Abstract: Y chromosome microdeletions are the most common
genetic cause of male infertility and screening for these
microdeletions in azoospermic or severely oligospermic men is now
standard practice. Analysis of the Y chromosome in men with
azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia has resulted in the
identification of three regions in the euchromatic part of the long arm
of the human Y chromosome (Yq11) that are frequently deleted in
men with otherwise unexplained spermatogenic failure. PCR analysis
of microdeletions in the AZFa, AZFb and AZFc regions of the
human Y chromosome is an important screening tool. The aim of this
study was to analyse the type of microdeletions in men with fertility
disorders in Slovakia. We evaluated 227 patients with azoospermia
and with normal karyotype. All patient samples were analyzed
cytogenetically. For PCR amplification of sequence-tagged sites
(STS) of the AZFa, AZFb and AZFc regions of the Y chromosome
was used Devyser AZF set. Fluorescently labeled primers for all
markers in one multiplex PCR reaction were used and for automated
visualization and identification of the STS markers we used genetic
analyzer ABi 3500xl (Life Technologies). We reported 13 cases of
deletions in the AZF region 5,73%. Particular types of deletions were
recorded in each region AZFa,b,c .The presence of microdeletions in
the AZFc region was the most frequent. The study confirmed that
percentage of microdeletions in the AZF region is low in Slovak
azoospermic patients, but important from a prognostic view.
Abstract: A model of (4, 4) single-walled boron-nitride nanotube as a representative of armchair boron-nitride nanotubes studied. At first the structure optimization performed and then Nuclear Magnetic Resonance parameters (NMR) by Density Functional Theory (DFT) method at 11B and 15N nuclei calculated. Resulted parameters evaluation presents electrostatic environment heterogeneity along the nanotube and especially at the ends but the nuclei in a layer feel the same electrostatic environment. All of calculations carried out using Gaussian 98 Software package.
Abstract: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were
performed to compute nitrogen-14 and boron-11 nuclear quadrupole
resonance (NQR) spectroscopy parameters in the representative
model of armchair boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) for the first time.
The considered model consisting of 1 nm length of H-capped (5, 5)
single-wall BNNT were first allowed to fully relax and then the NQR
calculations were carried out on the geometrically optimized model.
The evaluated nuclear quadrupole coupling constants and asymmetry
parameters for the mentioned nuclei reveal that the model can be
divided into seven layers of nuclei with an equivalent electrostatic
environment where those nuclei at the ends of tubes have a very
strong electrostatic environment compared to the other nuclei along
the length of tubes. The calculations were performed via Gaussian 98
package of program.
Abstract: Adhesively bonded joints are preferred over the
conventional methods of joining such as riveting, welding, bolting
and soldering. Some of the main advantages of adhesive joints
compared to conventional joints are the ability to join dissimilar
materials and damage-sensitive materials, better stress distribution,
weight reduction, fabrication of complicated shapes, excellent
thermal and insulation properties, vibration response and enhanced
damping control, smoother aerodynamic surfaces and an
improvement in corrosion and fatigue resistance. This paper presents
the behavior of adhesively bonded joints subjected to combined
thermal loadings, using the numerical methods. The joint
configuration considers aluminum as central adherend with six
different outer adherends including aluminum, steel, titanium, boronepoxy,
unidirectional graphite-epoxy and cross-ply graphite-epoxy
and epoxy-based adhesives. Free expansion of the joint in x
direction was permitted and stresses in adhesive layer and interfaces
calculated for different adherends.
Abstract: Obesity is frequent attendant phenomenon of patients
with endocrinological disease. Between BMI and endocrinological
diseases is close correlation. In thesis we focused on the allocation of
hormone concentration – PTH and TSH, CHOL a mineral element Ca
in a blood serum. The examined group was formed by 100
respondents (women) aged 36 – 83 years, who were divided into two
groups – control group (CG), group with diagnosed endocrine disease
(DED). The concentration of PTH and TSH, Ca and CHOL was
measured through the medium of analyzers Cobas e411 (Japan);
Cobas Integra 400 (Switzerland). At individuals was measured body
weight as well as stature and thereupon from those data we
enumerated BMI. On the basis of Student T-test in biochemical
parameter of PTH and Ca we found out significantly meaningful
difference (p
Abstract: Magnesium wastes and scraps, one of the metal wastes, are produced by many industrial activities, all over the world. Their growing size is becoming a future problem for the world. In this study, the use of magnesium wastes as a raw material in the production of the magnesium borate hydrates are aimed. The method used in the experiments is hydrothermal synthesis. The conditions are set to, waste magnesium to B2O3, 1:3 as a molar ratio. Four different reaction times are studied which are 30, 60, 120 and 240 minutes. For the identification analyses X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopy techniques are used. As a result at all the reaction times magnesium borate hydrates are synthesized and the most crystalline forms are obtained at a reaction time of 120 minutes. The overall yields of the production are found between the values of 65-80 %.
Abstract: The result of process of territory-s development is the territory-s state of development (TSoD), which is pointed towards the provision and improvement of people-s life conditions. The authors offer to measure the TSoD according to their own developed model. Using the available statistical data regarding the values of model-s elements, the authors empirically show which element mainly determines the TSoD. The findings of the research showed that the key elements of the TSoD are the “Material welfare of people" and “People-s health". Performing a deeper statistical analysis of correlation between these elements, it turned out that it is not so necessary for a country to be bent on trying to increase the material growth of a territory, because a relatively high index of life expectancy at birth could be ensured also by much more modest material resources. On the other hand, the economical feedback of longer lifespan within countries with lower material performance is also relatively low.
Abstract: In turning hardened steel, polycrystalline cubic boron
nitride (cBN) compacts are widely used, due to their higher hardness
and higher thermal conductivity. However, in milling hardened steel,
fracture of cBN cutting tools readily occurs because they have poor
fracture toughness. Therefore, coated cemented carbide tools, which
have good fracture toughness and wear resistance, are generally
widely used. In this study, hardened steel (ASTM D2, JIS SKD11,
60HRC) was milled with three physical vapor deposition
(PVD)-coated cemented carbide end mill cutters in order to determine
effective tool materials for cutting hardened steel at high cutting
speeds. The coating films used were (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si)N and
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N coating films. (Ti,W,Si,Al)N is a new type of
coating film. The inner layer of the (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si)N and
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N coating system is (Ti,W)N coating film, and
the outer layer is (Ti,W,Si)N and (Ti,W,Si,Al)N coating films,
respectively. Furthermore, commercial (Ti,Al)N-based coating film
was also used. The following results were obtained: (1) In milling
hardened steel at a cutting speed of 3.33 m/s, the tool wear width of the
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated tool was smaller than that of the
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si)N-coated tool. And, compared with the commercial
(Ti,Al)N, the tool wear width of the (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated
tool was smaller than that of the (Ti,Al)N-coated tool. (2) The tool
wear of the (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated tool increased with an
increase in cutting speed. (3) The (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated
cemented carbide was an effective tool material for high-speed cutting
below a cutting speed of 3.33 m/s.
