Abstract: Aggressive scaling of MOS devices requires use of ultra-thin gate oxides to maintain a reasonable short channel effect and to take the advantage of higher density, high speed, lower cost etc. Such thin oxides give rise to high electric fields, resulting in considerable gate tunneling current through gate oxide in nano regime. Consequently, accurate analysis of gate tunneling current is very important especially in context of low power application. In this paper, a simple and efficient analytical model has been developed for channel and source/drain overlap region gate tunneling current through ultra thin gate oxide n-channel MOSFET with inevitable deep submicron effect (DSME).The results obtained have been verified with simulated and reported experimental results for the purpose of validation. It is shown that the calculated tunnel current is well fitted to the measured one over the entire oxide thickness range. The proposed model is suitable enough to be used in circuit simulator due to its simplicity. It is observed that neglecting deep sub-micron effect may lead to large error in the calculated gate tunneling current. It is found that temperature has almost negligible effect on gate tunneling current. It is also reported that gate tunneling current reduces with the increase of gate oxide thickness. The impact of source/drain overlap length is also assessed on gate tunneling current.
Abstract: In this paper, we analyze the rotor eddy currents losses provoqued by the stator slot harmonics developed in the permanent magnets or pole pieces of synchronous machines. An analytical approach is presented to evaluate the effect of slot ripples on rotor field and losses calculation. This analysis is then tested on a model by 2D/3D finite element (FE) calculation. The results show a good agreement on loss calculations when skin effect is negligible and the magnet is considered.
Abstract: It is believed that continuously variable transmission (CVT) will dominate the automotive transmissions in the future. The most popular design is Van Doorne-s CVT with single metal pushing V-belt. However, it is only applicable to low power passenger cars because its major limitation is low torque capacity. Therefore, this research studies a novel dual-belt CVT system to overcome the limitation of traditional single-belt CVT, such that it can be applicable to the heavy-duty vehicles. This paper presents the mathematical model of the design and its experimental verification. Experimental and simulated results show that the model developed is valid and the proposed dual-belt CVT can really overcome the traditional limitation of single-belt Van Doorne-s CVT.
Abstract: This paper gives an overview of a deep drawing
process by pressurized liquid medium separated from the sheet by a
rubber diaphragm. Hydroforming deep drawing processing of sheet
metal parts provides a number of advantages over conventional
techniques. It generally increases the depth to diameter ratio possible
in cup drawing and minimizes the thickness variation of the drawn
cup. To explore the deformation mechanism, analytical and
numerical simulations are used for analyzing the drawing process of
an AA6061-T4 blank. The effects of key process parameters such as
coefficient of friction, initial thickness of the blank and radius
between cup wall and flange are investigated analytically and
numerically. The simulated results were in good agreement with the
results of the analytical model. According to finite element
simulations, the hydroforming deep drawing method provides a more
uniform thickness distribution compared to conventional deep
drawing and decreases the risk of tearing during the process.
Abstract: Today, node-disjoint routing becomes inessential
technique in communication of packets among various nodes in
networks. Meanwhile AODV (Ad Hoc On-demand Multipath
Distance Vector) creates single-path route between a pair of source
and destination nodes. Some researches has done so far to make
multipath node-disjoint routing based on AODV protocol. But
however their overhead and end-to-end delay are relatively high,
while the detail of their code is not available too. This paper proposes
a new approach of multipath node-disjoint routing based on AODV
protocol. Then the algorithm of analytical model is presented. The
extensive results of this algorithm will be presented in the next paper.
Abstract: This paper presents an analytical model to estimate
the cost of an optimized design of reinforced concrete isolated
footing base on structural safety. Flexural and optimized formulas for
square and rectangular footingare derived base on ACI building code
of design, material cost and optimization. The optimization
constraints consist of upper and lower limits of depth and area of
steel. Footing depth and area of reinforcing steel are to be minimized
to yield the optimal footing dimensions. Optimized footing materials
cost of concrete, reinforcing steel and formwork of the designed
sections are computed. Total cost factor TCF and other cost factors
are developed to generalize and simplify the calculations of footing
material cost. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the
model capability of estimating the material cost of the footing for a
desired axial load.
Abstract: Application of flexible structures has been
significantly, increased in industry and aerospace missions due to
their contributions and unique advantages over the rigid counterparts.
In this paper, vibration analysis of a flexible structure i.e., automobile
wiper blade is investigated and controlled. The wiper generates
unwanted noise and vibration during the wiping the rain and other
particles on windshield which may cause annoying noise in different
ranges of frequency. A two dimensional analytical modeled wiper
blade whose model accuracy is verified by numerical studies in
literature is considered in this study. Particle swarm optimization
(PSO) is employed in alliance with input shaping (IS) technique in
order to control or to attenuate the amplitude level of unwanted
noise/vibration of the wiper blade.
