Abstract: By means of Sidi-Israeli’s quadrature rules, mechanical quadrature methods (MQMs) for solving the first kind boundary integral equations (BIEs) of steady state Stokes problem are presented. The convergence of numerical solutions by MQMs is proved based on Anselone’s collective compact and asymptotical compact theory, and the asymptotic expansions with the odd powers of the errors are provided, which implies that the accuracy of the approximations by MQMs possesses high accuracy order O (h3). Finally, the numerical examples show the efficiency of our methods.
Abstract: Adsorption refrigeration working pair is a vital and is the main component in the adsorption refrigeration machine. Therefore the development key is laying on the adsorption pair that leads to the improvement of the adsorption refrigeration machine. In this study the state-of-the-art in the application of the adsorption refrigeration working pairs in both classical and modern adsorption pairs are presented, compared and summarized. It is found that the maximum adsorption capacity for the classical working pairs was 0.259kg/kg for activated carbon/methanol and that for the modern working pairs was 2kg/kg for maxsorb III/R-134a. The study concluded that, the performances of the adsorption working pairs of adsorption cooling systems are still need further investigations as well as developing adsorption pairs having higher sorption capacity with low or no impact on environmental, to build compact, efficient, reliable and long life performance adsorption chillier. Also, future researches need to be focused on designing the adsorption system that provide efficient heating and cooling for the adsorbent materials through distributing the adsorbent material over heat exchanger surface, to allow good heat and mass transfer between the adsorbent and the refrigerant.
Abstract: This study is experimentally targeting to develop effective in heat and mass transfer processes for the adsorbate to obtain applicable adsorption capacity data. This is done by using fin and tube heat exchanger core and the adsorbate is adhesive over its surface and located as the core of the adsorber. The pairs are activated carbon powder/R-134a, activated carbon powder/R-407c, activated carbon powder/R-507A, activated carbon granules/R-507A, activated carbon granules/R-407c and activated carbon granules/R-134a, at different adsorption temperatures of 25, 30, 35 and 50°C. The following is results is obtained: at adsorption temperature of 25 °C the maximum adsorption capacity is found to be 0.8352kg/kg for activated carbon powder with R-134a and the minimum adsorption capacity found to be 0.1583kg/kg for activated carbon granules with R-407c. While, at adsorption temperature of 50°C the maximum adsorption capacity is found to be 0.3207kg/kg for activated carbon powder with R-134a and the minimum adsorption capacity found to be 0.0609kg/kg for activated carbon granules with R-407c. Therefore, the activated carbon powder/R-134a pair is highly recommended to be used as adsorption refrigeration working pair because of its higher maximum adsorption capacity than the other tested pairs, to produce a compact, efficient and reliable for long life performance adsorption refrigeration system.
Abstract: Discrete search path planning in time-constrained uncertain environment relying upon imperfect sensors is known to be hard, and current problem-solving techniques proposed so far to compute near real-time efficient path plans are mainly bounded to provide a few move solutions. A new information-theoretic –based open-loop decision model explicitly incorporating false alarm sensor readings, to solve a single agent military logistics search-and-delivery path planning problem with anticipated feedback is presented. The decision model consists in minimizing expected entropy considering anticipated possible observation outcomes over a given time horizon. The model captures uncertainty associated with observation events for all possible scenarios. Entropy represents a measure of uncertainty about the searched target location. Feedback information resulting from possible sensor observations outcomes along the projected path plan is exploited to update anticipated unit target occupancy beliefs. For the first time, a compact belief update formulation is generalized to explicitly include false positive observation events that may occur during plan execution. A novel genetic algorithm is then proposed to efficiently solve search path planning, providing near-optimal solutions for practical realistic problem instances. Given the run-time performance of the algorithm, natural extension to a closed-loop environment to progressively integrate real visit outcomes on a rolling time horizon can be easily envisioned. Computational results show the value of the approach in comparison to alternate heuristics.
