Abstract: The Speexx results revealed four main factors
affecting the success of 190 Thai sophomores as follows: 1) Future
English training should be pursued in applied Speexx development.
2) Thai students didn’t see the benefit of having an Online Language
Training Program. 3) There is a great need to educate the next
generation of learners on the benefits of Speexx within the
community. 4) A great majority of Thai Sophomores didn't know
what Speexx was.
A guideline for self-reliance planning consisted of four aspects: 1)
Development planning: by arranging groups to further improve
English abilities with the Speexx Language Training program and
encourage using Speexx into every day practice. Local communities
need to develop awareness of the usefulness of Speexx and share the
value of using the program among family and friends. 2) Humanities
and Social Science staff should develop skills using this Online
Language Training Program to expand on the benefits of Speexx
within their departments. 3) Further research should be pursued on
the Thai Students progression with Speexx and how it helps them
improve their language skills with Business English. 4) University’s
and Language centers should focus on using Speexx to encourage
learning for any language, not just English.
Abstract: The area of liberty, security and justice within the
European Union is still a work in progress. No one can deny that the
EU struggles between a monistic and a dualist approach.
The aim of our essay is to first review how the European law is
perceived by the rest of the international scene. It will then discuss
two main mechanisms at play: the interpretation of larger
international treaties and the penal mechanisms of European law.
Finally, it will help us understand the role of a penal Europe on the
international scene with concrete examples.
Special attention will be paid to cases that deal with fundamental
rights as they represent an interesting case study in Europe and in the
rest of the World. It could illustrate the aforementioned duality
currently present in the Union’s interpretation of international public
law. On the other hand, it will explore some specific European penal
mechanism through mutual recognition and the European arrest
warrant in the transnational criminality frame.
Concerning the interpretation of the treaties, it will first, underline
the ambiguity and the general nature of some treaties that leave the
EU exposed to tension and misunderstanding then it will review the
validity of an EU act (whether or not it is compatible with the rules of
International law).
Finally, it will focus on the most complete manifestation of liberty,
security and justice through the principle of mutual recognition. Used
initially in commercial matters, it has become “the cornerstone” of
European construction. It will see how it is applied in judicial
decisions (its main event and achieving success is via the European
arrest warrant) and how European member states have managed to
develop this cooperation.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the concept of an
agile enterprise model and to initiate discussion on the research
assumptions of the model presented. The implementation of the
research project "The agility of enterprises in the process of adapting
to the environment and its changes" began in August 2014 and is
planned to last three years. The article has the form of a work-inprogress
paper which aims to verify and initiate a debate over the
proposed research model. In the literature there are very few
publications relating to research into agility; it can be concluded that
the most controversial issue in this regard is the method of measuring
agility. In previous studies the operationalization of agility was often
fragmentary, focusing only on selected areas of agility, for example
manufacturing, or analysing only selected sectors. As a result the
measures created to date can only be treated as contributory to the
development of precise measurement tools. This research project
aims to fill a cognitive gap in the literature with regard to the
conceptualization and operationalization of an agile company. Thus,
the original contribution of the author of this project is the
construction of a theoretical model that integrates manufacturing
agility (consisting mainly in adaptation to the environment) and
strategic agility (based on proactive measures). The author of this
research project is primarily interested in the attributes of an agile
enterprise which indicate that the company is able to rapidly adapt to
changing circumstances and behave pro-actively.
Abstract: In this paper we propose a novel methodology for
extracting a road network and its nodes from satellite images of
Algeria country.
This developed technique is a progress of our previous research
works. It is founded on the information theory and the mathematical
morphology; the information theory and the mathematical
morphology are combined together to extract and link the road
segments to form a road network and its nodes.
We therefore have to define objects as sets of pixels and to study
the shape of these objects and the relations that exist between them.
In this approach, geometric and radiometric features of roads are
integrated by a cost function and a set of selected points of a crossing
road. Its performances were tested on satellite images of Algeria
country.