Abstract: Cylindrical concrete reservoirs are appropriate choice
for storing liquids as water, oil and etc. By using of the pre-cast
concrete reservoirs instead of the in-situ constructed reservoirs, the
speed and precision of the construction would considerably increase.
In this construction method, wall and roof panels would make in
factory with high quality materials and precise controlling. Then,
pre-cast wall and roof panels would carry out to the construction site
for assembling. This method has a few faults such as: the existing
weeks in connection of wall panels together and wall panels to
foundation. Therefore, these have to be resisted under applied loads
such as seismic load. One of the innovative methods which was
successfully applied for seismic retrofitting of numerous pre-cast
cylindrical water reservoirs in New Zealand, using of the high tensile
cables around the reservoirs and post-tensioning them. In this paper,
analytical modeling of wall and roof panels and post-tensioned
cables are carried out with finite element method and the effect of
height to diameter ratio, post-tensioning force value, liquid level in
reservoir, installing position of tendons on seismic response of
reservoirs are investigated.
Abstract: In this article, we propose a methodology for the
characterization of the suspended matter along Algiers-s bay. An
approach by multi layers perceptron (MLP) with training by back
propagation of the gradient optimized by the algorithm of Levenberg
Marquardt (LM) is used. The accent was put on the choice of the
components of the base of training where a comparative study made
for four methods: Random and three alternatives of classification by
K-Means. The samples are taken from suspended matter image,
obtained by analytical model based on polynomial regression by
taking account of in situ measurements. The mask which selects the
zone of interest (water in our case) was carried out by using a multi
spectral classification by ISODATA algorithm. To improve the
result of classification, a cleaning of this mask was carried out using
the tools of mathematical morphology. The results of this study
presented in the forms of curves, tables and of images show the
founded good of our methodology.
Abstract: A new numerical method for simultaneously updating mass and stiffness matrices based on incomplete modal measured data is presented. By using the Kronecker product, all the variables that are to be modified can be found out and then can be updated directly. The optimal approximation mass matrix and stiffness matrix which satisfy the required eigenvalue equation and orthogonality condition are found under the Frobenius norm sense. The physical configuration of the analytical model is preserved and the updated model will exactly reproduce the modal measured data. The numerical example seems to indicate that the method is quite accurate and efficient.
Abstract: Bone material is treated as heterogeneous and hierarchical in nature therefore appropriate size of bone specimen is required to analyze its tensile properties at a particular hierarchical level. Tensile properties of cortical bone are important to investigate the effect of drug treatment, disease and aging as well as for development of computational and analytical models. In the present study tensile properties of buffalo as well as goat femoral and tibiae cortical bone are analyzed using sub-size tensile specimens. Femoral cortical bone was found to be stronger in tension as compared to the tibiae cortical bone and the tensile properties obtained using sub-size specimens show close resemblance with the tensile properties of full-size cortical specimens. A two dimensional finite element (FE) modal was also applied to simulate the tensile behavior of sub-size specimens. Good agreement between experimental and FE model was obtained for sub-size tensile specimens of cortical bone.
Abstract: A simple analytical model has been developed to
optimize biasing conditions for obtaining maximum linearity among
lattice-matched, pseudomorphic and metamorphic HEMT types as
well as enhancement and depletion HEMT modes. A nonlinear
current-voltage model has been simulated based on extracted data to
study and select the most appropriate type and mode of HEMT in
terms of a given gate-source biasing voltage within the device so as
to employ the circuit for the highest possible output current or
voltage linear swing. Simulation results can be used as a basis for the
selection of optimum gate-source biasing voltage for a given type
and mode of HEMT with regard to a circuit design. The
consequences can also be a criterion for choosing the optimum type
or mode of HEMT for a predetermined biasing condition.
Abstract: A reliable estimate of the average bond stress within
the anchorage of steel reinforcing bars in tension is critically
important for the design of reinforced concrete member. This paper
describes part of a recently completed experimental research program
in the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and Safety (CIES) at the
University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia aimed at
assessing the effects of different factors on the anchorage
requirements of modern high strength steel reinforcing bars. The
study found that an increase in the anchorage length and bar diameter
generally leads to a reduction of the average ultimate bond stress. By
the extension of a well established analytical model of bond and
anchorage, it is shown here that the differences in the average
ultimate bond stress for different anchorage lengths is associated with
the variable degree of plastic deformation in the tensile zone of the
concrete surrounding the bar.