Abstract: At highly congested reinforcement regions, which is common at beam-column joint area, clear spacing between parallel bars becomes less than maximum normal aggregate size (20mm) which has not been addressed in any design code and specifications. Limited clear spacing between parallel bars (herein after thin cover) is one of the causes which affect anchorage performance. In this study, an experimental investigation was carried out to understand anchorage performance of reinforcement in Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) and Normal Concrete (NC) at highly congested regions under uni-axial tensile loading. Column bar was pullout whereas; beam bars were offset from column reinforcement creating thin cover as per site condition. Two different sizes of coarse aggregate were used for NC (20mm and 10mm). Strain gauges were also installed along the bar in some specimens to understand the internal stress mechanism. Test results reveal that anchorage performance is affected at highly congested reinforcement region in NC with maximum aggregate size 20mm whereas; SCC and Small Aggregate (10mm) gives better structural performance.
Abstract: Hydrogen fuel is a zero-emission fuel which uses electrochemical cells or combustion in internal engines, to power vehicles and electric devices. Methods of hydrogen storage for subsequent use span many approaches, including high pressures, cryogenics and chemical compounds that reversibly release H2 upon heating. Most research into hydrogen storage is focused on storing hydrogen as a lightweight, compact energy carrier for mobile applications. With the accelerating demand for cleaner and more efficient energy sources, hydrogen research has attracted more attention in the scientific community. Until now, full implementation of a hydrogen-based energy system has been hindered in part by the challenge of storing hydrogen gas, especially onboard an automobile. New techniques being researched may soon make hydrogen storage more compact, safe and efficient. In this overview, few hydrogen storage methods and mechanism of hydrogen uptake in carbon nanotubes are summarized.
Abstract: Pore water pressure is normally because of
consolidation, compaction and water level fluctuation on reservoir.
Measuring, controlling and analyzing of pore water pressure have
significant importance in both of construction and operation period.
Since end of 2002, (dam start up) nature of KARKHEH dam has
been analyzed by using the gathered information from
instrumentation system of dam. In this lecture dam condition after
start up have been analyzed by using the gathered data from located
piezometers in core of dam. According to TERZAGHI equation and
records of piezometers, consolidation lasted around five years during
early years of construction stage, and current pore water pressure in
core of dam is caused by water level fluctuation in reservoir.
Although there is time lag between water level fluctuation and results
of piezometers. These time lags have been checked and the results
clearly show that one of the most important causes of it is distance
between piezometer and reservoir.
Abstract: This paper presents a new compact analytical model of
the gate leakage current in high-k based nano scale MOSFET by
assuming a two-step inelastic trap-assisted tunneling (ITAT) process
as the conduction mechanism. This model is based on an inelastic
trap-assisted tunneling (ITAT) mechanism combined with a semiempirical
gate leakage current formulation in the BSIM 4 model. The
gate tunneling currents have been calculated as a function of gate
voltage for different gate dielectrics structures such as HfO2, Al2O3
and Si3N4 with EOT (equivalent oxide thickness) of 1.0 nm. The
proposed model is compared and contrasted with santaurus
simulation results to verify the accuracy of the model and excellent
agreement is found between the analytical and simulated data. It is
observed that proposed analytical model is suitable for different highk
gate dielectrics simply by adjusting two fitting parameters. It was
also shown that gate leakages reduced with the introduction of high-k
gate dielectric in place of SiO2.
Abstract: Mycophenolic acid (MPA) is a secondary metabolite
produced by Penicillium brevicompactum, which has antibiotic and
immunosuppressive properties. In this study, the first, mycophenolic
acid was produced in a fermentation process by Penicillium
brevicompactum MUCL 19011 in shake flask using a base medium.
The maximum MPA production, product yield and productivity of
process were 1.379 g/L, 18.6 mg/g glucose and 4.9 mg/L. h,
respectively. Also the glucose consumption, biomass and MPA
production profiles were investigated during batch cultivation.
Obtained results showed that MPA production starts approximately
after 180 hours and reaches to a maximum at 280 h. In the next step,
the effects of some various concentrations of enzymatically
hydrolyzed casein on MPA production were evaluated. Maximum
MPA production, product yield and productivity as 3.63 g/L, 49
mg/g glucose and 12.96 mg/L.h, respectively were obtained with
using 30 g/L enzymatically hydrolyzed casein in culture medium.
These values show an enhanced MPA production, product yield and
process productivity pr as 116.8%, 132.8% and 163.2%, respectively.
