Abstract: The arm length, hand length, hand breadth and middle
finger length of 1540 right-handed industrial workers of Haryana
state was used to assess the relationship between the upper limb
dimensions and stature. Initially, the data were analyzed using basic
univariate analysis and independent t-tests; then simple and multiple
linear regression models were used to estimate stature using SPSS
(version 17). There was a positive correlation between upper limb
measurements (hand length, hand breadth, arm length and middle
finger length) and stature (p < 0.01), which was highest for hand
length. The accuracy of stature prediction ranged from ± 54.897 mm
to ± 58.307 mm. The use of multiple regression equations gave better
results than simple regression equations. This study provides new
forensic standards for stature estimation from the upper limb
measurements of male industrial workers of Haryana (India). The
results of this research indicate that stature can be determined using
hand dimensions with accuracy, when only upper limb is available
due to any reasons likewise explosions, train/plane crashes, mutilated
bodies, etc. The regression formula derived in this study will be
useful for anatomists, archaeologists, anthropologists, design
engineers and forensic scientists for fairly prediction of stature using
regression equations.
Abstract: A three-dimensional numerical model of
thermoelectric generator (TEG) modules attached to a large chimney
plate is proposed and solved numerically using a control volume based
finite difference formulation. The TEG module consists of a
thermoelectric generator, an elliptical pin-fin heat sink, and a cold
plate for water cooling. In the chimney, the temperature of flue gases is
450-650K. Although the TEG hot-side temperature and thus the
electric power output can be increased by inserting an elliptical pin-fin
heat sink into the chimney tunnel to increase the heat transfer area, the
pin fin heat sink would cause extra pumping power at the same time.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of geometrical
parameters on the electric power output and chimney pressure drop
characteristics. The effects of different operating conditions, including
various inlet velocities (Vin= 1, 3, 5 m/s), inlet temperatures (Tgas = 450,
550, 650K) and different fin height (0 to 150 mm) are discussed in
detail. The predicted numerical data for the power vs. current (P-I)
curve are in good agreement (within 11%) with the experimental data.
Abstract: R.C.C. buildings with dual structural system
consisting of shear walls (or braces) and moment resisting frames
have been widely used to resist lateral forces during earthquakes. The
dual systems are designed to resist the total design lateral force in
proportion to their lateral stiffness. The response of combination of
braces and shear walls has not yet been studied. The combination
may prove to be more effective to resist lateral forces during
earthquakes. This concept has been applied to regular R.C.C.
buildings provided with shear walls, braces and their combinations.
Abstract: Dengue outbreaks are affected by biological,
ecological, socio-economic and demographic factors that vary over
time and space. These factors have been examined separately and still
require systematic clarification. The present study aimed to investigate
the spatial-temporal clustering relationships between these factors and
dengue outbreaks in the northern region of Sri Lanka. Remote sensing
(RS) data gathered from a plurality of satellites were used to develop
an index comprising rainfall, humidity and temperature data. RS data
gathered by ALOS/AVNIR-2 were used to detect urbanization, and a
digital land cover map was used to extract land cover information.
Other data on relevant factors and dengue outbreaks were collected
through institutions and extant databases. The analyzed RS data and
databases were integrated into geographic information systems,
enabling temporal analysis, spatial statistical analysis and space-time
clustering analysis. Our present results showed that increases in the
number of the combination of ecological factor and socio-economic
and demographic factors with above the average or the presence
contribute to significantly high rates of space-time dengue clusters.
Abstract: In this paper, the exergy analysis of vapor absorption
refrigeration system using LiBr-H2O as working fluid is carried out
with the modified Gouy-Stodola approach rather than the classical
Gouy-Stodola equation and effect of varying input parameters is also
studied on the performance of the system. As the modified approach
uses the concept of effective temperature, the mathematical
expressions for effective temperature have been formulated and
calculated for each component of the system. Various constraints and
equations are used to develop program in EES to solve these
equations. The main aim of this analysis is to determine the
performance of the system and the components having major
irreversible loss. Results show that exergy destruction rate is
considerable in absorber and generator followed by evaporator and
condenser. There is an increase in exergy destruction in generator,
absorber and condenser and decrease in the evaporator by the
modified approach as compared to the conventional approach. The
value of exergy determined by the modified Gouy-Stodola equation
deviates maximum i.e. 26% in the generator as compared to the
exergy calculated by the classical Gouy-Stodola method.
