Abstract: We integrate TiN/Ni/HfO2/Si RRAM cell with a
vertical gate-all-around (GAA) nanowire transistor to achieve
compact 4F2 footprint in a 1T1R configuration. The tip of the Si
nanowire (source of the transistor) serves as bottom electrode of the
memory cell. Fabricated devices with nanowire diameter ~ 50nm
demonstrate ultra-low current/power switching; unipolar switching
with 10μA/30μW SET and 20μA/30μW RESET and bipolar switching
with 20nA/85nW SET and 0.2nA/0.7nW RESET. Further, the
switching current is found to scale with nanowire diameter making the
architecture promising for future scaling.
Abstract: The main criteria of designing in the most hydraulic
constructions essentially are based on runoff or discharge of water. Two of those important criteria are runoff and return period. Mostly,
these measures are calculated or estimated by stochastic data.
Another feature in hydrological data is their impreciseness.
Therefore, in order to deal with uncertainty and impreciseness, based
on Buckley-s estimation method, a new fuzzy method of evaluating hydrological measures are developed. The method introduces
triangular shape fuzzy numbers for different measures in which both
of the uncertainty and impreciseness concepts are considered. Besides, since another important consideration in most of the
hydrological studies is comparison of a measure during different
months or years, a new fuzzy method which is consistent with special form of proposed fuzzy numbers, is also developed. Finally, to
illustrate the methods more explicitly, the two algorithms are tested on one simple example and a real case study.
Abstract: Today, people are more interested in the foods
beneficial on their health. However, there are still lacks of accurate
knowledge in the field of biological properties, functional properties,
including the application of legume in foods. This study focused on
antioxidant activity of soybean (SB) and fermented soybean (FSB)
crude extracts evaluating to have more information in fortification SB
and FSB crude extracts in food products and/or dietary supplement.
SB and FSB crude extracts were prepared by infusion with water and
ethanol. The antioxidant activity of crude extracts was studied with
DPPH and ABTS assay including commercial standard. From both
DPPH and ABTS assay, the antioxidant activity of SB and FSB water
crude extract showed higher antioxidant activity than ethanol crude
extract, and FSB crude extract showed higher antioxidant activity
than SB crude extract. In DPPH assay, BHT and vitamin C showed
IC50 values at 0.241, 0.039 mg/ml, in ABTS assay. In addition,
Trolox showed IC50 at 0.058 mg/ml respectively. FSB water crude
extract showed high antioxidant activity. Finally, the functional
properties study of both water and ethanol crude extracts should be
done for beneficial in application of these extracts in food products
and dietary supplement in the near future.
Abstract: This paper discusses the implementation of the Kalman
Filter along with the Global Positioning System (GPS) for indoor
robot navigation. Two dimensional coordinates is used for the map
building, and refers to the global coordinate which is attached to the
reference landmark for position and direction information the robot
gets. The Discrete Kalman Filter is used to estimate the robot position,
project the estimated current state ahead in time through time update
and adjust the projected estimated state by an actual measurement at
that time via the measurement update. The navigation test has been
performed and has been found to be robust.
Abstract: It is believed that major account on language diversity must be taken in learning, and especially in learning using ICT. This paper-s objective is to exhibit language and communication barriers in learning, to approach the topic from socioculture and cognitivist perspectives, and to give exploratory solutions of handling such barriers. The review is mainly conducted by approaching the journal Computers & Education, but also an initially broad search was conducted. The results show that not much attention is paid on language and communication barriers in an immediate relation to learning using ICT. The results shows, inter alia, that language and communication barriers are caused because of not enough account is taken on both the individual-s background and the technology.
