Abstract: In this work, the surgical theater of a local hospital in
KSA was analyzed using simulation. The focus was on attempting to
answer questions related to how many Operating Rooms (ORs) to
open and to analyze the performance of the surgical theater in
general and mainly the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to assist
making decisions regarding PACU staffing. The surgical theater
consists of ten operating rooms and the PACU unit which has a
maximum capacity of fifteen beds. Different sequencing rules to
sequence the surgical cases were tested and the Longest Case First
(LCF) were superior to others. The results of the different
alternatives developed and tested can be used by the manager as a
tool to plan and manage the OR and PACU
Abstract: A new strain of Type A influenza virus can cause the
transmission of H1N1 virus. This virus can spread between the
people by coughing and sneezing. Because the people are always
movement, so this virus can be easily spread. In this study, we
construct the dynamical network model of H1N1 virus by separating
the human into five groups; susceptible, exposed, infectious,
quarantine and recovered groups. The movement of people between
houses (local level) is considered. The behaviors of solutions to our
dynamical model are shown for the different parameters.
Abstract: In this work, study the location of interface in a stirred vessel with Rushton impeller by computational fluid dynamic was presented. To modeling rotating the impeller, sliding mesh (SM) technique was used and standard k-ε model was selected for turbulence closure. Mean tangential, radial and axial velocities and also turbulent kinetic energy (k) and turbulent dissipation rate (ε) in various points of tank was investigated. Results show sensitivity of system to location of interface and radius of 7 to 10cm for interface in the vessel with existence characteristics cause to increase the accuracy of simulation.
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a
predistorter(PD) is often employed to alleviate nonlinear distortions
due to operating a power amplifier near saturation, thereby improving
the system performance and reducing the interference to adjacent
channels. This paper presents a new adaptive polynomial digital
predistorter(DPD). The proposed DPD uses Coordinate Rotation
Digital Computing(CORDIC) processors and PD process by pipelined
architecture. It is simpler and faster than conventional adaptive
polynomial DPD. The performance of the proposed DPD is proved by
MATLAB simulation.

Abstract: This paper deals with the conceptual design of the
new aeroelastic demonstrator for the whirl flutter simulation. The
paper gives a theoretical background of the whirl flutter phenomenon
and describes the events of the whirl flutter occurrence in the
aerospace practice. The second part is focused on the experimental
research of the whirl flutter on aeroelastic similar models. Finally the
concept of the new aeroelastic demonstrator is described. The
demonstrator represents the wing and engine of the twin turboprop
commuter aircraft including a driven propeller. It allows the changes
of the main structural parameters influencing the whirl flutter
stability characteristics. It is intended for the experimental
investigation of the whirl flutter in the wind tunnel. The results will
be utilized for validation of analytical methods and software tools.
Abstract: This paper proposes the numerical simulation of the
investment casting of gold jewelry. It aims to study the behavior of
fluid flow during mould filling and solidification and to optimize the
process parameters, which lead to predict and control casting defects
such as gas porosity and shrinkage porosity. A finite difference
method, computer simulation software FLOW-3D was used to
simulate the jewelry casting process. The simplified model was
designed for both numerical simulation and real casting production.
A set of sensor acquisitions were allocated on the different positions
of the wax tree of the model to detect filling times, while a set of
thermocouples were allocated to detect the temperature during
casting and cooling. Those detected data were applied to validate the
results of the numerical simulation to the results of the real casting.
The resulting comparisons signify that the numerical simulation can
be used as an effective tool in investment-casting-process
optimization and casting-defect prediction.
Abstract: One of the essential requirements in order to have a
realistic surgical simulator is real-time interaction by means of a
haptic interface is. In fact, reproducing haptic sensations increases
the realism of the simulation. However, the interaction need to be
performed in real-time, since a delay between the user action and the
system reaction reduces the user immersion. In this paper, we present
a prototype of the coronary stent implant simulator developed in the
HERMES Project; this system allows real-time interactions with a
artery by means of a specific haptic device; thus the user can
interactively navigate in a reconstructed artery and force feedback is
produced when contact occurs between the artery walls and the
medical instruments
Abstract: The Integrated Performance Modelling Environment
(IPME) is a powerful simulation engine for task simulation and
performance analysis. However, it has no high level cognition such
as memory and reasoning for complex simulation. This article
introduces a knowledge representation and reasoning scheme that can
accommodate uncertainty in simulations of military personnel with
IPME. This approach demonstrates how advanced reasoning models
that support similarity-based associative process, rule-based abstract
process, multiple reasoning methods and real-time interaction can be
integrated with conventional task network modelling to provide
greater functionality and flexibility when modelling operator
performance.
Abstract: The world demand for potable water is
increasing every day with growing population. Desalination
using solar energy is suitable for potable water production
from brackish and seawater. In this paper, we present a
theoretical study of solar distillation in a single basin under
the open environmental conditions of Chabahar-Iran. The still
has a base area of 2000mm×500mm with a glass cover
inclined at 25° in order to obtain extra solar energy. We model
the still and conduct its energy balance equations under minor
assumptions. We computed the temperatures of glass cover,
seawater interface, moist air and bottom using numerical
method. The investigation addressed the following: The still
productivity, distilled water salinity and still performance in
terms of the still efficiency. Calculated still productivity in
July was higher than December. So in this paper, we show
that still productivity is directly functioning of solar radiation.
Abstract: This paper describes a system-level SoC energy
consumption estimation method based on a dynamic behavior of
embedded software in the early stages of the SoC development. A
major problem of SOC development is development rework caused by
unreliable energy consumption estimation at the early stages. The
energy consumption of an SoC used in embedded systems is strongly
affected by the dynamic behavior of the software. At the early stages
of SoC development, modeling with a high level of abstraction is
required for both the dynamic behavior of the software, and the
behavior of the SoC. We estimate the energy consumption by a UML
model-based simulation. The proposed method is applied for an actual
embedded system in an MFP. The energy consumption estimation of
the SoC is more accurate than conventional methods and this proposed
method is promising to reduce the chance of development rework in
the SoC development. ∈
Abstract: In this work a surgical simulator is produced which
enables a training otologist to conduct a virtual, real-time prosthetic
insertion. The simulator provides the Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon
with real-time visual and haptic responses during virtual cochlear
implantation into a 3D model of the human Scala Tympani (ST). The
parametric model is derived from measured data as published in the
literature and accounts for human morphological variance, such as
differences in cochlear shape, enabling patient-specific pre- operative
assessment. Haptic modeling techniques use real physical data and
insertion force measurements, to develop a force model which
mimics the physical behavior of an implant as it collides with the ST
walls during an insertion. Output force profiles are acquired from the
insertion studies conducted in the work, to validate the haptic model.
The simulator provides the user with real-time, quantitative insertion
force information and associated electrode position as user inserts the
virtual implant into the ST model. The information provided by this
study may also be of use to implant manufacturers for design
enhancements as well as for training specialists in optimal force
administration, using the simulator. The paper reports on the methods
for anatomical modeling and haptic algorithm development, with
focus on simulator design, development, optimization and validation.
The techniques may be transferrable to other medical applications
that involve prosthetic device insertions where user vision is
obstructed.