Abstract: Improved resource efficiency of production is a key
requirement for sustainable growth, worldwide. In this regards, by
considering the energy and tourism as the extra inputs to the classical
Coub-Douglas production function, this study aims at investigating
the efficiency changes in the North African countries. To this end, the
study uses panel data for the period 1995-2010 and adopts the
Malmquist index based on the data envelopment analysis. Results
show that tourism increases technical and scale efficiencies, while it
decreases technological and total factor productivity changes. On the
other hand, when the production function is augmented by the energy
input; technical efficiency change decreases, while the technological
change, scale efficiency change and total factor productivity change
increase. Thus, in order to satisfy the needs for sustainable growth,
North African governments should take some measures for increasing
the contribution that the tourism makes to economic growth and some
others for efficient use of resources in the energy sector.
Abstract: Essential oils have a significant antimicrobial activity.
These oils can successfully replace the antibiotics. So, the
microorganisms show their inefficiencies resistant for the antibiotics.
For this reason, we study the physicochemical analysis and
antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Daucus carota. The
extraction is done by steam distillation of water which brought us a
very significant return of 4.65%. The analysis of the essential oil is
performed by GC / MS and has allowed us to identify 32 compounds
in the oil of D. carota flowering tops of Bouira. Three of which are in
the majority are the α-Pinene (22.3%), the carotol (21.7%) and the
limonene (15.8%).
Abstract: Today’s VLSI networks demands for high speed. And
in this work the compact form mathematical model for current mode
signalling in VLSI interconnects is presented.RLC interconnect line
is modelled using characteristic impedance of transmission line and
inductive effect. The on-chip inductance effect is dominant at lower
technology node is emulated into an equivalent resistance. First order
transfer function is designed using finite difference equation, Laplace
transform and by applying the boundary conditions at the source and
load termination. It has been observed that the dominant pole
determines system response and delay in the proposed model. The
novel proposed current mode model shows superior performance as
compared to voltage mode signalling. Analysis shows that current
mode signalling in VLSI interconnects provides 2.8 times better
delay performance than voltage mode. Secondly the damping factor
of a lumped RLC circuit is shown to be a useful figure of merit.
Abstract: Nanofibers are effective materials which have
frequently been investigated to produce high quality air filters. As an
environmental approach our aim is to achieve nanofibers by melting.
In spun-bond systems extruder, spin-pump, nozzle package and
attenuator are used. Molten polymer which flows from extruder is
made steady by spin-pump. Regular melt passes through nozzle holes
and forms fibers under high pressure. The fibers pulled from nozzle
are shrunk to micron size by an attenuator; after solidification, they
are collected on a conveyor. In this research different designs of
attenuator system have been studied; and also CFD analysis has been
done on these different designs. Afterwards, one of these designs
tested and finally some optimizations have been done to reduce
pressure loss and increase air velocity.
Abstract: Using the first-principles full-potential linearized
augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW+lo) method
based on density functional theory (DFT), we have investigated the
electronic structure and magnetism of full Heusler alloys Co2ZrGe
and Co2NbB. These compounds are predicted to be half-metallic
ferromagnets (HMFs) with a total magnetic moment of 2.000 B per
formula unit, well consistent with the Slater-Pauling rule.
Calculations show that both the alloys have an indirect band gaps, in
the minority-spin channel of density of states (DOS), with values of
0.58 eV and 0.47 eV for Co2ZrGe and Co2NbB, respectively.
