Abstract: The consumption of functional foods is very common. For this reason, many products which are probiotic, prebiotic, energy reduced and fat reduced are developed. In this research, physicochemical and microbiological properties of functional kefir, kefir yogurt and chickpea yogurt were examined. For this purpose, pH values, titration acidities, viscosity values, water holding capacities, serum separation values, acetaldehyde contents, tyrosine contents, the count of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria count and mold-yeast counts were determined. As a result of performed analysis, the differences between titration acidities, serum separation values, water holding capacities, acetaldehyde and tyrosine contents of samples were statistically significant (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences on pH values, viscosities, and microbiological properties of samples (p > 0.05). Consequently industrial production of functional kefir yogurt and chickpea yogurt may be advised.
Abstract: Rice plant hoppers (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) have been causing extensive economic damage in rice and are considered as serious threat in rice producing countries of Asia. They have developed resistance to major groups of chemical insecticide, and severe outbreaks occur commonly throughout Asia. To control these nuisance pests, Nihon Nohyaku Co., Ltd., recently discovered an insecticide, benzpyrimoxan (proposed ISO name), which is under development as NNI-1501 (development code). Benzpyrimoxan has a unique chemical structure which contains benzyloxy and cyclic acetal groups on pyrimidine moiety (5-(1,3-dioxan-2-yl)-4-[4- (trifluoromethyl)benzyloxy]pyrimidine). In order to clarify the biological properties of benzpyrimoxan, we conducted several experiments and found the following results. Benzpyrimoxan has high activity against nymphal stages of rice plant hoppers without any adulticidal activity. It provides excellent and long lasting control against rice plant hoppers, including populations that have developed resistance to several other chemical groups of insecticide. The study on its mode of action is undergoing. These features highlight the versatility of this insecticide as an effective and valuable tool from the viewpoints of insecticide resistance management and integrated pest management program. With the use of benzpyrimoxan, farmers shall be able to lead the best yield potential by keeping the population density of rice plant hoppers and associated virus diseases under control.
Abstract: Due to the complexity of olefinic plants, various environmental pollutants exist such as NOx, CO2, Tar Water, and most importantly Spent Caustic. In this paper, instead of investigating ways of treating this pollutant, we evaluated the production in relation to plant’s variable items. We primarily discussed the factors affecting the quality of the output spent caustic such as impurities in the feed of olefin plant, the amount of injected dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) in furnaces, variation in feed composition, differences among gas temperatures and the concentration of caustic solution at the bottom of the tower. The results of the laboratory proved that in the formation of Red Oil, 1,3butadiene and acetaldehyde followed free radical and aldol condensation mechanism respectively. By increasing the injection rate of DMDS, Mercaptide amount increases in the effluent. In addition, pyrolysis gasoline accumulation is directly related to caustic concentration in the tower. Increasing naphtenes in the liquid feed augments the amount of 1,3butadiene, as one of the sources of Red Oil formation. By increasing the oxygenated compound in the feed, the rate of acetaldehyde formation, as the main source of Red Oil formation, increases.
Abstract: Metabolomics has become a rising field of research
for various diseases, particularly cancer. Increases or decreases in
metabolite concentrations in the human body are indicative of various
cancers. Further elucidation of metabolic pathways and their
significance in cancer research may greatly spur medicinal discovery.
We analyzed the metabolomics profiles of lung cancer. Thirty-three
metabolites were selected as significant. These metabolites are
involved in 37 metabolic pathways delivered by MetaboAnalyst
software. The top pathways are glyoxylate and dicarboxylate
pathway (its hubs are formic acid and glyoxylic acid) along with
Citrate cycle pathway followed by Taurine and hypotaurine pathway
(the hubs in the latter are taurine and sulfoacetaldehyde) and Glycine,
serine, and threonine pathway (the hubs are glycine and L-serine). We
studied interactions of the metabolites with the proteins involved in
cancer-related signaling networks, and developed an approach to
metabolomics biomarker use in cancer diagnostics. Our analysis
showed that a significant part of lung-cancer-related metabolites
interacts with main cancer-related signaling pathways present in this
network: PI3K–mTOR–AKT pathway, RAS–RAF–ERK1/2 pathway,
and NFKB pathway. These results can be employed for use of
metabolomics profiles in elucidation of the related cancer proteins
signaling networks.
Abstract: Al2(HPO4)3 was easily prepared and used as a solid
acid in acetalization of carbonyl compounds at room temperature and
under solvent-free conditions. The protection was done in short
reaction times and in good to high isolated yields. The cheapness and
availability of this reagent with easy procedure and work-up make
this method attractive for the organic synthesis.
Abstract: The production of Dimethyl acetal, Isovaleradehyde and Pyridine were simulated using Aspen Plus simulation. Upgrading cleaning water from wine industrial production is the main objective of the project. The winery waste composes of Acetaldehyde, Methanol, Ethyl Acetate, 1-propanol, water, iso-amyl alcohol and iso-butyl alcohol. The project is separated into three parts; separation, reaction, and purification. Various processes were considered to maximize the profit along with obtaining high purity and recovery of each component with optimum heat duty. The results show a significant value of the product with purity more than 75% and recovery over 98%.
Abstract: The influence of copper promoters and reaction
conditions on the formation of alcohols byproducts of a common
Fischer-Tropsch synthesis used iron-based catalysts were investigated.
A good compromise of 28%Cu/FeKLaSiO2 can lead to the
optimization of an improved Fischer-Tropsch catalyst. The product
distribution shifts towards hydrocarbons with increasing the reaction
temperature, while pressure promotes the formation of alcohols. It was
found that the production of either alcohols or hydrocarbons followed
A-S-F distributions, and their α parameters were essentially different
which indicated a competition in the growing chain between the two
species. TPD after acetaldehyde adsorption gave strong evidence of
the insertion of a C1 oxygen-containing species into an alkyl chain.
Abstract: The nature of adsorbed species on catalytic surface
over an industrial precipitated iron-based high temperature catalyst
during FTS was investigated by in-situ DRIFTS and chemical
trapping. The formulation of the mechanism of oxygenates formation
and key intermediates were also discussed. Numerous oxygenated
precursors and crucial intermediates were found by in-situ DRIFTS,
such as surface acetate, acetyl and methoxide. The results showed that
adsorbed molecules on surface such as methanol or acetaldehyde
could react with basic sites such as lattice oxygen or free surface
hydroxyls. Adsorbed molecules also had reactivity of oxidizing.
Moreover, acetyl as a key intermediate for oxygenates was observed
by investigation of CH3OH + CO and CH3I + CO + H2. Based on the
nature of surface properties, the mechanism of oxygenates formation
on precipitated iron-based high temperature catalyst was discussed.
