Abstract: In recent years, real-time spatial applications, like
location-aware services and traffic monitoring, have become more
and more important. Such applications result dynamic environments
where data as well as queries are continuously moving. As a result,
there is a tremendous amount of real-time spatial data generated
every day. The growth of the data volume seems to outspeed the
advance of our computing infrastructure. For instance, in real-time
spatial Big Data, users expect to receive the results of each query
within a short time period without holding in account the load
of the system. But with a huge amount of real-time spatial data
generated, the system performance degrades rapidly especially in
overload situations. To solve this problem, we propose the use of
data partitioning as an optimization technique. Traditional horizontal
and vertical partitioning can increase the performance of the system
and simplify data management. But they remain insufficient for
real-time spatial Big data; they can’t deal with real-time and
stream queries efficiently. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel
data partitioning approach for real-time spatial Big data named
VPA-RTSBD (Vertical Partitioning Approach for Real-Time Spatial
Big data). This contribution is an implementation of the Matching
algorithm for traditional vertical partitioning. We find, firstly, the
optimal attribute sequence by the use of Matching algorithm. Then,
we propose a new cost model used for database partitioning, for
keeping the data amount of each partition more balanced limit and
for providing a parallel execution guarantees for the most frequent
queries. VPA-RTSBD aims to obtain a real-time partitioning scheme
and deals with stream data. It improves the performance of query
execution by maximizing the degree of parallel execution. This affects
QoS (Quality Of Service) improvement in real-time spatial Big Data
especially with a huge volume of stream data. The performance of
our contribution is evaluated via simulation experiments. The results
show that the proposed algorithm is both efficient and scalable, and
that it outperforms comparable algorithms.
Abstract: Over the past decade, there has been a steep rise in
the data-driven analysis in major areas of medicine, such as clinical
decision support system, survival analysis, patient similarity analysis,
image analytics etc. Most of the data in the field are well-structured
and available in numerical or categorical formats which can be used
for experiments directly. But on the opposite end of the spectrum,
there exists a wide expanse of data that is intractable for direct
analysis owing to its unstructured nature which can be found in the
form of discharge summaries, clinical notes, procedural notes which
are in human written narrative format and neither have any relational
model nor any standard grammatical structure. An important step
in the utilization of these texts for such studies is to transform
and process the data to retrieve structured information from the
haystack of irrelevant data using information retrieval and data mining
techniques. To address this problem, the authors present Q-Map in
this paper, which is a simple yet robust system that can sift through
massive datasets with unregulated formats to retrieve structured
information aggressively and efficiently. It is backed by an effective
mining technique which is based on a string matching algorithm
that is indexed on curated knowledge sources, that is both fast
and configurable. The authors also briefly examine its comparative
performance with MetaMap, one of the most reputed tools for medical
concepts retrieval and present the advantages the former displays over
the latter.
Abstract: Matching high dimensional features between images is computationally expensive for exhaustive search approaches in computer vision. Although the dimension of the feature can be degraded by simplifying the prior knowledge of homography, matching accuracy may degrade as a tradeoff. In this paper, we present a feature matching method based on k-means algorithm that reduces the matching cost and matches the features between images instead of using a simplified geometric assumption. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the previous linear exhaustive search approaches in terms of the inlier ratio of matched pairs.
Abstract: Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) Systems are commonly used on Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) manufacturing. The use of this technology has been proven as highly efficient for process improvements and quality achievements. The correct extraction of the component for posterior analysis is a critical step of the AOI process. Nowadays, the Pattern Matching Algorithm is commonly used, although this algorithm requires extensive calculations and is time consuming. This paper will present an improved algorithm for the component localization process, with the capability of implementation in a parallel execution system.
Abstract: This paper discusses the design of an indoor mobile robot positioning system. The problem of indoor positioning is solved through Wi-Fi fingerprint positioning to implement a low cost deployment. A wireless fingerprint matching algorithm based on the similarity of unequal length sequences is presented. Candidate sequences selection is defined as a set of mappings, and detection errors caused by wireless hotspot stability and the change of interior pattern can be corrected by transforming the unequal length sequences into equal length sequences. The presented scheme was verified experimentally to achieve the accuracy requirements for an indoor positioning system with low deployment cost.
Abstract: This paper presents an overview of the history and development of stereo matching algorithms. Details from its inception, up to relatively recent techniques are described, noting challenges that have been surmounted across these past decades. Different components of these are explored, though focus is directed towards the local matching techniques. While global approaches have existed for some time, and demonstrated greater accuracy than their counterparts, they are generally quite slow. Many strides have been made more recently, allowing local methods to catch up in terms of accuracy, without sacrificing the overall performance.
