order of priority was determined by performing pairwise comparisons using Expert Choice 2000. Results indicated that “grappling” (.303) and “throwing” (.234) were the most important lower hierarchy factors for blind judo skills. In addition, the most important physical factors affecting performance were “muscular strength and endurance” (.238). Further, among other psychological factors “competitive anxiety” (.393) was important factor that affects performance. It is important to offer psychological skills training to reduce anxiety of judo athletes with visual impairments and blindness, so they can compete in their optimal states. These findings offer insights into what should be considered when determining factors to improve performance of judo athletes with visual impairments and blindness.
Abstract: The present study evaluates the properties of class F fly ash as a replacement of natural materials in civil engineering construction industry. The low-lime flash similar to class F is the prime variety generated in India, although it has significantly smaller volumes of high-lime fly ash as compared to class C. The chemical and physical characterization of the sample is carried out with the number of experimental approaches in order to investigate all relevant features present in the samples. For chemical analysis, elementary quantitative results from point analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) techniques were used to identify the element images of different fractions. The physical properties found very close to the range of common soils. Furthermore, the fly ash-based bricks were prepared by the same sample of class F fly ash and the results of compressive strength similar to that of Standard Clay Brick Grade 1 available in the local market of India.
Abstract: Nondestructive deflection testing has been accepted widely as a cost-effective tool for evaluating the structural condition of airfield pavements. Backcalculation of pavement layer moduli can be used to characterize the pavement existing condition in order to compute the load bearing capacity of pavement. This paper presents an improved best-fit backcalculation methodology based on deflection predictions obtained using finite element method (FEM). The best-fit approach is based on minimizing the squared error between falling weight deflectometer (FWD) measured deflections and FEM predicted deflections. Then, concrete elastic modulus and modulus of subgrade reaction were back-calculated using Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD) deflections collected at the National Airport Pavement Testing Facility (NAPTF) test site. It is an alternative and more versatile method in considering concrete slab geometry and HWD testing locations compared to methods currently available.
Abstract: Software development for complex systems requires
efficient and automatic tools that can be used to verify the
satisfiability of some critical properties such as security ones. With
the emergence of Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP), considerable
work has been done in order to better modularize the separation of
concerns in the software design and implementation. The goal is to
prevent the cross-cutting concerns to be scattered across the multiple
modules of the program and tangled with other modules. One of the
key challenges in the aspect-oriented programs is to be sure that all
the pieces put together at the weaving time ensure the satisfiability
of the overall system requirements. Our paper focuses on this problem and proposes a formal property
verification approach for a given property from the woven program.
The approach is based on the control flow graph (CFG) of the
woven program, and the use of a satisfiability modulo theories (SMT)
solver to check whether each property (represented par one aspect)
is satisfied or not once the weaving is done.
Abstract: Mobile operators deal with increasing in the data traffic as a critical issue. As a result, a vital responsibility of the operators is to deal with such a trend in order to create added values. This paper addresses a bundling method in a Canvas business model in a WiFi Data Offloading (WDO) strategy by which some elements of the model may be affected. In the proposed method, it is supposed to sell a number of data packages for subscribers in which there are some packages with a free given volume of data-offloaded WiFi complimentary. The paper on hands analyses this method in the views of attractiveness and profitability. The results demonstrate that the quality of implementation of the WDO strongly affects the final result and helps the decision maker to make the best one.
Abstract: Wind energy is associated with many geographical factors including wind speed, climate change, surface topography, environmental impacts, and several economic factors, most notably the advancement of wind technology and energy prices. It is the fastest-growing and least economically expensive method for generating electricity. Wind energy generation is directly related to the characteristics of spatial wind. Therefore, the feasibility study for the wind energy conversion system is based on the value of the energy obtained relative to the initial investment and the cost of operation and maintenance. In Kuwait, wind energy is an appropriate choice as a source of energy generation. It can be used in groundwater extraction in agricultural areas such as Al-Abdali in the north and Al-Wafra in the south, or in fresh and brackish groundwater fields or remote and isolated locations such as border areas and projects away from conventional power electricity services, to take advantage of alternative energy, reduce pollutants, and reduce energy production costs. The study covers the State of Kuwait with an exception of metropolitan area. Climatic data were attained through the readings of eight distributed monitoring stations affiliated with Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). The data were used to assess the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual available wind energy accessible for utilization. The researchers applied the Suitability Model to analyze the study by using the ArcGIS program. It is a model of spatial analysis that compares more than one location based on grading weights to choose the most suitable one. The study criteria are: the average annual wind speed, land use, topography of land, distance from the main road networks, urban areas. According to the previous criteria, the four proposed locations to establish wind farm projects are selected based on the weights of the degree of suitability (excellent, good, average, and poor). The percentage of areas that represents the most suitable locations with an excellent rank (4) is 8% of Kuwait’s area. It is relatively distributed as follows: Al-Shqaya, Al-Dabdeba, Al-Salmi (5.22%), Al-Abdali (1.22%), Umm al-Hayman (0.70%), North Wafra and Al-Shaqeeq (0.86%). The study recommends to decision-makers to consider the proposed location (No.1), (Al-Shqaya, Al-Dabdaba, and Al-Salmi) as the most suitable location for future development of wind farms in Kuwait, this location is economically feasible.
