Abstract: In the present study, the oleaginous fungus
Mortierella alpina CBS 754.68 was screened for arachidonic
acidproduction using inexpensive agricultural by-products as
substrate. Four oilcakes were analysed to choose the best substrate
among them. Sunflower oilcake was the most effective substrate for
ARA production followed by soybean, colza and olive oilcakes. In
the next step, seven variables including substrate particle size,
moisture content, time, temperature, yeast extract supply, glucose
supply and glutamate supply were surveyed and effective variables
for ARA production were determined using a Plackett-Burman
screening design. Analysis results showed that time (12 days),
substrate particle size (1-1.4 mm) and temperature (20ºC) were the
most effective variables for the highest level of ARA production
respectively.
Abstract: Airbag deployment has been known to be responsible
for huge death, incidental injuries and broken bones due to low crash
severity and wrong deployment decisions. Therefore, the authorities
and industries have been looking for more innovative and intelligent
products to be realized for future enhancements in the vehicle safety
systems (VSSs). Although the VSSs technologies have advanced
considerably, they still face challenges such as how to avoid
unnecessary and untimely airbag deployments that can be hazardous
and fatal. Currently, most of the existing airbag systems deploy
without regard to occupant size and position. As such, this paper will
focus on the occupant and crash sensing performances due to frontal
collisions for the new breed of so called smart airbag systems. It
intends to provide a thorough discussion relating to the occupancy
detection, occupant size classification, occupant off-position
detection to determine safe distance zone for airbag deployment,
crash-severity analysis and airbag decision algorithms via a computer
modeling. The proposed system model consists of three main
modules namely, occupant sensing, crash severity analysis and
decision fusion. The occupant sensing system module utilizes the
weight sensor to determine occupancy, classify the occupant size,
and determine occupant off-position condition to compute safe
distance for airbag deployment. The crash severity analysis module is
used to generate relevant information pertinent to airbag deployment
decision. Outputs from these two modules are fused to the decision
module for correct and efficient airbag deployment action. Computer
modeling work is carried out using Simulink, Stateflow,
SimMechanics and Virtual Reality toolboxes.
Abstract: Manufacturing Industries face a crucial change as products and processes are required to, easily and efficiently, be reconfigurable and reusable. In order to stay competitive and flexible, situations also demand distribution of enterprises globally, which requires implementation of efficient communication strategies. A prototype system called the “Broadcaster" has been developed with an assumption that the control environment description has been engineered using the Component-based system paradigm. This prototype distributes information to a number of globally distributed partners via an adoption of the circular-based data processing mechanism. The work highlighted in this paper includes the implementation of this mechanism in the domain of the manufacturing industry. The proposed solution enables real-time remote propagation of machine information to a number of distributed supply chain client resources such as a HMI, VRML-based 3D views and remote client instances regardless of their distribution nature and/ or their mechanisms. This approach is presented together with a set of evaluation results. Authors- main concentration surrounds the reliability and the performance metric of the adopted approach. Performance evaluation is carried out in terms of the response times taken to process the data in this domain and compared with an alternative data processing implementation such as the linear queue mechanism. Based on the evaluation results obtained, authors justify the benefits achieved from this proposed implementation and highlight any further research work that is to be carried out.
Abstract: The pyrolysis of hazelnut shell, polyethylene oxide and their blends were carried out catalytically at 500 and 650 ºC. Potassium dichromate was chosen according to its oxidative characteristics and decomposition temperature (500 ºC) where decomposition products are CrO3 and K2CrO4. As a main effect, a remarkable increase in gasification was observed using this catalyst for pure components and blends especially at 500 ºC rather than 650 ºC contrary to the main observation in the pyrolysis process. The increase in gas product quantity was compensated mainly with decrease in solid product and additionally in some cases liquid products.
Abstract: Wheat germ has a balanced amino acid composition of the protein, which is well digested by enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract of humans, a high content of vitamins, minerals and unsaturated acids. Introduction components grain food products will enrich their biologically important substances, giving these products a number of valuable properties and reducing their caloric.
A complex natural system of substances in foods will help replenish the body's need of essential nutrients, increasing its resistance to the harmful effects of the environment, prolong life. In this regard, there was a need for the development of production technology of protein complexes from wheat germ and then applying them in food, particularly in the dairy industry. Experimental studies were conducted to determine the number of herbal supplements on the sensory characteristics of the product. Studies have been conducted to determine the optimal process parameters of water activity and moisture content of the investigational product.
