Abstract: In this paper, fully developed flow and heat transfer of
viscoelastic materials in curved ducts with square cross section under
constant heat flux have been investigated. Here, staggered mesh is
used as computational grids and flow and heat transfer parameters
have been allocated in this mesh with marker and cell method.
Numerical solution of governing equations has being performed with
FTCS finite difference method. Furthermore, Criminale-Eriksen-
Filbey (CEF) constitutive equation has being used as viscoelastic
model. CEF constitutive equation is a suitable model for studying
steady shear flow of viscoelastic materials which is able to model
both effects of the first and second normal stress differences. Here, it
is shown that the first and second normal stresses differences have
noticeable and inverse effect on secondary flows intensity and mean
Nusselt number which is the main novelty of current research.
Abstract: Flow through micro and mini channels requires relatively
high driving pressure due to the large fluid pressure drop
through these channels. Consequently the forces acting on the walls of
the channel due to the fluid pressure are also large. Due to these forces
there are displacement fields set up in the solid substrate containing
the channels. If the movement of the substrate is constrained at some
points, then stress fields are established in the substrate. On the other
hand, if the deformation of the channel shape is sufficiently large
then its effect on the fluid flow is important to be calculated. Such
coupled fluid-solid systems form a class of problems known as fluidstructure
interactions. In the present work a co-located finite volume
discretization procedure on unstructured meshes is described for
solving fluid-structure interaction type of problems. A linear elastic
solid is assumed for which the effect of the channel deformation
on the flow is neglected. Thus the governing equations for the
fluid and the solid are decoupled and are solved separately. The
procedure is validated by solving two benchmark problems, one from
fluid mechanics and another from solid mechanics. A fluid-structure
interaction problem of flow through a U-shaped channel embedded
in a plate is solved.
Abstract: Ground-source heat pumps achieve higher efficiencies
than conventional air-source heat pumps because they exchange heat
with the ground that is cooler in summer and hotter in winter than the
air environment. Earth heat exchangers are essential parts of the
ground-source heat pumps and the accurate prediction of their
performance is of fundamental importance. This paper presents the
development and validation of a numerical model through an
incompressible fluid flow, for the simulation of energy and
temperature changes in and around a U-tube borehole heat
exchanger. The FlexPDE software is used to solve the resulting
simultaneous equations that model the heat exchanger. The validated
model (through a comparison with experimental data) is then used to
extract conclusions on how various parameters like the U-tube
diameter, the variation of the ground thermal conductivity and
specific heat and the borehole filling material affect the temperature
of the fluid.
Abstract: Phytases are acid phosphatase enzymes, which
efficiently cleave phosphate moieties from phytic acid, thereby
generating myo-inositol and inorganic phosphate. Thirty four
isolates of endophytic fungi to produce of phytases were isolated
from leaf, stem and root fragments of soybean. Screening of 34
isolates of endophytic fungi identified the phytases produced by
Rhizoctonia sp. and Fusarium verticillioides . The phytase
production were the best induced by phytic acid and rice bran
compared the others inducer in submerged fermentation medium
used. The phytase produced by both Rhizoctonia sp. and F.
verticillioides have pH optimum at 4.0 and 5.0 respectively. The
characterization of phytase from Fusarium verticillioides showed that
temperature optimum was 500C and stability until 600C, the pH
optimum 5.0 and pH stability was 2.5 – 6.0, and substrate specificity
were rice bran>soybean meal>corn> coconut cake, respectively.
Abstract: Currently, there are many local area industrial networks
that can give guaranteed bandwidth to synchronous traffic, particularly
providing CBR channels (Constant Bit Rate), which allow
improved bandwidth management. Some of such networks operate
over Ethernet, delivering channels with enough capacity, specially
with compressors, to integrate multimedia traffic in industrial monitoring
and image processing applications with many sources. In
these industrial environments where a low latency is an essential
requirement, JPEG is an adequate compressing technique but it
generates VBR traffic (Variable Bit Rate). Transmitting VBR traffic
in CBR channels is inefficient and current solutions to this problem
significantly increase the latency or further degrade the quality. In
this paper an R(q) model is used which allows on-line calculation of
the JPEG quantification factor. We obtained increased quality, a lower
requirement for the CBR channel with reduced number of discarded
frames along with better use of the channel bandwidth.
Abstract: In an era of knowledge explosion, the growth of data
increases rapidly day by day. Since data storage is a limited resource,
how to reduce the data space in the process becomes a challenge issue.
Data compression provides a good solution which can lower the
required space. Data mining has many useful applications in recent
years because it can help users discover interesting knowledge in large
databases. However, existing compression algorithms are not
appropriate for data mining. In [1, 2], two different approaches were
proposed to compress databases and then perform the data mining
process. However, they all lack the ability to decompress the data to
their original state and improve the data mining performance. In this
research a new approach called Mining Merged Transactions with the
Quantification Table (M2TQT) was proposed to solve these problems.