Abstract: An electrical apparatus for measuring moisture
content was developed by our laboratory and uses dependence of
electrical properties on water content in studied material. Error
analysis of the apparatus was run by measuring different volumes of
water in a simplified specimen, i.e. hollow plexiglass block, in order
to avoid as many side-effects as possible. Obtained data were
processed using both basic and advanced statistics and results were
compared with each other. The influence of water content on
accuracy of measured data was studied as well as the influence of
variation of apparatus' proper arrangement or factual methodics of its
usage. The overall coefficient of variation was 4%. There was no
trend found in results of error dependence on water content.
Comparison with current surveys led to a conclusion, that the studied
apparatus can be used for indirect measurement of water content in
porous materials, with expectable error and under known conditions.
Factual experiments with porous materials are not involved, but are
currently under investigation.
Abstract: Phase transformation temperature is one of the most important parameters for the shape memory alloys (SMAs). The most popular method to determine these phase transformation temperatures is the Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), but due to the limitation of the DSC testing itself, it made it difficult for the finished product which is not in the powder form. A novel method which uses the Universal Testing Machine has been conducted to determine the phase transformation temperatures. The Flexinol wire was applied with force and maintained throughout the experiment and at the same time it was heated up slowly until a temperature of approximately 1000C with direct current. The direct current was then slowly decreased to cool down the temperature of the Flexinol wire. All the phase transformation temperatures for Flexinol wire were obtained. The austenite start at 52.540C and austenite finish at 60.900C, while martensite start at 44.780C and martensite finish at 32.840C.
Abstract: When the crisscross baffles and logarithmic spiral
baffles are placed on the bottom of the stirred tank with elliptic
bottom, using CFD software FLUENT simulates the velocity field of
the stirred tank with elliptic bottom and bottom baffles. Compare the
velocity field of stirred tank with bottom crisscross baffle to the
velocity field of stirred tank without bottom baffle and analysis the
flow pattern on the same axis-section and different cross-sections. The
sizes of the axial and radial velocity are compared respectively when
the stirred tank with bottom crisscross baffles, bottom logarithmic
spiral baffles and without bottom baffle. At the same time, the
numerical calculations of mixing power are compared when the stirred
tank with bottom crisscross baffles and bottom logarithmic spiral
baffles. Research shows that bottom crisscross baffles and logarithmic
spiral baffles have a great impact on flow pattern within the reactor
and improve the mixing effect better than without baffle. It also has
shown that bottom logarithmic spiral baffles has lower power
consumption than bottom crisscross baffles.
Abstract: In this paper, the dam-reservoir interaction is
analyzed using a finite element approach. The fluid is assumed to be
incompressible, irrotational and inviscid. The assumed boundary
conditions are that the interface of the dam and reservoir is vertical
and the bottom of reservoir is rigid and horizontal. The governing
equation for these boundary conditions is implemented in the
developed finite element code considering the horizontal and vertical
earthquake components. The weighted residual standard Galerkin
finite element technique with 8-node elements is used to discretize
the equation that produces a symmetric matrix equation for the damreservoir
system. A new boundary condition is proposed for
truncating surface of unbounded fluid domain to show the energy
dissipation in the reservoir, through radiation in the infinite upstream
direction. The Sommerfeld-s and perfect damping boundary
conditions are also implemented for a truncated boundary to compare
with the proposed far end boundary. The results are compared with
an analytical solution to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed
formulation and other truncated boundary conditions in modeling the
hydrodynamic response of an infinite reservoir.
Abstract: Outlier detection in streaming data is very challenging because streaming data cannot be scanned multiple times and also new concepts may keep evolving. Irrelevant attributes can be termed as noisy attributes and such attributes further magnify the challenge of working with data streams. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised outlier detection scheme for streaming data. This scheme is based on clustering as clustering is an unsupervised data mining task and it does not require labeled data, both density based and partitioning clustering are combined for outlier detection. In this scheme partitioning clustering is also used to assign weights to attributes depending upon their respective relevance and weights are adaptive. Weighted attributes are helpful to reduce or remove the effect of noisy attributes. Keeping in view the challenges of streaming data, the proposed scheme is incremental and adaptive to concept evolution. Experimental results on synthetic and real world data sets show that our proposed approach outperforms other existing approach (CORM) in terms of outlier detection rate, false alarm rate, and increasing percentages of outliers.
