Abstract: Raisin Concentrate (RC) are the most important
products obtained in the raisin processing industries. These RC
products are now used to make the syrups, drinks and confectionery
productions and introduced as natural substitute for sugar in food
applications. Iran is a one of the biggest raisin exporter in the world
but unfortunately despite a good raw material, no serious effort to
extract the RC has been taken in Iran. Therefore, in this paper, we
determined and analyzed affected parameters on extracting RC
process and then optimizing these parameters for design the
extracting RC process in two types of raisin (round and long)
produced in Khorasan region. Two levels of solvent (1:1 and 2:1),
three levels of extraction temperature (60°C, 70°C and 80°C), and
three levels of concentration temperature (50°C, 60°C and 70°C)
were the treatments. Finally physicochemical characteristics of the
obtained concentrate such as color, viscosity, percentage of reduction
sugar, acidity and the microbial tests (mould and yeast) were
counted. The analysis was performed on the basis of factorial in the
form of completely randomized design (CRD) and Duncan's multiple
range test (DMRT) was used for the comparison of the means.
Statistical analysis of results showed that optimal conditions for
production of concentrate is round raisins when the solvent ratio was
2:1 with extraction temperature of 60°C and then concentration
temperature of 50°C. Round raisin is cheaper than the long one, and
it is more economical to concentrate production. Furthermore, round
raisin has more aromas and the less color degree with increasing the
temperature of concentration and extraction. Finally, according to
mentioned factors the concentrate of round raisin is recommended.
Abstract: Dynamic models of power converters are normally
time-varying because of their switching actions. Several approaches
are applied to analyze the power converters to achieve the timeinvariant
models suitable for system analysis and design via the
classical control theory. The paper presents how to derive dynamic
models of the power system consisting of a three-phase controlled
rectifier feeding an uncontrolled buck converter by using the
combination between the well known techniques called the DQ and
the generalized state-space averaging methods. The intensive timedomain
simulations of the exact topology model are used to support
the accuracies of the reported model. The results show that the
proposed model can provide good accuracies in both transient and
steady-state responses.
Abstract: This paper provides a new approach to solve the motion planning problems of flying robots in uncertain 3D dynamic environments. The robots controlled by this method can adaptively choose the fast way to avoid collision without information about the shapes and trajectories of obstacles. Based on sphere coordinates the new method accomplishes collision avoidance of flying robots without any other auxiliary positioning systems. The Self-protection System gives robots self-protection abilities to work in uncertain 3D dynamic environments. Simulations illustrate the validity of the proposed method.
Abstract: A mathematical model for the hydrodynamics of a
surface water treatment pilot plant was developed and validated by
the determination of the residence time distribution (RTD) for the
main equipments of the unit. The well known models of ideal/real
mixing, ideal displacement (plug flow) and (one-dimensional axial)
dispersion model were combined in order to identify the structure
that gives the best fitting of the experimental data for each equipment
of the pilot plant. RTD experimental results have shown that pilot
plant hydrodynamics can be quite well approximated by a
combination of simple mathematical models, structure which is
suitable for engineering applications. Validated hydrodynamic
models will be further used in the evaluation and selection of the
most suitable coagulation-flocculation reagents, optimum operating
conditions (injection point, reaction times, etc.), in order to improve
the quality of the drinking water.
Abstract: This is a genetic comparison study of Arabian Oryx
(Oryx leucoryx) population at two different locations (A &B) based
on nuclear microsatellite DNA markers. Arabian Oryx is listed as
vulnerable and endanger by the World Conservation Union (IUCN).
Thirty microsatellite markers from bovine family were applied to
investigate the genetic diversity of the Arabian Oryx and to set up a
molecular inventory. Among 30 microsatellite markers used, 13
markers were moderately polymorphic. Arabian Oryx at location A
has shown better gene diversity over location B. However, mean
number of alleles were less than location B. Data of within
population inbreeding coefficient indicates inbreeding at both
locations (A&B). Based on the analysis of polymorphic microsatellite
markers, the study revealed that Arabian Oryx need a genetically
designed breeding program.
Abstract: By taking advantage of both k-NN which is highly
accurate and K-means cluster which is able to reduce the time of classification, we can introduce Cluster-k-Nearest Neighbor as "variable k"-NN dealing with the centroid or mean point of all subclasses generated by clustering algorithm. In general the algorithm of K-means cluster is not stable, in term of accuracy, for that reason we develop another algorithm for clustering our space which gives a higher accuracy than K-means cluster, less
subclass number, stability and bounded time of classification with respect to the variable data size. We find between 96% and 99.7 % of accuracy in the lassification of 6 different types of Time series by using K-means cluster algorithm and we find 99.7% by using the new clustering algorithm.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose an advanced ILQ control for the buck-converter via two-degrees of freedom servo-system. Our presented strategy is based on Inverse Linear Quadratic (ILQ) servo-system controller without solving Riccati-s equation directly. The optimal controller of the current and voltage control system is designed. The stability and robust control are analyzed. A conscious and persistent effort has been made to improve ILQ control via two-degrees of freedom guarantees the optimal gains on the basis of polynomial pole assignment, which our results of the proposed strategy shows that the advanced ILQ control can be controlled independently the step response and the disturbance response by appending a feed-forward compensator.
