Abstract: Biogas, a clean renewable energy, is attracting a growing
concern of researchers and professionals in many fields. Based
on the natural and climatic conditions in semi-arid regions of northwestern
China, the present study introduces a specifically-designed
family-size biogas plant (with a digester of 10m3) with manure
and urine of animals and humanity as raw materials. The biogas
plant is applicable to areas with altitudes of more than 2000 meters
in northwestern China. In addition to the installation cost, a little
operational expenditure, structure, characteristics, benefits of this
small-scale biogas plant, this article introduces a wide range of
specific popularization methods such as training, financial support,
guided tour to the biogas plant, community-based group study and
delivery of operational manuals. The feasibility of the biogas plant is
explored on the basis of the availability of the raw materials. Simple
operations contained in the current work increase the possibility of
the wide use of this small-scale biogas plant in similar regions of the
world.
Abstract: Launch and recovery helicopter wind envelope for a
ship type was determined as the first step to the helicopter
qualification program. Flight deck velocities data were obtained by
means of a two components laser Doppler anemometer testing a
1/50th model in the wind tunnel stream. Full-scale flight deck
measurements were obtained on board the ship using a sonic
anemometer. Wind tunnel and full-scale measurements were
compared, showing good agreement and finally, a preliminary launch
and recovery helicopter wind envelope for this specific ship was
built.
Abstract: Motion control of flexible arms is more difficult than
that of rigid arms, however utilizing its dynamics enables improved
performance such as a fast motion in short operation time. This paper
investigates a ball throwing robot with one rigid link and one flexible
link. This robot throws a ball at a set speed with a proper control torque.
A mathematical model of this ball throwing robot is derived through
Hamilton’s principle. Several patterns of torque input are designed and
tested through the proposed simulation models. The parameters of
each torque input pattern is optimized and determined by chaos
embedded vector evaluated particle swarm optimization (CEVEPSO).
Then, the residual vibration of the manipulator after throwing is
suppressed with input shaping technique. Finally, a real experiment is
set up for the model checking.
Abstract: The study area receives a wide variety of wastes
generated by municipalities and the industries like paints and
pigments, metal processing industries, thermal power plants electroprocessing
industries etc. The Physico-chemical and structural
investigation of water from river Pandu indicated high level of
chlorides and calcium which made the water unsuitable for human
use. Algae like Cyclotella fumida, Asterionella Formosa,
Cladophora glomerata, Pediastrum simplex, Scenedesmus bijuga,
Cladophora glomerata were the dominant pollution tolerant species
recorded under these conditions. The sensitive and less abundant
species of algae included Spirogyra sps., Merismopedia sps. The
predominance colonies of Zygnema sps, Phormidium sps,
Mycrocystis aeruginosa, Merismopedia minima, Pandorina morum,
seems to correlate with high organic contents of Pandu river water.
This study assumes significance as some algae can be used as
bioindicators of water pollution and algal floral of a municipal drain
carrying waste effluents from industrial area Kanpur and discharge
them into the river Pandu flowing onto southern outskirts of Kanpur
city.
Abstract: Nowadays for algae cell ultrasonication the
longitudinal ultrasonic piezosystems are used. In this paper a
possibility of creating unique ultrasonic piezoelectric system, which
would allow reducing energy losses and concentrating this energy to
a small closed volume are proposed. The current vibrating systems
whose ultrasonic energy is concentrated inside of hollow cylinder in
which water-algae mixture is flowing. Two, three or multiply
ultrasonic composite systems to concentrate total energy into a
hollow cylinder to creating strong algae cell ultrasonication are used.
The experiments and numerical FEM analysis results using diskshaped
transducer and the first biological test results on algae cell
disruption by ultrasonication are presented as well.
Abstract: A new blind symbol by symbol equalizer is proposed.
The operation of the proposed equalizer is based on the geometric
properties of the two dimensional data constellation. An unsupervised
clustering technique is used to locate the clusters formed by the
received data. The symmetric properties of the clusters labels are
subsequently utilized in order to label the clusters. Following this
step, the received data are compared to clusters and decisions are
made on a symbol by symbol basis, by assigning to each data
the label of the nearest cluster. The operation of the equalizer is
investigated both in linear and nonlinear channels. The performance
of the proposed equalizer is compared to the performance of a CMAbased
blind equalizer.
Abstract: Due to the fact that in the new century customers tend
to express globally increasing demands, networks of interconnected
businesses have been established in societies and the management of
such networks seems to be a major key through gaining competitive
advantages. Supply chain management encompasses such managerial
activities. Within a supply chain, a critical role is played by quality.
