Abstract: With rapid technology scaling, the proportion of the
static power consumption catches up with dynamic power
consumption gradually. To decrease leakage consumption is
becoming more and more important in low-power design. This paper
presents a power-gating scheme for P-DTGAL (p-type dual
transmission gate adiabatic logic) circuits to reduce leakage power
dissipations under deep submicron process. The energy dissipations of
P-DTGAL circuits with power-gating scheme are investigated in
different processes, frequencies and active ratios. BSIM4 model is
adopted to reflect the characteristics of the leakage currents. HSPICE
simulations show that the leakage loss is greatly reduced by using the
P-DTGAL with power-gating techniques.
Abstract: In order to develop forest management strategies in
tropical forest in Malaysia, surveying the forest resources and
monitoring the forest area affected by logging activities is essential.
There are tremendous effort has been done in classification of land
cover related to forest resource management in this country as it is a
priority in all aspects of forest mapping using remote sensing and
related technology such as GIS. In fact classification process is a
compulsory step in any remote sensing research. Therefore, the main
objective of this paper is to assess classification accuracy of
classified forest map on Landsat TM data from difference number of
reference data (200 and 388 reference data). This comparison was
made through observation (200 reference data), and interpretation
and observation approaches (388 reference data). Five land cover
classes namely primary forest, logged over forest, water bodies, bare
land and agricultural crop/mixed horticultural can be identified by
the differences in spectral wavelength. Result showed that an overall
accuracy from 200 reference data was 83.5 % (kappa value
0.7502459; kappa variance 0.002871), which was considered
acceptable or good for optical data. However, when 200 reference
data was increased to 388 in the confusion matrix, the accuracy
slightly improved from 83.5% to 89.17%, with Kappa statistic
increased from 0.7502459 to 0.8026135, respectively. The accuracy
in this classification suggested that this strategy for the selection of
training area, interpretation approaches and number of reference data
used were importance to perform better classification result.
Abstract: The statistical distributions are modeled in explaining
nature of various types of data sets. Although these distributions are
mostly uni-modal, it is quite common to see multiple modes in the
observed distribution of the underlying variables, which make the
precise modeling unrealistic. The observed data do not exhibit
smoothness not necessarily due to randomness, but could also be due
to non-randomness resulting in zigzag curves, oscillations, humps
etc. The present paper argues that trigonometric functions, which
have not been used in probability functions of distributions so far,
have the potential to take care of this, if incorporated in the
distribution appropriately. A simple distribution (named as, Sinoform
Distribution), involving trigonometric functions, is illustrated in the
paper with a data set. The importance of trigonometric functions is
demonstrated in the paper, which have the characteristics to make
statistical distributions exotic. It is possible to have multiple modes,
oscillations and zigzag curves in the density, which could be suitable
to explain the underlying nature of select data set.
Abstract: Image enhancement is the most important challenging preprocessing for almost all applications of Image Processing. By now, various methods such as Median filter, α-trimmed mean filter, etc. have been suggested. It was proved that the α-trimmed mean filter is the modification of median and mean filters. On the other hand, ε-filters have shown excellent performance in suppressing noise. In spite of their simplicity, they achieve good results. However, conventional ε-filter is based on moving average. In this paper, we suggested a new ε-filter which utilizes α-trimmed mean. We argue that this new method gives better outcomes compared to previous ones and the experimental results confirmed this claim.
Abstract: The development of entrepreneurial competences of
farmers has been pointed out as a necessary condition for the
modernization of land in facing the phenomenon of globalization.
However, the educational processes involved in such a development
have been studied little, especially in emerging economies. This
research aims to enlighten some of the critical issues behind the early
stages of the transformation of farmers into entrepreneurs, through in
depth interviews with farmers, entrepreneurial promoters and public
officials participating in a public pilot project in Mexico. Although
major impacts were expected only in the long run, important positive
changes in the mind set of farmers and other participants were found
in early stages of the intervention. Apparently, the farmers started a
process of becoming more conscious about the importance of
preserving the aquiferous resources, as well as more market and
entrepreneurial oriented.
Abstract: Amongst the consistently fluctuating conditions
prevailing today, changeability represents a strategic key factor for a
manufacturing company to achieve success on the international
markets. In order to cope with turbulences and the increasing level of
incalculability, not only the flexible design of production systems but
in particular the employee as enabler of change provide the focus
here. It is important to enable employees from manufacturing
companies to participate actively in change events and in change
decisions. To this end, the learning factory has been created, which is
intended to serve the development of change-promoting competences
and the sensitization of employees for the necessity of changes.
