Abstract: The main hypothesis of the dynamics of solid phase microextraction (SPME) is that steady-state mass transfer is respected throughout the SPME extraction process. It considers steady-state diffusion is established in the two phases and fast exchange of the analyte at the solid phase film/water interface. An improved model is proposed in this paper to handle with the situation when the analyte (atrazine) is in contact with colloid suspensions (carboxylate latex in aqueous solution). A mathematical solution is obtained by substituting the diffusion coefficient by the mean of diffusion coefficient between analyte and carboxylate latex, and also thickness layer by the mean thickness in aqueous solution. This solution provides an equation relating the extracted amount of the analyte to the extraction a little more complicated than previous models. It also gives a better description of experimental observations. Moreover, the rate constant of analyte obtained is in satisfactory agreement with that obtained from the initial curve fitting.
Abstract: This paper presents an intelligent tuning method of
microwave filter based on complex neural network and improved
space mapping. The tuning process consists of two stages: the initial
tuning and the fine tuning. At the beginning of the tuning, the return
loss of the filter is transferred to the passband via the error of phase.
During the fine tuning, the phase shift caused by the transmission line
and the higher order mode is removed by the curve fitting. Then, an
Cauchy method based on the admittance parameter (Y-parameter) is
used to extract the coupling matrix. The influence of the resonant
cavity loss is eliminated during the parameter extraction process. By
using processed data pairs (the amount of screw variation and the
variation of the coupling matrix), a tuning model is established by
the complex neural network. In view of the improved space mapping
algorithm, the mapping relationship between the actual model and
the ideal model is established, and the amplitude and direction of the
tuning is constantly updated. Finally, the tuning experiment of the
eight order coaxial cavity filter shows that the proposed method has
a good effect in tuning time and tuning precision.
Abstract: This paper describes a new approach which can be
used to interpret the experimental creep deformation data obtained
from miniaturized thin plate bending specimen test to the
corresponding uniaxial data based on an inversed application of the
reference stress method. The geometry of the thin plate is fully
defined by the span of the support, l, the width, b, and the thickness,
d. Firstly, analytical solutions for the steady-state, load-line creep
deformation rate of the thin plates for a Norton’s power law under
plane stress (b→0) and plane strain (b→∞) conditions were obtained,
from which it can be seen that the load-line deformation rate of the
thin plate under plane-stress conditions is much higher than that
under the plane-strain conditions. Since analytical solution is not
available for the plates with random b-values, finite element (FE)
analyses are used to obtain the solutions. Based on the FE results
obtained for various b/l ratios and creep exponent, n, as well as the
analytical solutions under plane stress and plane strain conditions, an
approximate, numerical solutions for the deformation rate are
obtained by curve fitting. Using these solutions, a reference stress
method is utilised to establish the conversion relationships between
the applied load and the equivalent uniaxial stress and between the
creep deformations of thin plate and the equivalent uniaxial creep
strains. Finally, the accuracy of the empirical solution was assessed
by using a set of “theoretical” experimental data.
Abstract: Gluconic acid is one of interesting chemical products
in industries such as detergents, leather, photographic, textile, and
especially in food and pharmaceutical industries. Fermentation is an
advantageous process to produce gluconic acid. Mathematical
modeling is important in the design and operation of fermentation
process. In fact, kinetic data must be available for modeling. The
kinetic parameters of gluconic acid production by Aspergillus niger
in batch culture was studied in this research at initial substrate
concentration of 150, 200 and 250 g/l. The kinetic models used were
logistic equation for growth, Luedeking-Piret equation for gluconic
acid formation, and Luedeking-Piret-like equation for glucose
consumption. The Kinetic parameters in the model were obtained by
minimizing non linear least squares curve fitting.
Abstract: In this paper, a simple active contour based visual
tracking algorithm is presented for outdoor AGV application which is
currently under development at the USM robotic research group
(URRG) lab. The presented algorithm is computationally low cost
and able to track road boundaries in an image sequence and can
easily be implemented on available low cost hardware. The proposed
algorithm used an active shape modeling using the B-spline
deformable template and recursive curve fitting method to track the
current orientation of the road.
Abstract: This paper present an effective method to accurately reconstruct and measure the 3D curve edges of small industrial parts based on stereo vision. To effectively fit the curve of the measured parts using a series of line segments in the images, a strategy from coarse to fine is employed based on multi-scale curve fitting. After reconstructing the 3D curve of a hole through a curved surface, its axis is adjusted so that it is parallel to the Z axis with least squares error and the dimensions of the hole can be calculated on the XY plane easily. Experimental results show that the presented method can accurately measure the dimensions of round holes through a curved surface.
Abstract: The cardiovascular system has become the most
important subject of clinical research, particularly measurement of
arterial blood flow. Therefore correct determination of arterial
diameter is crucial. We propose a novel, semi-automatic method for
artery lumen detection. The method is based on Gaussian probability
function. Usability of our proposed method was assessed by
analyzing ultrasound B-mode CFA video sequences acquired from
eleven healthy volunteers. The correlation coefficient between the
manual and semi-automatic measurement of arterial diameter was
0.996. Our proposed method for detecting artery boundary is novel
and accurate enough for the measurement of artery diameter.
