Abstract: This paper describes the design and implementation of cyber video consultation systems(CVCS) using hybrid P2P for video consultation between remote sites. The proposed system is based on client-server and P2P(Peer to Peer) architecture, where client-server is used for communication with the MCU(Multipoint Control Unit) and P2P is used for the cyber video consultation. The developed video consultation system decreases server traffic, and cuts down network expenses, as the multimedia data decentralizes to the client by hybrid P2P architecture. Also the developed system is tested by the group-type video consultation system using communication protocol and application software through Ethernet networks.
Abstract: Baseball is unique among other sports in Taiwan.
Baseball has become a “symbol of the Taiwanese spirit and Taiwan-s
national sport". Taiwan-s first professional sports league, the Chinese
Professional Baseball League (CPBL), was established in 1989.
Starters pitch many more innings over the course of a season and for
a century teams have made all their best pitchers starters. In this
study, we attempt to determine the on-field performance these
pitchers and which won the most CPBL games in 2009. We utilize
the discriminate analysis approach to solve the problem, examining
winning pitchers and their statistics, to reliably find the best starting
pitcher. The data employed in this paper include innings pitched (IP),
earned runs allowed (ERA) and walks plus hits per inning pitched
(WPHIP) provided by the official website of the CPBL. The results
show that Aaron Rakers was the best starting pitcher of the CPBL.
The top 10 CPBL starting pitchers won 14 games to 8 games in the
2009 season. Though Fisher Discriminant Analysis, predicted to top
10 CPBL starting pitchers probably won 20 games to 9 games, more
1 game to 7 games in actually counts in 2009 season.
Abstract: In this paper, a new approach for target recognition based on the Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm of Huang etal. [11] and the energy tracking operator of Teager [13]-[14] is introduced. The conjunction of these two methods is called Teager-Huang analysis. This approach is well suited for nonstationary signals analysis. The impulse response (IR) of target is first band pass filtered into subsignals (components) called Intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) with well defined Instantaneous frequency (IF) and Instantaneous amplitude (IA). Each IMF is a zero-mean AM-FM component. In second step, the energy of each IMF is tracked using the Teager energy operator (TEO). IF and IA, useful to describe the time-varying characteristics of the signal, are estimated using the Energy separation algorithm (ESA) algorithm of Maragos et al .[16]-[17]. In third step, a set of features such as skewness and kurtosis are extracted from the IF, IA and IMF energy functions. The Teager-Huang analysis is tested on set of synthetic IRs of Sonar targets with different physical characteristics (density, velocity, shape,? ). PCA is first applied to features to discriminate between manufactured and natural targets. The manufactured patterns are classified into spheres and cylinders. One hundred percent of correct recognition is achieved with twenty three echoes where sixteen IRs, used for training, are free noise and seven IRs, used for testing phase, are corrupted with white Gaussian noise.
Abstract: In this work, we are interested in developing a speech denoising tool by using a discrete wavelet packet transform (DWPT). This speech denoising tool will be employed for applications of recognition, coding and synthesis. For noise reduction, instead of applying the classical thresholding technique, some wavelet packet nodes are set to zero and the others are thresholded. To estimate the non stationary noise level, we employ the spectral entropy. A comparison of our proposed technique to classical denoising methods based on thresholding and spectral subtraction is made in order to evaluate our approach. The experimental implementation uses speech signals corrupted by two sorts of noise, white and Volvo noises. The obtained results from listening tests show that our proposed technique is better than spectral subtraction. The obtained results from SNR computation show the superiority of our technique when compared to the classical thresholding method using the modified hard thresholding function based on u-law algorithm.
Abstract: This Paper proposes a new facial feature extraction approach, Wash-Hadamard Transform (WHT). This approach is based on correlation between local pixels of the face image. Its primary advantage is the simplicity of its computation. The paper compares the proposed approach, WHT, which was traditionally used in data compression with two other known approaches: the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) using the face database of Olivetti Research Laboratory (ORL). In spite of its simple computation, the proposed algorithm (WHT) gave very close results to those obtained by the PCA and DCT. This paper initiates the research into WHT and the family of frequency transforms and examines their suitability for feature extraction in face recognition applications.
