Abstract: The nineteenth century was characterized by major educational reforms in the Arab World. One of the unintended outcomes of colonization in Arab countries was the initiation of women liberation as well as the introduction of modern education and its application in sensitizing people on the rights of women and their liberation. The reforms were often attributed to various undercurrents that took place at different levels within the Ottoman Empire, and particularly the arrival and influence of the Christian missionaries were supported by the American and European governments. These trends were also significantly attributed to the increase in the presence of Europeans in the region, as well as the introduction of secular ideas and approaches related to the meaning of modernity. Using literary analysis as a method, this paper examines the role of an important male figure like the political activist and writer Qāsim Amīn and the religious reformer Muḥammad ʻAbduh in starting this discourse and shows their impact on the emancipation of women movement (Taḥrīr), and how later women led the movement with their published work. This paper explores Arab Salons and the initiation of women’s literary circles. Women from wealthy families in Egypt and Syria who had studied in Europe or interacted with European counterparts began these circles. These salons acted as central locations where people could meet and hold discussions on political, social, and literary trends as they happened each day. The paper concludes with a discussion of current debates between the Islamist and the secularist branches of the movement today. While the Islamists believe that adhering to the core of Islam with some of its contested position on women is a modern ideology of liberation that fits the current culture of modern time Egypt; the secularists argue that the influence that Islam has on the women’s liberation movement in Egypt has been a threat to the natural success and progress of the movement, which was initiated in the early nineteenth century independent of the more recent trends towards religiosity in the country.
Abstract: Steam reforming is industrially important as it is
incorporated in several major chemical processes including the
production of ammonia, methanol, hydrogen and ox alcohols. Due to
the strongly endothermic nature of the process, a large amount of heat
is supplied by fuel burning (commonly natural gas) in the furnace
chamber. Reaction conversions, tube catalyst life, energy
consumption and CO2 emission represent the principal factors
affecting the performance of this unit and are directly influenced by
the high operating temperatures and pressures.
This study presents a simulation of the performance of the
reforming of methane in a primary reformer, through a developed
empirical relation which enables to investigate the effects of
operating parameters such as the pressure, temperature, steam to
carbon ratio on the production of hydrogen, as well as the fraction of
non converted methane.
It appears from this analysis that the exit temperature Te, the
operating pressure as well the steam to carbon ratio has an important
effect on the reforming of methane.
Abstract: The tubes in an Ammonia primary reformer furnace
operate close to the limits of materials technology in terms of the
stress induced as a result of very high temperatures, combined with
large differential pressures across the tube wall. Operation at tube
wall temperatures significantly above design can result in a rapid
increase in the number of tube failures, since tube life is very
sensitive to the absolute operating temperature of the tube. Clearly it
is important to measure tube wall temperatures accurately in order to
prevent premature tube failure by overheating.. In the present study,
the catalyst tubes in an Ammonia primary reformer has been modeled
taking into consideration heat, mass and momentum transfer as well
as reformer characteristics.. The investigations concern the effects of
tube characteristics and superficial tube wall temperatures on of the
percentage of heat flux, unconverted methane and production of
Hydrogen for various values of steam to carbon ratios. The results
show the impact of catalyst tubes length and diameters on the
performance of operating parameters in ammonia primary reformers.
Abstract: Abai Kunanbayev is famous for being enlightener,
composer, interpreter, social agent, philosopher, reformer, who
wanted to enrich Kazakh literature by emergence with Russian and
European culture, and also as a founder of Kazakh written literary
language. Abai Kunanbayev was born in 1845 in East Kazakhstan
area and passed away in 1904 in his hometown. His oeuvre absorbed
and reflected all changes in the life of Kazakh society of the second
half of XIX century. Because ХІХ century, especially its second half,
was an important transition period for Kazakhstan, which radically
changed traditional way of Kazakh society and predetermined further
development in consequence of activation of Russian colonial policy
and approval of commodity-money relations in Steppe Land.Abai
Kunanbayev, besides Arabic and Persian common words and
loanwords from Quran in his words of edification, had used a lot of
words of Arabic, Persian, Latin, Russian, Nogai, Shaghatai, Polish,
Greek, Turkish, which are used in the Kazakh language.
