Abstract: This paper proposes new hybrid approaches for face
recognition. Gabor wavelets representation of face images is an
effective approach for both facial action recognition and face
identification. Perform dimensionality reduction and linear
discriminate analysis on the down sampled Gabor wavelet faces can
increase the discriminate ability. Nearest feature space is extended to
various similarity measures. In our experiments, proposed Gabor
wavelet faces combined with extended neural net feature space
classifier shows very good performance, which can achieve 93 %
maximum correct recognition rate on ORL data set without any preprocessing
step.
Abstract: A fault detection and identification (FDI) technique is
presented to create a fault tolerant control system (FTC). The fault
detection is achieved by monitoring the position of the light source
using an array of light sensors. When a decision is made about the
presence of a fault an identification process is initiated to locate the
faulty component and reconfigure the controller signals. The signals
provided by the sensors are predictable; therefore the existence of a
fault is easily identified. Identification of the faulty sensor is based on
the dynamics of the frame. The technique is not restricted to a
particular type of controllers and the results show consistency.
Abstract: The identification and classification of weeds are of
major technical and economical importance in the agricultural
industry. To automate these activities, like in shape, color and
texture, weed control system is feasible. The goal of this paper is to
build a real-time, machine vision weed control system that can detect
weed locations. In order to accomplish this objective, a real-time
robotic system is developed to identify and locate outdoor plants
using machine vision technology and pattern recognition. The
algorithm is developed to classify images into broad and narrow class
for real-time selective herbicide application. The developed
algorithm has been tested on weeds at various locations, which have
shown that the algorithm to be very effectiveness in weed
identification. Further the results show a very reliable performance
on weeds under varying field conditions. The analysis of the results
shows over 90 percent classification accuracy over 140 sample
images (broad and narrow) with 70 samples from each category of
weeds.

Abstract: The robot is a repeated task plant. The control of such
a plant under parameter variations and load disturbances is one of the
important problems. The aim of this work is to design Geno-Fuzzy
controller suitable for online applications to control single link rigid
robot arm plant. The genetic-fuzzy online controller (indirect
controller) has two genetic-fuzzy blocks, the first as controller, the
second as identifier. The identification method is based on inverse
identification technique. The proposed controller it tested in normal
and load disturbance conditions.
Abstract: Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is the engine
driving high-throughput protein identification. Protein mixtures possibly
representing thousands of proteins from multiple species are
treated with proteolytic enzymes, cutting the proteins into smaller
peptides that are then analyzed generating MS/MS spectra. The
task of determining the identity of the peptide from its spectrum
is currently the weak point in the process. Current approaches to de
novo sequencing are able to compute candidate peptides efficiently.
The problem lies in the limitations of current scoring functions. In this
paper we introduce the concept of proteome signature. By examining
proteins and compiling proteome signatures (amino acid usage) it is
possible to characterize likely combinations of amino acids and better
distinguish between candidate peptides. Our results strongly support
the hypothesis that a scoring function that considers amino acid usage
patterns is better able to distinguish between candidate peptides. This
in turn leads to higher accuracy in peptide prediction.
Abstract: Accurate evaluation of damping ratios involving soilstructure interaction (SSI) effects is the prerequisite for seismic design of in-situ buildings. This study proposes a combined approach to identify damping ratios of SSI systems based on ambient excitation technique. The proposed approach is illustrated with main test process, sampling principle and algorithm steps through an engineering example, as along with its feasibility and validity. The proposed approach is employed for damping ratio identification of 82 buildings in Xi-an, China. Based on the experimental data, the variation range and tendency of damping ratios of these SSI systems, along with the preliminary influence factor, are shown and discussed. In addition, a fitting curve indicates the relation between the damping ratio and fundamental natural period of SSI system.
