Abstract: Flash floods are considered natural disasters that can
cause casualties and demolishing of infra structures. The problem is
that flash floods, particularly in arid and semi arid zones, take place
in very short time. So, it is important to forecast flash floods earlier to
its events with a lead time up to 48 hours to give early warning alert
to avoid or minimize disasters. The flash flood took place over Wadi
Watier - Sinai Peninsula, in October 24th, 2008, has been simulated,
investigated and analyzed using the state of the art regional weather
model. The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model, which is a
reliable short term forecasting tool for precipitation events, has been
utilized over the study area. The model results have been calibrated
with the real data, for the same date and time, of the rainfall
measurements recorded at Sorah gauging station. The WRF model
forecasted total rainfall of 11.6 mm while the real measured one was
10.8 mm. The calibration shows significant consistency between
WRF model and real measurements results.
Abstract: A dissimilarity measure between the empiric
characteristic functions of the subsamples associated to the different
classes in a multivariate data set is proposed. This measure can be
efficiently computed, and it depends on all the cases of each class. It
may be used to find groups of similar classes, which could be joined
for further analysis, or it could be employed to perform an
agglomerative hierarchical cluster analysis of the set of classes. The
final tree can serve to build a family of binary classification models,
offering an alternative approach to the multi-class SVM problem. We
have tested this dendrogram based SVM approach with the oneagainst-
one SVM approach over four publicly available data sets,
three of them being microarray data. Both performances have been
found equivalent, but the first solution requires a smaller number of
binary SVM models.
Abstract: The public sector holds large amounts of data of
various areas such as social affairs, economy, or tourism. Various
initiatives such as Open Government Data or the EU Directive on
public sector information aim to make these data available for public
and private service providers. Requirements for the provision of
public sector data are defined by legal and organizational
frameworks. Surprisingly, the defined requirements hardly cover
security aspects such as integrity or authenticity.
In this paper we discuss the importance of these missing
requirements and present a concept to assure the integrity and
authenticity of provided data based on electronic signatures. We
show that our concept is perfectly suitable for the provisioning of
unaltered data. We also show that our concept can also be extended
to data that needs to be anonymized before provisioning by
incorporating redactable signatures. Our proposed concept enhances
trust and reliability of provided public sector data.
Abstract: In this paper sensitivity analysis is performed for
reliability evaluation of power systems. When examining the
reliability of a system, it is useful to recognize how results
change as component parameters are varied. This knowledge
helps engineers to understand the impact of poor data, and
gives insight on how reliability can be improved. For these
reasons, a sensitivity analysis can be performed. Finally, a real
network was used for testing the presented method.
Abstract: The paper proposes a methodology to process the signals coming from the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in order to identify the pathology and evaluate the therapy to treat the patients affected by demency diseases. In particular, a fuzzy model is developed to identify the demency of the patients affected by Subcortical Ischemic Vascular Dementia and to measure the positive effect, if any, of a repetitive TMS on their motor performances. A tool is also presented to support the mentioned analysis.
Abstract: Microstrip lines, widely used for good reason, are
broadband in frequency and provide circuits that are compact and
light in weight. They are generally economical to produce since they
are readily adaptable to hybrid and monolithic integrated circuit (IC)
fabrication technologies at RF and microwave frequencies. Although,
the existing EM simulation models used for the synthesis and
analysis of microstrip lines are reasonably accurate, they are
computationally intensive and time consuming. Neural networks
recently gained attention as fast and flexible vehicles to microwave
modeling, simulation and optimization. After learning and
abstracting from microwave data, through a process called training,
neural network models are used during microwave design to provide
instant answers to the task learned. This paper presents simple and
accurate ANN models for the synthesis and analysis of Microstrip
lines to more accurately compute the characteristic parameters and
the physical dimensions respectively for the required design
specifications.
Abstract: Avionic software architecture has transit from a
federated avionics architecture to an integrated modular avionics
(IMA) .ARINC 653 (Avionics Application Standard Software Interface) is a software specification for space and time partitioning in
Safety-critical avionics Real-time operating systems. Methods to transform the abstract avionics application logic function to the
executable model have been brought up, however with less
consideration about the code generating input and output model specific for ARINC 653 platform and inner-task synchronous dynamic
interaction order sequence. In this paper, we proposed an
AADL-based model-driven design methodology to fulfill the purpose
to automatically generating Cµ executable model on ARINC 653 platform from the ARINC653 architecture which defined as AADL653 in order to facilitate the development of the avionics software constructed on ARINC653 OS. This paper presents the
mapping rules between the AADL653 elements and the elements in
Cµ language, and define the code generating rules , designs an automatic C µ code generator .Then, we use a case to illustrate our
approach. Finally, we give the related work and future research directions.