Abstract: A camera in the building site is exposed to different
weather conditions. Differences between images of the same scene
captured with the same camera arise also due to temperature variations.
The influence of temperature changes on camera parameters
were modelled and integrated into existing analytical camera model.
Modified camera model enables quantitatively assessing the influence
of temperature variations.
Abstract: Multiport diffusers are the effective engineering
devices installed at the modern marine outfalls for the steady
discharge of effluent streams from the coastal plants, such as
municipal sewage treatment, thermal power generation and seawater
desalination. A mathematical model using a two-dimensional
advection-diffusion equation based on a flat seabed and incorporating
the effect of a coastal tidal current is developed to calculate the
compounded concentration following discharges of desalination
brine from a sea outfall with multiport diffusers. The analytical
solutions are computed graphically to illustrate the merging of
multiple brine plumes in shallow coastal waters, and further
approximation will be made to the maximum shoreline's
concentration to formulate dilution of a multiport diffuser discharge.
Abstract: A new analytical model is developed which provides
close-formed solutions for both transient indoor and envelope
temperature changes in buildings. Time-dependent boundary
temperature is presented as Fourier series which can approximate real
weather conditions. The final close-formed solutions are simple,
concise, and comprehensive. The model was compared with
numerical results and good accuracy was obtained. The model can
be used as design and control guidelines in engineering applications
for analysing mechanical heat transfer properties for buildings.
Abstract: The main objective developed in this paper is to find a
graphic technique for modeling, simulation and diagnosis of the
industrial systems. This importance is much apparent when it is about
a complex system such as the nuclear reactor with pressurized water
of several form with various several non-linearity and time scales. In
this case the analytical approach is heavy and does not give a fast
idea on the evolution of the system. The tool Bond Graph enabled us
to transform the analytical model into graphic model and the
software of simulation SYMBOLS 2000 specific to the Bond Graphs
made it possible to validate and have the results given by the
technical specifications. We introduce the analysis of the problem
involved in the faults localization and identification in the complex
industrial processes. We propose a method of fault detection applied
to the diagnosis and to determine the gravity of a detected fault. We
show the possibilities of application of the new diagnosis approaches
to the complex system control. The industrial systems became
increasingly complex with the faults diagnosis procedures in the
physical systems prove to become very complex as soon as the
systems considered are not elementary any more. Indeed, in front of
this complexity, we chose to make recourse to Fault Detection and
Isolation method (FDI) by the analysis of the problem of its control
and to conceive a reliable system of diagnosis making it possible to
apprehend the complex dynamic systems spatially distributed applied
to the standard pressurized water nuclear reactor.
Abstract: It is important to provide possibility of so called
“handover" for the mobile subscriber from GSM network to Wi-Fi
network and back. To solve specified problem it is necessary to
estimate connection time between base station and wireless access
point. Difficulty to estimate this parameter is that it doesn-t described
in specifications of the standard and, hence, no recommended value
is given.
In this paper, the analytical model is presented that allows the
estimating connection time between base station and IEEE 802.11
access point.
Abstract: The paper presents a set of guidelines for analysis of industrial embedded distributed systems and introduces a mathematical model derived from these guidelines. In this study, the author examines a set of modern communication technologies that are or possibly can be used to build communication links between the subsystems of a distributed embedded system. An investigation of these guidelines results in a algorithm for analysis of specific use cases of target technologies. A goal of the paper acts as an important base for ongoing research on comparison of communication technologies. The author describes the principles of the model and presents results of the test calculations. Practical implementation of target technologies and empirical experiment data are based on a practical experience during the design and test of specific distributed systems in Latvian market.
Abstract: A multiple-option analytical model for the evaluation of the energy performance and distribution of aerodynamic forces acting on a vertical-axis Darrieus wind turbine depending on both rotor architecture and operating conditions is presented. For this purpose, a numerical algorithm, capable of generating the desired rotor conformation depending on design geometric parameters, is coupled to a Single/Double-Disk Multiple-Streamtube Blade Element – Momentum code. Both single and double-disk configurations are analyzed and model predictions are compared to literature experimental data in order to test the capability of the code for predicting rotor performance. Effective airfoil characteristics based on local blade Reynolds number are obtained through interpolation of literature low-Reynolds airfoil databases. Some corrections are introduced inside the original model with the aim of simulating also the effects of blade dynamic stall, rotor streamtube expansion and blade finite aspect ratio, for which a new empirical relationship to better fit the experimental data is proposed. In order to predict also open field rotor operation, a freestream wind shear profile is implemented, reproducing the effect of atmospheric boundary layer.
