Abstract: Kinematic data wisely correlate vector quantities in
space to scalar parameters in time to assess the degree of symmetry
between the intact limb and the amputated limb with respect to a
normal model derived from the gait of control group participants.
Furthermore, these particular data allow a doctor to preliminarily
evaluate the usefulness of a certain rehabilitation therapy.
Kinetic curves allow the analysis of ground reaction forces (GRFs)
to assess the appropriateness of human motion.
Electromyography (EMG) allows the analysis of the fundamental
lower limb force contributions to quantify the level of gait
asymmetry. However, the use of this technological tool is expensive
and requires patient’s hospitalization. This research work suggests
overcoming the above limitations by applying artificial neural
networks.
Abstract: For Common R or R-L load to apply arbitrary voltage,
the bridge traditional inverters don’t have any difficulties by PWM
method. However for driving some piezoelectric actuator, arbitrary
voltage not a pulse but a steady voltage should be applied.
Piezoelectric load is considered as R-C load and its voltage does not
decrease even though the applied voltage decreases. Therefore it needs
some special inverter with circuit that can discharge the capacitive
energy. Especially for unidirectional arbitrary voltage driving like as
sine wave, it becomes more difficult problem. In this paper, a charge
and discharge circuit for unidirectional arbitrary voltage driving for
piezoelectric actuator is proposed. The circuit has charging and
discharging switches for increasing and decreasing output voltage.
With the proposed simple circuit, the load voltage can have any
unidirectional level with tens of bandwidth because the load voltage
can be adjusted by switching the charging and discharging switch
appropriately. The appropriateness is proved from the simulation of
the proposed circuit.
Abstract: The necessity of grading and sequencing tasks has led to the development of different criteria in this regard. However, appropriateness of these criteria in different situations is less discussed. This paper attempts to shed more light on the priority of different criteria in relation with different factors including learners, teachers, educational, and cultural factors.
Abstract: The results of the study on the project evaluation to
develop the competencies, capabilities, and skills in repairing
computers of people in Jompluak Local Municipality, Bang Khonthi
District, Samut Songkram Province showed that the overall result
was good (4.33). When considering on each aspect, it was found that
the highest one was on process evaluation (4.60) followed by product
evaluation (4.50) and the least one was on feeding factor (3.97).
When considering in details, it was found that: 1) the context aspect
was high (4.23) with the highest item on the arrangement of the
training situation (4.67) followed by the appropriateness of the target
(4.30) and the least aspect was on the project cooperation (3.73). 2)
The evaluation of average overall primary factor or feeding factor
showed high value (4.23) while the highest aspect was on the
capability of the trainers (4.47) followed by the suitable venue (4.33)
while the least aspect was on the insufficient budget (3.47). 3) The
average result of process evaluation was very high (4.60). The
highest aspect was on the follow-op supervision (4.70) followed by
responsibility of each project staffs (4.50) while the least aspect was
on the present situation and the problems of the community (4.40). 4)
The overall result of the product evaluation was very high (4.50). The
highest aspect was on the diversity of the activities and the
community integration (4.67) followed by project target achievement
(4.63) while the least aspect was on continuation and regularity of the
activities (4.33). The trainees reported high satisfaction on the project
management at very high level (43.33%) while 40% reported high
level and 16.67% reported moderate level. Suggestions for the project
were on the additional number of the computer sets (37.78%)
followed by longer training period especially on computer skills
(43.48%).

However, when question answering systems began to be more domains specific, evaluation becomes a real issue. This is especially true when understanding and reasoning is required to cater for a wider variety of questions and at the same time achieve higher quality responses The research in this paper discusses the inappropriateness of the existing measure for response quality evaluation and in a later part, the call for new standard measures and the related considerations are brought forward. As a short-term solution for evaluating response quality of heterogeneous systems, and to demonstrate the challenges in evaluating systems of different nature, this research presents a black-box approach using observation, classification scheme and a scoring mechanism to assess and rank three example systems (i.e. AnswerBus, START and NaLURI).
