Abstract: This paper is focused on the design of an mm-wave phased array. To date, linear polarization is adapted in the reported designs of phased arrays. However, linear polarization faces several well-known challenges. As such, an advanced design for phased array antennas is required that offers circularly polarized (CP) radiation. A feasible solution for achieving CP phased array antennas is proposed using open-circular loop antennas. To this end, a 3-element circular loop phased array antenna is designed to operate at 28 GHz. In addition, the array ability to control the direction of the main lobe is investigated. The results show that the highest achievable field of view (FOV) is 100°, i.e. 50° to the left and 50° to the right-hand side directions. The results are achieved with a CP bandwidth of 15%. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that a high broadside gain of circa 11 dBi can be achieved for the steered beam. Besides, radiation efficiency of 97% can also be achieved based on the proposed design.
Abstract: A graphenated–polyaniline (GR-PANI) nanocomposite sensor was constructed and used for the determination of anthracene. The direct electro-oxidation behavior of anthracene on the GR-PANI modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was used as the sensing principle. The results indicate thatthe response profile of the oxidation of anthracene on GR-PANI-modified GCE provides for the construction of sensor systems based onamperometric and potentiometric signal transductions. A dynamic linear range of 0.12- 100 µM anthracene and a detection limit of 0.044 µM anthracene were established for the sensor system.
Abstract: The linear programming model is sometimes difficult to apply in real business situations due to its assumption of proportionality. This paper shows an example of how to use De Novo programming approach instead of linear programming. In the De Novo programming, resources are not fixed like in linear programming but resource quantities depend only on available budget. Budget is a new, important element of the De Novo approach. Two different production situations are presented: increasing costs and quantity discounts of raw materials. The focus of this paper is on advantages of the De Novo approach in the optimization of production plan for production company which produces souvenirs made from famous stone from the island of Brac, one of the greatest islands from Croatia.
Abstract: The emergence of many environmental issues began with the Industrial Revolution. The depletion of natural resources and emerging environmental challenges over time requires enterprises and managers to take into consideration environmental factors while managing business. If we take notice of these causes; the design and implementation of environmentally friendly green purchasing, production and waste management systems become very important at green logistics systems. Companies can adopt green supply chain with the awareness of these facts. The concept of green supply chain constitutes from green purchasing, green production, green logistics, waste management and reverse logistics. In this study, we wanted to identify the concept of green supply chain and why green supply chain should be applied. In the practice part of the study an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) study is conducted on an aluminum production company to evaluate suppliers.
Abstract: Prior literature in the field of adaptive and
personalized learning sequence in e-learning have proposed and
implemented various mechanisms to improve the learning process
such as individualization and personalization, but complex to
implement due to expensive algorithmic programming and need of
extensive and prior data. The main objective of personalizing
learning sequence is to maximize learning by dynamically selecting
the closest teaching operation in order to achieve the learning
competency of learner. In this paper, a revolutionary technique has
been proposed and tested to perform individualization and
personalization using modified reversed roulette wheel selection
algorithm that runs at O(n). The technique is simpler to implement
and is algorithmically less expensive compared to other revolutionary
algorithms since it collects the dynamic real time performance matrix
such as examinations, reviews, and study to form the RWSA single
numerical fitness value. Results show that the implemented system is
capable of recommending new learning sequences that lessens time
of study based on student's prior knowledge and real performance
matrix.
Abstract: A model to predict the plastic zone size for material
under plane stress condition has been developed and verified
experimentally. The developed model is a function of crack size,
crack angle and material property (dislocation density). Simulation
and validation results show that the model developed show good
agreement with experimental results. Samples of low carbon steel
(0.035%C) with included surface crack angles of 45o, 50o, 60o, 70o
and 90o and crack depths of 2mm and 4mm were subjected to low
strain rate between 0.48 x 10-3 s-1 – 2.38 x 10-3 s-1. The mechanical
properties studied were ductility, tensile strength, modulus of
elasticity, yield strength, yield strain, stress at fracture and fracture
toughness. The experimental study shows that strain rate has no
appreciable effect on the size of plastic zone while crack depth and
crack angle plays an imperative role in determining the size of the
plastic zone of mild steel materials.