Abstract: The presented article deals with the description of a
numerical model of a corridor at a Central Interim Spent Fuel Storage
Facility (hereinafter CISFSF). The model takes into account the
effect of air flows on the temperature of stored waste. The
computational model was implemented in the ANSYS/CFX
programming environment in the form of a CFD task solution, which
was compared with an approximate analytical calculation. The article
includes a categorization of the individual alternatives for the
ventilation of such underground systems. The aim was to evaluate a
ventilation system for a CISFSF with regard to its stability and
capacity to provide sufficient ventilation for the removal of heat
produced by stored casks with spent nuclear fuel.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the flow unsteady behavior for moving plug in convergent-divergent variable thrust nozzle. Compressible axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations are used to study this physical phenomenon. Different velocities are set for plug to investigate the effect of plug movement on flow unsteadiness. Variation of mass flow rate and thrust are compared under two conditions: First, the plug is placed at different positions and flow is simulated to reach the steady state (quasi steady simulation) and second, the plug is moved with assigned velocity and flow simulation is coupled with plug movement (unsteady simulation). If plug speed is high enough and its movement time scale is at the same order of the flow time scale, variation of the mass flow rate and thrust level versus plug position demonstrate a vital discrepancy under the quasi steady and unsteady conditions. This phenomenon should be considered especially from response time viewpoints in thrusters design.
Abstract: 4G Communication Networks provide heterogeneous
wireless technologies to mobile subscribers through IP based
networks and users can avail high speed access while roaming across
multiple wireless channels; possible by an organized way to manage
the Quality of Service (QoS) functionalities in these networks. This
paper proposes the idea of developing a novel QoS optimization
architecture that will judge the user requirements and knowing peak
times of services utilization can save the bandwidth/cost factors. The
proposed architecture can be customized according to the network
usage priorities so as to considerably improve a network-s QoS
performance.

Abstract: This paper is aimed to study the roles of leadership and innovation in the development of local people based ecotourism
services. The survey is conducted in Candirejo village, Borobudur District, Magelang Regency. The study of a descriptive approach is employed to identify people's behavior in ecotourism services. The results showed that ecotourism services have developed and provided benefits to the people. The roles of leadership and innovation interact positively with a cooperative to organize an ecotourism services management. The leadership is able to identify substances, to do the vision and missions of environmental and cultural conservation. The innovation provides alternative development efforts and increases the added value of ecotourism. The cooperative management was able to support a process to realize the goals of ecotourism, to build participation and communication, and to perform organizational learning. The phenomenon of the leadership in the Candirejo ecotourism enriches the studies of the ecotourism management. During this time, the ecotourism management is always associated
with the standard management of national park. The ecotourism management of Candirejo is considered successful even outside the national park management.
Abstract: In films, visual effects have played the role of
expressing realities more realistically or describing imaginations as if
they are real. Such images are immediated images representing
realism, and the logic of immediation for the reality of images has
been perceived dominant in visual effects. In order for immediation to
have an identity as immediation, there should be the opposite concept
hypermediation.
In the mid 2000s, hypermediated images were settled as a code of
mass culture in Asia. Thus, among Asian films highly popular in those
days, this study selected five displaying hypermediated images – 2 Korean, 2 Japanese, and 1 Thailand movies – and examined the
semiotic meanings of such images using Roland Barthes- directional and implicated meaning analysis and Metz-s paradigmatic analysis
method, focusing on how hypermediated images work in the general
context of the films, how they are associated with spaces, and what
meanings they try to carry.
Abstract: The study will search the level of existence of the
sweethearting in Saudi Arabia's Supermarkets in Riyadh.
Sweethearting occurs when frontline workers give unauthorized free
or uncounted goods and services to customer-s conspirators. The
store managers and /or security managers were asked about the
sweethearting that occurs in the supermarkets. The characteristics of
sweethearting in Riyadh stores were investigated. Two independent
variables were related to the report of sweethearting. These
independent variables are: The effect of store environment on
sweethearting and the security techniques and loss prevention
electronics techniques used. This study expected to shed the light
about the level of sweethearting in Saudi Arabia and the factors
behind it. This study will serve as an exploratory study for such
phenomenon in Saudi Arabia as well as both descriptive for the
characteristics of sweethearting and explanatory study to link
between the environmental and security systems factors to
sweethearting.
Abstract: This paper describes a methodology for remote
performance monitoring of retail refrigeration systems. The proposed
framework starts with monitoring of the whole refrigeration circuit
which allows detecting deviations from expected behavior caused by
various faults and degradations. The subsequent diagnostics methods
drill down deeper in the equipment hierarchy to more specifically
determine root causes. An important feature of the proposed concept
is that it does not require any additional sensors, and thus, the
performance monitoring solution can be deployed at a low
installation cost. Moreover only a minimum of contextual
information is required, which also substantially reduces time and
cost of the deployment process.
