Abstract: This paper presents an approach based on the
adoption of a distributed cognition framework and a non parametric
multicriteria evaluation methodology (DEA) designed specifically to
compare e-commerce websites from the consumer/user viewpoint. In
particular, the framework considers a website relative efficiency as a
measure of its quality and usability. A website is modelled as a black
box capable to provide the consumer/user with a set of
functionalities. When the consumer/user interacts with the website to
perform a task, he/she is involved in a cognitive activity, sustaining a
cognitive cost to search, interpret and process information, and
experiencing a sense of satisfaction. The degree of ambiguity and
uncertainty he/she perceives and the needed search time determine
the effort size – and, henceforth, the cognitive cost amount – he/she
has to sustain to perform his/her task. On the contrary, task
performing and result achievement induce a sense of gratification,
satisfaction and usefulness. In total, 9 variables are measured,
classified in a set of 3 website macro-dimensions (user experience,
site navigability and structure). The framework is implemented to
compare 40 websites of businesses performing electronic commerce
in the information technology market. A questionnaire to collect
subjective judgements for the websites in the sample was purposely
designed and administered to 85 university students enrolled in
computer science and information systems engineering
undergraduate courses.
Abstract: In this paper we present a combined
hashing/watermarking method for image authentication. A robust
image hash, invariant to legitimate modifications, but fragile to
illegitimate modifications is generated from the local image
characteristics. To increase security of the system the watermark is
generated using the image hash as a key. Quantized Index
Modulation of DCT coefficients is used for watermark embedding.
Watermark detection is performed without use of the original image.
Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented
method in terms of robustness and fragility.
Abstract: The identification and elimination of bad
measurements is one of the basic functions of a robust state estimator
as bad data have the effect of corrupting the results of state
estimation according to the popular weighted least squares method.
However this is a difficult problem to handle especially when dealing
with multiple errors from the interactive conforming type. In this
paper, a self adaptive genetic based algorithm is proposed. The
algorithm utilizes the results of the classical linearized normal
residuals approach to tune the genetic operators thus instead of
making a randomized search throughout the whole search space it is
more likely to be a directed search thus the optimum solution is
obtained at very early stages(maximum of 5 generations). The
algorithm utilizes the accumulating databases of already computed
cases to reduce the computational burden to minimum. Tests are
conducted with reference to the standard IEEE test systems. Test
results are very promising.
Abstract: Protection and proper management of archaeological heritage are an essential process of studying and interpreting the generations present and future. Protecting the archaeological heritage is based upon multidiscipline professional collaboration. This study aims to gather data by different sources (Photogrammetry and Geographic Information System (GIS)) integrated for the purpose of documenting one the of significant archeological sites (Ahl-Alkahf, Jordan). 3D modeling deals with the actual image of the features, shapes and texture to represent reality as realistically as possible by using texture. The 3D coordinates that result of the photogrammetric adjustment procedures are used to create 3D-models of the study area. Adding Textures to the 3D-models surfaces gives a 'real world' appearance to the displayed models. GIS system combined all data, including boundary maps, indicating the location of archeological sites, transportation layer, digital elevation model and orthoimages. For realistic representation of the study area, 3D - GIS model prepared, where efficient generation, management and visualization of such special data can be achieved.
Abstract: As mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) have different
characteristics from wired networks and even from standard wireless
networks, there are new challenges related to security issues that
need to be addressed. Due to its unique features such as open nature,
lack of infrastructure and central management, node mobility and
change of dynamic topology, prevention methods from attacks on
them are not enough. Therefore intrusion detection is one of the
possible ways in recognizing a possible attack before the system
could be penetrated. All in all, techniques for intrusion detection in
old wireless networks are not suitable for MANET. In this paper, we
classify the architecture for Intrusion detection systems that have so
far been introduced for MANETs, and then existing intrusion
detection techniques in MANET presented and compared. We then
indicate important future research directions.
