Abstract: Microbial oil was produced by soil isolated
oleaginous yeast YU5/2 in flask-batch fermentation. The yeast was
identified by molecular genetics technique based on sequence
analysis of the variable D1/D2 domain of the large subunit (26S)
ribosomal DNA and it was identified as Torulaspora globosa. T.
globosa YU5/2 supported maximum values of 0.520 g/L/d, 0.472 g
lipid/g cells, 4.16 g/L, and 0.156 g/L/d for volumetric lipid
production rate, and specific yield of lipid, lipid concentration, and
specific rate of lipid production respectively, when culture was
performed in nitrogen-limiting medium supplemented with 80g/L
glucose. Among the carbon sources tested, maximum cell yield
coefficient (YX/S, g/L), maximum specific yield of lipid (YP/X, g
lipid/g cells) and volumetric lipid production rate (QP, g/L/d) were
found of 0.728, 0.237, and 0.619, respectively, using sweet potato
tubers hydrolysates as carbon source.
Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to investigate thelong-run equilibrium and short-run dynamics of international housing prices when macroeconomic variables change. We apply the Pedroni’s, panel cointegration, using the unbalanced panel data analysis of 33 countries over the period from 1980Q1 to 2013Q1, to examine the relationships among house prices and macroeconomic variables. Our empirical results of panel data cointegration tests support the existence of a cointegration among these macroeconomic variables and house prices. Besides, the empirical results of panel DOLS further present that a 1% increase in economic activity, long-term interest rates, and construction costs cause house prices to respectively change 2.16%, -0.04%, and 0.22% in the long run.Furthermore, the increasing economic activity and the construction cost would cause strongerimpacts on the house prices for lower income countries than higher income countries. The results lead to the conclusion that policy of house prices growth can be regarded as economic growth for lower income countries. Finally, in America region, the coefficient of economic activity is the highest, which displays that increasing economic activity causes a faster rise in house prices there than in other regions. There are some special cases whereby the coefficients of interest rates are significantly positive in America and Asia regions.
Abstract: Response surface methodology with Box–Benhken (BB) design of experiment approach has been utilized to study the mechanism of interface slip damping in layered and jointed tack welded beams with varying surface roughness. The design utilizes the initial amplitude of excitation, tack length and surface roughness at the interfaces to develop the model for the logarithmic damping decrement of the layered and jointed welded structures. Statistically designed experiments have been performed to estimate the coefficients in the mathematical model, predict the response, and check the adequacy of the model. Comparison of predicted and experimental response values outside the design conditions have shown good correspondence, implying that empirical model derived from response surface approach can be effectively used to describe the mechanism of interface slip damping in layered and jointed tack welded structures.
Abstract: Due to some reasons, observed images are degraded which are mainly caused by noise. Recently image denoising using the wavelet transform has been attracting much attention. Waveletbased approach provides a particularly useful method for image denoising when the preservation of edges in the scene is of importance because the local adaptivity is based explicitly on the values of the wavelet detail coefficients. In this paper, we propose several methods of noise removal from degraded images with Gaussian noise by using adaptive wavelet threshold (Bayes Shrink, Modified Bayes Shrink and Normal Shrink). The proposed thresholds are simple and adaptive to each subband because the parameters required for estimating the threshold depend on subband data. Experimental results show that the proposed thresholds remove noise significantly and preserve the edges in the scene.

Abstract: Heart sound is an acoustic signal and many techniques
used nowadays for human recognition tasks borrow speech recognition
techniques. One popular choice for feature extraction of accoustic
signals is the Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) which
maps the signal onto a non-linear Mel-Scale that mimics the human
hearing. However the Mel-Scale is almost linear in the frequency
region of heart sounds and thus should produce similar results with
the standard cepstral coefficients (CC). In this paper, MFCC is
investigated to see if it produces superior results for PCG based
human identification system compared to CC. Results show that the
MFCC system is still superior to CC despite linear filter-banks in
the lower frequency range, giving up to 95% correct recognition rate
for MFCC and 90% for CC. Further experiments show that the high
recognition rate is due to the implementation of filter-banks and not
from Mel-Scaling.