Abstract: Corrosion of concrete sewer pipes induced by
sulphuric acid attack is a recognised problem worldwide, which is not
only an attribute of countries with hot climate conditions as thought
before. The significance of this problem is by far only realised when
the pipe collapses causing surface flooding and other severe
consequences. To change the existing post-reactive attitude of
managing companies, easy to use and robust models are required to
be developed which currently lack reliable data to be correctly
calibrated. This paper focuses on laboratory experiments of
establishing concrete pipe corrosion rate by submerging samples in to
0.5pH sulphuric acid solution for 56 days under 10ºC, 20ºC and 30ºC
temperature regimes. The result showed that at very early stage of the
corrosion process the samples gained overall mass, at 30ºC the
corrosion progressed quicker than for other temperature regimes,
however with time the corrosion level for 10ºC and 20ºC regimes
tended towards those at 30ºC. Overall, at these conditions the
corrosion rates of 10 mm/year, 13,5 mm/year and 17 mm/year were
observed.
Abstract: Rehabilitation of dam components such as foundations, buttresses, spillways and overtopping protection require a wide range of construction and design methodologies. Geotechnical Engineering considerations play an important role in the design and construction of foundations of new dams. Much investigation is required to assess and evaluate the existing dams. The application of roller compacting concrete (RCC) has been accepted as a new method for constructing new dams or rehabilitating old ones. In the past 40 years there have been so many changes in the usage of RCC and now it is one of most satisfactory solutions of water and hydropower resource throughout the world. The considerations of rehabilitation and construction of dams might differ due to upstream reservoir and its influence on penetrating and dewatering of downstream, operations requirements and plant layout. One of the advantages of RCC is its rapid placement which allows the dam to be operated quickly. Unlike ordinary concrete it is a drier mix, and stiffs enough for compacting by vibratory rollers. This paper evaluates some different aspects of RCC and focuses on its preparation progress.
Abstract: The paper is focused on the identification of limiting
environmental factors of individual industrial floors on which newly
developed polymer protection and repair systems with the use of
secondary raw materials will be used. These mainly include floors
with extreme stresses and special requirements for materials used. In
relation to the environment of a particular industrial floor, it is
necessary to ensure, for example, chemical stability, resistance to
higher temperatures, resistance to higher mechanical stress, etc. for
developed materials, which is reflected in the demands for the
developed material systems. The paper describes individual
environments and, in relation to them, also requirements for
individual components of the developed materials and for the
developed materials as a whole.
Abstract: This paper presents effects of distilled water, seawater
and sustained bending strains of 30% and 50% ultimate strain at
room temperature, on the durability of unidirectional pultruded
carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates. In this study,
dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) was used to investigate the
synergic effects of the immersions and bending strains on the viscoelastic
properties of (CFRP) such as storage modulus, tan delta and
glass transition temperature. The study reveals that the storage
modulus and glass transition temperature increase while tan delta
peak decreases in the initial stage of both immersions due to the
progression of curing. The storage modulus and Tg subsequently
decrease and tan delta increases due to the matrix plasticization. The
blister induced damages in the unstrained seawater samples enhance
water uptake and cause more serious degradation of Tg and storage
modulus than in water immersion. Increasing sustained bending
decreases Tg and storage modulus in a long run for both immersions
due to resin matrix cracking and debonding. The combined effects of
immersions and strains are not clearly reflected due to the statistical
effects of DMA sample sizes and competing processes of molecular
reorientation and postcuring.
Abstract: Co metal supported on SiO2 and Al2O3 catalysts with
a metal loading varied from 30 of 70 wt.% were evaluated for
decomposition of methane to COx free hydrogen and carbon
nanomaterials. The catalytic runs were carried out from 550-800oC
under atmospheric pressure using fixed bed vertical flow reactor. The
fresh and spent catalysts were characterized by BET surface area
analyzer, XRD, SEM, TEM and TG analysis. The data showed that
50% Co/Al2O3 catalyst exhibited remarkable higher activity at 800oC
with respect to H2 production compared to rest of the catalysts.
However, the catalytic activity and durability was greatly declined at
higher temperature. The main reason for the catalytic inhibition of Co
containing SiO2 catalysts is the higher reduction temperature of
Co2SiO4. TEM images illustrate that the carbon materials with
various morphologies, carbon nanofibers (CNFs), helical-shaped
CNFs and branched CNFs depending on the catalyst composition and
reaction temperature were obtained.
Abstract: Planning of infrastructure and processes in logistic
center within the frame of various kinds of logistic hubs and
technological activities in them represent quite complex problem.
