Abstract: Design should be viewed concurrently by three ways
as transformation, flow and value generation. An innovative approach
to solve design – related problems is described as the integrated
product - process design. As a foundation for a formal framework
consisting of organizing principles and techniques, Work Structuring
has been developed to guide efforts in the integration that enhances
the development of operation and process design in alignment with
product design.
Vietnam construction projects are facing many delays, and cost
overruns caused mostly by design related problems. A better design
management that integrates product and process design could resolve
these problems. A questionnaire survey and in – depth interviews
were used to investigate the feasibility of applying Work Structuring
to construction projects in Vietnam.
The purpose of this paper is to present the research results and to
illustrate the possible problems and potential solutions when Work
Structuring is implemented to construction projects in Vietnam.
Abstract: The National Bridge Inventory (NBI) includes more
than 600,000 bridges within the United States of America.
Prestressed concrete girder bridges represent one of the most widely
used bridge systems. The majority of these girder bridges were
constructed using 0.5 and 0.6 inch diameter strands. The main
impediments to using larger strand diameters are: 1) lack of prestress
bed capacities, 2) lack of structural knowledge regarding the transfer
and development length of larger strands, and 3) the possibility of
developing wider end zone cracks upon strand release.
This paper presents a study about using 0.7 inch strands in girder
fabrication. Transfer and development length were evaluated, and
girders were fabricated using 0.7 inch strands at different spacings.
Results showed that 0.7 inch strands can be used at 2.0 inch spacing
without violating the AASHTO LRFD Specifications, while attaining
superior performance in shear and flexure.
Abstract: Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a statistical
learning tool developed to a more complex concept of
structural risk minimization (SRM). In this paper, SVM is
applied to signal detection in communication systems in the
presence of channel noise in various environments in the form
of Rayleigh fading, additive white Gaussian background noise
(AWGN), and interference noise generalized as additive color
Gaussian noise (ACGN). The structure and performance of
SVM in terms of the bit error rate (BER) metric is derived and
simulated for these advanced stochastic noise models and the
computational complexity of the implementation, in terms of
average computational time per bit, is also presented. The
performance of SVM is then compared to conventional binary
signaling optimal model-based detector driven by binary
phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation. We show that the
SVM performance is superior to that of conventional matched
filter-, innovation filter-, and Wiener filter-driven detectors,
even in the presence of random Doppler carrier deviation,
especially for low SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) ranges. For
large SNR, the performance of the SVM was similar to that of
the classical detectors. However, the convergence between
SVM and maximum likelihood detection occurred at a higher
SNR as the noise environment became more hostile.
Abstract: This paper presents a new approach for automatic
document categorization. Exploiting the logical structure of the
document, our approach assigns a HTML document to one or more
categories (thesis, paper, call for papers, email, ...). Using a set of
training documents, our approach generates a set of rules used to
categorize new documents. The approach flexibility is carried out
with rule weight association representing your importance in the
discrimination between possible categories. This weight is
dynamically modified at each new document categorization. The
experimentation of the proposed approach provides satisfactory
results.
Abstract: Enzymatic hydrolysis of starch from natural sources
finds potential application in commercial production of alcoholic
beverage and bioethanol. In this study the effect of starch
concentration, temperature, time and enzyme concentration were
studied and optimized for hydrolysis of cassava (Manihot esculenta)
starch powder (of mesh 80/120) into glucose syrup by immobilized
(using Polyacrylamide gel) a-amylase using central composite
design. The experimental result on enzymatic hydrolysis of cassava
starch was subjected to multiple linear regression analysis using
MINITAB 14 software. Positive linear effect of starch concentration,
enzyme concentration and time was observed on hydrolysis of
cassava starch by a-amylase. The statistical significance of the model
was validated by F-test for analysis of variance (p < 0.01). The
optimum value of starch concentration temperature, time and enzyme
concentration were found to be 4.5% (w/v), 45oC, 150 min, and 1%
(w/v) enzyme. The maximum glucose yield at optimum condition
was 5.17 mg/mL.