QFD is a widely-utilized tool which serves the purpose of not only
bringing quality to the ultimate provision of products or service
packages required by the end customer or the retailer, but it can also
initiate us into a satisfactory relationship with our initial customer;
that is the wholesaler. However, the wholesalers- cooperation is
considerably based on the capabilities that are heavily dependent on
their locations and existing circumstances. Therefore, it is undeniable
that for all companies each wholesaler possesses a specific
importance ratio which can heavily influence the figures calculated in
the House of Quality in QFD. Moreover, due to the competitiveness
of the marketplace today, it-s been widely recognized that
consumers- expression of demands has been highly volatile in
periods of production. Apparently, such instability and proneness to
change has been very tangibly noticed and taking it into account
during the analysis of HOQ is widely influential and doubtlessly
required. For a more reliable outcome in such matters, this article
demonstrates the application viability of Analytic Network Process
for considering the wholesalers- reputation and simultaneously
introduces a mortality coefficient for the reliability and stability of
the consumers- expressed demands in course of time. Following to
this, the paper provides further elaboration on the relevant
contributory factors and approaches through the calculation of such
coefficients. In the end, the article concludes that an empirical
application is needed to achieve broader validity.

Abstract: As the remedy used music becomes active and
meditation effect through the music is verified, people take a growing
interest about psychological balance or remedy given by music. From
traditional studies, it is verified that the music of which spectral
envelop varies approximately as 1/f (f is frequency) down to a
frequency of low frequency bandwidth gives psychological balance.
In this paper, we researched signal properties of music which gives
psychological balance. In order to find this, we derived the property
from voice. Music composed by voice shows large value in NCSD.
We confirmed the degree of deference between music by curvature of
normalized cumulative spectral distribution. In the music that gives
psychological balance, the curvature shows high value, otherwise, the
curvature shows low value.
Abstract: This paper describes the results of an extensive study
and comparison of popular hash functions SHA-1, SHA-256,
RIPEMD-160 and RIPEMD-320 with JERIM-320, a 320-bit hash
function. The compression functions of hash functions like SHA-1
and SHA-256 are designed using serial successive iteration whereas
those like RIPEMD-160 and RIPEMD-320 are designed using two
parallel lines of message processing. JERIM-320 uses four parallel
lines of message processing resulting in higher level of security than
other hash functions at comparable speed and memory requirement.
The performance evaluation of these methods has been done by using
practical implementation and also by using step computation
methods. JERIM-320 proves to be secure and ensures the integrity of
messages at a higher degree. The focus of this work is to establish
JERIM-320 as an alternative of the present day hash functions for the
fast growing internet applications.
Abstract: The present study focuses on methods allowing a convenient and quick calculation of the SIFs in order to predict the static adhesive strength of bonded joints. A new SIF calculation method is proposed, based on the stresses obtained from a FE model at a reference point located in the adhesive layer at equal distance of the free-edge and of the two interfaces. It is shown that, even limiting ourselves to the two main modes, i.e. the opening and the shearing modes, and using the values of the stresses resulting from a low detailed FE model, an efficient calculation of the peeling stress at adhesive-substrate corners can be obtained by this way. The proposed method is interesting in that it can be the basis of a prediction tool that will allow the designer to quickly evaluate the SIFs characterizing a particular application without developing a detailed analysis.
Abstract: A known iterative computational procedure is used for
internal normal ball loads calculation in statically loaded single-row,
angular-contact ball bearings, subjected to a known thrust load,
which is applied in the inner ring at the geometric bearing center line.
Numerical aspects of the iterative procedure are discussed.
Numerical examples results for a 218 angular-contact ball bearing
have been compared with those from the literature. Twenty figures
are presented showing the geometrical features, the behavior of the
convergence variables and the following parameters as functions of
the thrust load: normal ball loads, contact angle, distance between
curvature centers, and normal ball and axial deflections between the
raceways.
Abstract: Urban water management in Australia faces increasing pressure to deal with the challenges of droughts, growing population and the climate change uncertainty. Addressing these challenges is an opportunity to incorporate the parallel goals of sustainable water management and climate change adaptation through holistic, non-technical means. This paper presents case studies from Perth and Sydney which show how despite robust adaptation plans and experience, recent efforts to 'drought proof' cities have focused on supply-side measures (i.e. desalination), rather than rethinking how water is used and managing demand. The trend towards desalination as a climate adaptation measure raises questions about the sustainability of urban water futures in Australia.
Abstract: In this paper the gradient based iterative algorithms are presented to solve the following four types linear matrix equations: (a) AXB = F; (b) AXB = F, CXD = G; (c) AXB = F s. t. X = XT ; (d) AXB+CYD = F, where X and Y are unknown matrices, A,B,C,D, F,G are the given constant matrices. It is proved that if the equation considered has a solution, then the unique minimum norm solution can be obtained by choosing a special kind of initial matrices. The numerical results show that the proposed method is reliable and attractive.