Abstract: This paper presents an optimization method based
on genetic algorithm for the energy management inside buildings
developed in the frame of the project Smart Living Lab (SLL)
in Fribourg (Switzerland). This algorithm optimizes the interaction
between renewable energy production, storage systems and energy
consumers. In comparison with standard algorithms, the innovative
aspect of this project is the extension of the smart regulation
over three simultaneous criteria: the energy self-consumption, the
decrease of greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs. The
genetic algorithm approach was chosen due to the large quantity
of optimization variables and the non-linearity of the optimization
function. The optimization process includes also real time data of the
building as well as weather forecast and users habits. This information
is used by a physical model of the building energy resources to predict
the future energy production and needs, to select the best energetic
strategy, to combine production or storage of energy in order to
guarantee the demand of electrical and thermal energy. The principle
of operation of the algorithm as well as typical output example of
the algorithm is presented.
Abstract: Nowadays, there is an increasing attention to the resources scarcity issues. Because of failure in present patterns in the field of the allocation of exhaustible resources between generations and the challenges related to economic justice supply, it is supposed, to present a pattern from the Islamic perspective in this essay. By using content analysis of religious texts, we conclude that governments should remove the gap which is exists between the per capita income of the poor and their minimum consumption (necessary consumption). In order to preserve the exhaustible resources for poor people) not for all), between all generations, government should invest exhaustible resources on endless resources according to Hartwick’s criteria and should spend these benefits for poor people. But, if benefits did not cover the gap between minimum consumption and per capita income of poor levels in one generation, in this case, the government is responsible for covering this gap through the direct consumption of exhaustible resources. For an exact answer to this question, ‘how much of exhaustible resources should expense to maintain justice between generations?’ The theoretical and mathematical modeling has been used and proper function has been provided. The consumption pattern is presented for economic policy makers in Muslim countries, and non-Muslim even, it can be useful.
Abstract: Obesity and overweight is one of the most common metabolic disorders in industrialized countries and in developing countries. One consequence of pathological obesity is cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. Chemerin is an adipocyne that plays a role in the regulation of the adipocyte function and the metabolism of glucose in the liver and musculoskeletal system. Most likely, chemerin is involved in obesity-related disorders such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Aerobic exercises reduce the level of chemerin and cause macrophage penetration into fat cells and inflammatory factors. Several efforts have been made to clarify the cellular and molecular mechanisms of hypertrophy and muscular atrophy. Myostatin, a new member of the TGF-β family, is a transforming growth factor β that its expression negatively regulates the growth of the skeletal muscle; and the increase of this hormone has been observed in conditions of muscular atrophy. While in response to muscle overload, its levels decrease after the atrophy period, TGF-β is the most important cytokine in the development of skeletal muscle. Myostatin plays an important role in muscle control, and animal and human studies show a negative role of myostatin in the growth of skeletal muscle. Separation of myostatin from Golgi begins on the ninth day of the onset period and continues until birth at all times of muscle growth. Higher levels of myostatin are found in obese people. Resistance training for 10 weeks could reduce levels of plasma myostatin.
