Abstract: This paper addresses parameter and state estimation problem in the presence of the perturbation of observer gain bounded input disturbances for the Lipschitz systems that are linear in unknown parameters and nonlinear in states. A new nonlinear adaptive resilient observer is designed, and its stability conditions based on Lyapunov technique are derived. The gain for this observer is derived systematically using linear matrix inequality approach. A numerical example is provided in which the nonlinear terms depend on unmeasured states. The simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Abstract: The amount of urban artificial heat which affects the
urban temperature rise in urban meteorology was investigated in order
to clarify the relationships between urbanization and urban
meteorology in this study.
The results of calculation to identify how urban temperate was
increased through the establishment of a model for measuring the
amount of urban artificial heat and theoretical testing revealed that the
amount of urban artificial heat increased urban temperature by plus or
minus 0.23 ˚ C in 2007 compared with 1996, statistical methods
(correlation and regression analysis) to clarify the relationships
between urbanization and urban weather were as follows.
New design techniques and urban growth management are
necessary from urban growth management point of view suggested
from this research at city design phase to decrease urban temperature
rise and urban torrential rain which can produce urban disaster in terms
of urban meteorology by urbanization.
Abstract: The UK Government has emphasized the role of Local Authorities as a key player in its flagship residential energy efficiency strategies, by identifying and targeting areas for energy efficiency improvements. Residential energy consumption in England is characterized by significant geographical variation in energy demand, which makes centralized targeting of areas for energy efficiency intervention difficult. This paper draws on research which aims to understand how demographic, social, economic, urban form and climatic factors influence the geographical variations in English residential gas consumption. The paper reports the findings of a multiple regression model that shows how 64% of the geographical variation in residential gas consumption is accounted for by variations in these factors. Results from this study, after further refinement and validation, can be used by Local Authorities to identify areas within their boundaries that have higher than expected gas consumption, these may be prime targets for energy efficiency initiatives.
Abstract: Blood pulse is an important human physiological signal commonly used for the understanding of the individual physical health. Current methods of non-invasive blood pulse sensing require direct contact or access to the human skin. As such, the performances of these devices tend to vary with time and are subjective to human body fluids (e.g. blood, perspiration and skin-oil) and environmental contaminants (e.g. mud, water, etc). This paper proposes a simulation model for the novel method of non-invasive acquisition of blood pulse using the disturbance created by blood flowing through a localized magnetic field. The simulation model geometry represents a blood vessel, a permanent magnet, a magnetic sensor, surrounding tissues and air in 2-dimensional. In this model, the velocity and pressure fields in the blood stream are described based on Navier-Stroke equations and the walls of the blood vessel are assumed to have no-slip condition. The blood assumes a parabolic profile considering a laminar flow for blood in major artery near the skin. And the inlet velocity follows a sinusoidal equation. This will allow the computational software to compute the interactions between the magnetic vector potential generated by the permanent magnet and the magnetic nanoparticles in the blood. These interactions are simulated based on Maxwell equations at the location where the magnetic sensor is placed. The simulated magnetic field at the sensor location is found to assume similar sinusoidal waveform characteristics as the inlet velocity of the blood. The amplitude of the simulated waveforms at the sensor location are compared with physical measurements on human subjects and found to be highly correlated.
Abstract: In this paper we compare the response of linear and
nonlinear neural network-based prediction schemes in prediction of
received Signal-to-Interference Power Ratio (SIR) in Direct
Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS/CDMA) systems. The
nonlinear predictor is Multilayer Perceptron MLP and the linear
predictor is an Adaptive Linear (Adaline) predictor. We solve the
problem of complexity by using the Minimum Mean Squared Error
(MMSE) principle to select the optimal predictors. The optimized
Adaline predictor is compared to optimized MLP by employing
noisy Rayleigh fading signals with 1.8 GHZ carrier frequency in an
urban environment. The results show that the Adaline predictor can
estimates SIR with the same error as MLP when the user has the
velocity of 5 km/h and 60 km/h but by increasing the velocity up-to
120 km/h the mean squared error of MLP is two times more than
Adaline predictor. This makes the Adaline predictor (with lower
complexity) more suitable than MLP for closed-loop power control
where efficient and accurate identification of the time-varying
inverse dynamics of the multi path fading channel is required.
