Abstract: With the proliferation of the mobile device
technologies, mobile learning can be used to complement and
improve traditional learning problems. Both students and teachers
need a proper and handy system to monitor and keep track the
performance of the students. This paper presents an implementation
of M-learning for primary school in Malaysia by using an open
source technology. It focuses on learning mathematics using
handheld devices for primary schools- students aged 11 and 12 years
old. Main users for this system include students, teachers and the
administrator. This application suggests a new mobile learning
environment with mobile graph for tracking the students- progress
and performance. The purpose of this system is not to replace
traditional classroom but to complement the learning process. In a
testing conducted, students who used this system performed better in
their examination.
Abstract: The increasing recognition of the need for education to be closely aligned with team playing, project based learning and problem solving approaches has increase the interest in collaborative learning among university and college instructors. Using online collaboration learning in learning can enhance the outcome and achievement of students as well as improve their communication, critical thinking and personnel skills. The current research aims at examining the effect of OCL on the student's achievement at Kingdom of Bahrain. Numbers of objectives were set to achieve the aim of the research include: investigating the current situation regarding the collaborative learning and OCL at the Kingdom of Bahrain by identifying the advantages and effectiveness of OCL as a learning tool over traditional learning, examining the factors that affect OCL as well as examining the impact of OCL on the student's achievement. To achieve these objectives, quantitative method was adopted. Two hundred and thirty one questionnaires were distributed to students in different local and private universities at Kingdom of Bahrain. The findings of the research show that most of the students prefer to use FTFCL in learning and that OCL is already adopted in some universities especially in University of Bahrain. Moreover, the most factors affecting the adopted OCL are perceived readiness, and guidance and support.
Abstract: During recent years, the traditional learning
approaches have undergone fundamental changes due to the
emergence of new technologies such as multimedia, hypermedia and
telecommunication. E-learning is a modern world phenomenon that
has come into existence in the information age and in a knowledgebased
society. E-learning has developed significantly within a short
period of time. Thus it is of a great significant to secure information,
allow a confident access and prevent unauthorized accesses. Making
use of individuals- physiologic or behavioral (biometric) properties is
a confident method to make the information secure. Among the
biometrics, fingerprint is more acceptable and most countries use it as
an efficient methods of identification. This article provides a new
method to compare the fingerprint comparison by pattern recognition
and image processing techniques. To verify fingerprint, the shortest
distance method is used together with perceptronic multilayer neural
network functioning based on minutiae. This method is highly
accurate in the extraction of minutiae and it accelerates comparisons
due to elimination of false minutiae and is more reliable compared
with methods that merely use directional images.
Abstract: Recent developments in information and
communication technologies (ICT) have created excellent conditions
for profoundly enhancing the traditional learning and teaching
practices. New modes of teaching in higher education subjects can
profoundly enhance ones ability to proactively constructing his or her
personal learning universe. These developments have contributed to
digital learning environments becoming widely available and
accessible. In addition, there is a trend towards enlargement and
specialization in higher education in Europe. With as a result that
existing Master of Science (MSc) programmes are merged or new
programmes have been established that are offered as joint MSc
programmes to students. In these joint MSc programmes, the need for
(common) digital learning environments capable of surmounting the
barriers of time and location has become evident. This paper
discusses the past and ongoing efforts to establish such common
digital learning environments in two joint MSc programmes in
Europe and discusses the way technology-based learning
environments affect the traditional way of learning.
Abstract: Mobile learning (M-learning) is the current technology that is becoming more popular. It uses the current mobile and wireless computing technology to complement the effectiveness of traditional learning process. The objective of this paper is presents a survey from 90 undergraduate students of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), to identify the students- perception on Mlearning. From the results, the students are willing to use M-learning. The acceptance level of the students is high, and the results obtained revealed that the respondents almost accept M-learning as one method of teaching and learning process and also able to improve the educational efficiency by complementing traditional learning in UTP.