Abstract: A human’s hand localization is revised by using radar cross section (RCS) measurements with a minimum root mean square (RMS) error matching algorithm on a touchless keypad mock-up model. RCS and frequency transfer function measurements are carried out in an indoor environment on the frequency ranged from 3.0 to 11.0 GHz to cover federal communications commission (FCC) standards. The touchless keypad model is tested in two different distances between the hand and the keypad. The initial distance of 19.50 cm is identical to the heights of transmitting (Tx) and receiving (Rx) antennas, while the second distance is 29.50 cm from the keypad. Moreover, the effects of Rx angles relative to the hand of human factor are considered. The RCS input parameters are compared with power loss parameters at each frequency. From the results, the performance of the RCS input parameters with the second distance, 29.50 cm at 3 GHz is better than the others.
Abstract: This paper evaluates the accrual based scheduling for
cloud in single and multi-resource system. Numerous organizations
benefit from Cloud computing by hosting their applications. The
cloud model provides needed access to computing with potentially
unlimited resources. Scheduling is tasks and resources mapping to a
certain optimal goal principle. Scheduling, schedules tasks to virtual
machines in accordance with adaptable time, in sequence under
transaction logic constraints. A good scheduling algorithm improves
CPU use, turnaround time, and throughput. In this paper, three realtime
cloud services scheduling algorithm for single resources and
multiple resources are investigated. Experimental results show
Resource matching algorithm performance to be superior for both
single and multi-resource scheduling when compared to benefit first
scheduling, Migration, Checkpoint algorithms.
Abstract: Modelling of the earth's surface and evaluation of
urban environment, with 3D models, is an important research topic.
New stereo capabilities of high resolution optical satellites images,
such as the tri-stereo mode of Pleiades, combined with new image
matching algorithms, are now available and can be applied in urban
area analysis. In addition, photogrammetry software packages gained
new, more efficient matching algorithms, such as SGM, as well as
improved filters to deal with shadow areas, can achieve more dense
and more precise results.
This paper describes a comparison between 3D data extracted
from tri-stereo and dual stereo satellite images, combined with pixel
based matching and Wallis filter. The aim was to improve the
accuracy of 3D models especially in urban areas, in order to assess if
satellite images are appropriate for a rapid evaluation of urban
environments.
The results showed that 3D models achieved by Pleiades tri-stereo
outperformed, both in terms of accuracy and detail, the result
obtained from a Geo-eye pair. The assessment was made with
reference digital surface models derived from high resolution aerial
photography. This could mean that tri-stereo images can be
successfully used for the proposed urban change analyses.
Abstract: This paper presents general results on the Java source
code snippet detection problem. We propose the tool which uses
graph and subgraph isomorphism detection. A number of solutions
for all of these tasks have been proposed in the literature. However,
although that all these solutions are really fast, they compare just the
constant static trees. Our solution offers to enter an input sample
dynamically with the Scripthon language while preserving an
acceptable speed. We used several optimizations to achieve very low
number of comparisons during the matching algorithm.
Abstract: String matching also known as pattern matching is
one of primary concept for network security. In this area the
effectiveness and efficiency of string matching algorithms is
important for applications in network security such as network
intrusion detection, virus detection, signature matching and web
content filtering system. This paper presents brief review on some of
string matching techniques used for network security.
Abstract: Pattern matching is one of the fundamental applications in molecular biology. Searching DNA related data is a common activity for molecular biologists. In this paper we explore the applicability of a new pattern matching technique called Index based Forward Backward Multiple Pattern Matching algorithm(IFBMPM), for DNA Sequences. Our approach avoids unnecessary comparisons in the DNA Sequence due to this; the number of comparisons of the proposed algorithm is very less compared to other existing popular methods. The number of comparisons rapidly decreases and execution time decreases accordingly and shows better performance.
Abstract: Full search block matching algorithm is widely used for hardware implementation of motion estimators in video compression algorithms. In this paper we are proposing a new architecture, which consists of a 2D parallel processing unit and a 1D unit both working in parallel. The proposed architecture reduces both data access power and computational power which are the main causes of power consumption in integer motion estimation. It also completes the operations with nearly the same number of clock cycles as compared to a 2D systolic array architecture. In this work sum of absolute difference (SAD)-the most repeated operation in block matching, is calculated in two steps. The first step is to calculate the SAD for alternate rows by a 2D parallel unit. If the SAD calculated by the parallel unit is less than the stored minimum SAD, the SAD of the remaining rows is calculated by the 1D unit. Early termination, which stops avoidable computations has been achieved with the help of alternate rows method proposed in this paper and by finding a low initial SAD value based on motion vector prediction. Data reuse has been applied to the reference blocks in the same search area which significantly reduced the memory access.
Abstract: A lot of matching algorithms with different characteristics have been introduced in recent years. For real time systems these algorithms are usually based on minutiae features. In this paper we introduce a novel approach for feature extraction in which the extracted features are independent of shift and rotation of the fingerprint and at the meantime the matching operation is performed much more easily and with higher speed and accuracy. In this new approach first for any fingerprint a reference point and a reference orientation is determined and then based on this information features are converted into polar coordinates. Due to high speed and accuracy of this approach and small volume of extracted features and easily execution of matching operation this approach is the most appropriate for real time applications.