Abstract: In the context of channel coding, the Generalized Belief Propagation (GBP) is an iterative algorithm used to recover the transmission bits sent through a noisy channel. To ensure a reliable transmission, we apply a map on the bits, that is called a code. This code induces artificial correlations between the bits to send, and it can be modeled by a graph whose nodes are the bits and the edges are the correlations. This graph, called Tanner graph, is used for most of the decoding algorithms like Belief Propagation or Gallager-B. The GBP is based on a non unic transformation of the Tanner graph into a so called region-graph. A clear advantage of the GBP over the other algorithms is the freedom in the construction of this graph. In this article, we explain a particular construction for specific graph topologies that involves relevant performance of the GBP. Moreover, we investigate the behavior of the GBP considered as a dynamic system in order to understand the way it evolves in terms of the time and in terms of the noise power of the channel. To this end we make use of classical measures and we introduce a new measure called the hyperspheres method that enables to know the size of the attractors.
Abstract: For many chemical and biological processes, the understanding of the mixing phenomenon and flow behavior in a stirred tank is of major importance. A three-dimensional numerical study was performed using the software Fluent, to study the flow field in a stirred tank with a Rushton turbine. In this work, we first studied the flow generated in the tank with a Rushton turbine. Then, we studied the effect of the variation of turbine’s submergence on the thermodynamic quantities defining the flow field. For that, four submergences were considered, while maintaining the same rotational speed (N =250rpm). This work intends to optimize the aeration performances of a Rushton turbine in a stirred tank.
Abstract: Truss spars are used for oil exploitation in deep and ultra-deep water if storage crude oil is not needed. The linear hydrodynamic analysis of truss spar in random sea wave load is necessary for determining the behaviour of truss spar. This understanding is not only important for design of the mooring lines, but also for optimising the truss spar design. In this paper linear hydrodynamic analysis of truss spar is carried out in frequency domain. The hydrodynamic forces are calculated using the modified Morison equation and diffraction theory. Added mass and drag coefficients of truss section computed by transmission matrix and normal acceleration and velocity component acting on each element and for hull section computed by strip theory. The stiffness properties of the truss spar can be separated into two components; hydrostatic stiffness and mooring line stiffness. Then, platform response amplitudes obtained by solved the equation of motion. This equation is non-linear due to viscous damping term therefore linearised by iteration method [1]. Finally computed RAOs and significant response amplitude and results are compared with experimental data.
Abstract: Three dimensional simulations in tube in tube heat
exchangers are investigated numerically in this study. In these
simulations forced convective heat transfer and laminar flow of
single-phase water are considered. In order to measure heat transfer
parameters in these heat exchangers, FLUENT CFD Solver is used in
this numerical method. For the purpose of creating geometry and
exert boundary and initial conditions in the present model, finite
volume method in Computational Fluid Dynamics is used in this
study. In the present study, at each Z-location, variation of local
temperatures, heat flux and Nusselt number at the whole tube is
investigated in detail. Thereafter, averaged computational Nusselt
number in this model is calculated. In addition, conceivable pressure
drops have been obtained at each Z-location in this model. Then,
pressure drop values in the present model are explored. Finally, all
the numerical results for this kind of heat exchanger will be discussed
precisely.
Abstract: The urban centers within northeastern Brazil are
mainly influenced by the intense rainfalls, which can occur after long
periods of drought, when flood events can be observed during such
events. Thus, this paper aims to study the rainfall frequencies in such
region through the wavelet transform. An application of wavelet
analysis is done with long time series of the total monthly rainfall
amount at the capital cities of northeastern Brazil. The main
frequency components in the time series are studied by the global
wavelet spectrum and the modulation in separated periodicity bands
were done in order to extract additional information, e.g., the 8 and
16 months band was examined by an average of all scales, giving a
measure of the average annual variance versus time, where the
periods with low or high variance could be identified. The important
increases were identified in the average variance for some periods,
e.g. 1947 to 1952 at Teresina city, which can be considered as high
wet periods. Although, the precipitation in those sites showed similar
global wavelet spectra, the wavelet spectra revealed particular
features. This study can be considered an important tool for time
series analysis, which can help the studies concerning flood control,
mainly when they are applied together with rainfall-runoff
simulations.
Abstract: An important problem in speech research is the automatic extraction of information about the shape and dimensions of the vocal tract during real-time speech production. We have previously developed Southampton dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (SDMRI) as an approach to the solution of this problem.However, the SDMRI images are very noisy so that shape extraction is a major challenge. In this paper, we address the problem of tongue shape extraction, which poses difficulties because this is a highly deforming non-parametric shape. We show that combining active shape models with the dynamic Hough transform allows the tongue shape to be reliably tracked in the image sequence.