Abstract: Sustainable development is one of the most debated
issues, recently. In terms of providing more livable Earth continuity,
while Production activities are going on, on the other hand protecting
the environment has importance. As a strategy for sustainable
development, eco-innovation is the application of innovations to
reduce environmental burdens. Endeavors to understand ecoinnovation
processes have been affected from environmental
economics and innovation economics from neoclassical economics,
and evolutionary economics other than neoclassical economics. In
the light of case study analyses, this study aims to display activities
in this field through case studies after explaining the theoretical
framework of eco-innovations. This study consists of five sections
including introduction and conclusion. In the second part of the study
identifications of the concepts related with eco-innovation are
described and eco-innovations are classified. Third section considers
neoclassical and evolutionary approaches from neoclassical
economics and evolutionary economics, respectively. Fourth section
gives the case studies of successful eco-innovations. Last section is
the conclusion part and offers suggestions for future eco-innovation
research according to the theoretical framework and the case studies.
Abstract: This paper presents initiatives of Knowledge
Management (KM) applied to Forensic Sciences field, especially
developed at the Forensic Science Institute of the Brazilian Federal
Police. Successful projects, related to knowledge sharing, drugs
analysis and environmental crimes, are reported in the KM
perspective. The described results are related to: a) the importance of
having an information repository, like a digital library, in such a
multidisciplinary organization; b) the fight against drug dealing and
environmental crimes, enabling the possibility to map the evolution
of crimes, drug trafficking flows, and the advance of deforestation in
Amazon rain forest. Perspectives of new KM projects under
development and studies are also presented, tracing an evolution line
of the KM view at the Forensic Science Institute.
Abstract: Response surface methodology (RSM) is a very
efficient tool to provide a good practical insight into developing new
process and optimizing them. This methodology could help
engineers to raise a mathematical model to represent the behavior of
system as a convincing function of process parameters.
Through this paper the sequential nature of the RSM surveyed for process
engineers and its relationship to design of experiments (DOE), regression
analysis and robust design reviewed. The proposed four-step procedure in
two different phases could help system analyst to resolve the parameter
design problem involving responses. In order to check accuracy of the
designed model, residual analysis and prediction error sum of squares
(PRESS) described.
It is believed that the proposed procedure in this study can resolve a
complex parameter design problem with one or more responses. It can be
applied to those areas where there are large data sets and a number of
responses are to be optimized simultaneously. In addition, the proposed
procedure is relatively simple and can be implemented easily by using
ready-made standard statistical packages.
Abstract: In this paper we introduce the notion of protein interaction network. This is a graph whose vertices are the protein-s amino acids and whose edges are the interactions between them. Using a graph theory approach, we observe that according to their structural roles, the nodes interact differently. By leading a community structure detection, we confirm this specific behavior and describe thecommunities composition to finally propose a new approach to fold a protein interaction network.
Abstract: The optimal grid spacing and turbulence model for the
2D numerical analysis of a vertical-axis water turbine (VAWaterT)
operating in a 2 m/s freestream current has been investigated. The
results of five different spatial domain discretizations and two
turbulence models (k-ω SST and k-ε RNG) have been compared, in
order to gain the optimal y+ parameter distribution along the blade
walls during a full rotor revolution. The resulting optimal mesh has
appeared to be quite similar to that obtained for the numerical
analysis of a vertical-axis wind turbine.

accelerogram for comparing with the responses spectra
method.
Abstract: Nowadays, HPC, Grid and Cloud systems are evolving
very rapidly. However, the development of infrastructure solutions
related to HPC is lagging behind. While the existing infrastructure is
sufficient for simple cases, many computational problems have more
complex requirements.Such computational experiments use different
resources simultaneously to start a large number of computational
jobs. These resources are heterogeneous. They have different
purposes, architectures, performance and used software.Users need a
convenient tool that allows to describe and to run complex
computational experiments under conditions of HPC environment.
This paper introduces a modularworkflow system called SEGL
which makes it possible to run complex computational experiments
under conditions of a real HPC organization. The system can be used
in a great number of organizations, which provide HPC power.
Significant requirements to this system are high efficiency and
interoperability with the existing HPC infrastructure of the
organization without any changes.