Abstract: Pleurotus ostreatus is a common edible mushroom with a number of properties that can help to solve the nutritional and economical problems of people in Chiapas, Mexico. The objective of this project was to produce the mushroom under a sustainable management in which only regional products were allowed as a way to promote the cultivation and consumption of Pleurotus ostreatus; 5 different substrates were tested as well as 2 sanitation methods. The obtained results showed that the highest yields were obtained using corn husk and a thermal sanitation method. Pests and diseases were not a problem during the project but they appeared more in the substrates sanitized with calcium hydroxide.
Abstract: Nitrogen loss from irrigated cropland, particularly
sandy soils, significantly contributes to nitrate (NO3
-) levels in
surface and groundwaters. Thus, it is of great interest to use
inexpensive natural products that can increase the fertilizer efficiency
and decrease nitrate leaching. In this study, the ability of natural
Iranian zeolite clinoptilolite (Cp) and surfactant modified zeolite
clinoptilolite (SMZ) to remove NH4
+ and NO3
-, respectively, from
aqueous solutions was determined. The feasibility of using Cp and
SMZ as soil amendment to reduce nitrate leaching from soil using
lysimeters was also investigated. Zeolite showed 10.23% to 88.42%
NH4
+ removal efficiency over a wide range of initial NH4
+
concentrations. Nitrate removal efficiency by SMZ was 32.26% to
82.26%. Field study results showed that Cp and SMZ significantly (p
< 0.05) reduced leachate NO3-N concentration compared to control.
There was no significant difference between maximum and mean
leachate NO3-N concentration of SMZ lysimeters and those of Cp
lysimeters.
Abstract: In the present research, the titanium-catalyzed
ethylene dimerization and more specifically, the concomitant byproducts
and polymer formation have been studied in the presence of 2,5-dimethoxytetrahydrofuran as an electron donor compound in the
combination with triethylaluminium (TEA) as activator. Then, we
added ethylene chlorobromide as a new efficient promoter to the
relevant catalyst system. Finally, the behavior of novel homogeneous
[Titanium tetrabutoxide (Ti(OC4H9)4)/2,5-dimethoxytetrahydrofuran/
TEA/ethylene chlorobromide] was investigated in the various
operating conditions for the optimum production of 1-butene. In the
optimum conditions, a very high ethylene conversion (almost 90.77
%), a relative high selectivity to 1-butene (79.00 %), yield of reaction equal to 71.70 % and a significant productivity (turnover frequency
equal to 1370 h-1) were achieved.
Abstract: The present research focus on the processing of mullite-based ceramics from oil refinery industrial wastes and byproducts of agricultural industry and on the investigating of silane modified surface of ceramics. Two waste products were used as initial material – waste aluminum oxide and waste rice husk. The burning - out additives used were waste rise husk. It is known that the oxide ceramics surface is hydrophilic due to the presence of – OH groups in it. The nature of ceramic surface regarding permeation of water and hydrocarbons can be changed by further treatment with silanes. The samples were studied mainly by X-ray analysis, FT-IR absorbance measurements and microscopic analysis. The X-ray analyses showed the phase composition depends on the firing temperature and on the purity of the starting alumina. Two kind of silanes were used for the transformation of surface from hydrophilic to hydrophobic – trimethoxymethylsilane (TMMS) and trimethylclorsilane (TMCS).
Abstract: Gaharu that produced by Aquilaria spp. is classified as
one of the most valuable forest products traded internationally as it is
very resinous, fragrant and highly valuable heartwood. Gaharu has
been widely used in aromatheraphy, medicine, perfume and religious
practices. This work aimed to determine the factors affecting solid
liquid extraction of gaharu oil using hexane as solvent under
experimental condition. The kinetics of extraction was assumed and
verified based on a second-order mechanism. The effect of three
main factors, which were temperature, reaction time and solvent to
solid ratio were investigated to achieve maximum oil yield. The
optimum condition were found at temperature 65°C, 9 hours reaction
time and solvent to solid ratio of 12:1 with 14.5% oil yield. The
kinetics experimental data agrees and well fitted with the second
order extraction model. The initial extraction rate (h) was 0.0115
gmL-1min-1; the extraction capacity (Cs) was 1.282gmL-1; the second
order extraction constant (k) was 0.007 mLg-1min-1 and coefficient of
determination, R2 was 0.945.
