Abstract: Pummelo is known to be the largest of all citrus fruits, with expected ratio of 2:1 (w/v) of producing juice, is an attractive opportunity for Malaysia to expand pummelo-s influence and marketability over the international market of juices. The purpose of this study is to identify and quantify the phenolic compounds in two Malaysian varieties of pummelo fruit juice: Ledang (PO55) and Tambun (PO52). Identifications of polyphenols composition were done using High Performance Liquid Chromatography Diode Array Detection (HPLC-DAD). The phenolic compounds that were found in both varieties were hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonones. This study proved that Tambun variety has the highest antioxidant and phenolic compounds in comparison to Ledang variety. However, considerations have to be made to suit consumer-s taste bud and the amount of enzyme needed to clarify the juice for its marketability.
Abstract: Decision Feedback equalizers (DFEs) usually outperform linear equalizers for channels with intersymbol interference. However, the DFE performance is highly dependent on the availability of reliable past decisions. Hence, in coded systems, where reliable decisions are only available after decoding the full block, the performance of the DFE will be affected. A symbol based DFE is a DFE that only uses the decision after the block is decoded. In this paper we derive the optimal settings of both the feedforward and feedback taps of the symbol based equalizer. We present a novel symbol based DFE filterbank, and derive its taps optimal settings. We also show that it outperforms the classic DFE in terms of complexity and/or performance.

called canonical form. A modified measure theoretical approach is
introduced to solve this class of optimal control problems.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to find out and analyze the
role of gender and age on the perceptions of students to the distant
online program offered by Vocational High School in Sakarya
University. The research is based on a questionnaire as a mean of
data collection method to find out the role of age and gender on the
student-s perceptions toward online education, and the study
progressed through finding relationships between the variables used
in the data collection instrument. The findings of the analysis
revealed that although the students registered to the online program
by will, they preferred the traditional face-to-face education due to
the difficulty of the nonverbal communication, their incompetence of
using the technology required, and their belief in traditional face-toface
learning more than online education.
Regarding gender, the results showed that the female students
have a better perception of the online education as opposed to the
male students. Regarding age, the results showed that the older the
students are the more is their preference towards attending face-toface
classes.
Abstract: Restoration research has become important on principle recently in Czech Republic. The reason is simple. More than 70 % of mined brown coal comes from the North Bohemian Basin these days. Open cast brown coal mining has lead to large damage on the landscape. Reclamation of phytotoxic areas is one of the serious problems in the North Bohemian Basin. It mainly concerns the areas with the occurrence of overburden rocks from the coal bed enriched with coal. The presented paper includes the characteristics of the important phytotoxic areas and the methodology of their reclamation. The results are documented with the long term monitoring of physical, mineralogical, chemical and pedological parameters of rocks in the testing areas.
Abstract: In the present work, study of the vibration of thin cylindrical shells made of a functionally gradient material (FGM) composed of stainless steel and nickel is presented. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction of the shell according to volume fraction power law distribution. The objective is to study the natural frequencies, the influence of constituent volume fractions and the effects of boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of the FG cylindrical shell. The study is carried out using third order shear deformation shell theory. The analysis is carried out using Hamilton's principle. The governing equations of motion of FG cylindrical shells are derived based on shear deformation theory. Results are presented on the frequency characteristics, influence of constituent volume fractions and the effects of clamped-free boundary conditions
Abstract: Many natural language expressions are ambiguous, and
need to draw on other sources of information to be interpreted.
Interpretation of the e word تعاون to be considered as a noun or a verb
depends on the presence of contextual cues. To interpret words we
need to be able to discriminate between different usages. This paper
proposes a hybrid of based- rules and a machine learning method for
tagging Arabic words. The particularity of Arabic word that may be
composed of stem, plus affixes and clitics, a small number of rules
dominate the performance (affixes include inflexional markers for
tense, gender and number/ clitics include some prepositions,
conjunctions and others). Tagging is closely related to the notion of
word class used in syntax. This method is based firstly on rules (that
considered the post-position, ending of a word, and patterns), and
then the anomaly are corrected by adopting a memory-based learning
method (MBL). The memory_based learning is an efficient method to
integrate various sources of information, and handling exceptional
data in natural language processing tasks. Secondly checking the
exceptional cases of rules and more information is made available to
the learner for treating those exceptional cases. To evaluate the
proposed method a number of experiments has been run, and in
order, to improve the importance of the various information in
learning.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects
of modality principles in instructional software among first grade
pupils- achievements in the learning of Arabic Language. Two modes
of instructional software were systematically designed and
developed, audio with images (AI), and text with images (TI). The
quasi-experimental design was used in the study. The sample
consisted of 123 male and female pupils from IRBED Education
Directorate, Jordan. The pupils were randomly assigned to any one of
the two modes. The independent variable comprised the two modes
of the instructional software, the students- achievement levels in the
Arabic Language class and gender. The dependent variable was the
achievements of the pupils in the Arabic Language test. The
theoretical framework of this study was based on Mayer-s Cognitive
Theory of Multimedia Learning. Four hypotheses were postulated
and tested. Analyses of Variance (ANOVA) showed that pupils using
the (AI) mode performed significantly better than those using (TI)
mode. This study concluded that the audio with images mode was an
important aid to learning as compared to text with images mode.
