Abstract: Image restoration involves elimination of noise. Filtering techniques were adopted so far to restore images since last five decades. In this paper, we consider the problem of image restoration degraded by a blur function and corrupted by random noise. A method for reducing additive noise in images by explicit analysis of local image statistics is introduced and compared to other noise reduction methods. The proposed method, which makes use of an a priori noise model, has been evaluated on various types of images. Bayesian based algorithms and technique of image processing have been described and substantiated with experimentation using MATLAB.
Abstract: Physiological activity of the pineal gland with specific
responses in the reproductive territory may be interpreted by
monitoring the process parameters used in poultry practice in
different age batches of laying hens. As biological material were
used 105 laying hens, clinically healthy, belonging to ALBO SL-
2000 hybrid, raised on ground, from which blood samples were taken
at the age of 12 and 28 weeks. The haematological examinations
were concerned to obtain the total number of erythrocytes and
leukocytes and the main erythrocyte constant (RBC, PCV, MCV,
MCH, MCHC and WBC). The results allow the interpretation of the
reproductive status through the dynamics of the presented values.
Abstract: Recently research on human wayfinding has focused
mainly on mental representations rather than processes of
wayfinding. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the
rationality behind applying multi-agent simulation paradigm to the
modeling of rescuer team wayfinding in order to develop
computational theory of perceptual wayfinding in crisis situations
using image schemata and affordances, which explains how people
find a specific destination in an unfamiliar building such as a
hospital. The hypothesis of this paper is that successful navigation is
possible if the agents are able to make the correct decision through
well-defined cues in critical cases, so the design of the building
signage is evaluated through the multi-agent-based simulation. In
addition, a special case of wayfinding in a building, finding one-s
way through three hospitals, is used to demonstrate the model.
Thereby, total rescue time for rescue operation during building fire is
computed. This paper discuses the computed rescue time for various
signage localization and provides experimental result for
optimization of building signage design. Therefore the most
appropriate signage design resulted in the shortest total rescue time in
various situations.
Abstract: Protein structure determination and prediction has
been a focal research subject in the field of bioinformatics due to the
importance of protein structure in understanding the biological and
chemical activities of organisms. The experimental methods used by
biotechnologists to determine the structures of proteins demand
sophisticated equipment and time. A host of computational methods
are developed to predict the location of secondary structure elements
in proteins for complementing or creating insights into experimental
results. However, prediction accuracies of these methods rarely
exceed 70%.
Abstract: Aldehydes as secondary lipid oxidation products are highly specific to the oxidative degradation of particular polyunsaturated fatty acids present in foods. Gas chromatographic analysis of those volatile compounds has been widely used for monitoring of the deterioration of food products. Developed static headspace gas chromatography method using flame ionization detector (SHS GC FID) was applied to monitor the aldehydes present in processed foods such as bakery, meat and confectionary products.
Five selected aldehydes were determined in samples without any sample preparation, except grinding for bakery and meat products. SHS–GC analysis allows the separation of propanal, pentanal, hexanal, heptanal and octanal, within 15min. Aldehydes were quantified in fresh and stored samples, and the obtained range of aldehydes in crackers was 1.62±0.05 – 9.95±0.05mg/kg, in sausages 6.62±0.46 – 39.16±0.39mg/kg; and in cocoa spread cream 0.48±0.01 – 1.13±0.02mg/kg. Referring to the obtained results, the following can be concluded, proposed method is suitable for different types of samples, content of aldehydes varies depending on the type of a sample, and differs in fresh and stored samples of the same type.
Abstract: In Algeria, now, the oil pumping plants are fed with electric power by independent local sources. This type of feeding has many advantages (little climatic influence, independent operation). However it requires a qualified maintenance staff, a rather high frequency of maintenance and repair and additional fuel costs. Taking into account the increasing development of the national electric supply network (Sonelgaz), a real possibility of transfer of the local sources towards centralized sources appears. These latter cannot only be more economic but more reliable than the independent local sources as well. In order to carry out this transfer, it is necessary to work out an optimal strategy to rebuilding these networks taking in account the economic parameters and the indices of reliability.
Abstract: The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) with double populations is applied to solve the steady-state laminar natural convective heat transfer in a triangular cavity filled with water. The bottom wall is heated, the vertical wall is cooled, and the inclined wall is kept adiabatic. The buoyancy effect was modeled by applying the Boussinesq approximation to the momentum equation. The fluid velocity is determined by D2Q9 LBM and the energy equation is discritized by D2Q4 LBM to compute the temperature field. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and found to be in excellent agreement. Numerical results are obtained for a wide range of parameters: the Rayleigh number from to and the inclination angle from 0° to 360°. Flow and thermal fields were exhibited by means of streamlines and isotherms. It is observed that inclination angle can be used as a relevant parameter to control heat transfer in right-angled triangular enclosures.