Abstract: This paper describes the development of a fully
automated measurement software for antenna radiation pattern
measurements in a Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR). The
CATR has a frequency range from 2-40 GHz and the measurement
hardware includes a Network Analyzer for transmitting and
Receiving the microwave signal and a Positioner controller to control
the motion of the Styrofoam column. The measurement process
includes Calibration of CATR with a Standard Gain Horn (SGH)
antenna followed by Gain versus angle measurement of the Antenna
under test (AUT). The software is designed to control a variety of
microwave transmitter / receiver and two axis Positioner controllers
through the standard General Purpose interface bus (GPIB) interface.
Addition of new Network Analyzers is supported through a slight
modification of hardware control module. Time-domain gating is
implemented to remove the unwanted signals and get the isolated
response of AUT. The gated response of the AUT is compared with
the calibration data in the frequency domain to obtain the desired
results. The data acquisition and processing is implemented in
Agilent VEE and Matlab. A variety of experimental measurements
with SGH antennas were performed to validate the accuracy of
software. A comparison of results with existing commercial
softwares is presented and the measured results are found to be
within .2 dBm.
Abstract: In this work we present a solution for DAGC (Digital
Automatic Gain Control) in WLAN receivers compatible to IEEE 802.11a/g standard. Those standards define communication in 5/2.4
GHz band using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing OFDM modulation scheme. WLAN Transceiver that we have used
enables gain control over Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) and a
Variable Gain Amplifier (VGA). The control over those signals is
performed in our digital baseband processor using dedicated hardware block DAGC. DAGC in this process is used to automatically control the VGA and LNA in order to achieve better
signal-to-noise ratio, decrease FER (Frame Error Rate) and hold the
average power of the baseband signal close to the desired set point.
DAGC function in baseband processor is done in few steps: measuring power levels of baseband samples of an RF signal, accumulating the differences between the measured power level and
actual gain setting, adjusting a gain factor of the accumulation, and
applying the adjusted gain factor the baseband values. Based on the measurement results of RSSI signal dependence to input power we have concluded that this digital AGC can be implemented applying
the simple linearization of the RSSI. This solution is very simple but also effective and reduces complexity and power consumption of the
DAGC. This DAGC is implemented and tested both in FPGA and in ASIC as a part of our WLAN baseband processor. Finally, we have integrated this circuit in a compact WLAN PCMCIA board based on MAC and baseband ASIC chips designed from us.
Abstract: Microstrip lines, widely used for good reason, are
broadband in frequency and provide circuits that are compact and
light in weight. They are generally economical to produce since they
are readily adaptable to hybrid and monolithic integrated circuit (IC)
fabrication technologies at RF and microwave frequencies. Although,
the existing EM simulation models used for the synthesis and
analysis of microstrip lines are reasonably accurate, they are
computationally intensive and time consuming. Neural networks
recently gained attention as fast and flexible vehicles to microwave
modeling, simulation and optimization. After learning and
abstracting from microwave data, through a process called training,
neural network models are used during microwave design to provide
instant answers to the task learned. This paper presents simple and
accurate ANN models for the synthesis and analysis of Microstrip
lines to more accurately compute the characteristic parameters and
the physical dimensions respectively for the required design
specifications.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a Connect6 solver which
adopts a hybrid approach based on a tree-search algorithm and image
processing techniques. The solver must deal with the complicated
computation and provide high performance in order to make real-time
decisions. The proposed approach enables the solver to be
implemented on a single Spartan-6 XC6SLX45 FPGA produced by
XILINX without using any external devices. The compact
implementation is achieved through image processing techniques to
optimize a tree-search algorithm of the Connect6 game. The tree
search is widely used in computer games and the optimal search brings
the best move in every turn of a computer game. Thus, many
tree-search algorithms such as Minimax algorithm and artificial
intelligence approaches have been widely proposed in this field.
However, there is one fundamental problem in this area; the
computation time increases rapidly in response to the growth of the
game tree. It means the larger the game tree is, the bigger the circuit
size is because of their highly parallel computation characteristics.
Here, this paper aims to reduce the size of a Connect6 game tree using
image processing techniques and its position symmetric property. The
proposed solver is composed of four computational modules: a
two-dimensional checkmate strategy checker, a template matching
module, a skilful-line predictor, and a next-move selector. These
modules work well together in selecting next moves from some
candidates and the total amount of their circuits is small. The details of
the hardware design for an FPGA implementation are described and
the performance of this design is also shown in this paper.
