Abstract: This paper describes a novel sensor device, a pressure
pulse wave meter, which uses a bidirectional condenser microphone.
The microphone work as a microphone as well as a sensor with high
gain over a wide frequency range; they are also highly reliable and
economic. Currently aging is becoming a serious social issue in Japan causing
increased medical expenses in the country. Hence, it is important for
elderly citizens to check health condition at home, and to care the
health conditions through daily monitoring. Given this circumstances,
we developed a novel pressure pulse wave meter based on a
bidirectional condenser microphone: this device is used as a measuring
instrument of health conditions.
Abstract: This paper is focused on the reference current
calculation in the compensation mode of the active DC traction
substations. The so-called p-q theory of the instantaneous reactive
power is used as theoretical foundation. The compensation goal of
total compensation is taken into consideration for the operation under
both sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal voltage conditions, through the
two objectives of unity power factor and perfect harmonic
cancelation. Four blocks of reference current generation implement
the conceived algorithms and they are included in a specific Simulink
library, which is useful in a DSP dSPACE-based platform working
under Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results validate the
correctness of the implementation and fulfillment of the
compensation tasks.
Abstract: While choosing insulating oil, characteristic features
such as thermal cooling, endurance, efficiency and being
environment-friendly should be considered. Mineral oils are referred
as petroleum-based oil. In this study, vegetable oils investigated as an
alternative insulating liquid to mineral oil. Dissipation factor,
breakdown voltage, relative dielectric constant and resistivity
changes with the frequency and voltage of mineral, rapeseed and nut
oils were measured. Experimental studies were performed according
to ASTM D924 and IEC 60156 standards.
Abstract: In this paper, improved performance scheme for
joint transmission (JT) is proposed in downlink (DL) coordinated
multi-point (CoMP) in case of the constraint transmission power.
This scheme is that a serving transmission point (TP) requests the
JT to an inter-TP and it selects a precoding technique according
to the channel state information (CSI) from user equipment (UE).
The simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) and the
throughput performances of the proposed scheme provide the high
spectral efficiency and the reliable data at the cell edge.
Abstract: The conventional Wi-Fi backscatter system can only
process one-to-one communication between the Wi-Fi reader and the
Wi-Fi tag. For improvement of throughput of the conventional system,
this paper proposes the multi-to-multi communication system. In the
proposed system, the interference by the multi-to-multi
communication is effectively cancelled by the orthogonal multiple
access based on the identification code of the tag. Although the
overhead is generated by the procedure for the multi-to-multi
communication, because the procedure is processed by the Wi-Fi
protocol, the overhead is insignificant for the entire communication
procedure. From the numerical results, it is confirmed that the
proposed system has nearly proportional increased throughput in
according to the number of the tag that simultaneously participates in
communication.
Abstract: Sampled-data controller is presented for solid oxide
fuel cell systems which is expressed by a sector bounded nonlinear
model. The proposed control law is obtained by solving a convex
problem satisfying several linear matrix inequalities. Simulation
results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed design
method.
Abstract: An Acoustic Micro-Energy Harvester (AMEH) is
developed to convert wasted acoustical energy into useful electrical
energy. AMEH is mathematically modeled using Lumped Element
Modelling (LEM) and Euler-Bernoulli beam (EBB) modelling. An
experiment is designed to validate the mathematical model and assess
the feasibility of AMEH. Comparison of theoretical and experimental
data on critical parameter value such as Mm, Cms, dm and Ceb showed
the variances are within 1% to 6%, which is reasonably acceptable.
Then, AMEH undergoes bandwidth tuning for performance
optimization. The AMEH successfully produces 0.9V/(m/s^2) and
1.79μW/(m^2/s^4) at 60Hz and 400kΩ resistive load which only
show variances about 7% compared to theoretical data. At 1g and
60Hz resonance frequency, the averaged power output is about
2.2mW which fulfilled a range of wireless sensors and
communication peripherals power requirements. Finally, the design
for AMEH is assessed, validated and deemed as a feasible design.
Abstract: The Figaro AM-1 sensor module which employs TGS
2600 model gas sensor in air quality assessment was used. The
system was coupled with a microprocessor that enables sensor
module to create warning message via telephone. This low cot sensor
system’s performance was compared with a DiagNose II commercial
electronic nose system. Both air quality sensor and electronic nose
system employ metal oxide chemical gas sensors. In the study
experimental setup, data acquisition methods for electronic nose
system, and performance of the low cost air quality system were
evaluated and explained.
Abstract: In this study, three robust predicting methods, namely artificial neural network (ANN), adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and support vector machine (SVM) were used for computing the resonant frequency of A-shaped compact microstrip antennas (ACMAs) operating at UHF band. Firstly, the resonant frequencies of 144 ACMAs with various dimensions and electrical parameters were simulated with the help of IE3D™ based on method of moment (MoM). The ANN, ANFIS and SVM models for computing the resonant frequency were then built by considering the simulation data. 124 simulated ACMAs were utilized for training and the remaining 20 ACMAs were used for testing the ANN, ANFIS and SVM models. The performance of the ANN, ANFIS and SVM models are compared in the training and test process. The average percentage errors (APE) regarding the computed resonant frequencies for training of the ANN, ANFIS and SVM were obtained as 0.457%, 0.399% and 0.600%, respectively. The constructed models were then tested and APE values as 0.601% for ANN, 0.744% for ANFIS and 0.623% for SVM were achieved. The results obtained here show that ANN, ANFIS and SVM methods can be successfully applied to compute the resonant frequency of ACMAs, since they are useful and versatile methods that yield accurate results.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel heuristic algorithm that aims to determine the best size and location of distributed generators in unbalanced distribution networks. The proposed heuristic algorithm can deal with the planning cases where power loss is to be optimized without violating the system practical constraints. The distributed generation units in the proposed algorithm is modeled as voltage controlled node with the flexibility to be converted to constant power factor node in case of reactive power limit violation. The proposed algorithm is implemented in MATLAB and tested on the IEEE 37 -node feeder. The results obtained show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