M2TQT uses the relationship of transactions to merge related
transactions and builds a quantification table to prune the candidate
itemsets which are impossible to become frequent in order to improve
the performance of mining association rules. The experiments show
that M2TQT performs better than existing approaches.
Abstract: This paper presents a remote on-line diagnostic system
for vehicles via the use of On-Board Diagnostic (OBD), GPS, and 3G
techniques. The main parts of the proposed system are on-board
computer, vehicle monitor server, and vehicle status browser. First,
the on-board computer can obtain the location of deriver and vehicle
status from GPS receiver and OBD interface, respectively. Then
on-board computer will connect with the vehicle monitor server
through 3G network to transmit the real time vehicle system status.
Finally, vehicle status browser could show the remote vehicle status
including vehicle speed, engine rpm, battery voltage, engine coolant
temperature, and diagnostic trouble codes. According to the
experimental results, the proposed system can help fleet managers and
car knockers to understand the remote vehicle status. Therefore this
system can decrease the time of fleet management and vehicle repair
due to the fleet managers and car knockers who find the diagnostic
trouble messages in time.
Abstract: This paper analyzed the perception of e-commerce
application services by construction material traders in Malaysia.
Five attributes were tested: usability, reputation, trust, privacy and
familiarity. Study methodology consists of survey questionnaire and
statistical analysis that includes reliability analysis, factor analysis,
ANOVA and regression analysis. The respondents were construction
material traders, including hardware stores in Klang Valley, Kuala
Lumpur.
Findings support that usability and familiarity with e-commerce
services in Malaysia have insignificant influence on the acceptance of
e-commerce application. However, reputation, trust and privacy
attributes have significant influence on the choice of e-commerce
acceptance by construction material traders. E-commerce
applications studied included customer database, e-selling, emarketing,
e-payment, e-buying and online advertising. Assumptions
are made that traders have basic knowledge and exposure to ICT
services. i.e. internet service and computers. Study concludes that
reputation, privacy and trust are the three website attributes that
influence the acceptance of e-commerce by construction material
traders.

zero-IF receiver for CDMA2000 diversity, monitoring and
simultaneous-GPS. The secondary path is a SAW-less diversity
CDMA receiver which can be also used for advanced features like
monitoring when supported with an additional external VCO. A GPS
receiver is integrated with its dedicated VCO allowing simultaneous
positioning during a cellular call. The circuit is implemented in a
0.25μm 40GHz-fT BiCMOS process and uses a HVQFN 56-pin
package. It consumes a maximum 300mW from a 2.8V supply in
dual-modes. The chip area is 12.8mm2.
Abstract: In recent years, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
is followed with interest by many researches, especially for the
purpose of indoor positioning as the innate properties of RFID are
profitable for achieving it. A lot of algorithms or schemes are proposed
to be used in the RFID-based positioning system, but most of them are
lack of environmental consideration and it induces inaccuracy of
application. In this research, a lot of algorithms and schemes of RFID
indoor positioning are discussed to see whether effective or not on
application, and some rules are summarized for achieving accurate
positioning. On the other hand, a new term “Noise Factor" is involved
to describe the signal loss between the target and the obstacle. As a
result, experimental data can be obtained but not only simulation; and
the performance of the positioning system can be expressed
substantially.
Abstract: An adaptive Fuzzy Inference Perceptual model has
been proposed for watermarking of digital images. The model
depends on the human visual characteristics of image sub-regions in
the frequency multi-resolution wavelet domain. In the proposed
model, a multi-variable fuzzy based architecture has been designed to
produce a perceptual membership degree for both candidate
embedding sub-regions and strength watermark embedding factor.
Different sizes of benchmark images with different sizes of
watermarks have been applied on the model. Several experimental
attacks have been applied such as JPEG compression, noises and
rotation, to ensure the robustness of the scheme. In addition, the
model has been compared with different watermarking schemes. The
proposed model showed its robustness to attacks and at the same time
achieved a high level of imperceptibility.
Abstract: In Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems, the peak to average power ratio (PAR) is much high. The clipping signal scheme is a useful method to reduce PAR. Clipping the OFDM signal, however, increases the overall noise level by introducing clipping noise. It is necessary to recover the figure of the original signal at receiver in order to reduce the clipping noise. Considering the continuity of the signal and the figure of the peak, we obtain a certain conic function curve to replace the clipped signal module within the clipping time. The results of simulation show that the proposed scheme can reduce the systems? BER (bit-error rate) 10 times when signal-to-interference-and noise-ratio (SINR) equals to 12dB. And the BER performance of the proposed scheme is superior to that of kim's scheme, too.
Abstract: The applications on numbers are across-the-board that there is much scope for study. The chic of writing numbers is diverse and comes in a variety of form, size and fonts. Identification of Indian languages scripts is challenging problems. In Optical Character Recognition [OCR], machine printed or handwritten characters/numerals are recognized. There are plentiful approaches that deal with problem of detection of numerals/character depending on the sort of feature extracted and different way of extracting them. This paper proposes a recognition scheme for handwritten Hindi (devnagiri) numerals; most admired one in Indian subcontinent our work focused on a technique in feature extraction i.e. Local-based approach, a method using 16-segment display concept, which is extracted from halftoned images & Binary images of isolated numerals. These feature vectors are fed to neural classifier model that has been trained to recognize a Hindi numeral. The archetype of system has been tested on varieties of image of numerals. Experimentation result shows that recognition rate of halftoned images is 98 % compared to binary images (95%).