Abstract: RoboCup Rescue simulation as a large-scale Multi
agent system (MAS) is one of the challenging environments for
keeping coordination between agents to achieve the objectives
despite sensing and communication limitations. The dynamicity of
the environment and intensive dependency between actions of
different kinds of agents make the problem more complex. This point
encouraged us to use learning-based methods to adapt our decision
making to different situations. Our approach is utilizing
reinforcement leaning. Using learning in rescue simulation is one of
the current ways which has been the subject of several researches in
recent years. In this paper we present an innovative learning method
implemented for Police Force (PF) Agent. This method can cope
with the main difficulties that exist in other learning approaches.
Different methods used in the literature have been examined. Their
drawbacks and possible improvements have led us to the method
proposed in this paper which is fast and accurate. The Brain
Emotional Learning Based Intelligent Controller (BELBIC) is our
solution for learning in this environment. BELBIC is a
physiologically motivated approach based on a computational model
of amygdale and limbic system. The paper presents the results
obtained by the proposed approach, showing the power of BELBIC
as a decision making tool in complex and dynamic situation.
Abstract: LabVIEW and SIMULINK are two most widely used
graphical programming environments for designing digital signal
processing and control systems. Unlike conventional text-based
programming languages such as C, Cµ and MATLAB, graphical
programming involves block-based code developments, allowing a
more efficient mechanism to build and analyze control systems. In
this paper a LabVIEW environment has been employed as a
graphical user interface for monitoring the operation of a controlled
distillation column, by visualizing both the closed loop performance
and the user selected control conditions, while the column dynamics
has been modeled under the SIMULINK environment. This tool has
been applied to the PID based decoupled control of a binary
distillation column. By means of such integrated environments the
control designer is able to monitor and control the plant behavior and
optimize the response when both, the quality improvement of
distillation products and the operation efficiency tasks, are
considered.
Abstract: Traditionally, project scheduling and material planning have been treated independently. In this research, a mixed integer programming model is presented to integrate project scheduling and materials ordering problems. The goal is to minimize the total material holding and ordering costs. In addition, an efficient metaheuristic algorithm is proposed to solve the model. The proposed algorithm is computationally tested, the results are analyzed, and conclusions are given.
Abstract: This paper presents the application of discrete-time
variable structure control with sliding mode based on the 'reaching
law' method for robust control of a 'simple inverted pendulum on
moving cart' - a standard nonlinear benchmark system. The
controllers designed using the above techniques are completely
insensitive to parametric uncertainty and external disturbance. The
controller design is carried out using pole placement technique to find
state feedback gain matrix , which decides the dynamic behavior
of the system during sliding mode. This is followed by feedback gain
realization using the control law which is synthesized from 'Gao-s
reaching law'. The model of a single inverted pendulum and the
discrete variable structure control controller are developed, simulated
in MATLAB-SIMULINK and results are presented. The response of
this simulation is compared with that of the discrete linear quadratic
regulator (DLQR) and the advantages of sliding mode controller over
DLQR are also presented
Abstract: The experiments were performed in a batch set up
under different concentrations of Cu (II) (0.2 g.l-1 to 0.9 g.l-1), pH (4-
6), temperatures (20oC – 40oC) with varying teak leaves powder (as
biosorbent) dosage of 0.3 g.l-1 to 0.5 g.l-1. The kinetics of interactions
were tested with pseudo first order Lagergran equation and the value
for k1 was found to be 6.909 x 10-3 min-1. The biosorption data gave
a good fit with Langmuir and Fruendlich isotherms and the Langmuir
monolayer capacity (qm) was found to be 166.78 mg. g-1. Similarly
the Freundlich adsorption capacity (Kf) was estimated as 2.49 l g-1.
The mean values of the thermodynamic parameters ΔH, ΔS, and ΔG
were -62.42 KJ. mol-1, -0.219 KJ.mol-1 K-1 and -1.747 KJ.mol-1 at
293 K from a solution containing 0.4 g l-1 of Cu(II) showing the
biosorption to be thermodynamically favourable. These results show
good potentiality of using teak leaves as a biosorbent for the removal
of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions.

Abstract: During the last decade ultrafine grained (UFG) and nano-structured (NS) materials have experienced a rapid development. In this research work finite element analysis has been carried out to investigate the plastic strain distribution in equal channel angular process (ECAP). The magnitudes of Standard deviation (S. D.) and inhomogeneity index (Ci) were compared for different ECAP passes. Verification of a three-dimensional finite element model was performed with experimental tests. Finally the mechanical property including impact energy of ultrafine grained pure commercially pure Aluminum produced by severe plastic deformation method has been examined. For this aim, equal channel angular pressing die with the channel angle, outer corner angle and channel diameter of 90°, 20° and 20mm had been designed and manufactured. Commercial pure Aluminum billets were ECAPed up to four passes by route BC at the ambient temperature. The results indicated that there is a great improvement at the hardness measurement, yield strength and ultimate tensile strength after ECAP process. It is found that the magnitudes of HV reach 67HV from 21HV after the final stage of process. Also, about 330% and 285% enhancement at the YS and UTS values have been obtained after the fourth pass as compared to the as-received conditions, respectively. On the other hand, the elongation to failure and impact energy have been reduced by 23% and 50% after imposing four passes of ECAP process, respectively.