Abstract: The recommendation of the committee on corporate
governance for public companies in Nigeria, that the position of the
CEO be separated from board chair has generated serious debate
among scholars and practitioners. They have questioned the
appropriateness of implementing corporate governance model that is
based on Anglo-Saxon agency problem characterized by dispersed
ownership structure; where markets for corporate control, legal
regulation, and contractual incentives are the key governance
mechanisms. This paper strives to resolve the argument by adopting
an institutional perspective in testing the agency theory on board
duality. The study developed a theoretical and empirical model to
better understand how ownership structure influences agency conflict
and how such affects firm performance. Hence, the study examines
the relationship between CEO duality and firm performance using
two institutional ownership structures – dispersed ownership and
concentrated ownership structures. The empirical results show that
CEO duality is negatively correlated with firm performance in
Nigeria irrespective of the firm-s ownership structure. The findings
give credence to the recommendation of the Peterside Commission
on the need to separate the position of CEO from board chair.

Abstract: Resource discovery is one of the chief services of a grid. A new approach to discover the provenances in grid through learning automata has been propounded in this article. The objective of the aforementioned resource-discovery service is to select the resource based upon the user-s applications and the mercantile yardsticks that is to say opting for an originator which can accomplish the user-s tasks in the most economic manner. This novel service is submitted in two phases. We proffered an applicationbased categorization by means of an intelligent nerve-prone plexus. The user in question sets his or her application as the input vector of the nerve-prone nexus. The output vector of the aforesaid network limns the appropriateness of any one of the resource for the presented executive procedure. The most scrimping option out of those put forward in the previous stage which can be coped with to fulfill the task in question is picked out. Te resource choice is carried out by means of the presented algorithm based upon the learning automata.
Abstract: The proposed Multimedia Pronunciation Learning
Management System (MPLMS) in this study is a technology with
profound potential for inducing improvement in pronunciation
learning. The MPLMS optimizes the digitised phonetic symbols with
the integration of text, sound and mouth movement video. The
components are designed and developed in an online management
system which turns the web to a dynamic user-centric collection of
consistent and timely information for quality sustainable learning.
The aim of this study is to design and develop the MPLMS which
serves as an innovative tool to improve English pronunciation. This
paper discusses the iterative methodology and the three-phase Alessi
and Trollip model in the development of MPLMS. To align with the
flexibility of the development of educational software, the iterative
approach comprises plan, design, develop, evaluate and implement is
followed. To ensure the instructional appropriateness of MPLMS, the
instructional system design (ISD) model of Alessi and Trollip serves
as a platform to guide the important instructional factors and process.
It is expected that the results of future empirical research will support
the efficacy of MPLMS and its place as the premier pronunciation
learning system.
Abstract: The optimal design of PI controller for Automatic Generation Control in two area is presented in this paper. The concept of Dual mode control is applied in the PI controller, such that the proportional mode is made active when the rate of change of the error is sufficiently larger than a specified limit otherwise switched to the integral mode. A digital simulation is used in conjunction with the Hooke-Jeeve’s optimization technique to determine the optimum parameters (individual gain of proportional and integral controller) of the PI controller. Integrated Square of the Error (ISE), Integrated Time multiplied by Absolute Error(ITAE) , and Integrated Absolute Error(IAE) performance indices are considered to measure the appropriateness of the designed controller. The proposed controller are tested for a two area single nonreheat thermal system considering the practical aspect of the problem such as Deadband and Generation Rate Constraint(GRC). Simulation results show that dual mode with optimized values of the gains improved the control performance than the commonly used Variable Structure .