Abstract: Human pose estimation can be executed using Active Shape Models. The existing techniques for applying to human-body research using Active Shape Models, such as human detection, primarily take the form of silhouette of human body. This technique is not able to estimate accurately for human pose to concern two arms and legs, as the silhouette of human body represents the shape as out of round. To solve this problem, we applied the human body model as stick-figure, “skeleton". The skeleton model of human body can give consideration to various shapes of human pose. To obtain effective estimation result, we applied background subtraction and deformed matching algorithm of primary Active Shape Models in the fitting process. The images which were used to make the model were 600 human bodies, and the model has 17 landmark points which indicate body junction and key features of human pose. The maximum iteration for the fitting process was 30 times and the execution time was less than .03 sec.
Abstract: An Advance Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is a computer system on board a vehicle which is used to reduce the risk of vehicular accidents by monitoring factors relating to the driver, vehicle and environment and taking some action when a risk is identified. Much work has been done on assessing vehicle and environmental state but there is still comparatively little published work that tackles the problem of driver state. Visual attention is one such driver state. In fact, some researchers claim that lack of attention is the main cause of accidents as factors such as fatigue, alcohol or drug use, distraction and speeding all impair the driver-s capacity to pay attention to the vehicle and road conditions [1]. This seems to imply that the main cause of accidents is inappropriate driver behaviour in cases where the driver is not giving full attention while driving. The work presented in this paper proposes an ADAS system which uses an image based template matching algorithm to detect if a driver is failing to observe particular windscreen cells. This is achieved by dividing the windscreen into 24 uniform cells (4 rows of 6 columns) and matching video images of the driver-s left eye with eye-gesture templates drawn from images of the driver looking at the centre of each windscreen cell. The main contribution of this paper is to assess the accuracy of this approach using Receiver Operating Characteristic analysis. The results of our evaluation give a sensitivity value of 84.3% and a specificity value of 85.0% for the eye-gesture template approach indicating that it may be useful for driver point of regard determinations.
Abstract: Bioinformatics and Cheminformatics use computer as disciplines providing tools for acquisition, storage, processing, analysis, integrate data and for the development of potential applications of biological and chemical data. A chemical database is one of the databases that exclusively designed to store chemical information. NMRShiftDB is one of the main databases that used to represent the chemical structures in 2D or 3D structures. SMILES format is one of many ways to write a chemical structure in a linear format. In this study we extracted Antimicrobial Structures in SMILES format from NMRShiftDB and stored it in our Local Data Warehouse with its corresponding information. Additionally, we developed a searching tool that would response to user-s query using the JME Editor tool that allows user to draw or edit molecules and converts the drawn structure into SMILES format. We applied Quick Search algorithm to search for Antimicrobial Structures in our Local Data Ware House.
Abstract: Matching algorithms have significant importance in
speaker recognition. Feature vectors of the unknown utterance are
compared to feature vectors of the modeled speakers as a last step in
speaker recognition. A similarity score is found for every model in
the speaker database. Depending on the type of speaker recognition,
these scores are used to determine the author of unknown speech
samples. For speaker verification, similarity score is tested against a
predefined threshold and either acceptance or rejection result is
obtained. In the case of speaker identification, the result depends on
whether the identification is open set or closed set. In closed set
identification, the model that yields the best similarity score is
accepted. In open set identification, the best score is tested against a
threshold, so there is one more possible output satisfying the
condition that the speaker is not one of the registered speakers in
existing database. This paper focuses on closed set speaker
identification using a modified version of a well known matching
algorithm. The results of new matching algorithm indicated better
performance on YOHO international speaker recognition database.
Abstract: Duplicated region detection is a technical method to
expose copy-paste forgeries on digital images. Copy-paste is one
of the common types of forgeries to clone portion of an image
in order to conceal or duplicate special object. In this type of
forgery detection, extracting robust block feature and also high
time complexity of matching step are two main open problems.
This paper concentrates on computational time and proposes a local
block matching algorithm based on block clustering to enhance time
complexity. Time complexity of the proposed algorithm is formulated
and effects of two parameter, block size and number of cluster, on
efficiency of this algorithm are considered. The experimental results
and mathematical analysis demonstrate this algorithm is more costeffective
than lexicographically algorithms in time complexity issue
when the image is complex.
Abstract: Functioning of a biometric system in large part
depends on the performance of the similarity measure function.
Frequently a generalized similarity distance measure function such as
Euclidian distance or Mahalanobis distance is applied to the task of
matching biometric feature vectors. However, often accuracy of a
biometric system can be greatly improved by designing a customized
matching algorithm optimized for a particular biometric application.
In this paper we propose a tailored similarity measure function for
behavioral biometric systems based on the expert knowledge of the
feature level data in the domain. We compare performance of a
proposed matching algorithm to that of other well known similarity
distance functions and demonstrate its superiority with respect to the
chosen domain.