Abstract: The hydrodynamic and thermal behaviors of fluid
flow in wavy microchannel are investigated numerically. Effects of
Reynolds number on the hydrodynamics and thermal behaviors are
investigated. Three cases of Reynolds number (580, 1244, and 1910)
are adopted in this study. It is found that the separation zone begin
appears when Reynolds number is greater than 1910 at the endsection
of the wave. Also it is found that dimensionless maximum
velocity at the mid-section of the wave decreases and becomes as a
turbulent behavior as Reynolds numbers increases. The maximum
temperature at the center line at the mid-section of the wave increases
as Reynolds number increases until it reaches the turbulent behavior
when Reynolds number is equal or greater than 1244, while this
behavior will be achieved at very high velocities at the end section of
the wave.
Abstract: Effect of sprue/metal head height on mould filling,
microstructure and mechanical properties of TWDI casting is studied.
Results show that metal/sprue height of 50 mm is not sufficient to
push the melt through the gating channel, but as it is increased from
100-350 mm, proper mould filling is achieved. However at higher
heights between 200 mm and 350 mm, defects associated with
incomplete solidification, carbide precipitation and turbulent flow are
evident. This research shows that superior UTS, hardness, nodularity
and nodule count are obtained at 100 mm sprue height.
Abstract: Among various active filters, shunt active filter is a
viable solution for reactive power and harmonics compensation. In
this paper, the SRF plan is used to generate current reference for
compensation and conventional PI controllers were used as the
controller to compensate the reactive power. The design of the closed
loop controllers is reserved simple by modeling them as first order
systems. Computationally uncomplicated and efficient SVM system
is used in the present work for better utilization of dc bus voltage.
The rating of shunt active filter has been finalized based on the
reactive power demand of the selected reactive load. The proposed
control and SVM technique are validated by simulating in MATLAB
software.
Abstract: Different tools and technologies were implemented
for Crisis Response and Management (CRM) which is generally
using available network infrastructure for information exchange.
Depending on type of disaster or crisis, network infrastructure could
be affected and it could not be able to provide reliable connectivity.
Thus any tool or technology that depends on the connectivity could
not be able to fulfill its functionalities. As a solution, a new message
exchange framework has been developed. Framework provides
offline/online information exchange platform for CRM Information
Systems (CRMIS) and it uses XML compression and packet
prioritization algorithms and is based on open source web
technologies. By introducing offline capabilities to the web
technologies, framework will be able to perform message exchange
on unreliable networks. The experiments done on the simulation
environment provide promising results on low bandwidth networks
(56kbps and 28.8 kbps) with up to 50% packet loss and the solution is
to successfully transfer all the information on these low quality
networks where the traditional 2 and 3 tier applications failed.
Abstract: To avoid battery assisted tags with limited lifetime batteries, it is proposed here to replace them by energy harvesting
systems, able to feed from local environment. This would allow total
independence to RFID systems, very interesting for applications
where tag removal from its location is not possible. Example is here
described for luggage safety in airports, and is easily extendable to similar situation in terms of operation constraints. The idea is to fix
RFID tag with energy harvesting system not only to identify luggage
but also to supply an embedded microcontroller with a sensor
delivering luggage weight making it impossible to add or to remove
anything from the luggage during transit phases. The aim is to
optimize the harvested energy for such RFID applications, and to
study in which limits these applications are theoretically possible.
Proposed energy harvester is based on two energy sources:
piezoelectricity and electromagnetic waves, so that when the luggage
is moving on ground transportation to airline counters, the piezo
module supplies the tag and its microcontroller, while the RF module
operates during luggage transit thanks to readers located along the
way. Tag location on the luggage is analyzed to get best vibrations, as
well as harvester better choice for optimizing the energy supply
depending on applications and the amount of energy harvested during
a period of time. Effects of system parameters (RFID UHF
frequencies, limit distance between the tag and the antenna necessary
to harvest energy, produced voltage and voltage threshold) are
discussed and working conditions for such system are delimited.
Abstract: SiC reinforced Aluminum samples were produced by stir casting of liquid AA1200 aluminum alloy at 600-650ºC casting temperature. 83µm SiC particles were rinsed in 10g/l, 20g/l and 30g/l molar concentration of Sncl2 through cleaning times of 0, 60, 120, and 180 minutes. Some cast samples were tested for mechanical properties and some were subjected to heat treatment before testing. The SnCl2 rinsed SiC reinforced aluminum exhibited higher yield strength, hardness, stiffness and elongation which increases with cleaning concentration and time up to 120 minutes, compared to composite with untreated SiC. However, the impact energy resistance decreases with cleaning concentration and time. The improved properties were attributed to good wettability and mechanical adhesion at the fiber-matrix interface. Quenching and annealing the composite samples further improve the tensile/yield strengths, elongation, stiffness, hardness similar to those of the as-cast samples.
