Abstract: The operational behavior of a six-phase squirrel cage
induction machine with faulted stator terminals is presented in this
paper. The study is carried out using the derived mathematical model
of the machine in the arbitrary reference frame. Tests are conducted
on a 1 kW experimental machine.
Steady-state and dynamic performance are analyzed for the
machine unloaded and loaded conditions. The results shows that with
one of the stator phases experiencing either an open- circuit or short
circuit fault the machine still produces starting torque, albeit the
running performance is significantly derated.
Abstract: This paper studies a vital issue in wireless
communications, which is the transmission of images over Wireless
Personal Area Networks (WPANs) through the Bluetooth network. It
presents a simple method to improve the efficiency of error control
code of old Bluetooth versions over mobile WPANs through
Interleaved Error Control Code (IECC) technique. The encoded
packets are interleaved by simple block interleaver. Also, the paper
presents a chaotic interleaving scheme as a tool against bursts of
errors which depends on the chaotic Baker map. Also, the paper
proposes using the chaotic interleaver instead of traditional block
interleaver with Forward Error Control (FEC) scheme. A comparison
study between the proposed and standard techniques for image
transmission over a correlated fading channel is presented.
Simulation results reveal the superiority of the proposed chaotic
interleaving scheme to other schemes. Also, the superiority of FEC
with proposed chaotic interleaver to the conventional interleavers
with enhancing the security level with chaotic interleaving packetby-
packet basis.
Abstract: An on-line condition monitoring method for transmission line is proposed using electrical circuit theory and IT technology in this paper. It is reasonable that the circuit parameters such as resistance (R), inductance (L), conductance (g) and capacitance (C) of a transmission line expose the electrical conditions and physical state of the line. Those parameters can be calculated from the linear equation composed of voltages and currents measured by synchro-phasor measurement technique at both end of the line. A set of linear voltage drop equations containing four terminal constants (A, B ,C ,D ) are mathematical models of the transmission line circuits. At least two sets of those linear equations are established from different operation condition of the line, they may mathematically yield those circuit parameters of the line. The conditions of line connectivity including state of connecting parts or contacting parts of the switching device may be monitored by resistance variations during operation. The insulation conditions of the line can be monitored by conductance (g) and capacitance(C) measurements. Together with other condition monitoring devices such as partial discharge, sensors and visual sensing device etc.,they may give useful information to monitor out any incipient symptoms of faults. The prototype of hardware system has been developed and tested through laboratory level simulated transmission lines. The test has shown enough evident to put the proposed method to practical uses.
Abstract: This paper presents the optimal controller design of
the generator control unit in the aircraft power system. The adaptive
tabu search technique is applied to tune the controller parameters
until the best terminal output voltage of generator is achieved. The
output response from the system with the controllers designed by the
proposed technique is compared with those from the conventional
method. The transient simulations using the commercial software
package show that the controllers designed from the adaptive tabu
search algorithm can provide the better output performance compared
with the result from the classical method. The proposed design
technique is very flexible and useful for electrical aircraft engineers.
Abstract: Terminal localization for indoor Wireless Local Area
Networks (WLANs) is critical for the deployment of location-aware
computing inside of buildings. A major challenge is obtaining high
localization accuracy in presence of fluctuations of the received signal
strength (RSS) measurements caused by multipath fading. This paper
focuses on reducing the effect of the distance-varying noise by spatial
filtering of the measured RSS. Two different survey point geometries
are tested with the noise reduction technique: survey points arranged
in sets of clusters and survey points uniformly distributed over the
network area. The results show that the location accuracy improves
by 16% when the filter is used and by 18% when the filter is applied
to a clustered survey set as opposed to a straight-line survey set.
The estimated locations are within 2 m of the true location, which
indicates that clustering the survey points provides better localization
accuracy due to superior noise removal.
Abstract: Using mobile Internet access technologies and eservices,
various economic agents can efficiently offer their products
or services to a large number of clients. With the support of mobile
communications networks, the clients can have access to e-services,
anywhere and anytime. This is a base to establish a convergence of
technological and financial interests of mobile operators, software
developers, mobile terminals producers and e-content providers. In
this paper, a client server system is presented, using 3G, EDGE,
mobile terminals, for Stock Exchange e-services access.
Abstract: By employing BS (Base Station) cooperation we can
increase substantially the spectral efficiency and capacity of cellular
systems. The signals received at each BS are sent to a central unit that
performs the separation of the different MT (Mobile Terminal) using
the same physical channel. However, we need accurate sampling and
quantization of those signals so as to reduce the backhaul
communication requirements.
In this paper we consider the optimization of the quantizers for BS
cooperation systems. Four different quantizer types are analyzed and
optimized to allow better SQNR (Signal-to-Quantization Noise
Ratio) and BER (Bit Error Rate) performance.
Abstract: This paper presents a unified approach based graph
theory and system theory postulates for the modeling and analysis
of Simple open cycle Gas turbine system. In the present paper, the
simple open cycle gas turbine system has been modeled up to its subsystem
level and system variables have been identified to develop the
process subgraphs. The theorems and algorithms of the graph theory
have been used to represent behavioural properties of the system like
rate of heat and work transfers rates, pressure drops and temperature
drops in the involved processes of the system. The processes have
been represented as edges of the process subgraphs and their limits
as the vertices of the process subgraphs. The system across variables
and through variables has been used to develop terminal equations of
the process subgraphs of the system. The set of equations developed
for vertices and edges of network graph are used to solve the system
for its process variables.
Abstract: In this paper, hybrid FDMA-TDMA access technique in a cooperative distributive fashion introducing and implementing a modified protocol introduced in [1] is analyzed termed as Power and Cooperation Diversity Gain Protocol (PCDGP). A wireless network consists of two users terminal , two relays and a destination terminal equipped with two antennas. The relays are operating in amplify-and-forward (AF) mode with a fixed gain. Two operating modes: cooperation-gain mode and powergain mode are exploited from source terminals to relays, as it is working in a best channel selection scheme. Vertical BLAST (Bell Laboratories Layered Space Time) or V-BLAST with minimum mean square error (MMSE) nulling is used at the relays to perfectly detect the joint signals from multiple source terminals. The performance is analyzed using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation scheme and investigated over independent and identical (i.i.d) Rayleigh, Ricean-K and Nakagami-m fading environments. Subsequently, simulation results show that the proposed scheme can provide better signal quality of uplink users in a cooperative communication system using hybrid FDMATDMA technique.