Abstract: This research focus on developing a new segmentation method for improving forecasting model which is call trend based segmentation method (TBSM). Generally, the piece-wise linear representation (PLR) can finds some of pair of trading points is well for time series data, but in the complicated stock environment it is not well for stock forecasting because of the stock has more trends of trading. If we consider the trends of trading in stock price for the trading signal which it will improve the precision of forecasting model. Therefore, a TBSM with SVR model used to detect the trading points for various stocks of Taiwanese and America under different trend tendencies. The experimental results show our trading system is more profitable and can be implemented in real time of stock market
Abstract: A wrist-band type biosignal measurement system and its data transfer through human body communication (HBC) were investigated. An HBC method based on pulses of ultra-wide band instead of using frequency or amplitude modulations was studied and implemented since the system became very compact and it was more suited for personal or mobile health monitoring. Our system measured photo-plethysmogram (PPG) and measured PPG signals were transmitted through a finger to a monitoring PC system. The device was compact and low-power consuming. HBC communication has very strongsecurity measures since it does not use wireless network.Furthermore, biosignal monitoring system becomes handy because it does not need to have wire connections.
Abstract: With the increasing number of on-chip components and the critical requirement for processing power, Chip Multiprocessor (CMP) has gained wide acceptance in both academia and industry during the last decade. However, the conventional bus-based onchip communication schemes suffer from very high communication delay and low scalability in large scale systems. Network-on-Chip (NoC) has been proposed to solve the bottleneck of parallel onchip communications by applying different network topologies which separate the communication phase from the computation phase. Observing that the memory bandwidth of the communication between on-chip components and off-chip memory has become a critical problem even in NoC based systems, in this paper, we propose a novel 3D NoC with on-chip Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) in which different layers are dedicated to different functionalities such as processors, cache or memory. Results show that, by using our proposed architecture, average link utilization has reduced by 10.25% for SPLASH-2 workloads. Our proposed design costs 1.12% less execution cycles than the traditional design on average.

Abstract: In this paper we propose a novel RF LDMOS structure which employs a thin strained silicon layer at the top of the channel and the N-Drift region. The strain is induced by a relaxed Si0.8 Ge0.2 layer which is on top of a compositionally graded SiGe buffer. We explain the underlying physics of the device and compare the proposed device with a conventional LDMOS in terms of energy band diagram and carrier concentration. Numerical simulations of the proposed strained silicon laterally diffused MOS using a 2 dimensional device simulator indicate improvements in saturation and linear transconductance, current drivability, cut off frequency and on resistance. These improvements are however accompanied with a suppression in the break down voltage.
Abstract: Using of natural lighting has come into prominence in
constructed buildings, especially in last ten years, under scope of
energy efficiency. Natural lighting methods are one of the methods
that aim to take advantage of day light in maximum level and
decrease using of artificial lighting. Increasing of day light amount in
buildings by using suitable methods will give optimum result in
terms of comfort and energy saving when the daylight-artificial light
integration is ensured with a suitable control system. Using of natural
light in places that require lighting will ensure energy saving in great
extent. With this study, it is aimed to save energy used for purpose of
lighting. Under this scope, lighting of a scanning laboratory of a
hospital was realized by using a lighting automation containing
natural and artificial lighting. In natural lighting, light pipes were
used and in artificial lighting, dimmable power LED modules were
used. Necessity of lighting was followed with motion sensors. The
lighting automation containing natural and artificial light was ensured
with fuzzy logic control. At the scanning laboratory where this
application was realized, energy saving in lighting was obtained.

type cell in shipbuilding yard.
Abstract: The analysis of electromagnetic environment using
deterministic mathematical models is characterized by the
impossibility of analyzing a large number of interacting network
stations with a priori unknown parameters, and this is characteristic,
for example, of mobile wireless communication networks. One of the
tasks of the tools used in designing, planning and optimization of
mobile wireless network is to carry out simulation of electromagnetic
environment based on mathematical modelling methods, including
computer experiment, and to estimate its effect on radio
communication devices. This paper proposes the development of a
statistical model of electromagnetic environment of a mobile
wireless communication network by describing the parameters and
factors affecting it including the propagation channel and their
statistical models.
Abstract: This article presents a simple way to perform programmed voice commands for the interface with commercial Digital and Analogue Input/Output PCI cards, used in Robotics and Automation applications. Robots and Automation equipment can "listen" to voice commands and perform several different tasks, approaching to the human behavior, and improving the human- machine interfaces for the Automation Industry. Since most PCI Digital and Analogue Input/Output cards are sold with several DLLs included (for use with different programming languages), it is possible to add speech recognition capability, using a standard speech recognition engine, compatible with the programming languages used. It was created in this work a Visual Basic 6 (the world's most popular language) application, that listens to several voice commands, and is capable to communicate directly with several standard 128 Digital I/O PCI Cards, used to control complete Automation Systems, with up to (number of boards used) x 128 Sensors and/or Actuators.
