Abstract: Cryptographic protocols are widely used in various
applications to provide secure communications. They are usually
represented as communicating agents that send and receive messages.
These agents use their knowledge to exchange information and
communicate with other agents involved in the protocol. An agent
knowledge can be partitioned into explicit knowledge and procedural
knowledge. The explicit knowledge refers to the set of information
which is either proper to the agent or directly obtained from other
agents through communication. The procedural knowledge relates to
the set of mechanisms used to get new information from what is
already available to the agent.
In this paper, we propose a mathematical framework which specifies
the explicit knowledge of an agent involved in a cryptographic
protocol. Modelling this knowledge is crucial for the specification,
analysis, and implementation of cryptographic protocols. We also,
report on a prototype tool that allows the representation and the
manipulation of the explicit knowledge.
Abstract: The selection of parents and breeding strategies for
the successful maize hybrid production will be facilitated by
heterotic groupings of parental lines and determination of combining
abilities of them. Fourteen maize inbred lines, used in maize breeding
programs in Iran, were crossed in a diallel mating design. The 91 F1
hybrids and the 14 parental lines were studied during two years at
four locations of Iran for investigation of combining ability of
gentypes for grain yield and to determine heterotic patterns among
germplasm sources, using both, the Griffing-s method and the biplot
approach for diallel analysis. The graphical representation offered by
biplot analysis allowed a rapid and effective overview of general
combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA)
effects of the inbred lines, their performance in crosses, as well as
grouping patterns of similar genotypes. GCA and SCA effects were
significant for grain yield (GY). Based on significant positive GCA
effects, the lines derived from LSC could be used as parent in crosses
to increase GY. The maximum best- parent heterosis values and
highest SCA effects resulted from crosses B73 × MO17 and A679 ×
MO17 for GY. The best heterotic patterns were LSC × RYD, which
would be potentially useful in maize breeding programs to obtain
high-yielding hybrids in the same climate of Iran.
Abstract: The mechanical quadrature methods for solving the boundary integral equations of the anisotropic Darcy-s equations with Dirichlet conditions in smooth domains are presented. By applying the collectively compact theory, we prove the convergence and stability of approximate solutions. The asymptotic expansions for the error show that the methods converge with the order O (h3), where h is the mesh size. Based on these analysis, extrapolation methods can be introduced to achieve a higher convergence rate O (h5). An a posterior asymptotic error representation is derived in order to construct self-adaptive algorithms. Finally, the numerical experiments show the efficiency of our methods.
Abstract: The data exchanged on the Web are of different nature
from those treated by the classical database management systems;
these data are called semi-structured data since they do not have a
regular and static structure like data found in a relational database;
their schema is dynamic and may contain missing data or types.
Therefore, the needs for developing further techniques and
algorithms to exploit and integrate such data, and extract relevant
information for the user have been raised. In this paper we present
the system OSIX (Osiris based System for Integration of XML
Sources). This system has a Data Warehouse model designed for the
integration of semi-structured data and more precisely for the
integration of XML documents. The architecture of OSIX relies on
the Osiris system, a DL-based model designed for the representation
and management of databases and knowledge bases. Osiris is a viewbased
data model whose indexing system supports semantic query
optimization. We show that the problem of query processing on a
XML source is optimized by the indexing approach proposed by
Osiris.
Abstract: Representing objects in a dynamic domain is essential
in commonsense reasoning under some circumstances. Classical logics
and their nonmonotonic consequences, however, are usually not
able to deal with reasoning with dynamic domains due to the fact that
every constant in the logical language denotes some existing object
in the static domain. In this paper, we explore a logical formalization
which allows us to represent nonexisting objects in commonsense
reasoning. A formal system named N-theory is proposed for this
purpose and its possible application in computer security is briefly
discussed.
Abstract: The paper contains an investigation of winding numbers
of paths of zeros of analytic theta functions. We have considered
briefly an analytic representation of finite quantum systems ZN.
The analytic functions on a torus have exactly N zeros. The brief
introduction to the zeros of analytic functions and there time evolution
is given. We have discussed the periodic finite quantum systems. We
have introduced the winding numbers in general. We consider the
winding numbers of the zeros of analytic theta functions.
Abstract: The paper contains an investigation on basic problems
about the zeros of analytic theta functions. A brief introduction to
analytic representation of finite quantum systems is given. The zeros
of this function and there evolution time are discussed. Two open
problems are introduced. The first problem discusses the cases when
the zeros follow the same path. As the basis change the quantum state
|f transforms into different quantum state. The second problem is
to define a map between two toruses where the domain and the range
of this map are the analytic functions on toruses.