Abstract: The values of managers and employees in organizations are phenomena that have captured the interest of researchers at large. Despite this attention, there continues to be a lack of agreement on what values are and how they influence individuals, or how they are constituted in individuals- mind. In this article content-based approach is presented as alternative reference frame for exploring values. In content-based approach human thinking in different contexts is set at the focal point. Differences in valuations can be explained through the information contents of mental representations. In addition to the information contents, attention is devoted to those cognitive processes through which mental representations of values are constructed. Such informational contents are in decisive role for understanding human behavior. By applying content-based analysis to an examination of values as mental representations, it is possible to reach a deeper to the motivational foundation of behaviors, such as decision making in organizational procedures, through understanding the structure and meanings of specific values at play.
Abstract: Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) combined
with the Confocal Microscopy, as a noninvasive method, permits the
determinations of materials defects in the ceramic layers depth. For
this study 256 anterior and posterior metal and integral ceramic fixed
partial dentures were used, made with Empress (Ivoclar), Wollceram
and CAD/CAM (Wieland) technology. For each investigate area 350
slices were obtain and a 3D reconstruction was perform from each
stuck. The Optical Coherent Tomography, as a noninvasive method,
can be used as a control technique in integral ceramic technology,
before placing those fixed partial dentures in the oral cavity. The
purpose of this study is to evaluate the capability of En face Optical
Coherence Tomography (OCT) combined with a fluorescent method
in detection and analysis of possible material defects in metalceramic
and integral ceramic fixed partial dentures. As a conclusion,
it is important to have a non invasive method to investigate fixed
partial prostheses before their insertion in the oral cavity in order to
satisfy the high stress requirements and the esthetic function.
Abstract: This work describes refrigeration effects during storage on total protein and amino acids composition of raw and processed flour of two pearl millet cultivars (Ashana and Dembi). The protein content of the whole raw flour was found to be 14.46 and 13.38% for Ashana and Dembi cultivars, respectively. Dehulling of the grains reduced the protein content to 13.38 and 12.67% for the cultivars, respectively. For both cultivars, the protein content of the whole and dehulled raw flour before and after cooking was slightly decreased when the flour was stored for 60 days even after refrigeration. The effect of refrigeration process in combination with the storage period, cooking or dehulling was found to be vary between amino acids and even between cultivars. Regardless of the storage period and processing method, the amino acids content was remained unchanged after refrigeration for both cultivars.
Abstract: Need for an appropriate system of evaluating students-
educational developments is a key problem to achieve the predefined
educational goals. Intensity of the related papers in the last years; that
tries to proof or disproof the necessity and adequacy of the students
assessment; is the corroborator of this matter. Some of these studies
tried to increase the precision of determining question weights in
scientific examinations. But in all of them there has been an attempt
to adjust the initial question weights while the accuracy and precision
of those initial question weights are still under question. Thus In
order to increase the precision of the assessment process of students-
educational development, the present study tries to propose a new
method for determining the initial question weights by considering
the factors of questions like: difficulty, importance and complexity;
and implementing a combined method of PROMETHEE and fuzzy
analytic network process using a data mining approach to improve
the model-s inputs. The result of the implemented case study proves
the development of performance and precision of the proposed
model.
Abstract: A fully implicit finite-difference method has been proposed for the numerical solutions of one dimensional coupled nonlinear Burgers’ equations on the uniform mesh points. The method forms a system of nonlinear difference equations which is to be solved at each iteration. Newton’s iterative method has been implemented to solve this nonlinear assembled system of equations. The linear system has been solved by Gauss elimination method with partial pivoting algorithm at each iteration of Newton’s method. Three test examples have been carried out to illustrate the accuracy of the method. Computed solutions obtained by proposed scheme have been compared with analytical solutions and those already available in the literature by finding L2 and L∞ errors.
Abstract: Building life cycle will never be excused from the existence of defects and deterioration. They are common problems in building, existed in newly build or in aged building. Buildings constructed from wood are indeed affected by its agent and serious defects and damages can reduce values to a building. In repair works, it is important to identify the causes and repair techniques that best suites with the condition. This paper reviews the conservation of traditional timber mosque in Malaysia comprises the concept, principles and approaches of mosque conservation in general. As in conservation practice, wood in historic building can be conserved by using various restoration and conservation techniques which this can be grouped as Fully and Partial Replacement, Mechanical Reinforcement, Consolidation by Impregnation and Reinforcement, Removing Paint and also Preservation of Wood and Control Insect Invasion, as to prolong and extended the function of a timber in a building. It resulted that the common techniques adopted in timber mosque conservation are from the conventional ways and the understanding of the repair technique requires the use of only preserve wood to prevent the future immature defects.