Abstract: Globular clusters (GC) are important objects for tracing
the early evolution of a galaxy. We study the correlation between the
cluster population and the global properties of the host galaxy. We
found that the correlation between cluster population (NGC) and
the baryonic mass (Mb) of the host galaxy are best described as
10
−5.6038Mb. In order to understand the origin of the U -shape
relation between the GC specific frequency (SN) and Mb (caused
by the high value of SN for dwarfs galaxies and giant ellipticals
and a minimum SN for intermediate mass galaxies≈ 1010M), we
derive a theoretical model for the specific frequency (SNth). The
theoretical model for SNth is based on the slope of the power-law
embedded cluster mass function (β) and different time scale (Δt) of
the forming galaxy. Our results show a good agreement between the
observation and the model at a certain β and Δt. The model seems
able to reproduce higher value of SNth of β = 1.5 at the midst
formation time scale.
Abstract: While struggling to succeed in today’s complex market environment and provide better customer experience and services, enterprises encompass digital transformation as a means for reaching competitiveness and foster value creation. A digital transformation process consists of information technology implementation projects, as well as organizational factors such as top management support, digital transformation strategy, and organizational changes. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is little evidence about digital transformation endeavors in organizations and how they perceive it – is it only about digital technologies adoption or a true organizational shift is needed? In order to address this issue and as the first step in our research project, a literature review is conducted. The analysis included case study papers from Scopus and Web of Science databases. The following attributes are considered for classification and analysis of papers: time component; country of case origin; case industry and; digital transformation concept comprehension, i.e. focus. Research showed that organizations – public, as well as private ones, are aware of change necessity and employ digital transformation projects. Also, the changes concerning digital transformation affect both manufacturing and service-based industries. Furthermore, we discovered that organizations understand that besides technologies implementation, organizational changes must also be adopted. However, with only 29 relevant papers identified, research positioned digital transformation as an unexplored and emerging phenomenon in information systems research. The scarcity of evidence-based papers calls for further examination of this topic on cases from practice.
Abstract: Digital transformation is one of the latest trends on the global market. In order to maintain the competitive advantage and sustainability, increasing number of organizations are conducting digital transformation processes. Those organizations are changing their business processes and creating new business models with the help of digital technologies. In that sense, one should also observe the role of business process management (BPM) and its maturity in driving digital transformation. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to investigate the role of BPM in digital transformation process within one organization. Since experiences from practice show that organizations from financial sector could be observed as leaders in digital transformation, an insurance company has been selected to participate in the study. That company has been selected due to the high level of its BPM maturity and the fact that it has previously been through a digital transformation process. In order to fulfill the goals of the paper, several interviews, as well as questionnaires, have been conducted within the selected company. The results are presented in a form of a case study. Results indicate that digital transformation process within the observed company has been successful, with special focus on the development of digital strategy, BPM and change management. The role of BPM in the digital transformation of the observed company is further discussed in the paper.
Abstract: Focus on reducing energy consumption in existing
buildings at large scale, e.g. in cities or countries, has been
increasing in recent years. In order to reduce energy consumption
in existing buildings, political incentive schemes are put in place and
large scale investments are made by utility companies. Prioritising
these investments requires a comprehensive overview of the energy
consumption in the existing building stock, as well as potential
energy-savings. However, a building stock comprises thousands
of buildings with different characteristics making it difficult to
model energy consumption accurately. Moreover, the complexity of
the building stock makes it difficult to convey model results to
policymakers and other stakeholders. In order to manage the complexity of the building stock, building
archetypes are often employed in building stock energy models
(BSEMs). Building archetypes are formed by segmenting the building
stock according to specific characteristics. Segmenting the building
stock according to building type and building age is common, among
other things because this information is often easily available. This
segmentation makes it easy to convey results to non-experts. However, using a single archetypical building to represent all
buildings in a segment of the building stock is associated with
loss of detail. Thermal characteristics are aggregated while other
characteristics, which could affect the energy efficiency of a building,
are disregarded. Thus, using a simplified representation of the
building stock could come at the expense of the accuracy of the
model. The present study evaluates the accuracy of a conventional
archetype-based BSEM that segments the building stock according
to building type- and age. The accuracy is evaluated in terms of the
archetypes’ ability to accurately emulate the average energy demands
of the corresponding buildings they were meant to represent. This is
done for the buildings’ energy demands as a whole as well as for
relevant sub-demands. Both are evaluated in relation to the type- and
the age of the building. This should provide researchers, who use
archetypes in BSEMs, with an indication of the expected accuracy
of the conventional archetype model, as well as the accuracy lost in
specific parts of the calculation, due to use of the archetype method.