Abstract: Microbial contamination, most of which are fecal born in drinking water and food industry is a serious threat to humans. Escherichia coli is one of the most common and prevalent among them. We have developed a sensor for rapid and an early detection of contaminants, taking E.coli as a threat indicator organism. The sensor is based on co-polymerizations of aniline and formaldehyde in form of thin film over glass surface using the vacuum deposition technique. The particular doping combination of thin film with Fe-Al and Fe-Cu in different concentrations changes its non conducting properties to p- type semi conductor. This property is exploited to detect the different contaminants, believed to have the different surface charge. It was found through experiments that different microbes at same OD (0.600 at 600 nm) have different conductivity in solution. Also the doping concentration is found to be specific for attracting microbes on the basis of surface charge. This is a simple, cost effective and quick detection method which not only decreases the measurement time but also gives early warnings for highly contaminated samples.
Abstract: On existing online shopping on the web, SSL and
password are usually used to achieve the secure trades. SSL shields
communication from the third party who is not related with the trade,
and indicates that the trader's web site is authenticated by one of the
certification authority. Password certifies a customer as the same
person who has visited the trader's web site before, and protects the
customer's privacy such as what the customer has bought on the site.
However, there is no forensics for the trades in those cased above.
With existing methods, no one can prove what is ordered by
customers, how many products are ordered and even whether
customers have ordered or not. The reason is that the third party has to
guess what were traded with logs that are held by traders and by
customers. The logs can easily be created, deleted and forged since
they are electronically stored. To enhance security with digital
forensics for electronic commerce on the web, I indicate a secure
method with cellular phones.
Abstract: Environmental studies have expanded dramatically all
over the world in the past few years. Nowadays businesses interact
with society and the environment in ways that put their mark on both
sides. Efforts improving human standard living, through the control
of nature and the development of new products, have also resulted in
contamination of the environment. Consequently companies play an
important role in environmental sustainability of a region or country.
Therefore we can say that a company's sustainable development is
strictly dependent on the environment. This article presents a fuzzy
model to evaluate a company's environmental impact. Article
illustrates an example of the automotive industry in order to prove the
usefulness of using such a model.
Abstract: The usefulness of weaning foods to meet the nutrient
needs of children is well recognized, and most of them are precooked
roller dried mixtures of cereal and/or legume flours which posses a
high viscosity and bulk when reconstituted. The objective of this study
was to formulate composite weaning foods using cereals, malted
legumes and vegetable powders and analyze them for nutrients,
functional properties and sensory attributes. Selected legumes (green
gram and lentil) were germinated, dried and dehulled. Roasted wheat,
rice, carrot powder and skim milk powder also were used. All the
ingredients were mixed in different proportions to get four
formulations, made into 30% slurry and dried in roller drier. The
products were analyzed for proximate principles, mineral content,
functional and sensory qualities. The results of analysis showed
following range of constituents per 100g of formulations on dry
weight basis, protein, 18.1-18.9 g ; fat, 0.78-1.36 g ; iron, 5.09-6.53
mg; calcium, 265-310 mg. The lowest water absorption capacity was
in case of wheat green gram based and the highest was in rice lentil
based sample. Overall sensory qualities of all foods were graded as
“good" and “very good" with no significant differences. The results
confirm that formulated weaning foods were nutritionally superior,
functionally appropriate and organoleptically acceptable.
Abstract: This research is to study the performance of heat
pump dryer for drying of kaffir lime leaves under different media and
to compare the color values and essential oil content of final products
after drying. In the experiments, kaffir lime leaves were dried in the
closed-loop system at drying temperatures of 40, 50 and 60 oC. The
drying media used in this study were hot air, CO2 and N2 gases. The
velocity of drying media in the drying chamber was 0.4 m/s with
bypass ratio of 30%. The initial moisture content of kaffir lime leaves
was approximately 180-190 % d.b. It was dried until down to a final
moisture content of 10% d.b. From the experiments, the results
showed that drying rate, the coefficient of performance (COP) and
specific energy consumption (SEC) depended on drying temperature.
While drying media did not affect on drying rate. The time for kaffir
lime leaves drying at 40, 50 and 60 oC was 10, 5 and 3 hours,
respectively. The performance of the heat pump system decreased
with drying temperature in the range of 2.20-3.51. In the aspect of
final product color, the greenness and overall color had a great
change under drying temperature at 60 oC rather than drying at 40
and 50 oC. When compared among drying media, the greenness and
overall color of product dried with hot air at 60 oC had a great change
rather than dried with CO2 and N2.
Abstract: Nanowire arrays of copper with uniform diameters have
been synthesized by potentiostatic electrochemical metal deposition
(EMD) of copper sulphate and potassium chloride solution within
the nano-channels of porous Indium-Tin Oxide (ITO), also known as
Tin doped Indium Oxide templates. The nanowires developed were
fairly continuous with diameters ranging from 110-140 nm along
the entire length. Single as well as poly-crystalline copper wires
have been prepared by application of appropriate potential during the
EMD process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution
transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), small angle electron
diffraction (SAED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used
to characterize the synthesized nano wires at room temperature. The
electrochemical response of synthesized products was evaluated by
cyclic voltammetry while surface energy analysis was carried out
using a Goniometer.