Abstract: The study applied a combination of organisational learning models (Senge, 1994: Pedler, Burgoyne and Boydell, 1991) and later adopted fifteen organisational learning principles with one of the biggest energy providers in South East Asia. The purposes of the current study were to: a) investigate the company-s practices on fifteen organisational learning principles; b) explore the perceptions and expectations of its employees in relations to the principles; and c) compare the perceptions and expectations between management and non-management staff toward the fifteen factors. One hundred and ten employees responded on a designed questionnaire and the results indicated that the company was practicing activities that associated with organisational learning principles. Also, according to the T-test results, significant differences between management and non-management respondents were found. Research implications are also provided.
Abstract: We consider different types of aggregation operators
such as the heavy ordered weighted averaging (HOWA) operator and
the fuzzy ordered weighted averaging (FOWA) operator. We
introduce a new extension of the OWA operator called the fuzzy
heavy ordered weighted averaging (FHOWA) operator. The main
characteristic of this aggregation operator is that it deals with
uncertain information represented in the form of fuzzy numbers (FN)
in the HOWA operator. We develop the basic concepts of this
operator and study some of its properties. We also develop a wide
range of families of FHOWA operators such as the fuzzy push up
allocation, the fuzzy push down allocation, the fuzzy median
allocation and the fuzzy uniform allocation.
Abstract: Human computer interaction has progressed
considerably from the traditional modes of interaction. Vision based
interfaces are a revolutionary technology, allowing interaction
through human actions, gestures. Researchers have developed
numerous accurate techniques, however, with an exception to few
these techniques are not evaluated using standard HCI techniques. In
this paper we present a comprehensive framework to address this
issue. Our evaluation of a computer vision application shows that in
addition to the accuracy, it is vital to address human factors
Abstract: Cyber attacks pose a serious threat to all states. Therefore, states constantly seek for various methods to encounter those threats. In addition, recent changes in the nature of cyber attacks and their more complicated methods have created a new concept: active cyber defense (ACD). This article tries to answer firstly why ACD is important to NATO and find out the viewpoint of NATO towards ACD. Secondly, infrastructure protection is essential to cyber defense. Critical infrastructure protection with ACD means is even more important. It is assumed that by implementing active cyber defense, NATO may not only be able to repel the attacks but also be deterrent. Hence, the use of ACD has a direct positive effect in all international organizations’ future including NATO.
Abstract: Direction of Arrival estimation refers to defining a mathematical function called a pseudospectrum that gives an indication of the angle a signal is impinging on the antenna array. This estimation is an efficient method of improving the quality of service in a communication system by focusing the reception and transmission only in the estimated direction thereby increasing fidelity with a provision to suppress interferers. This improvement is largely dependent on the performance of the algorithm employed in the estimation. Many DOA algorithms exists amongst which are MUSIC, Root-MUSIC and ESPRIT. In this paper, performance of these three algorithms is analyzed in terms of complexity, accuracy as assessed and characterized by the CRLB and memory requirements in various environments and array sizes. It is found that the three algorithms are high resolution and dependent on the operating environment and the array size.
Abstract: The three steps of the standard one-way nested grid
for a regional scale of the third generation WAve Model Cycle 4
(WAMC4) is scrutinized. The model application is enabled to solve
the energy balance equation on a coarse resolution grid in order to
produce boundary conditions for a smaller area by the nested grid
technique. In the present study, the model takes a full advantage of the
fine resolution of wind fields in space and time produced by the available
U.S. Navy Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS)
model with 1 degree resolution. The nested grid application of the
model is developed in order to gradually increase the resolution from
the open ocean towards the South China Sea (SCS) and the Gulf of
Thailand (GoT) respectively. The model results were compared with
buoy observations at Ko Chang, Rayong and Huahin locations which
were obtained from the Seawatch project. In addition, the results were
also compared with Satun based weather station which was provided
from Department of Meteorology, Thailand. The data collected from
this station presented the significant wave height (Hs) reached 12.85
m. The results indicated that the tendency of the Hs from the model
in the spherical coordinate propagation with deep water condition in
the fine grid domain agreed well with the Hs from the observations.
