Abstract: The one of most important objects in implementation
of damage analysis observations is manner of dam break wave
propagation. In this paper velocity and wave height due dam break in
with and without tailwater states for appointment hazardous lands
and flood radius are investigate. In order to modeling above
phenomenon finite volume method of Roe type for solving shallow
water equations is used. Results indicated that in the dry bed state
risk radius due to dam break is too high. While in the wet bed risk
radius has a less wide. Therefore in the first state constructions and
storage facilities are encountered with destruction risk. Further
velocity due to dam break in the second state is more comparing to
the first state. Hence erosion and scour the river bed in the dry bed is
too more compare to the wet bed.
Abstract: The effects of irrigation with dairy factory wastewater on soil properties were investigated at two sites that had received irrigation for > 60 years. Two adjoining paired sites that had never received DFE were also sampled as well as another seven fields from a wider area around the factory. In comparison with paired sites that had not received effluent, long-term wastewater irrigation resulted in an increase in pH, EC, extractable P, exchangeable Na and K and ESP. These changes were related to the use of phosphoric acid, NaOH and KOH as cleaning agents in the factory. Soil organic C content was unaffected by DFE irrigation but the size (microbial biomass C and N) and activity (basal respiration) of the soil microbial community were increased. These increases were attributed to regular inputs of soluble C (e.g. lactose) present as milk residues in the wastewater. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the soils data from all 11sites confirmed that the main effects of DFE irrigation were an increase in exchangeable Na, extractable P and microbial biomass C, an accumulation of soluble salts and a liming effect. PCA analysis of soil bacterial community structure, using PCR-DGGE of 16S rDNA fragments, generally separated individual sites from one another but did not group them according to irrigation history. Thus, whilst the size and activity of the soil microbial community were increased, the structure and diversity of the bacterial community remained unaffected.
Abstract: The equations governing the flow of an electrically conducting, incompressible viscous fluid over an infinite flat plate in the presence of a magnetic field are investigated using the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) with Padé approximants (PA) and 4th order Runge–Kutta method (4RKM). Approximate analytical and numerical solutions for the velocity field and heat transfer are obtained and compared with each other, showing excellent agreement. The effects of the magnetic parameter and Prandtl number on velocity field, shear stress, temperature and heat transfer are discussed as well.
Abstract: Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is a powerful
and efficient mathematical approach widely applied in the
optimization of cultivation process. Cellulase enzyme production by
Trichoderma reesei RutC30 using agricultural waste rice straw and
banana fiber as carbon source were investigated. In this work,
sequential optimization strategy based statistical design was
employed to enhance the production of cellulase enzyme through
submerged cultivation. A fractional factorial design (26-2) was applied
to elucidate the process parameters that significantly affect cellulase
production. Temperature, Substrate concentration, Inducer
concentration, pH, inoculum age and agitation speed were identified
as important process parameters effecting cellulase enzyme synthesis.
The concentration of lignocelluloses and lactose (inducer) in the
cultivation medium were found to be most significant factors. The
steepest ascent method was used to locate the optimal domain and a
Central Composite Design (CCD) was used to estimate the quadratic
response surface from which the factor levels for maximum
production of cellulase were determined.
Abstract: Terrorism represents an unexpected and unwanted change which challenges one-s social identity. We carried out a study to explore the demographic variables- role on the perception of personal and national threat, and to investigate the effects of perceived terrorist threat on people-s ways of life, moods, opinions and hopes. 313 residents of Palermo (Italy) were interviewed. The results pointed out that the fear of terrorism affects three areas: the cognitive, the emotional and the behavioural one.
Abstract: When the characteristic length of an elastic solid is
down to the nanometer level, its deformation behavior becomes size
dependent. Surface energy /surface stress have recently been applied
to explain such dependency. In this paper, the effect of
strain-independent surface stress on the deformation of an isotropic
elastic solid containing a nanosized elliptical hole is studied by the
finite element method. Two loading cases are considered, in the first
case, hoop stress along the rim of the elliptical hole induced by pure
surface stress is studied, in the second case, hoop stress around the
elliptical opening under combined remote tension and surface stress is
investigated. It has been shown that positive surface stress induces
compressive hoop stress along the hole, and negative surface stress has
opposite effect, maximum hoop stress occurs near the major semi-axes
of the ellipse. Under combined loading of remote tension and surface
stress, stress concentration around the hole can be either intensified or
weakened depending on the sign of the surface stress.
Abstract: In this paper, the generalized (2+1)-dimensional Calogero-Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff (shortly CBS) equations are investigated. We employ the Hirota-s bilinear method to obtain the bilinear form of CBS equations. Then by the idea of extended homoclinic test approach (shortly EHTA), some exact soliton solutions including breather type solutions are presented.
Abstract: The impeller and the casing are the key components of
a centrifugal pump. Although there have been many studies on the
impeller and the volute casing of centrifugal pump, further study of the
volute casing to improve the performance of centrifugal pumps is
needed. In this paper, the effect of cross-sectional area on the
performance of volute casing was investigated using a commercial
CFD code. The performance characteristics, not only at the off-design
point but also for a full type model are required these days. So we
conducted numerical analysis for all operating points by using
complete geometry through transient analysis. Transient analysis on
the complete geometry of a real product has the advantage of
simulating realistic flow. The results of this study show the variation of
a performance curve by modifying the above-mentioned design
parameter.