Abstract: This paper reports on a survey of state-of-the-art
application scenarios for smart office environments. Based on an
analysis of ongoing research activities and industry projects,
functionalities and services of future office systems are extracted. In
a second step, these results are used to identify the key characteristics
of emerging products.
Abstract: Currently is characterized production engineering
together with the integration of industrial automation and robotics
such very quick view of to manufacture the products. The production
range is continuously changing, expanding and producers have to be
flexible in this regard. It means that need to offer production
possibilities, which can respond to the quick change. Engineering
product development is focused on supporting CAD software, such
systems are mainly used for product design. That manufacturers are
competitive, it should be kept procured machines made available
capable of responding to output flexibility. In response to that
problem is the development of flexible manufacturing systems,
consisting of various automated systems. The integration of flexible
manufacturing systems and subunits together with product design and
of engineering is a possible solution for this issue. Integration is
possible through the implementation of CIM systems. Such a solution
and finding a hyphen between CAD and procurement system ICIM
3000 from Festo Co. is engaged in the research project and this
contribution. This can be designed the products in CAD systems and
watch the manufacturing process from order to shipping by the
development of methods and processes of integration, This can be
modeled in CAD systems products and watch the manufacturing

integration, which will improve support for product design
parameters by monitoring of the production process, by creating of
programs for production using the CAD and therefore accelerates the

Abstract: Yogurt is a coagulated milk product obtained from
the lactic acid fermentation by the action of Lactobacillus
bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. The additions of fruits
into milk may enhance the taste and the therapeutical values of milk
products. However fruits also may change the fermentation
behaviour. In this present study, the changes in physicochemical, the
peptide concentration, total phenolics content and the antioxidant
potential of yogurt upon the addition of Hylocereus polyrhizus and
Hylocereus undatus (white and red dragon fruit) were investigated.
Fruits enriched yogurt (10%, 20%, 30% w/w) were prepared and the
pH, TTA, syneresis measurement, peptide concentration, total
phenolics content and DPPH antioxidant inhibition percentage were
determined. Milk fermentation rate was enhanced in red dragon fruit
yogurt for all doses (-0.3606 - -0.4126 pH/h) while only white
dragon fruit yogurt with 20% and 30% (w/w) composition showed
increment in fermentation rate (-0.3471 - -0.3609 pH/h) compared to
plain yogurt (-0.3369pH/h). All dragon fruit enriched yogurts
generally showed lower pH readings (pH 3.95 - 4.03) compared to
plain yogurt (pH 4.05). Both fruit yogurts showed a higher lactic
acid percentage (1.14-1.23%) compared to plain yogurt (1.08%).
Significantly higher syneresis percentage (57.19 - 70.32%)
compared to plain yogurt (52.93%) were seen in all fruit enriched
yogurts. The antioxidant activity of plain yogurt (19.16%) was
enhanced by the presence of white and red dragon fruit (24.97-
45.74%). All fruit enriched yogurt showed an increment in total
phenolic content (36.44 - 64.43mg/ml) compared to plain yogurt
(20.25mg/ml). However, the addition of white and red dragon fruit
did not enhance the proteolysis of milk during fermentation.
Therefore, it could be concluded that the addition of white and red
dragon fruit into yogurt enhanced the milk fermentation rate, lactic
acid content, syneresis percentage, antioxidant activity, and total
phenolics content in yogurt.
Abstract: The current trend of increasing quality and demands
of the final product is affected by time analysis of the entire
manufacturing process. The primary requirement of manufacturing is
to produce as many products as soon as possible, at the lowest
possible cost, but of course with the highest quality. Such
requirements may be satisfied only if all the elements entering and
affecting the production cycle are in a fully functional condition.
These elements consist of sensory equipment and intelligent control
elements that are essential for building intelligent manufacturing
systems. The intelligent manufacturing paradigm includes a new
approach to production system structure design. Intelligent behaviors
are based on the monitoring of important parameters of system and
its environment. The flexible reaction to changes. The realization and
utilization of this design paradigm as an "intelligent manufacturing
system" enables the flexible system reaction to production
requirement as soon as environmental changes too. Results of these
flexible reactions are a smaller layout space, be decreasing of
production and investment costs and be increasing of productivity.
Intelligent manufacturing system itself should be a system that can
flexibly respond to changes in entering and exiting the process in
interaction with the surroundings.