Abstract: In this study, the locations and areas of commercial
accumulations were detected by using digital yellow page data. An
original buffering method that can accurately create polygons of
commercial accumulations is proposed in this paper.; by using this
method, distribution of commercial accumulations can be easily
created and monitored over a wide area. The locations, areas, and
time-series changes of commercial accumulations in the South Kanto
region can be monitored by integrating polygons of commercial
accumulations with the time-series data of digital yellow page data.
The circumstances of commercial accumulations were shown to vary
according to areas, that is, highly- urbanized regions such as the city
center of Tokyo and prefectural capitals, suburban areas near large
cities, and suburban and rural areas.
Abstract: The issue of scientific – technological parks has been
proposed in several countries of the world especially in western
countries since a few decades ago and its efficiency is under
examination. In our county Iran, some scientific – technological
parks have been established or are being established. This design
would evaluate the urban role and method of architecture of these
parks in order to criticize its efficiency and offer some suggestions,
as much as possible to improve its building methods in Iran. The
main problem of this design is that how much these parks in Iran do
meet the international measurements. So for this reason, one
scientific park in Iran and one from western countries would be
studied and compared with each other.
Abstract: Webcam systems now function as the new privileged
vantage points from which to view the city. This transformation of
CCTV technology from surveillance to promotional tool is significant
because its'scopic regime' presents, back to the public, a new virtual
'site' that sits alongside its real-time counterpart. Significantly,
thisraw 'image' data can, in fact,be co-optedand processed so as to
disrupt their original purpose. This paper will demonstrate this
disruptive capacity through an architectural project. It will reveal how
the adaption the webcam image offers a technical springboard by
which to initiate alternate urban form making decisions and subvert
the disciplinary reliance on the 'flat' orthographic plan. In so doing,
the paper will show how this 'digital material' exceeds the imagistic
function of the image; shiftingit from being a vehicle of signification
to a site of affect.
Abstract: Optimization plays an important role in most real
world applications that support decision makers to take the right
decision regarding the strategic directions and operations of the
system they manage. Solutions for traffic management and traffic
congestion problems are considered major problems that most
decision making authorities for cities around the world are looking
for. This review paper gives a full description of the traffic problem
as part of the transportation planning process and present a view as a
framework of urban transportation system analysis where the core of
the system is a transportation network equilibrium model that is
based on optimization techniques and that can also be used for
evaluating an alternative solution or a combination of alternative
solutions for the traffic congestion. Different transportation network
equilibrium models are reviewed from the sequential approach to the
multiclass combining trip generation, trip distribution, modal split,
trip assignment and departure time model. A GIS-Based intelligent
decision support system framework for urban transportation system
analysis is suggested for implementation where the selection of
optimized alternative solutions, single or packages, will be based on
an intelligent agent rather than human being which would lead to
reduction in time, cost and the elimination of the difficulty, by
human being, for finding the best solution to the traffic congestion
problem.
Abstract: There is currently intensive debate in Alberta,
Canada, regarding rural to urban water reallocation. This paper
explores the demographic and attitudinal influences that are
associated with the acceptance of water reallocation policies and
whether such acceptance differs between urban and rural residents.
We investigate three policy orientations in regards to water policies:
i) government intervention; ii) environmental protection; and iii)
protecting irrigators- water rights. We find that urban dwellers are
more likely to favour government intervention while rural dwellers
are more likely to support policies that aim at protecting irrigators-
water rights. While urban dwellers are also more likely to favour
environmental protection, the difference is not statistically
significant. We also find that other factors have a significant impact
on policy choice irrespective of residence such as demographic and
socioeconomic factors as well as the values people hold toward water
and the environment.