The main goal is to design appropriate layout, which enables to
realize expected operation on the desired levels. The simulation
software represents progressive contemporary experimental
technique, which can support complex processes of infrastructure
planning and all of activities on it. It means that simulation
experiments, reflecting various planned infrastructure variants,
investigate and verify their eligibilities in relation with corresponding
expected operation. The inducted approach enables to make qualified
decisions about infrastructure investments or measures, which derive
benefit from simulation-based verifications. The paper represents
simulation software for simulation infrastructural layout and
technological activities in marshalling yard, intermodal terminal,
warehouse and combination between them as the parts of logistic
center.
Abstract: Diminished antioxidant defense or increased
production of reactive oxygen species in the biological system can
result in oxidative stress which may lead to various
neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
Microglial activation also contributes to the progression of AD by
producing several proinflammatory cytokines, nitric oxide (NO) and
prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Oxidative stress and inflammation have
been reported to be possible pathophysiological mechanisms
underlying AD. In addition, the cholinergic hypothesis postulates that
memory impairment in patient with AD is also associated with the
deficit of cholinergic function in the brain. Although a number of
drugs have been approved for the treatment of AD, most of these
synthetic drugs have diverse side effects and yield relatively modest
benefits. Marine algae have great potential in pharmaceutical and
biomedical applications as they are valuable sources of bioactive
properties such as anticoagulation, antimicrobial, antioxidative,
anticancer and anti-inflammatory. Hence, this study aimed to provide
an overview of the properties of Malaysian seaweeds (Padina
australis, Sargassum polycystum and Caulerpa racemosa) in

Abstract: The implementation of e-assessment as tool to support
the process of teaching and learning in university has become a
popular technological means in universities. E-Assessment provides
many advantages to the users especially the flexibility in teaching and
learning. The e-assessment system has the capability to improve its
quality of delivering education. However, there still exists a
drawback in terms of security which limits the user acceptance of the
online learning system. Even though there are studies providing
solutions for identified security threats in e-learning usage, there is no
particular model which addresses the factors that influences the
acceptance of e-assessment system by lecturers from security
perspective. The aim of this study is to explore security aspects of eassessment
in regard to the acceptance of the technology. As a result
a conceptual model of secure acceptance of e-assessment is proposed.
Both human and security factors are considered in formulation of this
conceptual model. In order to increase understanding of critical issues
related to the subject of this study, interpretive approach involving
convergent mixed method research method is proposed to be used to
execute the research. This study will be useful in providing more
insightful understanding regarding the factors that influence the user
acceptance of e-assessment system from security perspective.
Abstract: Since columns are the most important elements of the
structures, failure of one column in a critical location can cause a
progressive collapse. In this respect, the repair and strengthening of
columns is a very important subject to reduce the building failure and
to keep the columns capacity. Twenty columns with different
parameters is tested and analysis. Eleven typical confined reinforced
concrete (RC) columns with different types of techniques are
assessment. And also, four confined concrete columns with plastic
tube (PVC) are tested with and with four paralleling tested of
unconfined plain concrete. The techniques of confined RC columns
are mortar strengthening, Steel rings strengthening, FRP
strengthening. Moreover, the technique of confined plain concrete
(PC) column is used PVC tubes. The columns are tested under
uniaxial compressive loads studied the effect of confinement on the
structural behavior of circular RC columns. Test results for each
column are presented in the form of crack patterns, stress-strain
curves. Test results show that confining of the RC columns using
different techniques of strengthening results significant improvement
of the general behavior of the columns and can used in construction.
And also, tested confined PC columns with PVC tubes results shown
that the confined PC with PVC tubes can be used in economical
building. The theoretical model for predicted column capacity is
founded with experimental factor depends on the confined techniques
used and the strain reduction.
Abstract: The progress of industry integrated circuits in recent
years has been pushed by continuous miniaturization of transistors.
With the reduction of dimensions of components at 0.1 micron and
below, new physical effects come into play as the standard simulators
of two dimensions (2D) do not consider. In fact the third dimension
comes into play because the transverse and longitudinal dimensions
of the components are of the same order of magnitude. To describe
the operation of such components with greater fidelity, we must
refine simulation tools and adapted to take into account these
phenomena. After an analytical study of the static characteristics of
the component, according to the different operating modes, a
numerical simulation is performed of field-effect transistor with
submicron gate MESFET GaInP. The influence of the dimensions of
the gate length is studied. The results are used to determine the
optimal geometric and physical parameters of the component for their
specific applications and uses.