Abstract: A well balanced numerical scheme based on
stationary waves for shallow water flows with arbitrary topography
has been introduced by Thanh et al. [18]. The scheme was
constructed so that it maintains equilibrium states and tests indicate
that it is stable and fast. Applying the well-balanced scheme for the
one-dimensional shallow water equations, we study the early shock
waves propagation towards the Phuket coast in Southern Thailand
during a hypothetical tsunami. The initial tsunami wave is generated
in the deep ocean with the strength that of Indonesian tsunami of
2004.
Abstract: This paper gives an overview of the mapping
mechanism of SEAM-a methodology for the automatic generation of
knowledge models and its mapping onto Java codes. It discusses the
rules that will be used to map the different components in the
knowledge model automatically onto Java classes, properties and
methods. The aim of developing this mechanism is to help in the
creation of a prototype which will be used to validate the knowledge
model which has been generated automatically. It will also help to
link the modeling phase with the implementation phase as existing
knowledge engineering methodologies do not provide for proper
guidelines for the transition from the knowledge modeling phase to
development phase. This will decrease the development overheads
associated to the development of Knowledge Based Systems.
Abstract: The prospective analysis is presented as an important tool to identify the most relevant opportunities and needs in research and development from planned interventions in innovation systems. This study chose Phyllanthus niruri, known as "stone break" to describe the knowledge about the specie, by using biotechnological forecasting through the software Vantage Point. It can be seen a considerable increase in studies on Phyllanthus niruri in recent years and that there are patents about this plant since twenty-five years ago. India was the country that most carried out research on the specie, showing interest, mainly in studies of hepatoprotection, antioxidant and anti-cancer activities. Brazil is in the second place, with special interest for anti-tumor studies. Given the identification of the Brazilian groups that exploit the species it is possible to mediate partnerships and cooperation aiming to help on the implementing of the Program of Herbal medicines (phytotherapics) in Brazil.
Abstract: CTMA-bentonite and BTEA-Bentonite prepared by Na-bentonite cation exchanged with cetyltrimethylammonium(CTMA) and benzyltriethylammonium (BTEA). Products were characterized by XRD and IR techniques. The d001 spacing value of CTMA-bentonite and BTEA-bentonite are 7.54Å and 3.50Å larger than that of Na-bentonite at 100% cation exchange capacity, respectively. The IR spectrum showed that the intensities of OH stretching and bending vibrations of the two organoclays decreased greatly comparing to untreated Na-bentonite. Batch experiments were carried out at 303 K, 318 K and 333 K to obtain the sorption isotherms of Crystal violet onto the two organoclays. The results show that the sorption isothermal data could be well described by Freundlich model. The dynamical data for the two organoclays fit well with pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption capacity of CTMA-bentonite was found higher than that of BTEA-Bentonite. Thermodynamic parameters such as changes in the free energy (ΔG°), the enthalpy (ΔH°) and the entropy (ΔS°) were also evaluated. The overall adsorption process of Crystal violet onto the two organoclays were spontaneous, endothermic physisorption. The CTMA-bentonite and BTEA-Bentonite could be employed as low-cost alternatives to activated carbon in wastewater treatment for the removal of color which comes from textile dyes.
Abstract: Compare to western cultures, women who smoke in Korea are not tolerated. Korean people are prejudiced against women smoking. In spite of the relative prevalence of sexual equality in South Korea, women too often feel obliged to confine their smoking to only a few public spaces, such as designated smoking rooms, coffee shops or pubs. Korean Confucianism classifies people according to gender and social status. According to Confucian culture, cigarettes convey clear social meanings as well as reinforcing status, age and gender, beyond personal preferences. For these reasons, the significant of people smoking in Korea varies according to their gender. This study will determine reasons for the ongoing sexual discrimination against female Korean smokers thorough analyzing Korean films. Since film is a medium reflects social phenomenon. Roland Barthes- Mythology Theory will be used to analyze films.
Abstract: This paper investigated the impact of ceiling height and window head heights variation on daylighting inside architectural teaching studio with a full width window. In architectural education, using the studio is more than normal classroom in most credit hours. Therefore, window position, size and dimension of studio have direct influence on level of daylighting. Daylighting design is a critical factor that improves student learning, concentration and behavior, in addition to these, it also reduces energy consumption. The methodology of analysis involves using Radiance in IES software under overcast and cloudy sky in Malaysia. It has been established that presentation of daylighting of architecture studio can be enhanced by changing the ceiling heights and window level, because, different ceiling heights and window head heights can contribute to different range of daylight levels.