Abstract: terrorism and extremism are among the most
dangerous and difficult to forecast the phenomena of our time, which
are becoming more diverse forms and rampant. Terrorist attacks often
produce mass casualties, involve the destruction of material and
spiritual values, beyond the recovery times, sow hatred among
nations, provoke war, mistrust and hatred between the social and
national groups, which sometimes can not be overcome within a
generation. Currently, the countries of Central Asia are a topical issue
– the threat of terrorism and religious extremism, which grow not
only in our area, but throughout the world. Of course, in each of the
terrorist threat is assessed differently. In our country the problem of
terrorism should not be acutely. Thus, after independence and
sovereignty of Kazakhstan has chosen the path of democracy,
progress and free economy. With the policy of the President of
Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and well-organized political and
economic reforms, there has been economic growth and rising living
standards, socio-political stability, ensured civil peace and accord in
society [1].

Abstract: Ultra-wide band (UWB) communication is one of
the most promising technologies for high data rate wireless networks
for short range applications. This paper proposes a blind channel
estimation method namely IMM (Interactive Multiple Model) Based
Kalman algorithm for UWB OFDM systems. IMM based Kalman
filter is proposed to estimate frequency selective time varying
channel. In the proposed method, two Kalman filters are concurrently
estimate the channel parameters. The first Kalman filter namely
Static Model Filter (SMF) gives accurate result when the user is static
while the second Kalman filter namely the Dynamic Model Filter
(DMF) gives accurate result when the receiver is in moving state. The
static transition matrix in SMF is assumed as an Identity matrix
where as in DMF, it is computed using Yule-Walker equations. The
resultant filter estimate is computed as a weighted sum of individual
filter estimates. The proposed method is compared with other existing
channel estimation methods.
Abstract: The present project was conducted with the
circumferential-fuel-jets inverse diffusion flame (CIDF) burner
burning liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) enriched with 50% of
hydrogen fuel (H2). The range of stable operation of the CIDF burner
in terms of Reynolds number (from laminar to turbulent flow regions),
equivalence ratio and fuel jet velocity of LPG of the 50% H2-LPG
mixed fuel was identified. Experiments were also carried out to
investigate the flame structures of the LPG flame and LPG enriched H2
flame. Experimental results obtained from these two flames were
compared to fully explore the influence of hydrogen addition on flame
stability. Flame heights obtained by burning these two kinds of fuels at
various equivalence ratios were compared and correlated with the
Global Momentum Ratio (GMR).
Abstract: The evaluation of the question answering system is a major research area that needs much attention. Before the rise of domain-oriented question answering systems based on natural language understanding and reasoning, evaluation is never a problem as information retrieval-based metrics are readily available for use. However, when question answering systems began to be more domains specific, evaluation becomes a real issue. This is especially true when understanding and reasoning is required to cater for a wider variety of questions and at the same time achieve higher quality responses The research in this paper discusses the inappropriateness of the existing measure for response quality evaluation and in a later part, the call for new standard measures and the related considerations are brought forward. As a short-term solution for evaluating response quality of heterogeneous systems, and to demonstrate the challenges in evaluating systems of different nature, this research presents a black-box approach using observation, classification scheme and a scoring mechanism to assess and rank three example systems (i.e. AnswerBus, START and NaLURI).
Abstract: This paper presents a robust vehicle detection approach using Haar-like feature. It is possible to get a strong edge feature from this Haar-like feature. Therefore it is very effective to remove the shadow of a vehicle on the road. And we can detect the boundary of vehicles accurately. In the paper, the vehicle detection algorithm can be divided into two main steps. One is hypothesis generation, and the other is hypothesis verification. In the first step, it determines vehicle candidates using features such as a shadow, intensity, and vertical edge. And in the second step, it determines whether the candidate is a vehicle or not by using the symmetry of vehicle edge features. In this research, we can get the detection rate over 15 frames per second on our embedded system.
Abstract: The storage of thermal energy as a latent heat of phase
change material (PCM) has created considerable interest among
researchers in recent times. Here, an attempt is made to carry out
numerical investigations to analyze the performance of latent heat
storage units (LHSU) employing phase change material. The
mathematical model developed is based on an enthalpy formulation.
Freezing time of PCM packed in three different shaped containers
viz. rectangular, cylindrical and cylindrical shell is compared. The
model is validated with the results available in the literature. Results
show that for the same mass of PCM and surface area of heat
transfer, cylindrical shell container takes the least time for freezing
the PCM and this geometric effect is more pronounced with an
increase in the thickness of the shell than that of length of the shell.