Abstract: Experiments were carried out at the Latvia State
Institute of Fruit-Growing in 2011. Fresh-cut minimally processed
apple and pear mixed salad were packed by passive modified
atmosphere (MAP) in PP containers, which were hermetically sealed
by breathable conventional BOPP PropafreshTM P2GAF, and Amcor
Agrifresh films. Biodegradable NatureFlexTM NVS INNOVIA Films
and VC999 BioPack PLA films coated with a barrier of pure silicon
oxide (SiOx) were used to compare the fresh-cut produce quality
with this packed in conventional packaging films. Samples were cold
stored at temperature +4.0±0.5 °C up to 10 days. The quality of salad
was evaluated by physicochemical properties – weight losses,
moisture, firmness, the effect of packaging modes on the colour,
dynamics in headspace atmosphere concentration (CO2 and O2),
titratable acidity values, as well as by microbiological contamination
(yeasts, moulds and total bacteria count) of salads, analyzing before
packaging and after 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 storage days.
Abstract: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition
which affects 2-3% of population around the world. Psoriasis Area
and Severity Index (PASI) is a gold standard to assess psoriasis
severity as well as the treatment efficacy. Although a gold standard,
PASI is rarely used because it is tedious and complex. In practice,
PASI score is determined subjectively by dermatologists, therefore
inter and intra variations of assessment are possible to happen even
among expert dermatologists. This research develops an algorithm to
assess psoriasis lesion for PASI scoring objectively. Focus of this
research is thickness assessment as one of PASI four parameters
beside area, erythema and scaliness. Psoriasis lesion thickness is
measured by averaging the total elevation from lesion base to lesion
surface. Thickness values of 122 3D images taken from 39 patients
are grouped into 4 PASI thickness score using K-means clustering.
Validation on lesion base construction is performed using twelve
body curvature models and show good result with coefficient of
determinant (R2) is equal to 1.
Abstract: In this paper the supersonic ejectors are
experimentally and analytically studied. Ejector is a device that
uses the energy of a fluid to move another fluid. This device works
like a vacuum pump without usage of piston, rotor or any other
moving component. An ejector contains an active nozzle, a passive
nozzle, a mixing chamber and a diffuser. Since the fluid viscosity
is large, and the flow is turbulent and three dimensional in the
mixing chamber, the numerical methods consume long time and
high cost to analyze the flow in ejectors. Therefore this paper
presents a simple analytical method that is based on the precise
governing equations in fluid mechanics. According to achieved
analytical relations, a computer code has been prepared to analyze
the flow in different components of the ejector. An experiment has
been performed in supersonic regime 1.5
Abstract: This paper presents a implementation of an object tracking system in a video sequence. This object tracking is an important task in many vision applications. The main steps in video analysis are two: detection of interesting moving objects and tracking of such objects from frame to frame. In a similar vein, most tracking algorithms use pre-specified methods for preprocessing. In our work, we have implemented several object tracking algorithms (Meanshift, Camshift, Kalman filter) with different preprocessing methods. Then, we have evaluated the performance of these algorithms for different video sequences. The obtained results have shown good performances according to the degree of applicability and evaluation criteria.
Abstract: In this paper, application of artificial neural networks
in typical disease diagnosis has been investigated. The real procedure
of medical diagnosis which usually is employed by physicians was

after selecting some symptoms of eight different diseases, a data set
contains the information of a few hundreds cases was configured and
applied to a MLP neural network. The results of the experiments and
also the advantages of using a fuzzy approach were discussed as
well. Outcomes suggest the role of effective symptoms selection and
the advantages of data fuzzificaton on a neural networks-based
automatic medical diagnosis system.
Abstract: To study the effect of suitable methods for
propagation of True Potato Seed (TPS) progenies, transplant and
selection of the best progenies, a factorial experiment base on a
randomized complete block design was carried out in the research
field of Sahneh region, Kermanshah, Iran during 2009-2010. Five
selective progenies from CIP (International Potato Center) including
CIP.994013, CIP.994002, CIP.994014, CIP.888006, and
CIP.994001 and two transplant preparation methods (Paper pot
preparation for mechanical cultivation and preparation in transplant
trays for manual cultivation) were studied in three replications.