Abstract: One of the important applications of gas turbines is
their utilization for heat recovery steam generator in combine-cycle technology. Exhaust flow and energy are two key parameters for
determining heat recovery steam generator performance which are mainly determined by the main gas turbine components performance
data. For this reason a method was developed for determining the
exhaust energy in the new edition of ASME PTC22. The result of this investigation shows that the method of standard has considerable
error. Therefore in this paper a new method is presented for modifying of the performance calculation. The modified method is
based on exhaust gas constituent analysis and combustion calculations. The case study presented here by two kind of General
Electric gas turbine design data for validation of methodologies. The
result shows that the modified method is more precise than the ASME PTC22 method. The exhaust flow calculation deviation from
design data is 1.5-2 % by ASME PTC22 method so that the deviation regarding with modified method is 0.3-0.5%. Based on precision of
analyzer instruments, the method can be suitable alternative for gas
turbine standard performance test. In advance two methods are
proposed based on known and unknown fuel in modified method procedure. The result of this paper shows that the difference between
the two methods is below than %0.02. In according to reasonable esult of the second procedure (unknown fuel composition), the
method can be applied to performance evaluation of gas turbine, so that the measuring cost and data gathering should be reduced.
Abstract: This study fabricates p-type Ni1−xO:Li/n-Si heterojunction solar cells (P+/n HJSCs) by using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering and investigates the effect of substrate temperature on photovoltaic cell properties. Grazing incidence x-ray diffraction, four point probe, and ultraviolet-visible-near infrared discover the optoelectrical properties of p-Ni1-xO thin films. The results show that p-Ni1-xO thin films deposited at 300 oC has the highest grain size (22.4 nm), average visible transmittance (~42%), and electrical resistivity (2.7 Ωcm). However, the conversion efficiency of cell is shown only 2.33% which is lower than the cell (3.39%) fabricated at room temperature. This result can be mainly attributed to interfacial layer thickness (SiOx) reduces from 2.35 nm to 1.70 nm, as verified by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.
Abstract: During the last decade Panicum virgatum, known as
Switchgrass, has been broadly studied because of its remarkable
attributes as a substitute pasture and as a functional biofuel source.
The objective of this investigation was to establish soil suitability for
Switchgrass in the State of Mississippi. A linear weighted additive
model was developed to forecast soil suitability. Multicriteria
analysis and Sensitivity analysis were utilized to adjust and optimize
the model. The model was fit using seven years of field data
associated with soils characteristics collected from Natural Resources
Conservation System - United States Department of Agriculture
(NRCS-USDA). The best model was selected by correlating
calculated biomass yield with each model's soils-based output for
Switchgrass suitability. Coefficient of determination (r2) was the
decisive factor used to establish the 'best' soil suitability model.
Coefficients associated with the 'best' model were implemented
within a Geographic Information System (GIS) to create a map of
relative soil suitability for Switchgrass in Mississippi. A Geodatabase
associated with soil parameters was built and is available for future
Geographic Information System use.
Abstract: With the proliferation of Weblogs (blogs) use in
educational contexts, gaining a better understanding of why
students are willing to utilize blog systems has become an
important topic for practitioners and academics. While perceived
enjoyment has been found to have a significant influence on
behavioral intentions to use blogs or hedonic systems, few studies
have investigated the antecedents of perceived enjoyment in the
acceptance of blogging. The main purpose of the present study is to
explore the individual difference antecedents of perceived
enjoyment and examine how they influence behavioral intention to
blog through the mediation of perceived enjoyment. Based on the
previous literature, the Big Five personality traits (i.e.,
extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and
openness to experience), as well as computer self-efficacy and
personal innovation in information technology (PIIT), are
hypothesized as potential antecedents of perceived enjoyment in
the acceptance of blogging. Data collected from 358 respondents in
Taiwan are tested against the research model using the structural
equation modeling approach. The results indicate that extraversion,
agreeableness, conscientiousness, and PIIT have a significant
influence on perceived enjoyment, which in turn significantly
influences the behavioral intention to blog. These findings lead to
several important implications for future research.
Abstract: Geosynthetics have proved to be suitable for
reinforced soil retaining walls. Based on the increasing uses of
geosynthetic reinforced soil systems in the regions, which bear
frequent earthquakes, the study of dynamic behavior of structures
seems necessary. Determining the reinforcement forces is; therefore,
one of the most important and main points of discussions in
designing retaining walls, by which we prevent from conservative
planning. Thus, this paper intended to investigate the effects of such
parameters as wall height, acceleration type, vertical spacing of
reinforcement, type of reinforcement and soil type on forces and
deformation through numerical modeling of the geosynthetic
reinforced soil retaining walls (GRSRW) under dynamic loading with
finite difference method by using FLAC. The findings indicate rather
positive results with each parameter.