Abstract: In this paper a new Joint Adaptive Block Matching
Search (JABMS) algorithm is proposed to generate motion vector
and search a best match macro block by classifying the motion vector
movement based on prediction error. Diamond Search (DS)
algorithm generates high estimation accuracy when motion vector is
small and Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (ARPS) algorithm can
handle large motion vector but is not very accurate. The proposed
JABMS algorithm which is capable of considering both small and
large motions gives improved estimation accuracy and the
computational cost is reduced by 15.2 times compared with
Exhaustive Search (ES) algorithm and is 1.3 times less compared
with Diamond search algorithm.
Abstract: This study attempts to clarify major perspectives of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Greek market related to companies that have sufficient CSR. An empirical analysis was undertaken, based on literature review and previous observations and surveys, in order to provide a general analysis of the CSR concept in Greece. The results of Accountability Rating institution were used in order to identify companies that adopt an integrated social responsibility approach. Companies that responded to the survey are both regional and international and belong to different industrial fields. Some of the main survey results reveal: multiple aspects for the CSR concept, weak consensus as regards the importance of stakeholders and benefits from the CSR implementation, the important role of CSR in the decision procedure and CSR practices concerning social issues that affect mostly company-s competitiveness. Sharing companies- experience could address common social issues through CSR best practices and develop new knowledge.
Abstract: Oil debris signal generated from the inductive oil
debris monitor (ODM) is useful information for machine condition
monitoring but is often spoiled by background noise. To improve the
reliability in machine condition monitoring, the high-fidelity signal
has to be recovered from the noisy raw data. Considering that the noise
components with large amplitude often have higher frequency than
that of the oil debris signal, the integral transform is proposed to
enhance the detectability of the oil debris signal. To cancel out the
baseline wander resulting from the integral transform, the empirical
mode decomposition (EMD) method is employed to identify the trend
components. An optimal reconstruction strategy including both
de-trending and de-noising is presented to detect the oil debris signal
with less distortion. The proposed approach is applied to detect the oil
debris signal in the raw data collected from an experimental setup. The
result demonstrates that this approach is able to detect the weak oil
debris signal with acceptable distortion from noisy raw data.
Abstract: This paper examines the factors, which determine
R&D outsourcing behaviour at Japanese firms, from the viewpoints of
transaction cost and strategic management, since the latter half of the
1990s. This study uses empirical analysis, which involves the
application of large-sample data. The principal findings of this paper
are listed below. Firms that belong to a wider corporate group are more
active in executing R&D outsourcing activities. Diversification
strategies such as the expansion of product and sales markets have a
positive effect on the R&D outsourcing behaviour of firms. Moreover,
while quantitative R&D resources have positive influences on R&D
outsourcing, qualitative indices have no effect. These facts suggest
that R&D outsourcing behaviour of Japanese firms are consistent with
the two perspectives of transaction cost and strategic management.
Specifically, a conventional corporate group network plays an
important role in R&D outsourcing behaviour. Firms that execute
R&D outsourcing leverage 'old' networks to construct 'new' networks
and use both networks properly.
Abstract: Over the course of the past century, the global
automotive industry-s stance towards safety has evolved from one of
contempt to one nearing reverence. A suspension system that
provides safe handling and cornering capabilities can, with the help
of an efficient braking system, improve safety to a large extent. The
aim of this research is to propose a new automotive brake rotor
design and to compare it with automotive vented disk rotor. Static
structural and transient thermal analysis have been carried out on the
vented disk rotor and proposed rotor designs to evaluate and compare
their performance. Finite element analysis was employed for both
static structural and transient thermal analysis. Structural analysis
was carried out to study the stress and deformation pattern of the
rotors under extreme loads. Time varying temperature load was
applied on the rotors and the temperature distribution was analysed
considering cooling parameters (convection and radiation). This
dissertation illustrates the use of Finite Element Methods to examine
models, concluding with a comparative study of the proposed rotor
design and the conventional vented disk rotor for structural stability
and thermal efficiency.
