Abstract: This paper challenges the relevance of knowledgebased
management research by arguing that the majority of the
literature emphasizes information and knowledge provision instead of
their business usage. For this reason the related processes are
considered valuable and eligible as such, which has led to
overlapping nature of knowledge-based management disciplines. As
a solution, this paper turns the focus on the information usage. Value
of knowledge and respective management tasks are then defined by
the business need and the knowledge-user becomes the main actor.
The paper analyses the prevailing literature streams and recognizes
the need for a more focused and robust understanding of knowledgebased
value creation. The paper contributes by synthetizing the
existing literature and pinpointing the essence of knowledge-based
management disciplines.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel multi-format stream grid
architecture for real-time image monitoring system. The system, based
on a three-tier architecture, includes stream receiving unit, stream
processor unit, and presentation unit. It is a distributed computing and
a loose coupling architecture. The benefit is the amount of required
servers can be adjusted depending on the loading of the image
monitoring system. The stream receive unit supports multi capture
source devices and multi-format stream compress encoder. Stream
processor unit includes three modules; they are stream clipping
module, image processing module and image management module.
Presentation unit can display image data on several different platforms.
We verified the proposed grid architecture with an actual test of image
monitoring. We used a fast image matching method with the
adjustable parameters for different monitoring situations. Background
subtraction method is also implemented in the system. Experimental
results showed that the proposed architecture is robust, adaptive, and
powerful in the image monitoring system.
Abstract: Crude oil blending is an important unit operation in
petroleum refining industry. A good model for the blending system is
beneficial for supervision operation, prediction of the export
petroleum quality and realizing model-based optimal control. Since
the blending cannot follow the ideal mixing rule in practice, we
propose a static neural network to approximate the blending
properties. By the dead-zone approach, we propose a new robust
learning algorithm and give theoretical analysis. Real data of crude
oil blending is applied to illustrate the neuro modeling approach.
Abstract: An approach of design of stable of control systems with ultimately wide ranges of uncertainly disturbed parameters is offered. The method relies on using of nonlinear structurally stable functions from catastrophe theory as controllers. Theoretical part presents an analysis of designed nonlinear second-order control systems. As more important the integrators in series, canonical controllable form and Jordan forms are considered. The analysis resumes that due to added controllers systems become stable and insensitive to any disturbance of parameters. Experimental part presents MATLAB simulation of design of control systems of epidemic spread, aircrafts angular motion and submarine depth. Abstract: The binary phase-only filter digital watermarking
embeds the phase information of the discrete Fourier transform of the
image into the corresponding magnitudes for better image authentication.
The paper proposed an approach of how to implement watermark
embedding by quantizing the magnitude, with discussing how to
regulate the quantization steps based on the frequencies of the magnitude
coefficients of the embedded watermark, and how to embed the
watermark at low frequency quantization. The theoretical analysis and
simulation results show that algorithm flexibility, security, watermark
imperceptibility and detection performance of the binary phase-only
filter digital watermarking can be effectively improved with quantization
based watermark embedding, and the robustness against JPEG
compression will also be increased to some extent.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose an efficient hierarchical DNA
sequence search method to improve the search speed while the
accuracy is being kept constant. For a given query DNA sequence,
firstly, a fast local search method using histogram features is used as a
filtering mechanism before scanning the sequences in the database.
An overlapping processing is newly added to improve the robustness
of the algorithm. A large number of DNA sequences with low
similarity will be excluded for latter searching. The Smith-Waterman
algorithm is then applied to each remainder sequences. Experimental
results using GenBank sequence data show the proposed method
combining histogram information and Smith-Waterman algorithm is
more efficient for DNA sequence search.
Abstract: Duplicated region detection is a technical method to
expose copy-paste forgeries on digital images. Copy-paste is one
of the common types of forgeries to clone portion of an image
in order to conceal or duplicate special object. In this type of
forgery detection, extracting robust block feature and also high
time complexity of matching step are two main open problems.
This paper concentrates on computational time and proposes a local
block matching algorithm based on block clustering to enhance time
complexity. Time complexity of the proposed algorithm is formulated
and effects of two parameter, block size and number of cluster, on
efficiency of this algorithm are considered. The experimental results
and mathematical analysis demonstrate this algorithm is more costeffective
than lexicographically algorithms in time complexity issue
when the image is complex.