Abstract: Retrieval image by shape similarity, given a template
shape is particularly challenging, owning to the difficulty to derive a
similarity measurement that closely conforms to the common
perception of similarity by humans. In this paper, a new method for the
representation and comparison of shapes is present which is based on
the shape matrix and snake model. It is scaling, rotation, translation
invariant. And it can retrieve the shape images with some missing or
occluded parts. In the method, the deformation spent by the template
to match the shape images and the matching degree is used to evaluate
the similarity between them.
Abstract: This paper presents modeling and optimization of two NP-hard problems in flexible manufacturing system (FMS), part type selection problem and loading problem. Due to the complexity and extent of the problems, the paper was split into two parts. The first part of the papers has discussed the modeling of the problems and showed how the real coded genetic algorithms (RCGA) can be applied to solve the problems. This second part discusses the effectiveness of the RCGA which uses an array of real numbers as chromosome representation. The novel proposed chromosome representation produces only feasible solutions which minimize a computational time needed by GA to push its population toward feasible search space or repair infeasible chromosomes. The proposed RCGA improves the FMS performance by considering two objectives, maximizing system throughput and maintaining the balance of the system (minimizing system unbalance). The resulted objective values are compared to the optimum values produced by branch-and-bound method. The experiments show that the proposed RCGA could reach near optimum solutions in a reasonable amount of time.
Abstract: Models are placed by modeling paradigm at the center of development process. These models are represented by languages, like UML the language standardized by the OMG which became necessary for development. Moreover the ontology engineering paradigm places ontologies at the center of development process; in this paradigm we find OWL the principal language for knowledge representation. Building ontologies from scratch is generally a difficult task. The bridging between UML and OWL appeared on several regards such as the classes and associations. In this paper, we have to profit from convergence between UML and OWL to propose an approach based on Meta-Modelling and Graph Grammars and registered in the MDA architecture for the automatic generation of OWL ontologies from UML class diagrams. The transformation is based on transformation rules; the level of abstraction in these rules is close to the application in order to have usable ontologies. We illustrate this approach by an example.
Abstract: Computerized alarm systems have been applied
increasingly to nuclear power plants. For existing plants, an add-on
computer alarm system is often installed to the control rooms. Alarm
avalanches during the plant transients are major problems with the
alarm systems in nuclear power plants. Computerized alarm systems
can process alarms to reduce the number of alarms during the plant
transients. This paper describes various alarm processing methods, an
alarm cause tracking function, and various alarm presentation schemes
to show alarm information to the operators effectively which are
considered during the development of several computerized alarm
systems for Korean nuclear power plants and are found to be helpful to
the operators.
Abstract: A model of vortex wake is suggested to determine the
induced power during animal hovering flight. The wake is modeled
by a series of equi-spaced rigid rectangular vortex plates, positioned
horizontally and moving vertically downwards with identical speeds;
each plate is generated during powering of the functionally wing
stroke. The vortex representation of the wake considered in the
current theory allows a considerable loss of momentum to occur. The
current approach accords well with the nature of the wingbeat since it
considers the unsteadiness in the wake as an important fluid
dynamical characteristic. Induced power in hovering is calculated as
the aerodynamic power required to generate the vortex wake system.
Specific mean induced power to mean wing tip velocity ratio is
determined by solely the normal spacing parameter (f) for a given
wing stroke amplitude. The current theory gives much higher specific
induced power estimate than anticipated by classical methods.
Abstract: The study of a real function of two real variables can be supported by visualization using a Computer Algebra System (CAS). One type of constraints of the system is due to the algorithms implemented, yielding continuous approximations of the given function by interpolation. This often masks discontinuities of the function and can provide strange plots, not compatible with the mathematics. In recent years, point based geometry has gained increasing attention as an alternative surface representation, both for efficient rendering and for flexible geometry processing of complex surfaces. In this paper we present different artifacts created by mesh surfaces near discontinuities and propose a point based method that controls and reduces these artifacts. A least squares penalty method for an automatic generation of the mesh that controls the behavior of the chosen function is presented. The special feature of this method is the ability to improve the accuracy of the surface visualization near a set of interior points where the function may be discontinuous. The present method is formulated as a minimax problem and the non uniform mesh is generated using an iterative algorithm. Results show that for large poorly conditioned matrices, the new algorithm gives more accurate results than the classical preconditioned conjugate algorithm.
