Abstract: Present paper enumerates highlights of seasonal
variation in floristic composition and ecological strategies for the
management of ‘Gujar Tal’ at Jaunpur in tropical semi-arid region of
eastern U.P. (India). Total composition of macrophytes recorded was
47 from 26 families with maximum 6 plant species of Cyperaceae
from April, 2012 to March, 2013 at certain periodic intervals.
Maximum number of plants (39) was present during winter followed
by (37) rainy and (27) summer seasons. The distribution pattern
depicted that maximum number of plants (27) was of marshy and
swampy habitats usually transitional between land and water.
Abstract: Coastal zone combines terrestrial, marine and atmospheric factors and gives rise to unique landforms that play an important role in long-term sustainability of the hinterland and economy of maritime nations. World over, efforts have been put forth to understand plants of the seacoasts. In India also, plants of several geographical entities have been well documented, but works devoted to plant communities of the vast tropical coast of India and its States are still insufficient. Therefore, an inventory of plants flourishing in a stretch of ~450km of the Coastal Regulatory Zone I encompassing a total of 84 villages in 6 revenue Districts of northern Andhra Pradesh (15o42’06”N, 80o51’03”E to 19o05’51”N, 84o47’44”E) along Bay of Bengal was carried out. The study revealed presence of a total of 364 species belonging to 225 genera under 71 families. In addition to inventory, zonation pattern, ethnobotany, and certain interesting ecological facts are included.
Abstract: In order to compare vertical stratification, floristic composition, and woody species diversity of subtropical evergreen broadleaf forests between the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan, and South China, tree censuses in a 400 m2 plot in Ishigaki Island and a 1225 m2 plot in Dinghushan Nature Reserve were performed. Both of the subtropical forests consisted of five vertical strata. The floristic composition of the Ishigaki forest was quite different from that of the Dinghushan forest in terms of similarity on a species level (Kuno-s similarity index r0 = 0.05). The values of Shannon-s index H' and Pielou-s index J ' tended to increase from the bottom stratum upward in both forests, except H' for the top stratum in the Ishigaki forest and the upper two strata in the Dinghushan forest. The woody species diversity in the Dinghushan forest (H'= 3.01 bit) was much lower than that in the Ishigaki forest (H'= 4.36 bit).
Abstract: In order to study floristic and molecular classification
of common wild wheat (Triticum boeoticum Boiss.), an analysis was
conducted on populations of the Triticum boeoticum collected from
different regions of Iran. Considering all floristic compositions of
habitats, six floristic groups (syntaxa) within the populations were
identified. A high level of variation of T. boeoticum also detected
using SSR markers. Our results showed that molecular method
confirmed the grouping of floristic method. In other word, the results
from our study indicate that floristic classification are still useful,
efficient, and economic tools for characterizing the amount and
distribution of genetic variation in natural populations of T.
boeoticum. Nevertheless, molecular markers appear as useful and
complementary techniques for identification and for evaluation of
genetic diversity in studied populations.
