Abstract: Lately management strategy that put Industrial Design (ID) in its core is recognized more important, as technology and price alone cannot differentiate a product. The needs to shorten the time to develop a product also shorten the development period of ID, and it necessitates the ID process management. This research analyzes the status of integration process of ID and Engineering Design (ED) of office equipment that requires the collaboration of ID and ED to clarify the issues for the efficiency of the development and to propose solutions.
Abstract: Until recently, researchers have developed various
tools and methodologies for effective clinical decision-making.
Among those decisions, chest pain diseases have been one of
important diagnostic issues especially in an emergency department. To
improve the ability of physicians in diagnosis, many researchers have
developed diagnosis intelligence by using machine learning and data
mining. However, most of the conventional methodologies have been
generally based on a single classifier for disease classification and
prediction, which shows moderate performance. This study utilizes an
ensemble strategy to combine multiple different classifiers to help
physicians diagnose chest pain diseases more accurately than ever.
Specifically the ensemble strategy is applied by using the integration
of decision trees, neural networks, and support vector machines. The
ensemble models are applied to real-world emergency data. This study
shows that the performance of the ensemble models is superior to each
of single classifiers.
Abstract: The development of wearable sensing technologies is a great challenge which is being addressed by the Proetex FP6 project (www.proetex.org). Its main aim is the development of wearable sensors to improve the safety and efficiency of emergency personnel. This will be achieved by continuous, real-time monitoring of vital signs, posture, activity, and external hazards surrounding emergency workers. We report here the development of carbon dioxide (CO2) sensing boot by incorporating commercially available CO2 sensor with a wireless platform into the boot assembly. Carefully selected commercially available sensors have been tested. Some of the key characteristics of the selected sensors are high selectivity and sensitivity, robustness and the power demand. This paper discusses some of the results of CO2 sensor tests and sensor integration with wireless data transmission
Abstract: Company mergers and acquisitions reached their peak
in the twenty-first century. Mergers and acquisitions have become one
of the competitive strategies for external growth. In general, it is
believed that mergers and acquisitions can create synergies. However,
they require complete information technology system and service
integration, especially in the banking industry. Much of the research
has focused on performance evaluation, shareholder equity allocation,
or even the increase of company market value after the merger and
acquisition, whereas few scholars have focused on information system
integration post merger and acquisition. This study indicates the role
of information systems after a merger and acquisition, explaining the
benefits of information system integration using a merger and
acquisition case in the banking industry as an example. In addition, we
discuss factors that affect the performance of information system
integration, and utilize system dynamics to interpret the relationship
among factors that affect information system integration performance
in the banking industry after a merger and acquisition.
Abstract: This paper introduces a low cost INS/GPS algorithm for
land vehicle navigation application. The data fusion process is done
with an extended Kalman filter in cascade configuration mode. In
order to perform numerical simulations, MATLAB software has been
developed. Loosely coupled configuration is considered. The results
obtained in this work demonstrate that a low-cost INS/GPS navigation
system is partially capable of meeting the performance requirements
for land vehicle navigation. The relative effectiveness of the kalman
filter implementation in integrated GPS/INS navigation algorithm is
highlighted. The paper also provides experimental results; field test
using a car is carried out.
Abstract: Consider the Gregory integration (G) formula
with end corrections where h Δ is the forward difference operator with step size h. In this study we prove that can be optimized by
minimizing some of the coefficient k a in the remainder term by
particle swarm optimization. Experimental tests prove that can be rendered a powerful formula for library use.
Abstract: Food control measures are critical in fostering food safety management of a nation. However, no academic study has been undertaken to assess the food control system of Myanmar up to now. The objective of this research paper was to assess the food control system with in depth examination of five key components using desktop analysis and short survey from related food safety program organizations including regulators and inspectors. Study showed that the existing food control system is conventional, mainly focusing on primary health care approach while relying on reactive measures. The achievements of food control work have been limited to a certain extent due to insufficienttechnical capacity that is needed to upgrade staffs, laboratory equipment and technical assistance etc. associated with various sectors. Assessing food control measures is the first step in the integration of food safety management, this paper could assist policy makers in providing information for enhancing the safety and quality of food produced and consumed in Myanmar.