Abstract: Graph coloring is an important problem in computer
science and many algorithms are known for obtaining reasonably
good solutions in polynomial time. One method of comparing
different algorithms is to test them on a set of standard graphs where
the optimal solution is already known. This investigation analyzes a
set of 50 well known graph coloring instances according to a set of
complexity measures. These instances come from a variety of
sources some representing actual applications of graph coloring
(register allocation) and others (mycieleski and leighton graphs) that
are theoretically designed to be difficult to solve. The size of the
graphs ranged from ranged from a low of 11 variables to a high of
864 variables. The method used to solve the coloring problem was
the square of the adjacency (i.e., correlation) matrix. The results
show that the most difficult graphs to solve were the leighton and the
queen graphs. Complexity measures such as density, mobility,
deviation from uniform color class size and number of block
diagonal zeros are calculated for each graph. The results showed that
the most difficult problems have low mobility (in the range of .2-.5)
and relatively little deviation from uniform color class size.
Abstract: This study proposes a basic molecular formula for all
proteins. A total of 10,739 proteins belonging to 9 different protein
groups classified on the basis of their functions were selected
randomly. They included enzymes, storage proteins, hormones,
signalling proteins, structural proteins, transport proteins,
immunoglobulins or antibodies, motor proteins and receptor proteins.
After obtaining the protein molecular formula using the ProtParam
tool, the H/C, N/C, O/C, and S/C ratios were determined for each
randomly selected sample. In this case, H, N, O, and S coefficients
were specified per carbon atom. Surprisingly, the results
demonstrated that H, N, O, and S coefficients for all 10,739 proteins
are similar and highly correlated. This study demonstrates that
despite differences in the structure and function, all known proteins
have a similar basic molecular formula CnH1.58 ± 0.015nN0.28 ± 0.005nO0.30
± 0.007nS0.01 ± 0.002n. The total correlation between all coefficients was
found to be 0.9999.
Abstract: Nanoemulsions are a class of emulsions with a droplet
size in the range of 50–500 nm and have attracted a great deal of
attention in recent years because it is unique characteristics. The
physicochemical properties of nanoemulsion suggests that it can be
successfully used to recover the residual oil which is trapped in the
fine pore of reservoir rock by capillary forces after primary and
secondary recovery. Oil-in-water nanoemulsion which can be formed
by high-energy emulsification techniques using specific surfactants
can reduce oil-water interfacial tension (IFT) by 3-4 orders of
magnitude. The present work is aimed on characterization of oil-inwater
nanoemulsion in terms of its phase behavior, morphological
studies; interfacial energy; ability to reduce the interfacial tension and
understanding the mechanisms of mobilization and displacement of
entrapped oil blobs by lowering interfacial tension both at the
macroscopic and microscopic level. In order to investigate the
efficiency of oil-water nanoemulsion in enhanced oil recovery
(EOR), experiments were performed to characterize the emulsion in
terms of their physicochemical properties and size distribution of the
dispersed oil droplet in water phase. Synthetic mineral oil and a series
of surfactants were used to prepare oil-in-water emulsions.
Characterization of emulsion shows that it follows pseudo-plastic
behaviour and drop size of dispersed oil phase follows lognormal
distribution. Flooding experiments were also carried out in a
sandpack system to evaluate the effectiveness of the nanoemulsion as
displacing fluid for enhanced oil recovery. Substantial additional
recoveries (more than 25% of original oil in place) over conventional
water flooding were obtained in the present investigation.
Abstract: The purpose of semantic web research is to transform
the Web from a linked document repository into a distributed knowledge base and application platform, thus allowing the vast range of available information and services to be more efficiently
exploited. As a first step in this transformation, languages such as
OWL have been developed. Although fully realizing the Semantic Web still seems some way off, OWL has already been very
successful and has rapidly become a defacto standard for ontology
development in fields as diverse as geography, geology, astronomy,
agriculture, defence and the life sciences. The aim of this paper is to classify key concepts of Semantic Web as well as introducing a new
practical approach which uses these concepts to outperform Word Wide Web.
Abstract: In this paper, a study on the modes of collapse of
compress- expand members are presented. Compress- expand member
is a compact, multiple-combined cylinders, to be proposed as energy
absorbers. Previous studies on the compress- expand member have
clarified its energy absorption efficiency, proposed an approximate
equation to describe its deformation characteristics and also
highlighted the improvement that it has brought. However, for the
member to be practical, the actual range of geometrical dimension that
it can maintain its applicability must be investigated. In this study,
using a virtualized materials that comply the bilinear hardening law,
Finite element Method (FEM) analysis on the collapse modes of
compress- expand member have been conducted. Deformation maps
that plotted the member's collapse modes with regards to the member's
geometric and material parameters were then presented in order to
determine the dimensional range of each collapse modes.
Abstract: Digital news with a variety topics is abundant on the
internet. The problem is to classify news based on its appropriate
category to facilitate user to find relevant news rapidly. Classifier
engine is used to split any news automatically into the respective
category. This research employs Support Vector Machine (SVM) to
classify Indonesian news. SVM is a robust method to classify
binary classes. The core processing of SVM is in the formation of an
optimum separating plane to separate the different classes. For
multiclass problem, a mechanism called one against one is used to
combine the binary classification result. Documents were taken
from the Indonesian digital news site, www.kompas.com. The
experiment showed a promising result with the accuracy rate of 85%.
This system is feasible to be implemented on Indonesian news
classification.