Abstract: In this paper, three types of defected ground structure
(DGS) units which are triangular-head (TH), rectangular-head (RH)
and U-shape (US) are investigated. They are further used to low-pass
and band-pass filters designs (LPF and BPF) and the obtained
performances are examined. The LPF employing RH-DGS geometry
presents the advantages of compact size, low-insertion loss and wide
stopband compared to the other filters. It provides cutoff frequency of
2.5 GHz, largest rejection band width of 20 dB from 2.98 to 8.76
GHz, smallest transition region and smallest sharpness of the cutoff
frequency. The BPF based on RH-DGS has the highest bandwidth
(BW) of about 0.74 GHz and the lowest center frequency of 3.24
GHz, whereas the other BPFs have BWs less than 0.7 GHz.
Abstract: Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) based transform coding is very popular in image, video and speech compression due to its good energy compaction and decorrelating properties. However, at low bit rates, the reconstructed images generally suffer from visually annoying blocking artifacts as a result of coarse quantization. Lapped transform was proposed as an alternative to the DCT with reduced blocking artifacts and increased coding gain. Lapped transforms are popular for their good performance, robustness against oversmoothing and availability of fast implementation algorithms. However, there is no proper study reported in the literature regarding the statistical distributions of block Lapped Orthogonal Transform (LOT) and Lapped Biorthogonal Transform (LBT) coefficients. This study performs two goodness-of-fit tests, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test and the 2- test, to determine the distribution that best fits the LOT and LBT coefficients. The experimental results show that the distribution of a majority of the significant AC coefficients can be modeled by the Generalized Gaussian distribution. The knowledge of the statistical distribution of transform coefficients greatly helps in the design of optimal quantizers that may lead to minimum distortion and hence achieve optimal coding efficiency.

Abstract: In this research paper, a slotted coaxial line fed cross
dipole excitation structure for short backfire antenna is proposed and
developed to achieve reconfigurable circular polarization. The cross
dipole, which is fed by the slotted coaxial line, consists of two
orthogonal dipoles. The dipoles are mounted on the outer conductor
of the coaxial line. A unique technique is developed to generate
reconfigurable circular polarization using cross dipole configuration.
The sub-reflector is supported by the feed line, thus requiring no
extra support. The antenna is developed on elliptical ground plane
with dielectric rim making antenna compact. It is demonstrated that
cross dipole excited short backfire antenna can achieve voltage
standing wave ratio (VSWR) bandwidth of 14.28% for 2:1 VSWR,
axial ratio of 0.2 dB with axial ratio (≤ 3dB) bandwidth of 2.14% and
a gain of more than 12 dBi. The experimental results for the designed
antenna structure are in close agreement with computer simulations.
Abstract: The tensile properties of Mg-3%Al nanocrystalline
alloys were investigated at different test environment. Bulk
nanocrystalline samples of these alloy was successfully prepared by
mechanical alloying (MA) followed by cold compaction, sintering,
and hot extrusion process. The crystal size of the consolidated milled
sample was calculated by X-Ray line profile analysis. The
deformation mechanism and microstructural characteristic at
different test condition was discussed extensively. At room
temperature, relatively lower value of activation volume (AV) and
higher value of strain rate sensitivity (SRS) suggests that new rate
controlling mechanism accommodating plastic flow in the present
nanocrystalline sample. The deformation behavior and the
microstructural character of the present samples were discussed in
details.
Abstract: A total of twenty tensile biopsies were collected from
children undergoing tonsillectomy from teaching hospital ENT
department and Kurdistan private hospital in sulaimani city. All
biopsies were homogenized and cultured; the obtained bacterial
isolates were purified and identified by biochemical tests and VITEK
2 compact system. Among the twenty studied samples, only one
Pseudomonas putida with probability of 99% was isolated.
Antimicrobial susceptibility was carried out by disk diffusion
method, Pseudomonas putida showed resistance to all antibiotics
used except vancomycin. The isolate further subjected to PCR and
DNA sequence analysis of blaVIM gene using different set of primers
for different regions of VIM gene. The results were found to be PCR
positive for the blaVIM gene. To determine the sequence of blaVIM
gene, DNA sequencing performed. Sequence alignment of blaVIM
gene with previously recorded blaVIM gene in NCBI- database showed
that P. putida isolate have different blaVIM gene.