Abstract: The study is aimed to test causal relationship between
growth and unemployment, using time series data for Pakistan from
1972 to 2006. Growth is considered to be a pathway to decrease the
level of unemployment. Unemployment is a social and political
issue. It is a phenomenon where human resources are wasted leading
to deacceleration in growth. Johanson Cointegration shows that there
is long run relationship between growth and unemployment. For
short run dynamics and causality, the study utilizes Vector Error
Correction Model (VECM). The results of VECM indicate that there
is short and long run causal relation between growth and
unemployment including capital, labor and human capital as
explanatory variables.
Abstract: Advances in information technology, recent changes in business environment, globalization, deregulation, privatization have made running a successful business more difficult than ever before. To remain successful and to be competitive have forced companies to react to the new changes in order to survive and succeed. The implementation of an Enterprise Resource planning (ERP) system improves information flow, reduce costs, establish linkage with suppliers and reduce response time to customer needs. This paper focuses on a sample of Greek companies, investigates the ERP market in Greece, the reasons why the Greek companies are investing in ERP systems, the benefits that users have achieved and the influence of ERP systems on the use of new accounting practices. The results indicate a greater level on information integration, flexibility in information access and greater functionality provided by ERP systems but little influence on the use of new accounting practices.
Abstract: In general dynamic analyses, lower mode response is
of interest, however the higher modes of spatially discretized
equations generally do not represent the real behavior and not affects
to global response much. Some implicit algorithms, therefore, are
introduced to filter out the high-frequency modes using intended
numerical error. The objective of this study is to introduce the
P-method and PC α-method to compare that with dissipation method
and Newmark method through the stability analysis and numerical
example. PC α-method gives more accuracy than other methods
because it based on the α-method inherits the superior properties of the
implicit α-method. In finite element analysis, the PC α-method is more
useful than other methods because it is the explicit scheme and it
achieves the second order accuracy and numerical damping
simultaneously.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the
performance of the developed two point block method designed for
two processors for solving directly non stiff large systems of higher
order ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The method calculates
the numerical solution at two points simultaneously and produces
two new equally spaced solution values within a block and it is
possible to assign the computational tasks at each time step to a
single processor. The algorithm of the method was developed in C
language and the parallel computation was done on a parallel shared
memory environment. Numerical results are given to compare the
efficiency of the developed method to the sequential timing. For
large problems, the parallel implementation produced 1.95 speed-up
and 98% efficiency for the two processors.
Abstract: Open Agent System platform based on High Level
Architecture is firstly proposed to support the application involving
heterogeneous agents. The basic idea is to develop different wrappers
for different agent systems, which are wrapped as federates to join a
federation. The platform is based on High Level Architecture and the
advantages for this open standard are naturally inherited, such as
system interoperability and reuse. Especially, the federal architecture
allows different federates to be heterogeneous so as to support the
integration of different agent systems. Furthermore, both implicit
communication and explicit communication between agents can be
supported. Then, as the wrapper RTI_JADE an example, the
components are discussed. Finally, the performance of RTI_JADE is
analyzed. The results show that RTI_JADE works very efficiently.
Abstract: Owing to extensive use of hydrogen in refining or
petrochemical units, it is essential to manage hydrogen network in
order to make the most efficient utilization of hydrogen. On the other
hand, hydrogen is an important byproduct not properly used through
petrochemical complexes and mostly sent to the fuel system. A few
works have been reported in literature to improve hydrogen network
for petrochemical complexes. In this study a comprehensive analysis
is carried out on petrochemical units using a modified automated
targeting technique which is applied to determine the minimum
hydrogen consumption. Having applied the modified targeting
method in two petrochemical cases, the results showed a significant
reduction in required fresh hydrogen.
Abstract: Starting from the basic pillars of the supportability
analysis this paper queries its characteristics in LCI (Life Cycle
Integration) environment. The research methodology contents a
review of modern logistics engineering literature with the objective to
collect and synthesize the knowledge relating to standards of
supportability design in e-logistics environment. The results show
that LCI framework has properties which are in fully compatibility
with the requirement of simultaneous logistics support and productservice
bundle design. The proposed approach is a contribution to the
more comprehensive and efficient supportability design process.