Abstract: fifteen cultivars of Strawberries (Queen Eliza, Sequia,
Paros, Mcdonance, Selva, Chandler, Mrak, Ten beauty, Aliso, Pajero,
Kordestan, Camarosa, Blackmore, Gaviota and Fresno) were
investigated in 2011, under hydroponic system condition. Yield and
fruit Firmness was determinate. Chemical analyses of soluble solids
content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), ascorbic acid (AA) and pH
were done. 4 cultivars (Aliso, Selva, Paros and Gaviota) yielded more
than 250 g/plant, while cultivar Black more, Fresno and Kordestan
produced less than 100g/plant. The amounts of fruit firmness
indicated that 'Camarosa' fruit was firmer than others cultivars.
Cultivar 'Fresno' had the highest pH (3.27). Ttitratable acidity varied
from 1.03g/l00g for cultivar 'Sequia' and 'Gaviota' to 1.48g/l00g for
cultivar 'Chandler'. Fresno, Kordestan, Aliso and Chandler showed
the highest soluble solid concentration. Ascorbic acid averaged for
most cultivars between 30.26 and 79.73 mg/100gf.w. Present results
showed that different cultivars of strawberry contain highly variable
in fruit quality.
Abstract: Nuclear energy sources have been widely used in the
past decades in order to power spacecraft subsystems. Nevertheless,
their use has attracted controversy because of the risk of harmful
material released into the atmosphere if an accident were to occur
during the launch phase of the mission, leading to the general
adoption of photovoltaic systems.
As compared to solar cells, wind turbines have a great advantage
on Mars, as they can continuously produce power both during dust
storms and at night-time: this paper focuses on the potential of a wind
energy conversion system (WECS) considering the atmospheric
conditions on Mars. Wind potential on Martian surface has been
estimated, as well as the average energy requirements of a Martian
probe or surface rover. Finally, the expected daily energy output of
the WECS has been computed on the basis of both the swept area of
the rotor and the equivalent wind speed at the landing site.
Abstract: This work presents an approach for the measurement
of mutual inductance on near field inductive coupling. The mutual
inductance between inductive circuits allows the simulation of energy
transfer from reader to tag, that can be used in RFID and powerless
implantable devices. It also allows one to predict the maximum
voltage in the tag of the radio-frequency system.
Abstract: This paper proposes a methodology for analysis of
the dynamic behavior of a robotic manipulator in continuous
time. Initially this system (nonlinear system) will be decomposed
into linear submodels and analyzed in the context of the Linear
and Parameter Varying (LPV) Systems. The obtained linear
submodels, which represent the local dynamic behavior of the
robotic manipulator in some operating points were grouped in
a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy structure. The obtained fuzzy model was
analyzed and validated through analog simulation, as universal
approximator of the robotic manipulator.
Abstract: The growth of the aquaculture industry has been
associated with negative environmental impacts through the
discharge of raw effluents into the adjacent receiving water bodies.
Macrophytes from natural saline lakes, which have adaptability to the
high salinity, can be suitable for saline effluent treatment. Eight
emergent species from natural saline area were planted in an
experimental gravel bed hydroponic mesocosm (GBH) which was
treated with effluent water from an intensive fish farm using
geothermal water. In order to examine the applicability of the
halophytes in treatment processes, we tested the relative efficacy of
total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), potassium (K), sodium
(Na), magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) removal for the saline
wastewater treatment. Four of the eight species, which were
Phragmites australis, Typha angustifolia, Glyceria maxima, Scirpus
lacustris spp. tabernaemontani could survive and contribute the
experimental treatment.