Abstract: One of the major shortcomings of widely used
scientometric indicators is that different disciplines cannot be
compared with each other. The issue of cross-disciplinary
normalization has been long discussed, but even the classification
of publications into scientific domains poses problems. Structural
properties of citation networks offer new possibilities, however, the
large size and constant growth of these networks asks for precaution.
Here we present a new tool that in order to perform cross-field
normalization of scientometric indicators of individual publications
relays on the structural properties of citation networks. Due to the
large size of the networks, a systematic procedure for identifying
scientific domains based on a local community detection algorithm
is proposed. The algorithm is tested with different benchmark
and real-world networks. Then, by the use of this algorithm, the
mechanism of the scientometric indicator normalization process is
shown for a few indicators like the citation number, P-index and
a local version of the PageRank indicator. The fat-tail trend of the
article indicator distribution enables us to successfully perform the
indicator normalization process.
Abstract: This paper deals with measuring and modelling of the quality of the machined surface of the metal machining process. The average surface roughness (Ra) which represents the quality of the machined part was measured during the dry turning of the AISI 4140 steel. A large number of factors with the unknown relations among them influences this parameter, and that is why mathematical modelling is extremely complicated. Different values of cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut (cutting regime) and workpiece hardness causes different surface roughness values. Modelling with soft computing techniques may be very useful in such cases. This paper presents the usage of the fuzzy logic-based system for determining metal machining process parameter in order to find the proper values of cutting regimes.
Abstract: What people say on social media has turned into a
rich source of information to understand social behavior. Specifically,
the growing use of Twitter social media for political communication
has arisen high opportunities to know the opinion of large numbers
of politically active individuals in real time and predict the global
political tendencies of a specific country. It has led to an increasing
body of research on this topic. The majority of these studies have
been focused on polarized political contexts characterized by only
two alternatives. Unlike them, this paper tackles the challenge
of forecasting Spanish political trends, characterized by multiple
political parties, by means of analyzing the Twitters Users political
tendency. According to this, a new strategy, named Tweets Analysis
Strategy (TAS), is proposed. This is based on analyzing the users
tweets by means of discovering its sentiment (positive, negative or
neutral) and classifying them according to the political party they
support. From this individual political tendency, the global political
prediction for each political party is calculated. In order to do this,
two different strategies for analyzing the sentiment analysis are
proposed: one is based on Positive and Negative words Matching
(PNM) and the second one is based on a Neural Networks Strategy
(NNS). The complete TAS strategy has been performed in a Big-Data
environment. The experimental results presented in this paper reveal
that NNS strategy performs much better than PNM strategy to analyze
the tweet sentiment. In addition, this research analyzes the viability
of the TAS strategy to obtain the global trend in a political context
make up by multiple parties with an error lower than 23%.
Abstract: In order to study the topic of cities crossing rivers, a Four-Dimensional Analysis Method consisting of timeline, X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis is proposed. Policies, plans, and their implications are summarized and researched along with the timeline. The X-axis is the direction which is parallel to the river. The research area was chosen because of its important connection function. It is proposed that more surface water network should be built because of the ecological orientation of the research area. And the analysis of groundwater makes it for sure that the proposal is feasible. After the blue water network is settled, the green landscape network which is surrounded by it could be planned. The direction which is transversal to the river (Y-axis) should run through the transportation axis so that the urban texture could stretch in an ecological way. Therefore, it is suggested that the work of the planning bureau and river bureau should be coordinated. The Z-axis research is on the section view of the river, especially on the Yellow River’s special feature of being a perched river. Based on water control safety demands, river parks could be constructed on the embankment buffer zone, whereas many kinds of ornamental trees could be used to build the buffer zone. City Crossing River is a typical case where we make use of landscaping to build a symbiotic relationship between the urban landscape architecture and the environment. The local environment should be respected in the process of city expansion. The planning order of "Benefit- Flood Control Safety" should be replaced by "Flood Control Safety - Landscape Architecture- People - Benefit".
Abstract: In this paper we present a contribution for the modeling and control of wind energy conversion system based on a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Since the wind speed is random the system has to produce an optimal electrical power to the Network and ensures important strength and stability. In this work, the Backstepping controller is used to control the generator via two converter witch placed a DC bus capacitor and connected to the grid by a Filter R-L, in order to optimize capture wind energy. All is simulated and presented under MATLAB/Simulink Software to show performance and robustness of the proposed controller.