Abstract: A novel robust audio watermarking scheme is
proposed in this paper. In the proposed scheme, the host audio signals
are segmented into frames. Two consecutive frames are assessed if
they are suitable to represent a watermark bit. If so, frequency
transform is performed on these two frames. The compressionexpansion
technique is adopted to generate distortion over the two
frames. The distortion is used to represent one watermark bit.
Psychoacoustic model is applied to calculate local auditory mask to
ensure that the distortion is not audible. The watermarking schemes
using mono and stereo audio signals are designed differently. The
correlation-based detection method is used to detect the distortion
and extract embedded watermark bits. The experimental results show
that the quality degradation caused by the embedded watermarks is
perceptually transparent and the proposed schemes are very robust
against different types of attacks.
Abstract: Concurrency and synchronization are becoming big
issues as every new PC comes with multi-core processors. A major
reason for Object-Oriented Programming originally was to enable
easier reuse: encode your algorithm into a class and thoroughly
debug it, then you can reuse the class again and again. However,
when we get to concurrency and synchronization, this is often not
possible. Thread-safety issues means that synchronization constructs
need to be entangled into every class involved. We contributed a
detailed literature review of issues and challenges in concurrent
programming and present a methodology that uses the Aspect-
Oriented paradigm to address this problem. Aspects will allow us to
extract the synchronization concerns as schemes to be “weaved in"
later into the main code. This allows the aspects to be separately
tested and verified. Hence, the functional components can be weaved
with reusable synchronization schemes that are robust and scalable.
Abstract: In this work a visual and reactive contour following
behaviour is learned by reinforcement. With artificial vision the
environment is perceived in 3D, and it is possible to avoid obstacles
that are invisible to other sensors that are more common in mobile
robotics. Reinforcement learning reduces the need for intervention in
behaviour design, and simplifies its adjustment to the environment,
the robot and the task. In order to facilitate its generalisation to other
behaviours and to reduce the role of the designer, we propose a
regular image-based codification of states. Even though this is much
more difficult, our implementation converges and is robust. Results
are presented with a Pioneer 2 AT on a Gazebo 3D simulator.
Abstract: One of the most attractive and important field of chaos theory is control of chaos. In this paper, we try to present a simple framework for chaotic motion control using the feedback linearization method. Using this approach, we derive a strategy, which can be easily applied to the other chaotic systems. This task presents two novel results: the desired periodic orbit need not be a solution of the original dynamics and the other is the robustness of response against parameter variations. The illustrated simulations show the ability of these. In addition, by a comparison between a conventional state feedback and our proposed method it is demonstrated that the introduced technique is more efficient.
Abstract: Clustering techniques have received attention in many areas including engineering, medicine, biology and data mining. The purpose of clustering is to group together data points, which are close to one another. The K-means algorithm is one of the most widely used techniques for clustering. However, K-means has two shortcomings: dependency on the initial state and convergence to local optima and global solutions of large problems cannot found with reasonable amount of computation effort. In order to overcome local optima problem lots of studies done in clustering. This paper is presented an efficient hybrid evolutionary optimization algorithm based on combining Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), called PSO-ACO, for optimally clustering N object into K clusters. The new PSO-ACO algorithm is tested on several data sets, and its performance is compared with those of ACO, PSO and K-means clustering. The simulation results show that the proposed evolutionary optimization algorithm is robust and suitable for handing data clustering.
Abstract: In the last years numerous applications of Human-
Computer Interaction have exploited the capabilities of Time-of-
Flight cameras for achieving more and more comfortable and precise
interactions. In particular, gesture recognition is one of the most active
fields. This work presents a new method for interacting with a virtual
object in a 3D space. Our approach is based on the fusion of depth
data, supplied by a ToF camera, with color information, supplied
by a HD webcam. The hand detection procedure does not require
any learning phase and is able to concurrently manage gestures of
two hands. The system is robust to the presence in the scene of
other objects or people, thanks to the use of the Kalman filter for
maintaining the tracking of the hands.