Abstract: Partial oxidation (POX) of light hydrocarbons (e.g.
methane) is occurred in the first part of the autothermal reformer
(ATR). The results of the detailed modeling of the reformer based on
the thermodynamic model of the POX and 1D heterogeneous
catalytic model for the fixed bed section are considered here.
According to the results, the overall performance of the ATR can be
improved by changing the important feed parameters.
Abstract: In this paper a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM)
fuel cell power system including burner, steam reformer, heat
exchanger and water heater has been considered to meet the
electrical, heating, cooling and domestic hot water loads of
residential building which in Tehran. The system uses natural gas as
fuel and works in CHP mode. Design and operating conditions of a
PEM fuel cell system is considered in this study. The energy
requirements of residential building and the number of fuel cell
stacks to meet them have been estimated. The method involved
exergy analysis and entropy generation thorough the months of the
year. Results show that all the energy needs of the building can be
met with 12 fuel cell stacks at a nominal capacity of 8.5 kW. Exergy
analysis of the CHP system shows that the increase in the ambient air
temperature from 1oC to 40oC, will have an increase of entropy
generation by 5.73%.Maximum entropy generates for 15 hour in 15th
of June and 15th of July is estimated to amount at 12624 (kW/K).
Entropy generation of this system through a year is estimated to
amount to 1004.54 GJ/k.year.
Abstract: A rigorous two-dimensional model is developed for simulating the operation of a less-investigated type steam reformer having a considerably lower operating Reynolds number, higher tube diameter, and non-availability of extra steam in the feed compared with conventional steam reformers. Simulation results show that reasonable predictions can only be achieved when certain correlations for wall to fluid heat transfer equations are applied. Due to severe operating conditions, in all cases, strong radial temperature gradients inside the reformer tubes have been found. Furthermore, the results show how a certain catalyst loading profile will affect the operation of the reformer.
Abstract: The AL-MAJIRI school system is a variant of private
Arabic and Islamic schools which cater for the religious and moral development of Muslims. In the past, the system produced clerics,
scholars, judges, religious reformers, eminent teachers and great men who are worthy of emulation, particularly in northern Nigeria.
Gradually, the system lost its glory but continued to discharge its
educational responsibilities to a certain extent. This paper takes a
look at the activities of the AL-MAJIRI schools. The introduction
provides background information about Nigeria where the schools
operate. This is followed by an overview of the Nigerian educational system, the nature and the features of the AL-MAJIRI school system,
its weaknesses and the current challenges facing the schools. The paper concludes with emphasis on the urgent need for a comprehensive reform of the curriculum content of the schools. The step by step procedure required for the reform is discussed.
Abstract: In this study, a reformer model simulation to use
refinery (Farashband refinery, Iran) waste natural gas. In the
petroleum and allied sectors where natural gas is being encountered
(in form of associated gas) without prior preparation for its positive
use, its combustion (which takes place in flares, an equipment through
which they are being disposed) has become a great problem because
of its associated environmental problems in form of gaseous emission.
The proposed model is used to product syngas from waste natural gas.
A detailed steady model described by a set of ordinary differential and
algebraic equations was developed to predict the behavior of the
overall process. The proposed steady reactor model was validated
against process data of a reformer synthesis plant recorded and a good
agreement was achieved. H2/CO ratio has important effect on Fischer-
Tropsch synthesis reactor product and we try to achieve this parameter
with best designing reformer reactor. We study different kind of
reformer reactors and then select auto thermal reforming process of
natural gas in a fixed bed reformer that adjustment H2/CO ratio with
CO2 and H2O injection. Finally a strategy was proposed for prevention
of extra natural gas to atmosphere.
