Abstract: Atherosclerosis is the condition in which an artery
wall thickens as the result of a build-up of fatty materials such as
cholesterol. It is a syndrome affecting arterial blood vessels, a
chronic inflammatory response in the walls of arteries, in large part
due to the accumulation of macrophage white blood cells and
promoted by low density (especially small particle) lipoproteins
(plasma proteins that carry cholesterol and triglycerides) without
adequate removal of fats and cholesterol from the macrophages by
functional high density lipoproteins (HDL). It is commonly referred
to as a hardening or furring of the arteries. It is caused by the
formation of multiple plaques within the arteries.
Abstract: According to dramatic growth of internet services, an easy and prompt service deployment has been important for internet service providers to successfully maintain time-to-market. Before global service deployment, they have to pay the big cost for service evaluation to make a decision of the proper system location, system scale, service delay and so on. But, intra-Lab evaluation tends to have big gaps in the measured data compared with the realistic situation, because it is very difficult to accurately expect the local service environment, network congestion, service delay, network bandwidth and other factors. Therefore, to resolve or ease the upper problems, we propose multiple cloud based GPES Broker system and use case that helps internet service providers to alleviate the above problems in beta release phase and to make a prompt decision for their service launching. By supporting more realistic and reliable evaluation information, the proposed GPES Broker system saves the service release cost and enables internet service provider to make a prompt decision about their service launching to various remote regions.
Abstract: Method of multiple scales is used in the paper in order
to derive an amplitude evolution equation for the most unstable mode
from two-dimensional shallow water equations under the rigid-lid
assumption. It is assumed that shallow mixing layer is slightly curved
in the longitudinal direction and contains small particles. Dynamic
interaction between carrier fluid and particles is neglected. It is
shown that the evolution equation is the complex Ginzburg-Landau
equation. Explicit formulas for the computation of the coefficients of
the equation are obtained.
Abstract: In this article we address the problem of mobile robot formation control. Indeed, the most work, in this domain, have studied extensively classical control for keeping a formation of mobile robots. In this work, we design an FLC (Fuzzy logic Controller) controller for separation and bearing control (SBC). Indeed, the leader mobile robot is controlled to follow an arbitrary reference path, and the follower mobile robot use the FSBC (Fuzzy Separation and Bearing Control) to keep constant relative distance and constant angle to the leader robot. The efficiency and simplicity of this control law has been proven by simulation on different situation.
Abstract: The objectives of this research were to explore factors
influencing knowledge management process in the manufacturing
industry and develop a model to support knowledge management
processes. The studied factors were technology infrastructure, human
resource, knowledge sharing, and the culture of the organization. The
knowledge management processes included discovery, capture,
sharing, and application. Data were collected through questionnaires
and analyzed using multiple linear regression and multiple
correlation. The results found that technology infrastructure, human
resource, knowledge sharing, and culture of the organization
influenced the discovery and capture processes. However, knowledge
sharing had no influence in sharing and application processes. A
model to support knowledge management processes was developed,
which indicated that sharing knowledge needed further improvement
in the organization.
Abstract: Server provisioning is one of the most attractive topics in virtualization systems. Virtualization is a method of running multiple independent virtual operating systems on a single physical computer. It is a way of maximizing physical resources to maximize the investment in hardware. Additionally, it can help to consolidate servers, improve hardware utilization and reduce the consumption of power and physical space in the data center. However, management of heterogeneous workloads, especially for resource utilization of the server, or so called provisioning becomes a challenge. In this paper, a new concept for managing workloads based on user behavior is presented. The experimental results show that user behaviors are different in each type of service workload and time. Understanding user behaviors may improve the efficiency of management in provisioning concept. This preliminary study may be an approach to improve management of data centers running heterogeneous workloads for provisioning in virtualization system.
Abstract: Internet addiction has become a critical problem on
adolescents in Taiwan, and its negative effects on various dimensions
of adolescent development caught the attention of educational and
psychological experts. This study examined the correlation between
cognitive (locus of control) and emotion (emotion venting strategies)
factors on internet addiction of adolescents in Taiwan. Using the
Compulsive Internet Use (CIU) and the Emotion Venting Strategy
scales, a survey was conducted and 215 effective samples (students
ranging from12 to14 years old) returned. Quantitative analysis
methods such as descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson
correlations and multiple regression were adopted. The results were as
follows: 1. Severity of Internet addiction has significant gender
differences; boys were at a higher risk than girls in becoming addicted
to the Internet. 2. Emotion venting, locus of control and internet
addiction have been shown to be positive correlated with one another.
3. Setting the locus of control as the control variable, emotion venting
strategy has positive and significant contribution to internet addiction.