Abstract: The present work aims to throw light on the effects of
arcing in air on the surface state of contact pastilles made of silvernickel
Ag-Ni (60/40). Also, the photoelectric emission from these
electrical contacts has been investigated in the spectral range of 196-
256 nm. In order to study the effects of arcing on the EWF, the
metallic samples were subjected to electrical arcs in air, at
atmospheric pressure and room temperature, after that, they have
been introduced into the vacuum chamber of an experimental UHV
set-up for EWF measurements. Both Fowler method of isothermal
curves and linearized Fowler plots were used for the measurement of
the EWF by the photoelectric effect.
It has been found that the EWF varies with the number of applied
arcs. Thus, after 500 arcs in air, the observed EWF increasing is
probably due to progressive inclusion of oxide on alloy surface.
Microscopic examination is necessary to get better understandings on
EWF of silver alloys, for both virgin and arced electrical contacts.
Abstract: The final energy use can be divided mainly in four sectors: commercial, industrial, residential, and transportation. The trend in final energy consumption by sector plays as a most straightforward way to provide a wide indication of progress for reducing energy consumption and associated environmental impacts by different end use sectors. The average share of end use energy for residential sector in the world was nearly 20% until 2011, in Germany a higher proportion is between 25% and 30%. However, it remains less studied than energy use in other three sectors as well its impacts on climate and environment. The reason for this involves a wide range of fields, including the diversity of residential construction like different housing building design and materials, living or energy using behavioral patterns, climatic condition and variation as well other social obstacles, market trend potential and financial support from government.

Abstract: Mammography has been one of the most reliable
methods for early detection of breast cancer. There are different
lesions which are breast cancer characteristic such as
microcalcifications, masses, architectural distortions and bilateral
asymmetry. One of the major challenges of analysing digital
mammogram is how to extract efficient features from it for accurate
cancer classification. In this paper we proposed a hybrid feature
extraction method to detect and classify all four signs of breast
cancer. The proposed method is based on multiscale surrounding
region dependence method, Gabor filters, multi fractal analysis,
directional and morphological analysis. The extracted features are
input to self adaptive resource allocation network (SRAN) classifier
for classification. The validity of our approach is extensively
demonstrated using the two benchmark data sets Mammographic
Image Analysis Society (MIAS) and Digital Database for Screening
Mammograph (DDSM) and the results have been proved to be
progressive.
Abstract: Laser beam welding is an important joining technique
for Titanium/Aluminum thin sheet alloys with their increasing
applications in aerospace, aircraft, automotive, electronics and other
industries. In this paper the research and progress in laser welding of
Ti/Al thin sheets are critically reviewed from different perspectives.
Some important aspects such as microstructure, metallurgical defects
and mechanical properties in weldments are discussed. Also the
recent progress in laser welding of Ti/Al dissimilar thin sheets to
provide a basis for further research work is reported.
Abstract: Asphaltic concrete for pavement construction in India
are produced by using crushed stone, gravels etc. as aggregate. In
north-Eastern region of India, there is a scarcity of stone aggregate.
Therefore the road engineers are always in search of an optional
material as aggregate which can replace the regularly used material.
The purpose of this work was to evaluate the utilization of
substandard or marginal aggregates in flexible pavement
construction. The investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effects
of using lower quality aggregates such as over burnt brick aggregate
on the preparation of asphalt concrete for flexible pavements. The
scope of this work included a review of available literature and
existing data, a laboratory evaluation organized to determine the
effects of marginal aggregates and potential techniques to upgrade
these substandard materials, and a laboratory evaluation of these
upgraded marginal aggregate asphalt mixtures. Over burnt brick
aggregates are water susceptible and can leads to moisture damage.
Moisture damage is the progressive loss of functionality of the
material owing to loss of the adhesion bond between the asphalt
binder and the aggregate surface. Hence zycosoil as an anti striping
additive were evaluated in this study. This study summarizes the
results of the laboratory evaluation carried out to investigate the
properties of asphalt concrete prepared with zycosoil modified over
burnt brick aggregate. Marshall specimen were prepared with stone
aggregate, zycosoil modified stone aggregate, over burnt brick
aggregate and zycosoil modified over burnt brick aggregate. Results
show that addition of zycosoil with stone aggregate increased
stability by 6% and addition of zycosoil with over burnt brick
aggregate increased stability by 30%.
