Abstract: With the rapid advanced of technology, the industrial processes become increasingly demanding, from the point of view, power quality and controllability. The advent of multi levels inverters responds partially to these requirements. But actually, the new generation of multi-cells inverters permits to reach more performances, since, it offers more voltage levels. The disadvantage in the increase of voltage levels by the number of cells in cascades is on account of series igbts synchronisation loss, from where, a limitation of cells in cascade to 4. Regarding to these constraints, a new topology is proposed in this paper, which increases the voltage levels of the three-cell inverter from 4 to 8; with the same number of igbts, and using less stored energy in the flaying capacitors. The details of operation and modelling of this new inverter structure are also presented, then tested thanks to a three phase induction motor. Abstract: Re-entrant scheduling is an important search problem
with many constraints in the flow shop. In the literature, a number of
approaches have been investigated from exact methods to
meta-heuristics. This paper presents a genetic algorithm that encodes
the problem as multi-level chromosomes to reflect the dependent
relationship of the re-entrant possibility and resource consumption.
The novel encoding way conserves the intact information of the data
and fastens the convergence to the near optimal solutions. To test the
effectiveness of the method, it has been applied to the
resource-constrained re-entrant flow shop scheduling problem.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a fuzzy aggregate
production planning (APP) model for blending problem in a brass
factory which is the problem of computing optimal amounts of raw
materials for the total production of several types of brass in a
period. The model has deterministic and imprecise parameters
which follows triangular possibility distributions. The brass casting
APP model can not always be solved by using common approaches
used in the literature. Therefore a mathematical model is presented
for solving this problem. In the proposed model, the Lai and
Hwang-s fuzzy ranking concept is relaxed by using one constraint
instead of three constraints. An application of the brass casting
APP model in a brass factory shows that the proposed model
successfully solves the multi-blend problem in casting process and
determines the optimal raw material purchasing policies.
Abstract: In this paper, the phase control antenna array synthesis
is presented. The problem is formulated as a constrained optimization
problem that imposes nulls with prescribed level while maintaining
the sidelobe at a prescribed level. For efficient use of the algorithm
memory, compared to the well known Particle Swarm Optimization
(PSO), the Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) is used
to estimate the phase parameters of the synthesized array. The
objective function is formed using a main objective and set of
constraints with penalty factors that measure the violation of each
feasible solution in the search space to each constraint. In this case
the obtained feasible solution is guaranteed to satisfy all the
constraints. Simulation results have shown significant performance
increases and a decreased randomness in the parameter search space
compared to a single objective conventional particle swarm
optimization.
Abstract: Manufacturing tolerancing is intended to determine
the intermediate geometrical and dimensional states of the part
during its manufacturing process. These manufacturing dimensions
also serve to satisfy not only the functional requirements given in
the definition drawing, but also the manufacturing constraints, for
example geometrical defects of the machine, vibration and the
wear of the cutting tool. In this paper, an experimental study on the
influence of the wear of the cutting tool (systematic dispersions) is
explored. This study was carried out on three stages .The first stage
allows machining without elimination of dispersions (random,
systematic) so the tolerances of manufacture according to total
dispersions. In the second stage, the results of the first stage are
filtered in such way to obtain the tolerances according to random
dispersions. Finally, from the two previous stages, the systematic
dispersions are generated. The objective of this study is to model
by the least squares method the error of manufacture based on
systematic dispersion. Finally, an approach of optimization of the
manufacturing tolerances was developed for machining on a CNC
machine tool
Abstract: QoS Routing aims to find paths between senders and
receivers satisfying the QoS requirements of the application which
efficiently using the network resources and underlying routing
algorithm to be able to find low-cost paths that satisfy given QoS
constraints. The problem of finding least-cost routing is known to be
NP-hard or complete and some algorithms have been proposed to
find a near optimal solution. But these heuristics or algorithms either
impose relationships among the link metrics to reduce the complexity
of the problem which may limit the general applicability of the
heuristic, or are too costly in terms of execution time to be applicable
to large networks. In this paper, we concentrate an algorithm that
finds a near-optimal solution fast and we named this algorithm as
optimized Delay Constrained Routing (ODCR), which uses an
adaptive path weight function together with an additional constraint
imposed on the path cost, to restrict search space and hence ODCR
finds near optimal solution in much quicker time.