Analysis of the DOS and magnetic moments indicates that their
magnetism is mainly related to the d-d hybridization between the Co
and Zr (or Nb) atoms. The half-metallicity is found to be relatively
robust against volume changes. In addition, an atom inside molecule
AIM formalism and an electron localization function ELF were also
adopted to study the bonding properties of these compounds, building
a bridge between their electronic and bonding behavior.
As they have a good crystallographic compatibility with the lattice of
semiconductors used industrially and negative calculated cohesive
energies with considerable absolute values these two alloys could be
promising magnetic materials in the spintronic field.
Abstract: Real bronchial tree is very complicated piping system.
Analysis of flow and pressure losses in this system is very difficult.
Due to the complex geometry and the very small size in the lower
generations is examination by CFD possible only in the central part
of bronchial tree. For specify the pressure losses of lower generations
is necessary to provide a mathematical equation. Determination of
mathematical formulas for calculation of pressure losses in the real
lungs is time consuming and inefficient process due to its complexity
and diversity. For these calculations is necessary to slightly simplify
the geometry of lungs (same cross-section over the length of
individual generation) or use one of the idealized models of lungs
(Horsfield, Weibel). The article compares the values of pressure
losses obtained from CFD simulation of air flow in the central part of
the real bronchial tree with the values calculated in a slightly
simplified real lungs by using a mathematical relationship derived
from the Bernoulli and continuity equations. The aim of the article is
to analyse the accuracy of the analytical method and its possibility of
use for the calculation of pressure losses in lower generations, which
is difficult to solve by numerical method due to the small geometry.
Abstract: In urban context, urban nodes such as amenity or
hazard will certainly affect house price, while classic hedonic analysis
will employ distance variables measured from each urban nodes.
However, effects from distances to facilities on house prices generally
do not represent the true price of the property. Distance variables
measured on the same surface are suffering a problem called
multicollinearity, which is usually presented as magnitude variance
and mean value in regression, errors caused by instability. In this paper,
we provided a theoretical framework to identify and gather the data
with less bias, and also provided specific sampling method on locating
the sample region to avoid the spatial multicollinerity problem in three
distance variable’s case.
Abstract: Generating random numbers are mainly used to create
secret keys or random sequences. It can be carried out by various
techniques. In this paper we present a very simple and efficient
pseudo random number generator (PRNG) based on chaotic maps
and S-Box tables. This technique adopted two main operations one to
generate chaotic values using two logistic maps and the second to
transform them into binary words using random S-Box tables.
The simulation analysis indicates that our PRNG possessing
excellent statistical and cryptographic properties.

human dynamics (e.g. primary component analysis, Ward system
based cluster analysis, and mapping). What is more, we have been
considering worker daily health and safety issues. Targeted fields are
mainly common farms, meadows, and gardens. After then, we
observed and discussed time-line style, changing data. And, we made
some suggestions. The entire plan makes it possible to improve both
the aforementioned applied systems and farms.
Abstract: In a multi-cultural learning context, where ties are
weak and dynamic, combining qualitative with quantitative research
methods may be more effective. Such a combination may also allow
us to answer different types of question, such as about people’s
perception of the network. In this study the use of observation,
interviews and photos were explored as ways of enhancing data from
social network questionnaires. Integrating all of these methods was
found to enhance the quality of data collected and its accuracy, also
providing a richer story of the network dynamics and the factors that
shaped these changes over time.
Abstract: Machining of hard materials is a recent technology for
direct production of work-pieces. The primary challenge in
machining these materials is selection of cutting tool inserts which
facilitates an extended tool life and high-precision machining of the
component. These materials are widely for making precision parts for
the aerospace industry. Nickel-based alloys are typically used in
extreme environment applications where a combination of strength,
corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance material characteristics
are required. The present paper reports the theoretical and
experimental investigations carried out to understand the influence of
machining parameters on the response parameters. Considering the
basic machining parameters (speed, feed and depth of cut) a study has
been conducted to observe their influence on material removal rate,
surface roughness, cutting forces and corresponding tool wear.