Abstract: Traditional higher-education classrooms allow lecturers to observe students- behaviours and responses to a particular pedagogy during learning in a way that can influence changes to the pedagogical approach. Within current e-learning systems it is difficult to perform continuous analysis of the cohort-s behavioural tendency, making real-time pedagogical decisions difficult. This paper presents a Virtual Learning Process Environment (VLPE) based on the Business Process Management (BPM) conceptual framework. Within the VLPE, course designers can model various education pedagogies in the form of learning process workflows using an intuitive flow diagram interface. These diagrams are used to visually track the learning progresses of a cohort of students. This helps assess the effectiveness of the chosen pedagogy, providing the information required to improve course design. A case scenario of a cohort of students is presented and quantitative statistical analysis of their learning process performance is gathered and displayed in realtime using dashboards.
Abstract: Rice seed expression (cDNA) library in the Lambda
Zap 11® phage constructed from the developing grain 10-20 days
after flowering was transformed into yeast for functional
complementation assays in three salt sensitive yeast mutants S.
cerevisiae strain CY162, G19 and Axt3K. Transformed cells of G19
and Axt3K with pYES vector with cDNA inserts showed enhance
tolerance than those with empty pYes vector. Sequencing of the
cDNA inserts revealed that they encode for the putative proteins with
the sequence homologous to rice putative protein PROLM24
(Os06g31070), a prolamin precursor. Expression of this cDNA did
not affect yeast growth in absence of salt. Axt3k and G19 strains
expressing the PROLM24 were able to grow upto 400 mM and 600
mM of NaCl respectively. Similarly, Axt3k mutant with PROLM24
expression showed comparatively higher growth rate in the medium
with excess LiCl (50 mM). The observation that expression of
PROLM24 rescued the salt sensitive phenotypes of G19 and Axt3k
indicates the existence of a regulatory system that ameliorates the
effect of salt stress in the transformed yeast mutants. However, the
exact function of the cDNA sequence, which shows partial sequence
homology to yeast UTR1 is not clear. Although UTR1 involved in
ferrous uptake and iron homeostasis in yeast cells, there is no
evidence to prove its role in Na+ homeostasis in yeast cells. Absence
of transmembrane regions in Os06g31070 protein indicates that salt
tolerance is achieved not through the direct functional
complementation of the mutant genes but through an alternative
mechanism.
Abstract: This paper proposes a Particle Swarm Optimization
(PSO) based technique for the optimal allocation of Distributed
Generation (DG) units in the power systems. In this paper our aim is
to decide optimal number, type, size and location of DG units for
voltage profile improvement and power loss reduction in distribution
network. Two types of DGs are considered and the distribution load
flow is used to calculate exact loss. Load flow algorithm is combined
appropriately with PSO till access to acceptable results of this
operation. The suggested method is programmed under MATLAB
software. Test results indicate that PSO method can obtain better
results than the simple heuristic search method on the 30-bus and 33-
bus radial distribution systems. It can obtain maximum loss reduction
for each of two types of optimally placed multi-DGs. Moreover,
voltage profile improvement is achieved.
Abstract: This paper presents a conceptual model of agreement
options for negotiation support in multi-person decision on
optimizing high-rise building columns. The decision is complicated
since many parties involved in choosing a single alternative from a
set of solutions. There are different concern caused by differing
preferences, experiences, and background. Such building columns as
alternatives are referred to as agreement options which are
determined by identifying the possible decision maker group,
followed by determining the optimal solution for each group. The
group in this paper is based on three-decision makers preferences that
are designer, programmer, and construction manager. Decision
techniques applied to determine the relative value of the alternative
solutions for performing the function. Analytical Hierarchy Process
(AHP) was applied for decision process and game theory based agent
system for coalition formation. An n-person cooperative game is
represented by the set of all players. The proposed coalition
formation model enables each agent to select individually its allies or
coalition. It further emphasizes the importance of performance
evaluation in the design process and value-based decision.
Abstract: Most of the real queuing systems include special properties and constraints, which can not be analyzed directly by using the results of solved classical queuing models. Lack of Markov chains features, unexponential patterns and service constraints, are the mentioned conditions. This paper represents an applied general algorithm for analysis and optimizing the queuing systems. The algorithm stages are described through a real case study. It is consisted of an almost completed non-Markov system with limited number of customers and capacities as well as lots of common exception of real queuing networks. Simulation is used for optimizing this system. So introduced stages over the following article include primary modeling, determining queuing system kinds, index defining, statistical analysis and goodness of fit test, validation of model and optimizing methods of system with simulation.