Abstract: This paper study the behavior of the solution at the crack edges for an elliptical crack with developing cusps, Ω in the plane elasticity subjected to shear loading. The problem of finding the resulting shear stress can be formulated as a hypersingular integral equation over Ω and it is then transformed into a similar equation over a circular region, D, using conformal mapping. An appropriate collocation points are chosen on the region D to reduce the hypersingular integral equation into a system of linear equations with (2N+1)(N+1) unknown coefficients, which will later be used in the determination of shear stress intensity factors and maximum shear stress intensity. Numerical solution for the considered problem are compared with the existing asymptotic solution, and displayed graphically. Our results give a very good agreement to the existing asymptotic solutions.
Abstract: In this work we present the modelling of the induction
machine, taking into consideration the stator defects of the induction
machine. It is based on the theory of electromagnetic coupling of
electrical circuits. In fact, for the modelling of stationary defects such
as short circuit between turns in the same phase, we introduce only
in the matrix the coefficients of resistance and inductance of stator
and in the mutual inductance stator-rotor. These coefficients take
account the number of turns in short-circuit deducted from the total
number of turns in the same phase; in this way we obtain the number
of useful turns. In addition, all these faults involved, will be used for
the creation of the database that will be used to develop an automated
system failures of the induction machine.
Abstract: Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR)
approach for discovering novel more active Calanone derivative as
anti-leukemia compound has been conducted. There are 6
experimental activities of Calanone compounds against leukemia cell
L1210 that are used as material of the research. Calculation of
theoretical predictors (independent variables) was performed by
AM1 semiempirical method. The QSAR equation is determined by
Principle Component Regression (PCR) analysis, with Log IC50 as
dependent variable and the independent variables are atomic net
charges, dipole moment (μ), and coefficient partition of noctanol/
water (Log P). Three novel Calanone derivatives that
obtained by this research have higher activity against leukemia cell
L1210 than pure Calanone.
Abstract: In this work, simulation algorithms for contact drying
of agitated particulate materials under vacuum and at atmospheric
pressure were developed. The implementation of algorithms gives a
predictive estimation of drying rate curves and bulk bed temperature
during contact drying. The calculations are based on the penetration
model to describe the drying process, where all process parameters
such as heat and mass transfer coefficients, effective bed properties,
gas and liquid phase properties are estimated with proper
correlations. Simulation results were compared with experimental
data from the literature. In both cases, simulation results were in good
agreement with experimental data. Few deviations were identified
and the limitations of the predictive capabilities of the models are
discussed. The programs give a good insight of the drying behaviour
of the analysed powders.
Abstract: Vector quantization is a powerful tool for speech
coding applications. This paper deals with LPC Coding of speech
signals which uses a new technique called Multi Switched Split
Vector Quantization, This is a hybrid of two product code vector
quantization techniques namely the Multi stage vector quantization
technique, and Switched split vector quantization technique,. Multi
Switched Split Vector Quantization technique quantizes the linear
predictive coefficients in terms of line spectral frequencies. From
results it is proved that Multi Switched Split Vector Quantization
provides better trade off between bitrate and spectral distortion
performance, computational complexity and memory requirements
when compared to Switched Split Vector Quantization, Multi stage
vector quantization, and Split Vector Quantization techniques. By
employing the switching technique at each stage of the vector
quantizer the spectral distortion, computational complexity and
memory requirements were greatly reduced. Spectral distortion was
measured in dB, Computational complexity was measured in
floating point operations (flops), and memory requirements was
measured in (floats).
Abstract: In this paper we propose a Multiple Description Image Coding(MDIC) scheme to generate two compressed and balanced rates descriptions in the wavelet domain (Daubechies biorthogonal (9, 7) wavelet) using pairwise correlating transform optimal and application method for Generalized Multiple Description Coding (GMDC) to image coding in the wavelet domain. The GMDC produces statistically correlated streams such that lost streams can be estimated from the received data. Our performance test shown that the proposed method gives more improvement and good quality of the reconstructed image when the wavelet coefficients are normalized by Gaussian Scale Mixture (GSM) model then the Gaussian one ,.
Abstract: Microarray data profiles gene expression on a whole
genome scale, therefore, it provides a good way to study associations
between gene expression and occurrence or progression of cancer.