The results of this study suggest that coaching deconstructive emotion
strategies and cognitive believes are encouraged to integrate with
actual field work.
Abstract: A Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) Processor is
capable of executing instructions from multiple threads in the same
cycle. SMT in fact was introduced as a powerful architecture to
superscalar to increase the throughput of the processor.
Simultaneous Multithreading is a technique that permits multiple
instructions from multiple independent applications or threads to
compete limited resources each cycle. While the fetch unit has been
identified as one of the major bottlenecks of SMT architecture, several
fetch schemes were proposed by prior works to enhance the fetching
efficiency and overall performance.
In this paper, we propose a novel fetch policy called queue situation
identifier (QSI) which counts some kind of long latency instructions of
each thread each cycle then properly selects which threads to fetch
next cycle. Simulation results show that in best case our fetch policy
can achieve 30% on speedup and also can reduce the data cache level 1
miss rate.
Abstract: A simple network model is developed in OPNET to
study the performance of the Wi-Fi protocol. The model is simulated
in OPNET and performance factors such as load, throughput and delay
are analysed from the model. Four applications such as oracle, http, ftp
and voice are applied over the Wireless LAN network to determine the
throughput. The voice application utilises a considerable amount of
bandwidth of up to 5Mbps, as a result the 802.11g standard of the
Wi-Fi protocol was chosen which can support a data rate of up to
54Mbps. Results indicate that when the load in the Wi-Fi network is
increased the queuing delay on the point-to-point links in the Wi-Fi
network significantly reduces until it is comparable to that of WiMAX.
In conclusion, the queuing delay of the Wi-Fi protocol for the network
model simulated was about 0.00001secs comparable to WiMAX
network values.
Abstract: The decision of information technology (IT) outsourcing requires close attention to the evaluation of supplier selection process because the selection decision involves conflicting multiple criteria and is replete with complex decision making problems. Selecting the most appropriate suppliers is considered an important strategic decision that may impact the performance of outsourcing engagements. The objective of this paper is to aid decision makers to evaluate and assess possible IT outsourcing suppliers. An axiomatic design based fuzzy group decision making is adopted to evaluate supplier alternatives. Finally, a case study is given to demonstrate the potential of the methodology. Abstract: Reachability graph (RG) generation suffers from the
problem of exponential space and time complexity. To alleviate the
more critical problem of time complexity, this paper presents the new
approach for RG generation for the Petri net (PN) models of parallel
processes. Independent RGs for each parallel process in the PN
structure are generated in parallel and cross-product of these RGs
turns into the exhaustive state space from which the RG of given
parallel system is determined. The complexity analysis of the
presented algorithm illuminates significant decrease in the time
complexity cost of RG generation. The proposed technique is
applicable to parallel programs having multiple threads with the
synchronization problem.
Abstract: High level synthesis (HLS) is a process which
generates register-transfer level design for digital systems from
behavioral description. There are many HLS algorithms and
commercial tools. However, most of these algorithms consider a
behavioral description for the system when a single token is
presented to the system. This approach does not exploit extra
hardware efficiently, especially in the design of digital filters where
common operations may exist between successive tokens. In this
paper, we modify the behavioral description to process multiple
tokens in parallel. However, this approach is unlike the full
processing that requires full hardware replication. It exploits the
presence of common operations between successive tokens. The
performance of the proposed approach is better than sequential
processing and approaches that of full parallel processing as the
hardware resources are increased.
Abstract: The problem of lot sizing, sequencing and scheduling
multiple products in flow line production systems has been studied
by several authors. Almost all of the researches in this area assumed
that setup times and costs are sequence –independent even though
sequence dependent setups are common in practice. In this paper we
present a new mixed integer non linear program (MINLP) and a
heuristic method to solve the problem in sequence dependent case.
Furthermore, a genetic algorithm has been developed which applies
this constructive heuristic to generate initial population. These two
proposed solution methods are compared on randomly generated
problems. Computational results show a clear superiority of our
proposed GA for majority of the test problems.
Abstract: Until recently, researchers have developed various
tools and methodologies for effective clinical decision-making.
Among those decisions, chest pain diseases have been one of
important diagnostic issues especially in an emergency department. To
improve the ability of physicians in diagnosis, many researchers have
developed diagnosis intelligence by using machine learning and data
mining. However, most of the conventional methodologies have been
generally based on a single classifier for disease classification and
prediction, which shows moderate performance. This study utilizes an
ensemble strategy to combine multiple different classifiers to help
physicians diagnose chest pain diseases more accurately than ever.
Specifically the ensemble strategy is applied by using the integration
of decision trees, neural networks, and support vector machines. The
ensemble models are applied to real-world emergency data. This study
shows that the performance of the ensemble models is superior to each
of single classifiers.