Abstract: Proteins or genes that have similar sequences are likely to perform the same function. One of the most widely used techniques for sequence comparison is sequence alignment. Sequence alignment allows mismatches and insertion/deletion, which represents biological mutations. Sequence alignment is usually performed only on two sequences. Multiple sequence alignment, is a natural extension of two-sequence alignment. In multiple sequence alignment, the emphasis is to find optimal alignment for a group of sequences. Several applicable techniques were observed in this research, from traditional method such as dynamic programming to the extend of widely used stochastic optimization method such as Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and Simulated Annealing. A framework with combination of Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing is presented to solve Multiple Sequence Alignment problem. The Genetic Algorithm phase will try to find new region of solution while Simulated Annealing can be considered as an alignment improver for any near optimal solution produced by GAs.
Abstract: In this paper we have suggested a new system for egovernment.
In this method a government can design a precise and
perfect system to control people and organizations by using five
major documents. These documents contain the important
information of each member of a society and help all organizations to
do their informatics tasks through them. This information would be
available by only a national code and a secure program would
support it. The suggested system can give a good awareness to the
society and help it be managed correctly.
Abstract: This paper focuses on operational risk measurement
techniques and on economic capital estimation methods. A data
sample of operational losses provided by an anonymous Central
European bank is analyzed using several approaches. Loss
Distribution Approach and scenario analysis method are considered.
Custom plausible loss events defined in a particular scenario are
merged with the original data sample and their impact on capital
estimates and on the financial institution is evaluated. Two main
questions are assessed – What is the most appropriate statistical
method to measure and model operational loss data distribution? and
What is the impact of hypothetical plausible events on the financial
institution? The g&h distribution was evaluated to be the most
suitable one for operational risk modeling. The method based on the
combination of historical loss events modeling and scenario analysis
provides reasonable capital estimates and allows for the measurement
of the impact of extreme events on banking operations.
Abstract: The aim of the present study was to develop and
validate an inexpensive and simple high performance liquid
chromatographic (HPLC) method for the determination of colistin
sulfate. Separation of colistin sulfate was achieved on a ZORBAX
Eclipse XDB-C18 column using UV detection at λ=215 nm. The
mobile phase was 30 mM sulfate buffer (pH 2.5):acetonitrile(76:24).
An excellent linearity (r2=0.998) was found in the concentration
range of 25 - 400 μg/mL. Intra- day and inter-day precisions of
method (%RSD, n=3) were less than 7.9%.The developed and
validated method was applied to determination of the content of
colistin sulfate in medicated premix and animal feed sample. The
recovery of colistin from animal feed was satisfactorily ranged from
90.92 to 93.77%. The results demonstrated that the HPLC method
developed in this work is appropriate for direct determination of
colistin sulfate in commercial medicated premixes and animal feed.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to guide the effort in
improving the economic added value of Indonesian fisheries product
through post fishing program, which is cold storage program.
Indonesia's fisheries potential has been acknowledged by the world.
FAO (2009) stated that Indonesia is one of the tenth highest
producers of fishery products in the world. Based on BPS (Statistics
Indonesia data), the national fisheries production in 2011 reached
5.714 million tons, which 93.55% came from marine fisheries and
6.45% from open waters. Indonesian territory consist of 2/3 of
Indonesian waters, has given enormous benefits for Indonesia,
especially fishermen. To improve the economic level of fishermen
requires efforts to develop fisheries business unit. On of the efforts is
by improving the quality of products which are marketed in the
regional and international levels. It is certainly need the support of
the existence of various fishery facilities (infrastructure to
superstructure), one of which is cold storage. Given the many
benefits of cold storage as a means of processing of fishery resources,
Indonesia Maritime Security Coordinating Board (IMSCB) as one of
the maritime institutions for maritime security and safety, has a
program to empower the coastal community through encourages the
development of cold storage in the middle and lower fishery business
unit. The development of cold storage facilities which able to run its
maximum role requires synergistic efforts of various parties.
Abstract: Mobile adhoc network (MANET) is a collection of
mobile devices which form a communication network with no preexisting
wiring or infrastructure. Multiple routing protocols have
been developed for MANETs. As MANETs gain popularity, their
need to support real time applications is growing as well. Such
applications have stringent quality of service (QoS) requirements
such as throughput, end-to-end delay, and energy. Due to dynamic
topology and bandwidth constraint supporting QoS is a challenging
task. QoS aware routing is an important building block for QoS
support. The primary goal of the QoS aware protocol is to determine
the path from source to destination that satisfies the QoS
requirements. This paper proposes a new energy and delay aware
protocol called energy and delay aware TORA (EDTORA) based on
extension of Temporally Ordered Routing Protocol (TORA).Energy
and delay verifications of query packet have been done in each node.
Simulation results show that the proposed protocol has a higher
performance than TORA in terms of network lifetime, packet
delivery ratio and end-to-end delay.
Abstract: Terrorism represents an unexpected and unwanted change which challenges one-s social identity. We carried out a study to explore the demographic variables- role on the perception of personal and national threat, and to investigate the effects of perceived terrorist threat on people-s ways of life, moods, opinions and hopes. 313 residents of Palermo (Italy) were interviewed. The results pointed out that the fear of terrorism affects three areas: the cognitive, the emotional and the behavioural one.