Experiments are designed and conducted with the help of Central
Composite Rotatable Design technique. The results reveals that for a
given range of process parameters, material removal rate is favorable
for higher depths of cut and low feed rate for cutting forces. Low feed
rates and high values of rotational speeds are suitable for better finish
and higher tool life.
Abstract: Beta-glucosidase, chitinase, leucine-aminopeptidase, acid phosphomonoesterase and acetate-esterase enzyme activities in
the soils under the impact of metallurgical industrial activity in Lori
marz (district) were investigated. The results of the study showed that
the activities of the investigated enzymes in the soils decreased with increasing distance from the Shamlugh copper mine, the Chochkan
tailings storage facility and the ore transportation road. Statistical
analysis revealed that the activities of the enzymes were positively
correlated (significant) to each other according to the observation
sites which indicated that enzyme activities were affected by the
same anthropogenic factor. The investigations showed that the soils
were polluted with heavy metals (Cu, Pb, As, Co, Ni, Zn) due to
copper mining activity in this territory. The results of Pearson
correlation analysis revealed a significant negative correlation
between heavy metal pollution degree (Nemerow integrated pollution
index) and soil enzyme activity. All of this indicated that copper
mining activity in this territory causing the heavy metal pollution of
the soils resulted in the inhabitation of the activities of the enzymes
which are considered as biological catalysts to decompose organic
materials and facilitate the cycling of nutrients.
Abstract: Robotics brings together several very different
engineering areas and skills. There are various types of robot such as
humanoid robot, mobile robots, remotely operated vehicles, modern
autonomous robots etc. This survey paper advocates the operation of a
robotic car (remotely operated vehicle) that is controlled by a mobile
phone (communicate on a large scale over a large distance even from
different cities). The person makes a call to the mobile phone placed
in the car. In the case of a call, if any one of the button is pressed, a
tone equivalent to the button pressed is heard at the other end of the
call. This tone is known as DTMF (Dual Tone Multiple Frequency).
The car recognizes this DTMF tone with the help of the phone stacked
in the car. The received tone is processed by the Arduino
microcontroller. The microcontroller is programmed to acquire a
decision for any given input and outputs its decision to motor drivers
in order to drive the motors in the forward direction or backward
direction or left or right direction. The mobile phone that makes a call
to cell phone stacked in the car act as a remote.
Abstract: This technical contribution treats of a novel approach
to condition-oriented maintenance as elaborated by Collaborative
Research Centre 653 at the Leibniz University in Hanover. The
objective resides in the targeted analysis of information about a
component's lifecycle for maintenance purposes. The information in
question is collected by means of the Collaborative Research Centre's
innovative technologies. This enables preventive maintenance of
components on the basis of their condition. This contribution initially
explains condition-oriented maintenance, before introducing the
Collaborative Research Centre and finally presenting the
methodology for analyzing the information. The current state of
development is described and an outlook provided for expanding the
methodology.
Abstract: Recently, the green architecture becomes a
significant way to a sustainable future. Green building designs
involve finding the balance between comfortable homebuilding and
sustainable environment. Moreover, the utilization of the new
technologies such as artificial intelligence techniques are used to
complement current practices in creating greener structures to keep
the built environment more sustainable. The most common objectives
in green buildings should be designed to minimize the overall impact
of the built environment that effect on ecosystems in general and in
particularly human health and natural environment. This will lead to
protecting occupant health, improving employee productivity,
reducing pollution and sustaining the environmental. In green
building design, multiple parameters which may be interrelated,
contradicting, vague and of qualitative/quantitative nature are
broaden to use. This paper presents a comprehensive critical state- ofart-
review of current practices based on fuzzy and its combination
techniques. Also, presented how green architecture/building can be
improved using the technologies that been used for analysis to seek
optimal green solutions strategies and models to assist in making the
best possible decision out of different alternatives.