Abstract: The paper presents the virtual model of the active
suspension system used for improving the dynamic behavior of a
motor vehicle. The study is focused on the design of the control
system, the purpose being to minimize the effect of the road
disturbances (which are considered as perturbations for the control
system). The analysis is performed for a quarter-car model, which
corresponds to the suspension system of the front wheel, by using the
DFC (Design for Control) software solution EASY5 (Engineering
Analysis Systems) of MSC Software. The controller, which is a PIDbased
device, is designed through a parametric optimization with the
Matrix Algebra Tool (MAT), considering the gain factors as design
variables, while the design objective is to minimize the overshoot of
the indicial response.
Abstract: The main objective of our study is to collect data
about the profile of the asthmatic patients in Assam and thereby have
a comprehensive knowledge of the factors influencing the asthmatic
patients of the state and their medication pattern. We developed a
search strategy to find any publication about the community based
survey asthma related and used. These to search the MEDLINE
(1996 to current literature) CINAHL DOAJ pubmed databases using
the key phrases, Asthma, Respiratory disorders, Drug therapy of
Asthma, database decision support system and asthma. The
appropriate literature was printed out from the online source and
library (Journal) source. The study was conducted through a set of
structured and non-structured questionnaires targeted on the
asthmatic patients belonging to the rural and urban areas of Assam,
during the month of Dec 2006 to July 2007, 138 cases were studied
in Gauwathi Medical College & Hospital located in Bhangagarh,
Assam in India. The demographic characteristics a factor in 138
patients with asthma with allergic rhinitis (cases) gives the detail
profile of asthmatic patient-s distribution of Assam as classified on
the basis of age and sex. It is evident from the study that male
populations (66%) are more prone to asthma as compared to the
females (34%).Another striking features that emerged from this
survey is the maximum prevalence of asthma in the age group of 20-
30 years followed by infants belonging to the age group of 7 (0.05%)
0-10years among both male and female populations of Assam. The
high incidence of asthma in the age group of 20-30 years may
probably be due to the allergy arising out of sudden exposure to dust
and pollen which the children face while playing and going to the
school. The rural females in the age group of 30-40 years are more
prone to asthma than urban females in the same age group may be
due to sex differentiation among the tribal population of the state.
Pharmacists should educate the asthmatics how to use inhalers
considering growing menace of asthma in the state. Safer drugs
should be produced in the form of aerosol so that easy administration
by the asthmatic patients and physicians of the state is possible for
curing asthma. The health centers should be more equipped with the
medicines to cure asthma in the state like Assam.
Abstract: Power system stability enhancement by simultaneous tuning of a Power System Stabilizer (PSS) and a Static Var Compensator (SVC)-based controller is thoroughly investigated in this paper. The coordination among the proposed damping stabilizers and the SVC internal voltage regulators has also been taken into consideration. The design problem is formulated as an optimization problem with a time-domain simulation-based objective function and Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) is employed to search for optimal controller parameters. The proposed stabilizers are tested on a weakly connected power system with different disturbances and loading conditions. The nonlinear simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control schemes over a wide range of loading conditions and disturbances. Further, the proposed design approach is found to be robust and improves stability effectively even under small disturbance and unbalanced fault conditions.
Abstract: In current global economics the application of Business Continuity Management is the prerequisite for sustainable competitive advantage in an organization. Business Continuity Management is a managerial which identifies the potential impact of losses in an organization. The aim of this paper is to identify and critically evaluate the relative advantages and disadvantages of deploying Business Continuity Management in an organization on the basis of seven criteria. The strongest advantage of Business Continuity Management is in its capacity to identify a crisis situation and help the organization to flexibly and also to keep the critical knowledge within the organization. By contrast the main disadvantage is that establishing Business Continuity Management in an organization is time-consuming and its implementation as an integral part of the organizational culture present significant difficulties.
Abstract: A preliminary evaluation of the urban land system is
presented in the article together with the instruments of land policy in
Serbia. The main reason for the analysis is demand for
definition of reform framework for urban land management in
Serbia in the period of transition towards market-led system. It
is concluded that due to the limitations of the current regulation it
will be impossible in the future to apply market principles in the
urban land policy (supply and demand of land, land capitalization,
investment efficiency, et al.). Based on the estimation that the urban
land system and land policy are key factors of competitiveness
between regions and towns in Serbia, it is necessary to initiate
changes in this field. There are indicated on an option of privatization
of urban public land and possible establishment of leasehold land. A
comparative analysis of the possibilities of the reform urban land
system in Serbia has been carried out in relation to two approaches of
market systems: (a) with dominant private ownership of urban land
(neo/liberal approach) and (b) with dominant public ownership of
urban land (system of leasehold)whose findings can be a basis for
further study of the new system in Serbia.. The attanied results are
part of studies matter for the making of Strategy of territorial
development of Serbia.