Abstract: The number of framework conceived for e-learning
constantly increase, unfortunately the creators of learning materials
and educational institutions engaged in e-formation adopt a
“proprietor" approach, where the developed products (courses,
activities, exercises, etc.) can be exploited only in the framework
where they were conceived, their uses in the other learning
environments requires a greedy adaptation in terms of time and
effort. Each one proposes courses whose organization, contents,
modes of interaction and presentations are unique for all learners,
unfortunately the latter are heterogeneous and are not interested by
the same information, but only by services or documents adapted to
their needs. Currently the new tendency for the framework
conceived for e-learning, is the interoperability of learning materials,
several standards exist (DCMI (Dublin Core Metadata Initiative)[2],
LOM (Learning Objects Meta data)[1], SCORM (Shareable Content
Object Reference Model)[6][7][8], ARIADNE (Alliance of Remote
Instructional Authoring and Distribution Networks for Europe)[9],
CANCORE (Canadian Core Learning Resource Metadata
Application Profiles)[3]), they converge all to the idea of learning
objects. They are also interested in the adaptation of the learning
materials according to the learners- profile. This article proposes an
approach for the composition of courses adapted to the various
profiles (knowledge, preferences, objectives) of learners, based on
two ontologies (domain to teach and educational) and the learning
objects.
Abstract: A complete spectral representation for the
electromagnetic field of planar multilayered waveguides
inhomogeneously filled with omega media is presented. The problem
of guided electromagnetic propagation is reduced to an eigenvalue
equation related to a 2 ´ 2 matrix differential operator. Using the
concept of adjoint waveguide, general bi-orthogonality relations for
the hybrid modes (either from the discrete or from the continuous
spectrum) are derived. For the special case of homogeneous layers
the linear operator formalism is reduced to a simple 2 ´ 2 coupling
matrix eigenvalue problem. Finally, as an example of application, the
surface and the radiation modes of a grounded omega slab waveguide
are analyzed.
Abstract: More and more home videos are being generated with the ever growing popularity of digital cameras and camcorders. For many home videos, a photo rendering, whether capturing a moment or a scene within the video, provides a complementary representation to the video. In this paper, a video motion mining framework for creative rendering is presented. The user-s capture intent is derived by analyzing video motions, and respective metadata is generated for each capture type. The metadata can be used in a number of applications, such as creating video thumbnail, generating panorama posters, and producing slideshows of video.
Abstract: Using a scoring system, this paper provides a
comparative assessment of the quality of data between XBRL
formatted financial reports and non-XBRL financial reports. It shows a
major improvement in the quality of data of XBRL formatted financial
reports. Although XBRL formatted financial reports do not show
much advantage in the quality at the beginning, XBRL financial
reports lately display a large improvement in the quality of data in
almost all aspects. With the improved XBRL web data managing,
presentation and analysis applications, XBRL formatted financial
reports have a much better accessibility, are more accurate and better
in timeliness.
Abstract: The school / university orientation interests a broad and
often badly informed public. Technically, it is an important
multicriterion decision problem, which supposes the combination of
much academic professional and/or lawful knowledge, which in turn
justifies software resorting to the techniques of Artificial Intelligence.
CORUS is an expert system of the "Conseil et ORientation
Universitaire et Scolaire", based on a knowledge representation
language (KRL) with rules and objects, called/ known as Ibn Rochd.
CORUS was developed thanks to DéGSE, a workshop of cognitive
engineering which supports this LRC. CORUS works out many
acceptable solutions for the case considered, and retains the most
satisfactory among them. Several versions of CORUS have extended
its services gradually.
Abstract: This article illustrates a model selection management approach for virtual prototypes in interactive simulations. In those numerical simulations, the virtual prototype and its environment are modelled as a multiagent system, where every entity (prototype, human, etc.) is modelled as an agent. In particular, virtual prototyp ingagents that provide mathematical models of mechanical behaviour inform of computational methods are considered. This work argues that selection of an appropriate model in a changing environment, supported by models? characteristics, can be managed by the deter-mination a priori of specific exploitation and performance measures of virtual prototype models. As different models exist to represent a single phenomenon, it is not always possible to select the best one under all possible circumstances of the environment. Instead the most appropriate shall be selecting according to the use case. The proposed approach consists in identifying relevant metrics or indicators for each group of models (e.g. entity models, global model), formulate their qualification, analyse the performance, and apply the qualification criteria. Then, a model can be selected based on the performance prediction obtained from its qualification. The authors hope that this approach will not only help to inform engineers and researchers about another approach for selecting virtual prototype models, but also assist virtual prototype engineers in the systematic or automatic model selection.
Abstract: In order to provide existing SOAP (Simple Object
Access Protocol)-based Web services with users who are familiar with
REST (REpresentational State Transfer)-style Web services, this
paper proposes Web service providing method using Web service
transformation. This enables SOAP-based service providers to define
rules for mapping from RESTful Web services to SOAP-based ones.
Using these mapping rules, HTTP request messages for RESTful
services are converted automatically into SOAP-based service
invocations. Web service providers need not develop duplicate
RESTful services and they can avoid programming mediation
modules per service. Furthermore, they need not equip mediation
middleware like ESB (Enterprise Service Bus) only for the purpose of
transformation of two different Web service styles.