Abstract: The paper deals with the perspectives and possibilities
of "smart solutions" to critical infrastructure protection. It means that
common computer aided technologies are used from the perspective
of new, better protection of selected infrastructure objects. The paper
is focused on the co-product of the Czech Defence Research Project -
ADAPTIV. This project is carrying out by the University of Defence,
Faculty of Economics and Management at the Department of Civil
Protection. The project creates system and technology for adaptive
cybernetic camouflage of armed forces objects, armaments, vehicles
and troops and of mobilization infrastructure. These adaptive
camouflage system and technology will be useful for army tactic
activities protection and for decoys generation also. The fourth
chapter of the paper concerns the possibilities of using the introduced
technology to the protection of selected civil (economically
important), critical infrastructure objects. The aim of this section
is to introduce the scientific capabilities and potential of the
University of Defence research results and solutions for the practice.
Abstract: Metallic micro parts are playing an important role in micro-fabrication industry. Recently, we have demonstrated a new deformation mechanism for micro-formability of polycrystalline materials. Different depressed micro-features smaller than the grain size have been successfully fabricated on 6061 aluminum alloy (AA6061) substrates with good fidelity. To further verify this proposed deformation mechanism that grain size is not a limiting factor, we demonstrate here that in addition of depressed features, protruded micro-features on a polycrystalline substrate can similarly be fabricated.
Abstract: In this work a new method for low complexity
image coding is presented, that permits different settings and great
scalability in the generation of the final bit stream. This coding
presents a continuous-tone still image compression system that
groups loss and lossless compression making use of finite arithmetic
reversible transforms. Both transformation in the space of color and
wavelet transformation are reversible. The transformed coefficients
are coded by means of a coding system in depending on a
subdivision into smaller components (CFDS) similar to the bit
importance codification. The subcomponents so obtained are
reordered by means of a highly configure alignment system
depending on the application that makes possible the re-configure of
the elements of the image and obtaining different importance levels
from which the bit stream will be generated. The subcomponents of
each importance level are coded using a variable length entropy
coding system (VBLm) that permits the generation of an embedded
bit stream. This bit stream supposes itself a bit stream that codes a
compressed still image. However, the use of a packing system on the
bit stream after the VBLm allows the realization of a final highly
scalable bit stream from a basic image level and one or several
improvement levels.
Abstract: The purpose of this research is: a) to investigate how
the HR practices influence psychological contracts, b) to examine the
influence of psychological contracts to individual behavior and to
contribute individually, c) to study the psychological contact through
leadership. This research using mixed methods, qualitative and
quantitative research methods were utilized to gather the data
collected using a qualitative method by the HR Manager who is in
charge of the trainings from the staffs and quantitative method
(survey) by using questionnaire was utilized to draw upon and to
elaborate on the recurring themes present during the interviews. The
survey was done to 400 staffs of the company. The study found that
leadership styles supporting the firm’s HR strategy is the key in
making psychological contracts that benefit both the firm and its
members.
Abstract: Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) is an important
commercial fish and shows to be more and more demanded for
human consumption. Therefore, it is very important to find good
methods for monitoring the freshness of the fish in order to keep it in
the best quality for human consumption. In this study, the fish was
stored in ice up to 2 weeks. Quality changes during storage were
assessed by the Quality Index Method (QIM), quantitative
descriptive analysis (QDA) and Torry scheme, by texture
measurements: puncture tests and Texture Profile Analysis (TPA)
tests on texture analyzer TA.XT2i, and by electronic nose (e-nose)
measurements using FreshSense instrument. Storage time of herring
in ice could be estimated by QIM with ± 2 days using 5 herring per
lot. No correlation between instrumental texture parameters and
storage time or between sensory and instrumental texture variables
was found. E-nose measurements could be use to detect the onset of
spoilage.
Abstract: Security issue and the importance of the function of
police to provide practical and psychological contexts in the
community has been the main topics among researchers , police and
security circles and this subject require to review and analysis
mechanisms within the police and its interaction with other parts of
the system for providing community safety. This paper examine
national and social security in the Internet.
Abstract: In today-s new technology era, cluster has become a
necessity for the modern computing and data applications since many
applications take more time (even days or months) for computation.
Although after parallelization, computation speeds up, still time
required for much application can be more. Thus, reliability of the
cluster becomes very important issue and implementation of fault
tolerant mechanism becomes essential. The difficulty in designing a
fault tolerant cluster system increases with the difficulties of various
failures. The most imperative obsession is that the algorithm, which
avoids a simple failure in a system, must tolerate the more severe
failures. In this paper, we implemented the theory of watchdog timer
in a parallel environment, to take care of failures. Implementation of
simple algorithm in our project helps us to take care of different
types of failures; consequently, we found that the reliability of this
cluster improves.
Abstract: With the fast evolution of digital data exchange, security information becomes much important in data storage and transmission. Due to the increasing use of images in industrial process, it is essential to protect the confidential image data from unauthorized access. In this paper, we analyze the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), and we add a key stream generator (A5/1, W7) to AES to ensure improving the encryption performance; mainly for images characterised by reduced entropy. The implementation of both techniques has been realized for experimental purposes. Detailed results in terms of security analysis and implementation are given. Comparative study with traditional encryption algorithms is shown the superiority of the modified algorithm.