Also, contributions are reflected through a greater consistency of
collected data, automated creation of reports suitable for different
analysis, as well as the possibility of their customization according
with customer needs. In addition to this, convenience of this approach
is its practical use in real time. In a broader sense, LCI allows
integration of enterprises on a worldwide basis facilitating electronic
business.
Abstract: It has been shown that a load discontinuity at the end of
an impulse will result in an extra impulse and hence an extra amplitude
distortion if a step-by-step integration method is employed to yield the
shock response. In order to overcome this difficulty, three remedies
are proposed to reduce the extra amplitude distortion. The first remedy
is to solve the momentum equation of motion instead of the force
equation of motion in the step-by-step solution of the shock response,
where an external momentum is used in the solution of the momentum
equation of motion. Since the external momentum is a resultant of the
time integration of external force, the problem of load discontinuity
will automatically disappear. The second remedy is to perform a single
small time step immediately upon termination of the applied impulse
while the other time steps can still be conducted by using the time step
determined from general considerations. This is because that the extra
impulse caused by a load discontinuity at the end of an impulse is
almost linearly proportional to the step size. Finally, the third remedy
is to use the average value of the two different values at the integration
point of the load discontinuity to replace the use of one of them for
loading input. The basic motivation of this remedy originates from the
concept of no loading input error associated with the integration point
of load discontinuity. The feasibility of the three remedies are
analytically explained and numerically illustrated.
Abstract: This study employs auto-regressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds approach to cointegration for long run and errorcorrection modeling (ECM) for short run analysis to examine the relationship between revenue gap and economic growth for Pakistan using annual time series data over the period 1980 to 2008. The short and long run results indicate that revenue gap is statistical significant and negatively effect economic growth. The significant and negative coefficient of error correction term in ECM indicates that after a shock, the long rum equilibrium will again converge towards equilibrium about 10.406 percent within a year.
Abstract: The Indian subcontinent is facing a massive challenge with regards to the energy security in member countries, i.e. providing a reliable source of electricity to facilitate development across various sectors of the economy and thereby achieve the developmental targets it has set for itself. A highly precarious situation exists in the subcontinent which is observed in the series of system failures which most of the times leads to system collapses-blackouts. To mitigate the issues related with energy security as well as keep in check the increasing supply demand gap, a possible solution that stands in front of the subcontinent is the deployment of an interconnected electricity ‘Supergrid’ designed to carry huge quanta of power across the sub continent as well as provide the infra structure for RES integration. This paper assesses the need and conditions for a Supergrid deployment and consequently proposes a meshed topology based on VSC HVDC converters for the Supergrid modeling.

Abstract: In this study the integration of an absorption heat
pump (AHP) with the concentration section of an industrial pulp and
paper process is investigated using pinch technology. The optimum
design of the proposed water-lithium bromide AHP is then achieved
by minimizing the total annual cost. A comprehensive optimization is
carried out by relaxation of all stream pressure drops as well as heat
exchanger areas involving in AHP structure. It is shown that by
applying genetic algorithm optimizer, the total annual cost of the
proposed AHP is decreased by 18% compared to one resulted from
simulation.
Abstract: The 4G front-end transceiver needs a high
performance which can be obtained mainly with an optimal
architecture and a multi-band Local Oscillator. In this study, we
proposed and presented a new architecture of multi-band frequency
synthesizer based on an Inverse Sine Phase Detector Phase Locked
Loop (ISPD PLL) without any filters and any controlled gain block
and associated with adapted multi band LC tuned VCO using a
several numeric controlled capacitive branches but not binary
weighted. The proposed architecture, based on 0.35μm CMOS
process technology, supporting Multi-band GSM/DCS/DECT/
UMTS/WiMax application and gives a good performances: a phase
noise @1MHz -127dBc and a Factor Of Merit (FOM) @ 1MHz -
186dB and a wide band frequency range (from 0.83GHz to 3.5GHz),
that make the proposed architecture amenable for monolithic
integration and 4G multi-band application.