Abstract: The sonochemical decolorization and degradation of azo dye Methyl violet using Fenton-s reagent in the presence of a high-frequency acoustic field has been investigated. Dyeing and textile effluents are the major sources of azo dyes, and are most troublesome among industrial wastewaters, causing imbalance in the eco-system. The effect of various operating conditions (initial concentration of dye, liquid-phase temperature, ultrasonic power and frequency and process time) on sonochemical degradation was investigated. Conversion was found to increase with increase in initial concentration, temperature, power level and frequency. Both horntype and tank-type sonicators were used, at various power levels (250W, 400W and 500W) for frequencies ranging from 20 kHz - 1000 kHz. A 'Process Intensification' parameter PI, was defined to quantify the enhancement of the degradation reaction by ultrasound when compared to control (i.e., without ultrasound). The present work clearly demonstrates that a high-frequency ultrasonic bath can be used to achieve higher process throughput and energy efficiency at a larger scale of operation.
Abstract: This paper describes topic of computer simulation with regard to the ground movement above an underground mine. Simulation made with software package ADINA for nonlinear elastic-plastic analysis with finite elements method. The one of representative profiles from Mine 'Stara Jama' in Zenica has been investigated. A collection and selection of both geo-mechanical data and geometric parameters of the mine was necessary for performing these simulations. Results of estimation have been compared with measured values (vertical displacement of surface), and then simulation performed with assumed dynamic and dimensions of excavation, over a period of time. Results are presented with bitmaps and charts.
Abstract: This paper studies mechanical buckling of
functionally graded beams subjected to axial compressive load that is
simply supported at both ends lies on a continuous elastic foundation.
The displacement field of beam is assumed based on Engesser-Timoshenko beam theory. Applying the Hamilton's principle, the
equilibrium equation is established. The influences of dimensionless geometrical parameter, functionally graded index and foundation
coefficient on the critical buckling load of beam are presented. To investigate the accuracy of the present analysis, a compression study
is carried out with a known data.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigate multihop polling and data gathering schemes in layered sensor networks in order to extend the life time of the networks. A network consists of three layers. The lowest layer contains sensors. The middle layer contains so called super nodes with higher computational power, energy supply and longer transmission range than sensor nodes. The top layer contains a sink node. A node in each layer controls a number of nodes in lower layer by polling mechanism to gather data. We will present four types of data gathering schemes: intermediate nodes do not queue data packet, queue single packet, queue multiple packets and aggregate data, to see which data gathering scheme is more energy efficient for multihop polling in layered sensor networks.
Abstract: In recent years, there have been attempts to store
natural gas in adsorptive form. This is called adsorptive natural gas,
or ANG. The problem with this technology is the low sorption
capacity. The purpose is to achieve compressed natural gas (CNG)
capacity of 230 V/V. Further research is required to achieve such
target. Several research studies have been performed with this target;
through either the modification or development of new sorbents or
the optimization of the operation sorption process itself. In this work,
storage of methane on molecular sieves 5A and 13X was studied on
dry basis, and on wet basis to certain extent. The temperature and the
pressure dynamics were investigated. The results indicated that
regardless of the charge pressure, the time for the peak temperature
during the methane charge process is always the same. This can be
used as a characteristic of the adsorbent. The total achieved
deliveries using molecular sieves were much lower than that of
activated carbons; 53.0 V/V for the case of 13X molecular sieves and
43 V/V for the case of 5A molecular sieves, both at 2oC and 4 MPa
(580 psi). Investigation of charge pressure dynamic using wet
molecular sieves at 2oC and a mass ratio of 0.5, revealed slowness of
the process and unexpected behavior.
Abstract: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of adding coal to obtain insulating ceramic product. The preparation of mixtures is achieved with 04 types of different masse compositions, consisting of gray and yellow clay, and coal. Analyses are performed on local raw materials by adding coal as additive. The coal content varies from 5 to 20 % in weight by varying the size of coal particles ranging from 0.25mm to 1.60mm.
Initially, each natural moisture content of a raw material has been determined at the temperature of 105°C in a laboratory oven. The Influence of low-coal content on absorption, the apparent density, the contraction and the resistance during compression have been evaluated. The experimental results showed that the optimized composition could be obtained by adding 10% by weight of coal leading thus to insulating ceramic products with water absorption, a density and resistance to compression of 9.40 %, 1.88 g/cm3, 35.46 MPa, respectively. The results show that coal, when mixed with traditional raw materials, offers the conditions to be used as an additive in the production of lightweight ceramic products.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of computer–based instructional designs, namely modality and redundancy principles on the attitude and learning of music theory among primary pupils of different Music Intelligence levels. The lesson of music theory was developed in three different modes, audio and image (AI), text with image (TI) and audio with image and text (AIT). The independent variables were the three modes of courseware. The moderator variable was music intelligence. The dependent variables were the post test score. ANOVA was used to determine the significant differences of the pretest scores among the three groups. Analyses of covariance (ANCOVA) and Post hoc were carried out to examine the main effects as well as the interaction effects of the independent variables on the dependent variables. High music intelligence pupils performed significantly better than low music intelligence pupils in all the three treatment modes. The AI mode was found to help pupils with low music intelligence significantly more than the TI and AIT modes.