Abstract: Innovations in technology have created new ethical
challenges. Essential use of electronic communication in the
workplace has escalated at an astronomical rate over the past decade.
As such, legal and ethical dilemmas confronted by both the employer
and the employee concerning managerial control and ownership of einformation
have increased dramatically in the USA. From the
employer-s perspective, ownership and control of all information
created for the workplace is an undeniable source of economic
advantage and must be monitored zealously. From the perspective of
the employee, individual rights, such as privacy, freedom of speech,
and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, continue to be
stalwart legal guarantees that employers are not legally or ethically
entitled to abridge in the workplace. These issues have been the
source of great debate and the catalyst for legal reform. The fine line
between ethical and legal has been complicated by emerging
technologies. This manuscript will identify and discuss a number of
specific legal and ethical issues raised by the dynamic electronic
workplace and conclude with suggestions that employers should
follow to respect the delicate balance between employees- legal
rights to privacy and the employer's right to protect its knowledge
systems and infrastructure.
Abstract: Artificial Immune System is adopted as a Heuristic
Algorithm to solve the combinatorial problems for decades.
Nevertheless, many of these applications took advantage of the benefit
for applications but seldom proposed approaches for enhancing the
efficiency. In this paper, we continue the previous research to develop
a Self-evolving Artificial Immune System II via coordinating the T
and B cell in Immune System and built a block-based artificial
chromosome for speeding up the computation time and better
performance for different complexities of problems. Through the
design of Plasma cell and clonal selection which are relative the
function of the Immune Response. The Immune Response will help
the AIS have the global and local searching ability and preventing
trapped in local optima. From the experimental result, the significant
performance validates the SEAIS II is effective when solving the
permutation flows-hop problems.
Abstract: Increase in globalization of capital markets brings the
higher requirements on financial information provided for investors
who look for a highly comparable information. Paper deals with the
advantages and limitations of applying International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the Czech Republic and Ukraine. As a
greatest limit for full adoption of IFRS shall be acknowledged the
strong connection of continental accounting to tax system and
enormous high administrative burden for IFRS appliers.
Abstract: Cosmic showers, during the transit through space, produce
sub - products as a result of interactions with the intergalactic
or interstellar medium which after entering earth generate secondary
particles called Extensive Air Shower (EAS). Detection and analysis
of High Energy Particle Showers involve a plethora of theoretical and
experimental works with a host of constraints resulting in inaccuracies
in measurements. Therefore, there exist a necessity to develop a
readily available system based on soft-computational approaches
which can be used for EAS analysis. This is due to the fact that soft
computational tools such as Artificial Neural Network (ANN)s can be
trained as classifiers to adapt and learn the surrounding variations. But
single classifiers fail to reach optimality of decision making in many
situations for which Multiple Classifier System (MCS) are preferred
to enhance the ability of the system to make decisions adjusting
to finer variations. This work describes the formation of an MCS
using Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP), Recurrent Neural Network
(RNN) and Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) with data inputs
from correlation mapping Self Organizing Map (SOM) blocks and
the output optimized by another SOM. The results show that the setup
can be adopted for real time practical applications for prediction
of primary energy and location of EAS from density values captured
using detectors in a circular grid.
Abstract: This paper seeks to explore the actual classroom
setting, to examine its role for students- learning, and attitude in the
class. It presents a theoretical approach of the classroom as system to
be explored and examines the concrete reality of Greek secondary
education students, under the light of the above approach. Based on
the findings of a quantitative and qualitative research, authors
propose a rather ontological approach of the classroom and underline
what the key-elements for such approach should be. The paper
explores extensively the theoretical dimensions for the change of
paradigm required and addresses the new issues to be considered.