Abstract: In order to give high expertise the computer aided
design of mechanical systems involves specific activities focused on
processing two type of information: knowledge and data. Expert rule
based knowledge is generally processing qualitative information and
involves searching for proper solutions and their combination into
synthetic variant. Data processing is based on computational models
and it is supposed to be inter-related with reasoning in the knowledge
processing. In this paper an Intelligent Integrated System is proposed,
for the objective of choosing the adequate material. The software is
developed in Prolog – Flex software and takes into account various
constraints that appear in the accurate operation of gears.
Abstract: In this article, it is considered a class of optimal control
problems constrained by differential and integral constraints are
called canonical form. A modified measure theoretical approach is
introduced to solve this class of optimal control problems.
Abstract: Starting from a biologically inspired framework, Gabor filters were built up from retinal filters via LMSE algorithms. Asubset of retinal filter kernels was chosen to form a particular Gabor filter by using a weighted sum. One-dimensional optimization approaches were shown to be inappropriate for the problem. All model parameters were fixed with biological or image processing constraints. Detailed analysis of the optimization procedure led to the introduction of a minimization constraint. Finally, quantization of weighting factors was investigated. This resulted in an optimized cascaded structure of a Gabor filter bank implementation with lower computational cost.
Abstract: Calibration estimation is a method of adjusting the
original design weights to improve the survey estimates by using
auxiliary information such as the known population total (or mean)
of the auxiliary variables. A calibration estimator uses calibrated
weights that are determined to minimize a given distance measure to
the original design weights while satisfying a set of constraints
related to the auxiliary information. In this paper, we propose a new
multivariate calibration estimator for the population mean in the
stratified sampling design, which incorporates information available
for more than one auxiliary variable. The problem of determining the
optimum calibrated weights is formulated as a Mathematical
Programming Problem (MPP) that is solved using the Lagrange
multiplier technique.
Abstract: This paper deals with wireless relay communication
systems in which multiple sources transmit information to the
destination node by the help of multiple relays. We consider a
signal forwarding technique based on the minimum mean-square
error (MMSE) approach with multiple antennas for each relay. A
source-relay-destination joint design strategy is proposed with power
constraints at the destination and the source nodes. Simulation results
confirm that the proposed joint design method improves the average
MSE performance compared with that of conventional MMSE relaying
schemes.
Abstract: Six Sigma is a well known discipline that reduces
variation using complex statistical tools and the DMAIC model. By
integrating Goldratts-s Theory of Constraints, the Five Focusing
Points and System Thinking tools, Six Sigma projects can be selected
where it can cause more impact in the company. This research
defines an integrated model of six sigma and constraint management
that shows a step-by-step guide using the original methodologies
from each discipline and is evaluated in a case study from the
production line of a Automobile engine monoblock V8, resulting in
an increase in the line capacity from 18.7 pieces per hour to 22.4
pieces per hour, a reduction of 60% of Work-In-Process and a
variation decrease of 0.73%.
Abstract: Topology Optimization is a defined as the method of
determining optimal distribution of material for the assumed design
space with functionality, loads and boundary conditions [1].
Topology optimization can be used to optimize shape for the
purposes of weight reduction, minimizing material requirements or
selecting cost effective materials [2]. Topology optimization has been
implemented through the use of finite element methods for the
analysis, and optimization techniques based on the method of moving
asymptotes, genetic algorithms, optimality criteria method, level sets
and topological derivatives. Case study of Typical “Fuselage design"
is considered for this paper to explain the benefits of Topology
Optimization in the design cycle. A cylindrical shell is assumed as
the design space and aerospace standard pay loads were applied on
the fuselage with wing attachments as constraints. Then topological
optimization is done using Finite Element (FE) based software. This
optimization results in the structural concept design which satisfies
all the design constraints using minimum material.
Abstract: In this paper the neural network-based controller is
designed for motion control of a mobile robot. This paper treats the
problems of trajectory following and posture stabilization of the
mobile robot with nonholonomic constraints. For this purpose the
recurrent neural network with one hidden layer is used. It learns
relationship between linear velocities and error positions of the
mobile robot. This neural network is trained on-line using the
backpropagation optimization algorithm with an adaptive learning
rate. The optimization algorithm is performed at each sample time to
compute the optimal control inputs. The performance of the proposed
system is investigated using a kinematic model of the mobile robot.
Abstract: As the Computed Tomography(CT) requires normally
hundreds of projections to reconstruct the image, patients are exposed
to more X-ray energy, which may cause side effects such as cancer.