Results showed that different progenies had no significant effect on
plant height (cm) and tuber yield (t ha-1), whereas had a significant
effect on number of tubers per unit area (m2). There was significant
difference between transplant preparation methods for plant height
and tuber yield. The interaction effect of progenies and transplant
preparation method was not significant for these traits. CIP.888006
progeny and paper pot preparation method produced the highest
tuber yields. Also CIP.994002 and CIP.994014 progenies considered
as the best progenies under paper pot preparation method due to high
yields.
Abstract: Text document categorization involves large amount
of data or features. The high dimensionality of features is a
troublesome and can affect the performance of the classification.
Therefore, feature selection is strongly considered as one of the
crucial part in text document categorization. Selecting the best
features to represent documents can reduce the dimensionality of
feature space hence increase the performance. There were many
approaches has been implemented by various researchers to
overcome this problem. This paper proposed a novel hybrid approach
for feature selection in text document categorization based on Ant
Colony Optimization (ACO) and Information Gain (IG). We also
presented state-of-the-art algorithms by several other researchers.
Abstract: The exact gain shape profile of erbium doped fiber
amplifiers (EDFA`s) are depends on fiber length and Er3 ion
densities. This paper optimized several of erbium doped fiber
parameters to obtain high performance characteristic at pump
wavelengths of λp= 980 nm and λs= 1550 nm for three different
pump powers. The maximum gain obtained for pump powers (10, 30
and 50mw) is nearly (19, 30 and 33 dB) at optimizations. The
required numerical aperture NA to obtain maximum gain becomes
less when pump power increased. The amplifier gain is increase
when Er+3doped near the center of the fiber core. The simulation has
been done by using optisystem 5.0 software (CAD for Photonics, a
license product of a Canadian based company) at 2.5 Gbps.
Abstract: In this paper, a new learning algorithm based on a
hybrid metaheuristic integrating Differential Evolution (DE) and
Reduced Variable Neighborhood Search (RVNS) is introduced to train
the classification method PROAFTN. To apply PROAFTN, values of
several parameters need to be determined prior to classification. These
parameters include boundaries of intervals and relative weights for
each attribute. Based on these requirements, the hybrid approach,
named DEPRO-RVNS, is presented in this study. In some cases, the
major problem when applying DE to some classification problems
was the premature convergence of some individuals to local optima.
To eliminate this shortcoming and to improve the exploration and
exploitation capabilities of DE, such individuals were set to iteratively
re-explored using RVNS. Based on the generated results on
both training and testing data, it is shown that the performance of
PROAFTN is significantly improved. Furthermore, the experimental
study shows that DEPRO-RVNS outperforms well-known machine
learning classifiers in a variety of problems.
Abstract: This work presents a new approach of securing a
wireless network. The configuration is focused on securing &
Protecting wireless network traffic for a small network such as a
home or dorm room. The security Mechanism provided both
authentication, allowing only known authorized users access to the
wireless network, and encryption, preventing anyone from reading
the wireless traffic. The mentioned solution utilizes the open source
free S/WAN software which implements the Internet Protocol
Security –IPSEC. In addition to wireless components, wireless NIC
in PC and wireless access point needs a machine running Linux to act
as security gateway. While the current configuration assumes that the
wireless PC clients are running Linux, Windows XP/VISTA/7 based
machines equipped with VPN software which will allow to interface
with this configuration.
Abstract: Medical image segmentation based on image smoothing followed by edge detection assumes a great degree of importance in the field of Image Processing. In this regard, this paper proposes a novel algorithm for medical image segmentation based on vigorous smoothening by identifying the type of noise and edge diction ideology which seems to be a boom in medical image diagnosis. The main objective of this algorithm is to consider a particular medical image as input and make the preprocessing to remove the noise content by employing suitable filter after identifying the type of noise and finally carrying out edge detection for image segmentation. The algorithm consists of three parts. First, identifying the type of noise present in the medical image as additive, multiplicative or impulsive by analysis of local histograms and denoising it by employing Median, Gaussian or Frost filter. Second, edge detection of the filtered medical image is carried out using Canny edge detection technique. And third part is about the segmentation of edge detected medical image by the method of Normalized Cut Eigen Vectors. The method is validated through experiments on real images. The proposed algorithm has been simulated on MATLAB platform. The results obtained by the simulation shows that the proposed algorithm is very effective which can deal with low quality or marginal vague images which has high spatial redundancy, low contrast and biggish noise, and has a potential of certain practical use of medical image diagnosis.