Abstract: The quantified residence time distribution (RTD)
provides a numerical characterization of mixing in a reactor, thus
allowing the process engineer to better understand mixing
performance of the reactor. This paper discusses computational
studies to investigate flow patterns in a two impinging streams
cyclone reactor(TISCR) . Flow in the reactor was modeled with
computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Utilizing the Eulerian-
Lagrangian approach, implemented in FLUENT (V6.3.22), particle
trajectories were obtained by solving the particle force balance
equations. From simulation results obtained at different Δts, the mean
residence time (tm) and the mean square deviation (σ2) were
calculated. a good agreement can be observed between predicted and
experimental data. Simulation results indicate that the behavior of
complex reactor systems can be predicted using the CFD technique
with minimum data requirement for validation.
Abstract: The aerodynamic performances of vertical axis wind
turbines are highly affected by tip vortexes. In the present
work, different tip devices are considered and simulated against
a baseline rotor configuration, with the aim of identifying the
best tip architecture. Three different configurations are tested:
winglets, an elliptic termination and an aerodynamic bulkhead.
A comparative analysis on the most promising architectures is
conducted, focusing also on blade torque evolution during a full
revolution of the rotor blade. The most promising technology is
concluded to be a well designed winglet.
Abstract: Frequent machine breakdowns, low plant availability and increased overtime are a great threat to a manufacturing plant as they increase operating costs of an industry. The main aim of this study was to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) at a manufacturing company through the implementation of innovative maintenance strategies. A case study approach was used. The paper focuses on improving the maintenance in a manufacturing set up using an innovative maintenance regime mix to improve overall equipment effectiveness. Interviews, reviewing documentation and historical records, direct and participatory observation were used as data collection methods during the research. Usually production is based on the total kilowatt of motors produced per day. The target kilowatt at 91% availability is 75 Kilowatts a day. Reduced demand and lack of raw materials particularly imported items are adversely affecting the manufacturing operations. The company had to reset its targets from the usual figure of 250 Kilowatt per day to mere 75 per day due to lower availability of machines as result of breakdowns as well as lack of raw materials. The price reductions and uncertainties as well as general machine breakdowns further lowered production. Some recommendations were given. For instance, employee empowerment in the company will enhance responsibility and authority to improve and totally eliminate the six big losses. If the maintenance department is to realise its proper function in a progressive, innovative industrial society, then its personnel must be continuously trained to meet current needs as well as future requirements. To make the maintenance planning system effective, it is essential to keep track of all the corrective maintenance jobs and preventive maintenance inspections. For large processing plants these cannot be handled manually. It was therefore recommended that the company implement (Computerised Maintenance Management System) CMMS.
Abstract: In the present study, a numerical analysis is carried
out to investigate unsteady MHD (magneto-hydrodynamic) flow and
heat transfer of a non-Newtonian second grade viscoelastic fluid
over an oscillatory stretching sheet. The flow is induced due to an
infinite elastic sheet which is stretched oscillatory (back and forth) in
its own plane. Effect of viscous dissipation and joule heating are
taken into account. The non-linear differential equations governing
the problem are transformed into system of non-dimensional
differential equations using similarity transformations. A newly
developed meshfree numerical technique Element free Galerkin
method (EFGM) is employed to solve the coupled non linear
differential equations. The results illustrating the effect of various
parameters like viscoelastic parameter, Hartman number, relative
frequency amplitude of the oscillatory sheet to the stretching rate and
Eckert number on velocity and temperature field are reported in
terms of graphs and tables. The present model finds its application in
polymer extrusion, drawing of plastic films and wires, glass, fiber
and paper production etc.
Abstract: Lately there has been a significant boost of interest in
music digital libraries, which constitute an attractive area of research
and development due to their inherent interesting issues and
challenging technical problems, solutions to which will be highly
appreciated by enthusiastic end-users. We present here a DL that we
have developed to support users in their quest for classical music
pieces within a particular collection of 18,000+ audio recordings.
To cope with the early DL model limitations, we have used a refined
socio-semantic and contextual model that allows rich bibliographic
content description, along with semantic annotations, reviewing,
rating, knowledge sharing etc. The multi-layered service model
allows incorporation of local and distributed information,
construction of rich hypermedia documents, expressing the complex
relationships between various objects and multi-dimensional spaces,
agents, actors, services, communities, scenarios etc., and facilitates
collaborative activities to offer to individual users the needed
collections and services.