Even when the variability of the particles in the object is very less,
Computed Tomography requires many projections for good quality
reconstruction. In this paper, less variability of the particles in an
object has been exploited to obtain good quality reconstruction.
Though the reconstructed image and the original image have same
projections, in general, they need not be the same. In addition
to projections, if a priori information about the image is known,
it is possible to obtain good quality reconstructed image. In this
paper, it has been shown by experimental results why conventional
algorithms fail to reconstruct from a few projections, and an efficient
polynomial time algorithm has been given to reconstruct a bi-level
image from its projections along row and column, and a known sub
image of unknown image with smoothness constraints by reducing the
reconstruction problem to integral max flow problem. This paper also
discusses the necessary and sufficient conditions for uniqueness and
extension of 2D-bi-level image reconstruction to 3D-bi-level image
reconstruction.
Abstract: Wireless Mesh Networking is a promising proposal
for broadband data transmission in a large area with low cost and
acceptable QoS. These features- trade offs in WMNs is a hot research
field nowadays. In this paper a mathematical optimization framework
has been developed to maximize throughput according to upper
bound delay constraints. IEEE 802.11 based infrastructure
backhauling mode of WMNs has been considered to formulate the
MINLP optimization problem. Proposed method gives the full
routing and scheduling procedure in WMN in order to obtain
mentioned goals.
Abstract: Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, is one of the
densely populated cities in the world. Due to rapid urbanization 60%
of its population lives in slum and squatter settlements. The reason
behind this poverty is low economic growth, inequitable distribution
of income, unequal distribution of productive assets, unemployment
and underemployment, high rate of population growth, low level of
human resource development, natural disasters, and limited access to
public services. Along with poverty, creating pressure on urban land,
shelter, plots, open spaces this creates environmental and ecological
degradation. These constraints are mostly resulted from the failures
of the government policies and measures and only Government can
solve this problem. This is now prime time to establish planning and
environmental management policy and sustainable urban
development for the city and for the urban slum dwellers which are
free from eviction, criminals, rent seekers and other miscreants.
Abstract: This research presents a fuzzy multi-objective model
for a machine selection problem in a flexible manufacturing system
of a tire company. Two main objectives are minimization of an
average machine error and minimization of the total setup time.
Conventionally, the working team uses trial and error in selecting a
pressing machine for each task due to the complexity and constraints
of the problem. So, both objectives may not satisfy. Moreover, trial
and error takes a lot of time to get the final decision. Therefore, in
this research preemptive fuzzy goal programming model is developed
for solving this multi-objective problem. The proposed model can
obtain the appropriate results that the Decision Making (DM) is
satisfied for both objectives. Besides, alternative choice can be easily
generated by varying the satisfaction level. Additionally, decision
time can be reduced by using the model, which includes all
constraints of the system to generate the solutions. A numerical
example is also illustrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed
model.
Abstract: There exists an injective, information-preserving function
that maps a semantic network (i.e a directed labeled network)
to a directed network (i.e. a directed unlabeled network). The edge
label in the semantic network is represented as a topological feature
of the directed network. Also, there exists an injective function that
maps a directed network to an undirected network (i.e. an undirected
unlabeled network). The edge directionality in the directed network
is represented as a topological feature of the undirected network.
Through function composition, there exists an injective function that
maps a semantic network to an undirected network. Thus, aside from
space constraints, the semantic network construct does not have any
modeling functionality that is not possible with either a directed
or undirected network representation. Two proofs of this idea will
be presented. The first is a proof of the aforementioned function
composition concept. The second is a simpler proof involving an
undirected binary encoding of a semantic network.
Abstract: A new and cost effective robotic device was designed
for remote tele surgery using dual tone multi frequency technology
(DTMF). Tele system with Dual Tone Multiple Frequency has a large
capability in sending and receiving of data in hardware and software.
The robot consists of DC motors for arm movements and it is
controlled manually through a mobile phone through DTMF
Technology. The system enables the surgeon from base station to
send commands through mobile phone to the patient’s robotic system
which includes two robotic arms that translate the input into actual
instrument manipulation. A mobile phone attached to the
microcontroller 8051 which can activate robot through relays. The
Remote robot-assisted tele surgery eliminates geographic constraints
for getting surgical expertise where it is needed and allows an expert
surgeon to teach or proctor the performance of surgical technique by
real-time intervention.