Abstract: In this paper, determining the optimal proportionalintegral-
derivative (PID) controller gains of an single-area load
frequency control (LFC) system using genetic algorithm (GA) is
presented. The LFC is notoriously difficult to control optimally using
conventionally tuning a PID controller because the system parameters
are constantly changing. It is for this reason the GA as tuning strategy
was applied. The simulation has been conducted in MATLAB
Simulink package for single area power system. the simulation results
shows the effectiveness performance of under various disturbance.
Abstract: With the development of technology, the growing
trend of fast and safe passenger transport, air pollution, traffic
congestion, increase in problems such as the increasing population
and the high cost of private vehicle usage made many cities around
the world with a population of more or less, start to build rail systems
as a means of urban transport in order to ensure the economic and
environmental sustainability and more efficient use of land in the
city. The implementation phase of rail systems costs much more than
other public transport systems. However, social and economic returns
in the long term made these systems the most popular investment tool
for planned and developing cities.
In our country, the purpose, goals and policies of transportation
plans are away from integrity, and the problems are not clearly
detected. Also, not defined and incomplete assessment of
transportation systems and insufficient financial analysis are the most
important cause of failure. Rail systems and other transportation
systems to be addressed as a whole is seen as the main factor in
increasing efficiency in applications that are not integrated yet in our
country to come to this point has led to the problem.
Abstract: There is a complex situation on the transport environment in the cities of the world. For the analysis and prevention of environmental problems an accurate calculation hazardous substances concentrations at each point of the investigated area is required. In the turbulent atmosphere of the city the wellknown methods of mathematical statistics for these tasks cannot be applied with a satisfactory level of accuracy. Therefore, to solve this class of problems apparatus of mathematical physics is more appropriate. In such models, because of the difficulty as a rule the influence of uneven land surface on streams of air masses in the turbulent atmosphere of the city are not taken into account. In this paper the influence of the surface roughness, which can be quite large, is mathematically shown. The analysis of this problem under certain conditions identified the possibility of areas appearing in the atmosphere with pressure tending to infinity, i.e. so-called "wall effect".
Abstract: Road rage is an increasingly prevalent expression of
aggression in our society. Its dangers are apparent and understanding
its causes may shed light on preventative measures. This study
involved a fifteen-minute survey administered to 147 undergraduate
students at a North Eastern suburban university. The survey
consisted of a demographics section, questions regarding financial
investment in respondents- vehicles, experience driving, habits of
driving, experiences witnessing role models driving, and an
evaluation of road rage behavior using the Driving Vengeance
Questionnaire. The study found no significant differences in driving
aggression between respondents who were financially invested in
their vehicle compared to those who were not, or between
respondents who drove in heavy traffic hours compared to those who
did not, suggesting internal factors correlate with aggressive driving
habits. The study also found significant differences in driving
aggression between males versus females, those with more points on
their license versus fewer points, and those who witnessed parents
driving aggressively very often versus rarely or never. Additional
studies can investigate how witnessing parents driving aggressively
is related to future driving behaviors.
Abstract: This paper deals with the synthesis of fuzzy controller
applied to a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with a
guaranteed H∞ performance. To design this fuzzy controller,
nonlinear model of the PMSM is approximated by Takagi-Sugeno
fuzzy model (T-S fuzzy model), then the so-called parallel
distributed compensation (PDC) is employed. Next, we derive the
property of the H∞ norm. The latter is cast in terms of linear matrix
inequalities (LMI-s) while minimizing the H∞ norm of the transfer
function between the disturbance and the error ( ) ev T . The
experimental and simulations results were conducted on a permanent
magnet synchronous machine to illustrate the effects of the fuzzy
modelling and the controller design via the PDC.