Abstract: Every commercial bank optimises its asset portfolio
depending on the profitability of assets and chosen or imposed
constraints. This paper proposes and applies a stylized model for
optimising banks' asset and liability structure, reflecting profitability
of different asset categories and their risks as well as costs associated
with different liability categories and reserve requirements. The level
of detail for asset and liability categories is chosen to create a
suitably parsimonious model and to include the most important
categories in the model. It is shown that the most appropriate
optimisation criterion for the model is the maximisation of the ratio
of net interest income to assets. The maximisation of this ratio is
subject to several constraints. Some are accounting identities or
dictated by legislative requirements; others vary depending on the
market objectives for a particular bank. The model predicts variable
amount of assets allocated to loan provision.
Abstract: Image synthesis is an important area in image processing.
To synthesize images various systems are proposed in
the literature. In this paper, we propose a bio-inspired system to
synthesize image and to study the generating power of the system, we
define the class of languages generated by our system. We call image
as array in this paper. We use a primitive called iso-array to synthesize
image/array. The operation is double splicing on iso-arrays. The
double splicing operation is used in DNA computing and we use
this to synthesize image. A comparison of the family of languages
generated by the proposed self restricted double splicing systems on
iso-arrays with the existing family of local iso-picture languages is
made. Certain closure properties such as union, concatenation and
rotation are studied for the family of languages generated by the
proposed model.
Abstract: Object-oriented programming is a wonderful way to
make programming of huge real life tasks much easier than by using
procedural languages. In order to teach those ideas to students, it
is important to find a good task that shows the advantages of OOprogramming
very naturally. This paper gives an example, the game
Battleship, which seems to work excellent for teaching the OO ideas
(using Java, [1], [2], [3], [4]).
A three-step task is presented for how to teach OO-programming
using just one example suitable to convey many of the OO ideas.
Observations are given at the end and conclusions about how the
whole teaching course worked out.
Abstract: As an adult man and woman love each other and come to have faith in each other as their spouse, they marry each other. Recently people-s economic life has become individualized and women are enjoying a high education level and increased participation in social activities, and these changes are creating environment favorable for single life. Thus, an increasing number of people are choosing celibacy, and many people prefer cohabitation to marriage. Nevertheless, marriage is still regarded as a must-to-do in our thought. Most of people throughout the world admit marriage as one of natural processes of life, and is an important passage rite in life that all people experience as we can see everywhere in the world despite the diversity of lifestyles. With regard to wedding ceremony, however, each country and culture has its own unique tradition and style of festival. It is not just a congratulatory ceremony but contains multiple concepts representing the age, country or culture. Moreover, the form and contents of wedding ceremony changes over time, and such features of wedding ceremony are well represented in films. This study took note of the fact that films reflect and reproduce each country-s historicity, culturality and analyzed four films, which are believed to show differences between Eastern and Western wedding ceremonies. The selected films are: A Perfect Match (2002), Marriage Is a Crazy Thing (2001), Bride Wars (2009) and 27 Dresses (2008). The author attempted to examine wedding ceremonies described in the four films, differences between the East and the West suggested by the films, and changes in their societies.
Abstract: Throughput is an important measure of performance of production system. Analyzing and modeling of production throughput is complex in today-s dynamic production systems due to uncertainties of production system. The main reasons are that uncertainties are materialized when the production line faces changes in setup time, machinery break down, lead time of manufacturing, and scraps. Besides, demand changes are fluctuating from time to time for each product type. These uncertainties affect the production performance. This paper proposes Bayesian inference for throughput modeling under five production uncertainties. Bayesian model utilized prior distributions related to previous information about the uncertainties where likelihood distributions are associated to the observed data. Gibbs sampling algorithm as the robust procedure of Monte Carlo Markov chain was employed for sampling unknown parameters and estimating the posterior mean of uncertainties. The Bayesian model was validated with respect to convergence and efficiency of its outputs. The results presented that the proposed Bayesian models were capable to predict the production throughput with accuracy of 98.3%.
Abstract: Intensive changes of environment and strong market
competition have raised management of information and knowledge
to the strategic level of companies. In a knowledge based economy
only those organizations are capable of living which have up-to-date,
special knowledge and they are able to exploit and develop it.
Companies have to know what knowledge they have by taking a
survey of organizational knowledge and they have to fix actual and
additional knowledge in organizational memory. The question is how
to identify, acquire, fix and use knowledge effectively. The paper will
show that over and above the tools of information technology
supporting acquisition, storage and use of information and
organizational learning as well as knowledge coming into being as a
result of it, fixing and storage of knowledge in the memory of a
company play an important role in the intelligence of organizations
and competitiveness of a company.