More and more researchers realized that microarray data is helpful
to predict cancer sample. However, the high dimension of gene
expressions is much larger than the sample size, which makes this
task very difficult. Therefore, how to identify the significant genes
causing cancer becomes emergency and also a hot and hard research
topic. Many feature selection algorithms have been proposed in
the past focusing on improving cancer predictive accuracy at the
expense of ignoring the correlations between the features. In this
work, a novel framework (named by SGS) is presented for stable gene
selection and efficient cancer prediction . The proposed framework
first performs clustering algorithm to find the gene groups where
genes in each group have higher correlation coefficient, and then
selects the significant genes in each group with Bayesian Lasso and
important gene groups with group Lasso, and finally builds prediction
model based on the shrinkage gene space with efficient classification
algorithm (such as, SVM, 1NN, Regression and etc.). Experiment
results on real world data show that the proposed framework often
outperforms the existing feature selection and prediction methods,
say SAM, IG and Lasso-type prediction model.

Abstract: Water vapour transport properties of gypsum block
are studied in dependence on relative humidity using inverse analysis
based on genetic algorithm. The computational inverse analysis is
performed for the relative humidity profiles measured along the
longitudinal axis of a rod sample. Within the performed transient
experiment, the studied sample is exposed to two environments with
different relative humidity, whereas the temperature is kept constant.
For the basic gypsum characterisation and for the assessment of input
material parameters necessary for computational application of
genetic algorithm, the basic material properties of gypsum are
measured as well as its thermal and water vapour storage parameters.
On the basis of application of genetic algorithm, the relative
humidity dependent water vapour diffusion coefficient and water
vapour diffusion resistance factor are calculated.
Abstract: The control design for unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) is challenging due to the uncertainties in the complex dynamic modeling of the vehicle as well as its unstructured operational environment. To cope with these difficulties, a practical robust control is therefore desirable. The paper deals with the application of coefficient diagram method (CDM) for a robust control design of an autonomous underwater vehicle. The CDM is an algebraic approach in which the characteristic polynomial and the controller are synthesized simultaneously. Particularly, a coefficient diagram (comparable to Bode diagram) is used effectively to convey pertinent design information and as a measure of trade-off between stability, response speed and robustness. In the polynomial ring, Kharitonov polynomials are employed to analyze the robustness of the controller due to parametric uncertainties.
Abstract: Nowadays, the increase of human population every
year results in increasing of water usage and demand. Saen Saep
canal is important canal in Bangkok. The main objective of this study
is using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model to estimate the
Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) on data from 11 sampling sites.
The data is obtained from the Department of Drainage and Sewerage,
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, during 2007-2011. The
twelve parameters of water quality are used as the input of the
models. These water quality indices affect the COD. The
experimental results indicate that the ANN model provides a high
correlation coefficient (R=0.89).
Abstract: This study is concerned with the investigation of the
suitability of several empirical and semi-empirical drying models
available in the literature to define drying behavior of viscose yarn
bobbins. For this purpose, firstly, experimental drying behaviour of
viscose bobbins was determined on an experimental dryer setup
which was designed and manufactured based on hot-air bobbin
dryers used in textile industry. Afterwards, drying models considered
were fitted to the experimentally obtained moisture ratios. Drying
parameters were drying temperature and bobbin diameter. The fit
was performed by selecting the values for constants in the models in
such a way that these values make the sum of the squared differences
between the experimental and the model results for moisture ratio
minimum. Suitability of fitting was specified as comparing the
correlation coefficient, standard error and mean square deviation.
The results show that the most appropriate model in describing the
drying curves of viscose bobbins is the Page model.
Abstract: The objective of this research was to find the diffusion properties of vehicles on the road by using the V-Sphere Code. The diffusion coefficient and the size of the height of the wake were estimated with the LES option and the third order MUSCL scheme. We evaluated the code with the changes in the moments of Reynolds Stress along the mean streamline. The results show that at the leading part of a bluff body the LES has some advantages over the RNS since the changes in the strain rates are larger for the leading part. We estimated that the diffusion coefficient with the computed Reynolds stress (non-dimensional) was about 0.96 times the mean velocity.
Abstract: The flow field over a three dimensional pole barn
characterized by a cylindrical roof has been numerically investigated.
Wind pressure and viscous loads acting on the agricultural building
have been analyzed for several incoming wind directions, so as to
evaluate the most critical load condition on the structure. A constant
wind velocity profile, based on the maximum reference wind speed in
the building site (peak gust speed worked out for 50 years return
period) and on the local roughness coefficient, has been simulated.
In order to contemplate also the hazard due to potential air
wedging between the stored hay and the lower part of the ceiling, the
effect of a partial filling of the barn has been investigated.
The distribution of wind-induced loads on the structure have been
determined, allowing a numerical quantification of the effect of wind
direction on the induced stresses acting on a hemicylindrical roof.