Abstract: IPsec protocol[1] is a set of security extensions

Abstract: Research in e-Business has been growing
tremendously covering all related aspects such as adoption issues, e-
Business models, strategies, etc. This research aims to explore the
potential of adopting e-Business for a micro size business operating
from home called home-based businesses (HBBs). In Malaysia, the
HBB industry started many years ago and were mostly monopolized
by women or housewives managed as a part-time job to support their
family economy. Today, things have changed. The availability of the
Internet technology and the emergence of e-Business concept
promote the evolution of HBBs, which have been adopted as another
alternative as a professional career for women without neglecting
their family needs especially the children. Although this study is
confined to a limited sample size and within geographical biasness,
the findings show that it concurs with previous large scale studies. In
this study, both qualitative and quantitative methods were used and
data were gathered using triangulation methods via interview, direct
observation, document analysis and survey questionnaires. This paper
discusses the literature review, research methods and findings
pertaining to e-Business adoption factors that influence the HBBs in
Malaysia.
Abstract: This paper presents the development of an active
vibration control using direct adaptive controller to suppress the
vibration of a flexible beam system. The controller is realized based
on linear parametric form. Differential evolution optimisation
algorithm is used to optimize the controller using single objective
function by minimizing the mean square error of the observed
vibration signal. Furthermore, an alternative approach is developed to
systematically search for the best controller model structure together
with it parameter values. The performance of the control scheme is
presented and analysed in both time and frequency domain.
Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is able to
suppress the unwanted vibration effectively.
Abstract: In this paper we introduce a new unit test technique
called déjà-vu object. Déjà-vu objects replace real objects used by
classes under test, allowing the execution of isolated unit tests. A
déjà-vu object is able to observe and record the behaviour of a real
object during real sessions, and to replace it during unit tests,
returning previously recorded results. Consequently déjà-vu object
technique can be useful when a bottom-up development and testing
strategy is adopted. In this case déjà-vu objects can increase test
portability and test source code readability. At the same time they
can reduce the time spent by programmers to develop test code and
the risk of incompatibility during the switching between déjà-vu and
production code.
Abstract: Ceramics comprise the largest proportion of Korea-s cultural heritage currently preserved (Cited from “The Beauty of Old Ceramics of Korea" written by Yoon Yong-iee). Thus, this researcher conducted this investigation in an attempt to gain insight into Korea-s past culture and the lost period of the colonial period and the Korean War by looking into the ceramics. Korea, China and Japan are part of the similar cultural bloc within the East Asian region. Their porcelains manifest distinctive characteristics by each nation along with similarities. Thus, this research seeks to find the distinctive characteristics of the Korean porcelain by conducting comparative analysis of the similarities and distinctive characteristics. These distinctive characteristics are manifested effectively in the colors of the porcelains following the materials that can be obtained in Korea, China and Japan and production method. Likewise, this research seeks to identify the characteristics of the Korean porcelains- colors based on the comparative analysis of the porcelain colors. The reasons that porcelains were selected were because they are the most well preserved cultural remains in Korea and since they have both similarities and distinctive characteristics due to the cultural interchanges among Korea, China and Japan, which facilitates comparative study. The research targets include Korea, China and Japan-s porcelains. By comparing the colors of the porcelains from Korea, China and Japan that have their distinctive characteristics, this research seeks to identify Korea-specific porcelain colors. These colors derive from the materials that can be obtained only in Korea, and they are affected by the ideologies that governed at the time. This research is meaningful in the sense that this identifies the colors that embraces the Korean culture and provides important data by leveraging the study of the characteristics of the Korea-specific porcelains.