Abstract: In this paper, we apply and compare two generalized estimating equation approaches to the analysis of car breakdowns data in Mauritius. Number of breakdowns experienced by a machinery is a highly under-dispersed count random variable and its value can be attributed to the factors related to the mechanical input and output of that machinery. Analyzing such under-dispersed count observation as a function of the explanatory factors has been a challenging problem. In this paper, we aim at estimating the effects of various factors on the number of breakdowns experienced by a passenger car based on a study performed in Mauritius over a year. We remark that the number of passenger car breakdowns is highly under-dispersed. These data are therefore modelled and analyzed using Com-Poisson regression model. We use the two types of quasi-likelihood estimation approaches to estimate the parameters of the model: marginal and joint generalized quasi-likelihood estimating equation approaches. Under-dispersion parameter is estimated to be around 2.14 justifying the appropriateness of Com-Poisson distribution in modelling underdispersed count responses recorded in this study.
Abstract: The running logs of a process hold valuable
information about its executed activity behavior and generated activity
logic structure. Theses informative logs can be extracted, analyzed and
utilized to improve the efficiencies of the process's execution and
conduction. One of the techniques used to accomplish the process
improvement is called as process mining. To mine similar processes is
such an improvement mission in process mining. Rather than directly
mining similar processes using a single comparing coefficient or a
complicate fitness function, this paper presents a simplified heuristic
process mining algorithm with two similarity comparisons that are
able to relatively conform the activity logic sequences (traces) of
mining processes with those of a normalized (regularized) one. The
relative process conformance is to find which of the mining processes
match the required activity sequences and relationships, further for
necessary and sufficient applications of the mined processes to process
improvements. One similarity presented is defined by the relationships
in terms of the number of similar activity sequences existing in
different processes; another similarity expresses the degree of the
similar (identical) activity sequences among the conforming processes.
Since these two similarities are with respect to certain typical behavior
(activity sequences) occurred in an entire process, the common
problems, such as the inappropriateness of an absolute comparison and
the incapability of an intrinsic information elicitation, which are often
appeared in other process conforming techniques, can be solved by the
relative process comparison presented in this paper. To demonstrate
the potentiality of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is
illustrated.

Abstract: This paper reviews various approaches that have been
used for the modeling and simulation of large-scale engineering
systems and determines their appropriateness in the development of a
RICS modeling and simulation tool. Bond graphs, linear graphs,
block diagrams, differential and difference equations, modeling
languages, cellular automata and agents are reviewed. This tool
should be based on linear graph representation and supports symbolic
programming, functional programming, the development of noncausal
models and the incorporation of decentralized approaches.
Abstract: The objective of this research was to find the
relationship between auspicious meaning in eastern wisdom and the
interpretation as a guideline for the design and development of
community souvenirs. The sample group included 400 customers in
Bangkok who used to buy community souvenir products. The
information was applied to design the souvenirs which were
considered for the appropriateness by 5 design specialists. The data
were analyzed to find frequency, percentage, and SD with the results
as follows. 1) The best factor referring to the auspicious meaning is
color. The application of auspicious meaning can make the value
added to the product and bring the fortune to the receivers. 2) The
effectiveness of the auspicious meaning integration on the design of
community souvenir product was in high level. When considering in
each aspect, it was found that the interpretation aspect was in high
level, the congruency of the auspicious meaning and the utility of the
product was in high level. The attractiveness and the good design
were in very high level while the potential of the value added in the
product design was in high level. The suitable application to the
design of community souvenir product was in high level.
Abstract: A large section of the society in Urban India is unable
to afford a basic dwelling unit. Housing shortage due to the rising unafforability makes it logical to consider alternative technologies more seriously for their application How far do these alternative
technologies match up with the conventional techniques? How do these integrate with the present-day need for urban amenities and
facilities? Are the owners of bamboo dwellings, for instance, a part of
the mainstream housing sector, having the same rights and privileges
as those enjoyed by other property owners? Will they have access to loans for building, improving, renovating or repairing their
dwellings? Why do we still hesitate to build a bamboo house for ourselves? Is our policy framework and political resolve in place, to
welcome such alternative technologies? It is time we found these answers, in order to explore the reasons for large-scale nonacceptance,
of a technology proven for its worthiness.