Abstract: In this paper, a method to detect multiple ellipses is presented. The technique is efficient and robust against incomplete ellipses due to partial occlusion, noise or missing edges and outliers. It is an iterative technique that finds and removes the best ellipse until no reasonable ellipse is found. At each run, the best ellipse is extracted from randomly selected edge patches, its fitness calculated and compared to a fitness threshold. RANSAC algorithm is applied as a sampling process together with the Direct Least Square fitting of ellipses (DLS) as the fitting algorithm. In our experiment, the method performs very well and is robust against noise and spurious edges on both synthetic and real-world image data.
Abstract: The growing outsourcing of logistics services
resulting from the ongoing current in firms of costs
reduction/increased efficiency means that it is becoming more and
more important for the companies doing the outsourcing to carry out
a proper evaluation.
The multiple definitions and measures of logistics service
performance found in research on the topic create a certain degree of
confusion and do not clear the way towards the proper measurement
of their performance. Do a model and a specific set of indicators exist
that can be considered appropriate for measuring the performance of
logistics services outsourcing in industrial environments? Are said
indicators in keeping with the objectives pursued by outsourcing? We
aim to answer these and other research questions in the study we have
initiated in the field within the framework of the international High
Performance Manufacturing (HPM) project of which this paper
forms part.
As the first stage of this research, this paper reviews articles
dealing with the topic published in the last 15 years with the aim of
detecting the models most used to make this measurement and
determining which performance indicators are proposed as part of
said models and which are most used. The first steps are also taken in
determining whether these indicators, financial and operational, cover
the aims that are being pursued when outsourcing logistics services.
The findings show there is a wide variety of both models and
indicators used. This would seem to testify to the need to continue
with our research in order to try to propose a model and a set of
indicators for measuring the performance of logistics services
outsourcing in industrial environments.
Abstract: It has been shown that in most accidents the driver is responsible due to being distracted or misjudging the situation. In order to solve such problems research has been dedicated to developing driver assistance systems that are able to monitor the traffic situation around the vehicle. This paper presents methods for recognizing several circumstances on a road. The methods use both the in-vehicle warning systems and the roadside infrastructure. Preliminary evaluation results for fog and ice-on-road detection are presented. The ice detection results are based on data recorded in a test track dedicated to tyre friction testing. The achieved results anticipate that ice detection could work at a performance of 70% detection with the right setup, which is a good foundation for implementation. However, the full benefit of the presented cooperative system is achieved by fusing the outputs of multiple data sources, which is the key point of discussion behind this publication.
Abstract: Most fingerprint recognition techniques are based on minutiae matching and have been well studied. However, this technology still suffers from problems associated with the handling of poor quality impressions. One problem besetting fingerprint matching is distortion. Distortion changes both geometric position and orientation, and leads to difficulties in establishing a match among multiple impressions acquired from the same finger tip. Marking all the minutiae accurately as well as rejecting false minutiae is another issue still under research. Our work has combined many methods to build a minutia extractor and a minutia matcher. The combination of multiple methods comes from a wide investigation into research papers. Also some novel changes like segmentation using Morphological operations, improved thinning, false minutiae removal methods, minutia marking with special considering the triple branch counting, minutia unification by decomposing a branch into three terminations, and matching in the unified x-y coordinate system after a two-step transformation are used in the work.
Abstract: In this paper, frequency offset (FO) estimation schemes
robust to the non-Gaussian noise environments are proposed for
orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. First,
a maximum-likelihood (ML) estimation scheme in non-Gaussian
noise environments is proposed, and then, the complexity of the
ML estimation scheme is reduced by employing a reduced set of
candidate values. In numerical results, it is demonstrated that the
proposed schemes provide a significant performance improvement
over the conventional estimation scheme in non-Gaussian noise
environments while maintaining the performance similar to the
estimation performance in Gaussian noise environments.
Abstract: This work addresses the problem of optimizing
completely batch water-using network with multiple contaminants
where the flow change caused by mass transfer is taken into
consideration for the first time. A mathematical technique for
optimizing water-using network is proposed based on
source-tank-sink superstructure. The task is to obtain the freshwater
usage, recycle assignments among water-using units, wastewater
discharge and a steady water-using network configuration by
following steps. Firstly, operating sequences of water-using units are
determined by time constraints. Next, superstructure is simplified by
eliminating the reuse and recycle from water-using units with
maximum concentration of key contaminants. Then, the non-linear
programming model is solved by GAMS (General Algebra Model
System) for minimum freshwater usage, maximum water recycle and
minimum wastewater discharge. Finally, numbers of operating periods
are calculated to acquire the steady network configuration. A case
study is solved to illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach.