Abstract: Flood wave propagation in river channel flow can be enunciated by nonlinear equations of motion for unsteady flow. It is difficult to find analytical solution of these non-linear equations. Hence, in this paper verification of the finite element model has been carried out against available numerical predictions and field data. The results of the model indicate a good matching with both Preissmann scheme and HEC-RAS model for a river reach of 29km at both sites (15km from upstream and at downstream end) for discharge hydrographs. It also has an agreeable comparison with the Preissemann scheme for the flow depth (stage) hydrographs. The proposed model has also been applying to forecast daily discharges at 400km downstream in the Indus River from Sukkur barrage of Sindh, Pakistan, which demonstrates accurate model predictions with observed the daily discharges. Hence, this model may be utilized for flood warnings in advance.
Abstract: According to the majority and to stereotypes in a simple everyman religious processes in the world in general, and Kazakhstan in particular, have only negative trends. The main reason for the author's opinion is seen in the fact that the media in the pursuit of ratings and sensation, more inclined to highlight the negative aspects of events in the country and the world of processes forgetting or casually mentioning the positive initiatives and achievements. That is why the article is mainly revealed positive trends in mind that the problems of fanaticism, terrorism and the confrontation of society on various issues, a lot has been written and detailed. This article describes the stages in the development of relations between religion and state, as well as institutionalization, networking and assistance in the correct orientation of religious activities in the country.
Abstract: It has been shown that pH 7,3 and 37 0C are the optimal condition for the growth of E. coli “ASAP". The cells grow well on Glucose, Lactose, D-Mannitol, D-Sorbitol, (+)-Xylose, L- (+)-Arabinose and Dulcitol. No growth has been observed on Sucrose, Inositol, Phenylalanine, and Tryptophan. The strain is sensitive to a range of antibiotics. The present study has demonstrated that E. coli “ASAP" inhibit the growth of S. enterica ATCC #700931 in vitro. The studies on conjugating activity has revealed no conjugant of E. coli “ASAP" with plasmid strains E. coli G35#59 and S. enterica ATCC #700931. On the other hand, the conjugants with low frequencies were obtained from E. coli “ASAP" with E. coli G35#61, and E. coli “ASAP" with randomly chosen isolate from healthy human gut microflora: E. coli E6. The results of present study have demonstrated improvements in gut microflora condition of patients with different diseases after the administration of “ASAP"
Abstract: The characterisation of agro-wastes fibres for composite applications from Nigeria using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) has been done. Fibres extracted from groundnut shell, coconut husk, rice husk, palm fruit bunch and palm fruit stalk are processed using two novel cellulose fibre production methods developed by the authors. Cellulose apparent crystallinity calculated using the deconvolution of the diffractometer trace shows that the amorphous portion of cellulose was permeable to hydrolysis yielding high crystallinity after treatment. All diffratograms show typical cellulose structure with well-defined 110, 200 and 040 peaks. Palm fruit fibres had the highest 200 crystalline cellulose peaks compared to others and it is an indication of rich cellulose content. Surface examination of the resulting fibres using SEM indicates the presence of regular cellulose network structure with some agglomerated laminated layer of thin leaves of cellulose microfibrils. The surfaces were relatively smooth indicating the removal of hemicellulose, lignin and pectin.
Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding and
regulatory RNAs about 20 to 24 nucleotides long. Their conserved
nature among the various organisms makes them a good source of
new miRNAs discovery by comparative genomics approach. The
study resulted in 21 miRNAs of 20 pre-miRNAs belonging to 16
families (miR156, 157, 158, 164, 165, 168, 169, 172, 319, 390, 393,
394, 395, 400, 472 and 861) in evergreen spruce tree (Picea). The
miRNA families; miR 157, 158, 164, 165, 168, 169, 319, 390, 393,
394, 400, 472 and 861 are reported for the first time in the Picea. All
20 miRNA precursors form stable minimum free energy stem-loop
structure as their orthologues form in Arabidopsis and the mature
miRNA reside in the stem portion of the stem loop structure. Sixteen
(16) miRNAs are from Picea glauca and five (5) belong to Picea
sitchensis. Their targets consist of transcription factors, growth
related, stressed related and hypothetical proteins.