Abstract: Web services provide significant new benefits for SOAbased
applications, but they also expose significant new security
risks. There are huge number of WS security standards and
processes. At present, there is still a lack of a comprehensive
approach which offers a methodical development in the construction
of secure WS-based SOA. Thus, the main objective of this paper is
to address this needs, presenting a comprehensive method for Web
Services Security guaranty in SOA. The proposed method defines
three stages, Initial Security Analysis, Architectural Security
Guaranty and WS Security Standards Identification. These facilitate,
respectively, the definition and analysis of WS-specific security
requirements, the development of a WS-based security architecture
and the identification of the related WS security standards that the
security architecture must articulate in order to implement the
security services.

Parameter Model (LPM) in frontal crash. There are several ways for
determining spring and damper characteristics and type of problem
shall be considered as system identification. This study use Genetic

optimization issues, for optimizing errors, between target data
(experimental data) and calculated results (being obtained by
analytical solving). In this study analyzed model in 5-DOF then
compared our results with 5-DOF serial model. Finally, the response
of model due to external excitement is investigated.
Abstract: This work proposes a recursive weighted ELS
algorithm for system identification by applying numerically robust
orthogonal Householder transformations. The properties of the
proposed algorithm show it obtains acceptable results in a noisy
environment: fast convergence and asymptotically unbiased
estimates. Comparative analysis with others robust methods well
known from literature are also presented.
Abstract: The approach proposed here is oriented in the direction of fuzzy system for the analysis and the synthesis of intelligent climate controllers, the simulation of the internal climate of the greenhouse is achieved by a linear model whose coefficients are obtained by identification. The use of fuzzy logic controllers for the regulation of climate variables represents a powerful way to minimize the energy cost. Strategies of reduction and optimization are adopted to facilitate the tuning and to reduce the complexity of the controller.
Abstract: This paper presents preliminary results on modeling
and control of a quadrotor UAV. With aerodynamic concepts, a
mathematical model is firstly proposed to describe the dynamics
of the quadrotor UAV. Parameters of this model are identified by
experiments with Matlab Identify Toolbox. A group of PID controllers
are then designed based on the developed model. To verify
the developed model and controllers, simulations and experiments for
altitude control, position control and trajectory tracking are carried
out. The results show that the quadrotor UAV well follows the
referenced commands, which clearly demonstrates the effectiveness
of the proposed approach.
Abstract: Selection of maize (Zea mays) hybrids with wide adaptability across diverse farming environments is important, prior to recommending them to achieve a high rate of hybrid adoption. Grain yield of 14 maize hybrids, tested in a randomized completeblock design with four replicates across 22 environments in Iran, was analyzed using site regression (SREG) stability model. The biplot technique facilitates a visual evaluation of superior genotypes, which is useful for cultivar recommendation and mega-environment identification. The objectives of this study were (i) identification of suitable hybrids with both high mean performance and high stability (ii) to determine mega-environments for maize production in Iran. Biplot analysis identifies two mega-environments in this study. The first mega-environments included KRM, KSH, MGN, DZF A, KRJ, DRB, DZF B, SHZ B, and KHM, where G10 hybrid was the best performing hybrid. The second mega-environment included ESF B, ESF A, and SHZ A, where G4 hybrid was the best hybrid. According to the ideal-hybrid biplot, G10 hybrid was better than all other hybrids, followed by the G1 and G3 hybrids. These hybrids were identified as best hybrids that have high grain yield and high yield stability. GGE biplot analysis provided a framework for identifying the target testing locations that discriminates genotypes that are high yielding and stable.
Abstract: This paper presents an approach which is based on the
use of supervised feed forward neural network, namely multilayer
perceptron (MLP) neural network and finite element method (FEM)
to solve the inverse problem of parameters identification. The
approach is used to identify unknown parameters of ferromagnetic
materials. The methodology used in this study consists in the
simulation of a large number of parameters in a material under test,
using the finite element method (FEM). Both variations in relative
magnetic permeability and electrical conductivity of the material
under test are considered. Then, the obtained results are used to
generate a set of vectors for the training of MLP neural network.
Finally, the obtained neural network is used to evaluate a group of
new materials, simulated by the FEM, but not belonging to the
original dataset. Noisy data, added to the probe measurements is used
to enhance the robustness of the method. The reached results
demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach, and encourage
future works on this subject.