Abstract: This paper presents a general trainable framework
for fast and robust upright human face and non-human object
detection and verification in static images. To enhance the
performance of the detection process, the technique we develop is
based on the combination of fast neural network (FNN) and
classical neural network (CNN). In FNN, a useful correlation is
exploited to sustain high level of detection accuracy between input
image and the weight of the hidden neurons. This is to enable the
use of Fourier transform that significantly speed up the time
detection. The combination of CNN is responsible to verify the
face region. A bootstrap algorithm is used to collect non human
object, which adds the false detection to the training process of the
human and non-human object. Experimental results on test images
with both simple and complex background demonstrate that the
proposed method has obtained high detection rate and low false
positive rate in detecting both human face and non-human object.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is applied Taguchi method on the optimization for PEMFC performance, and a representative Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model is selectively performed for statistical analysis. The studied factors in this paper are pressure of fuel cell, operating temperature, the relative humidity of anode and cathode, porosity of gas diffusion electrode (GDE) and conductivity of GDE. The optimal combination for maximum power density is gained by using a three-level statistical method. The results confirmed that the robustness of the optimum design parameters influencing the performance of fuel cell are founded by pressure of fuel cell, 3atm; operating temperature, 353K; the relative humidity of anode, 50%; conductivity of GDE, 1000 S/m, but the relative humidity of cathode and porosity of GDE are pooled as error due to a small sum of squares. The present simulation results give designers the ideas ratify the effectiveness of the proposed robust design methodology for the performance of fuel cell.
Abstract: Ethnicity identification of face images is of interest in
many areas of application, but existing methods are few and limited.
This paper presents a fusion scheme that uses block-based uniform
local binary patterns and Haar wavelet transform to combine local
and global features. In particular, the LL subband coefficients of the
whole face are fused with the histograms of uniform local binary
patterns from block partitions of the face. We applied the principal
component analysis on the fused features and managed to reduce the
dimensionality of the feature space from 536 down to around 15
without sacrificing too much accuracy. We have conducted a number
of preliminary experiments using a collection of 746 subject face
images. The test results show good accuracy and demonstrate the
potential of fusing global and local features. The fusion approach is
robust, making it easy to further improve the identification at both
feature and score levels.
Abstract: A model-free robust control (MFRC) approach is proposed for position control of robot manipulators in the state space. The control approach is verified analytically to be robust subject to uncertainties including external disturbances, unmodeled dynamics, and parametric uncertainties. There is a high flexibility to work on different systems including actuators by the use of the proposed control approach. The proposed control approach can guarantee the robustness of control system. A PUMA 560 robot driven by geared permanent magnet dc motors is simulated. The simulation results show a satisfactory performance for control system under technical specifications. Abstract: Resource Discovery in Grids is critical for efficient
resource allocation and management. Heterogeneous nature and
dynamic availability of resources make resource discovery a
challenging task. As numbers of nodes are increasing from tens to
thousands, scalability is essentially desired. Peer-to-Peer (P2P)
techniques, on the other hand, provide effective implementation of
scalable services and applications. In this paper we propose a model
for resource discovery in Condor Middleware by using the four axis
framework defined in P2P approach. The proposed model enhances
Condor to incorporate functionality of a P2P system, thus aim to
make Condor more scalable, flexible, reliable and robust.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a robust controller design method for discrete-time systems with sector-bounded nonlinearities and time-varying delay. Based on the Lyapunov theory, delaydependent stabilization criteria are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) by constructing the new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and using some inequalities. A robust state feedback controller is designed by LMI framework and a reciprocally convex combination technique. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified throughout a numerical example.
Abstract: This paper describes the application of a model predictive controller to the problem of batch reactor temperature control. Although a great deal of work has been done to improve reactor throughput using batch sequence control, the control of the actual reactor temperature remains a difficult problem for many operators of these processes. Temperature control is important as many chemical reactions are sensitive to temperature for formation of desired products. This controller consist of two part (1) a nonlinear control method GLC (Global Linearizing Control) to create a linear model of system and (2) a Model predictive controller used to obtain optimal input control sequence. The temperature of reactor is tuned to track a predetermined temperature trajectory that applied to the batch reactor. To do so two input signals, electrical powers and the flow of coolant in the coil are used. Simulation results show that the proposed controller has a remarkable performance for tracking reference trajectory while at the same time it is robust against noise imposed to system output.