Abstract: This paper proposes a method, combining color and
layout features, for identifying documents captured from lowresolution
handheld devices. On one hand, the document image color
density surface is estimated and represented with an equivalent
ellipse and on the other hand, the document shallow layout structure
is computed and hierarchically represented. The combined color and
layout features are arranged in a symbolic file, which is unique for
each document and is called the document-s visual signature. Our
identification method first uses the color information in the
signatures in order to focus the search space on documents having a
similar color distribution, and finally selects the document having the
most similar layout structure in the remaining search space. Finally,
our experiment considers slide documents, which are often captured
using handheld devices.
Abstract: Face detection and recognition has many applications
in a variety of fields such as security system, videoconferencing and
identification. Face classification is currently implemented in
software. A hardware implementation allows real-time processing,
but has higher cost and time to-market.
The objective of this work is to implement a classifier based on
neural networks MLP (Multi-layer Perceptron) for face detection.
The MLP is used to classify face and non-face patterns. The systm is
described using C language on a P4 (2.4 Ghz) to extract weight
values. Then a Hardware implementation is achieved using VHDL
based Methodology. We target Xilinx FPGA as the implementation
support.
Abstract: This paper presents a method to detect multiple cracks
based on frequency information. When a structure is subjected to
dynamic or static loads, cracks may develop and the modal
frequencies of the cracked structure may change. To detect cracks in a
structure, we construct a high precision wavelet finite element (EF)
model of a certain structure using the B-spline wavelet on the interval
(BSWI). Cracks can be modeled by rotational springs and added to the
FE model. The crack detection database will be obtained by solving
that model. Then the crack locations and depths can be determined
based on the frequency information from the database. The
performance of the proposed method has been numerically verified by
a rotor example.
Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a new method for elliptical
object identification. The proposed method adopts a hybrid scheme
which consists of Eigen values of covariance matrices, Circular
Hough transform and Bresenham-s raster scan algorithms. In this
approach we use the fact that the large Eigen values and small Eigen
values of covariance matrices are associated with the major and minor
axial lengths of the ellipse. The centre location of the ellipse can be
identified using circular Hough transform (CHT). Sparse matrix
technique is used to perform CHT. Since sparse matrices squeeze zero
elements and contain a small number of nonzero elements they
provide an advantage of matrix storage space and computational time.
Neighborhood suppression scheme is used to find the valid Hough
peaks. The accurate position of circumference pixels is identified
using raster scan algorithm which uses the geometrical symmetry
property. This method does not require the evaluation of tangents or
curvature of edge contours, which are generally very sensitive to
noise working conditions. The proposed method has the advantages of
small storage, high speed and accuracy in identifying the feature. The
new method has been tested on both synthetic and real images.
Several experiments have been conducted on various images with
considerable background noise to reveal the efficacy and robustness.
Experimental results about the accuracy of the proposed method,
comparisons with Hough transform and its variants and other
tangential based methods are reported.
Abstract: In this paper we present a new method for coin
identification. The proposed method adopts a hybrid scheme using
Eigenvalues of covariance matrix, Circular Hough Transform (CHT)
and Bresenham-s circle algorithm. The statistical and geometrical
properties of the small and large Eigenvalues of the covariance
matrix of a set of edge pixels over a connected region of support are
explored for the purpose of circular object detection. Sparse matrix
technique is used to perform CHT. Since sparse matrices squeeze
zero elements and contain only a small number of non-zero elements,
they provide an advantage of matrix storage space and computational
time. Neighborhood suppression scheme is used to find the valid
Hough peaks. The accurate position of the circumference pixels is
identified using Raster scan algorithm which uses geometrical
symmetry property. After finding circular objects, the proposed
method uses the texture on the surface of the coins called texton,
which are unique properties of coins, refers to the fundamental micro
structure in generic natural images. This method has been tested on
several real world images including coin and non-coin images. The
performance is also evaluated based on the noise withstanding
capability.
