Abstract: The theoretical prediction of the acoustical
polarization effects in the heterogeneous composites, made of thick
elastic solids with thin nematic films, is presented. The numericalanalytical
solution to the problem of the different wave propagation
exhibits some new physical effects in the low frequency domain: the
appearance of the critical frequency and the existence of the narrow
transition zone where the wave rapidly changes its speed. The
associated wave attenuation is highly perturbed in this zone. We also
show the possible appearance of the critical frequencies where the
attenuation changes the sign. The numerical results of parametrical
analysis are presented and discussed.
Abstract: Microarray experiments are information rich; however, extensive data mining is required to identify the patterns that characterize the underlying mechanisms of action. For biologists, a key aim when analyzing microarray data is to group genes based on the temporal patterns of their expression levels. In this paper, we used an iterative clustering method to find temporal patterns of gene expression. We evaluated the performance of this method by applying it to real sporulation data and simulated data. The patterns obtained using the iterative clustering were found to be superior to those obtained using existing clustering algorithms.
Abstract: The length of a cycle basis of a graph is the sum of the lengths of its elements. A minimum cycle basis is a cycle basis with minimum length. In this work, a construction of a minimum cycle basis for the wreath product of wheels with stars is presented. Moreover, the length of minimum cycle basis and the length of its longest cycle are calculated.
Abstract: Hopfield model of associative memory is studied in this work. In particular, two main problems that it possesses: the apparition of spurious patterns in the learning phase, implying the well-known effect of storing the opposite pattern, and the problem of its reduced capacity, meaning that it is not possible to store a great amount of patterns without increasing the error probability in the retrieving phase. In this paper, a method to avoid spurious patterns is presented and studied, and an explanation of the previously mentioned effect is given. Another technique to increase the capacity of a network is proposed here, based on the idea of using several reference points when storing patterns. It is studied in depth, and an explicit formula for the capacity of the network with this technique is provided.
Abstract: The need to implement intelligent highways is much
more emphasized with the growth of vehicle production line as well as vehicle intelligence. The control of intelligent vehicles in order to
reduce human error and boost ease congestion is not accomplished solely by the aid of human resources. The present article is an attempt
to introduce an intelligent control system based on a single central computer. In this project, central computer, without utilizing Global
Positioning System (GPS), is capable of tracking all vehicles, crisis management and control, traffic guidance and recording traffic
crimes along the highway. By the help of RFID technology, vehicles
are connected to computerized systems, intelligent light poles and
other available hardware along the way. By the aid of Wimax
communicative technology, all components of the system are
virtually connected together through local and global networks
devised in them and the energy of the network is provided by the
solar cells installed on the intelligent light poles.
Abstract: In this work, we consider the rational points on elliptic
curves over finite fields Fp. We give results concerning the number
of points Np,a on the elliptic curve y2 ≡ x3 +a3(mod p) according
to whether a and x are quadratic residues or non-residues. We use
two lemmas to prove the main results first of which gives the list of
primes for which -1 is a quadratic residue, and the second is a result
from [1]. We get the results in the case where p is a prime congruent
to 5 modulo 6, while when p is a prime congruent to 1 modulo 6,
there seems to be no regularity for Np,a.
Abstract: In the Top Right Access point Minimum Length Corridor (TRA-MLC) problem [1], a rectangular boundary partitioned into rectilinear polygons is given and the problem is to find a corridor of least total length and it must include the top right corner of the outer rectangular boundary. A corridor is a tree containing a set of line segments lying along the outer rectangular boundary and/or on the boundary of the rectilinear polygons. The corridor must contain at least one point from the boundaries of the outer rectangle and also the rectilinear polygons. Gutierrez and Gonzalez [1] proved that the MLC problem, along with some of its restricted versions and variants, are NP-complete. In this paper, we give a shorter proof of NP-Completeness of TRA-MLC by findig the reduction in the following way.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a preconditioned AOR-type iterative method for solving the linear systems Ax = b, where A is a Z-matrix. And give some comparison theorems to show that the rate of convergence of the preconditioned AOR-type iterative method is faster than the rate of convergence of the AOR-type iterative method.
Abstract: In this paper, we apply and compare two generalized estimating equation approaches to the analysis of car breakdowns data in Mauritius. Number of breakdowns experienced by a machinery is a highly under-dispersed count random variable and its value can be attributed to the factors related to the mechanical input and output of that machinery. Analyzing such under-dispersed count observation as a function of the explanatory factors has been a challenging problem. In this paper, we aim at estimating the effects of various factors on the number of breakdowns experienced by a passenger car based on a study performed in Mauritius over a year. We remark that the number of passenger car breakdowns is highly under-dispersed. These data are therefore modelled and analyzed using Com-Poisson regression model. We use the two types of quasi-likelihood estimation approaches to estimate the parameters of the model: marginal and joint generalized quasi-likelihood estimating equation approaches. Under-dispersion parameter is estimated to be around 2.14 justifying the appropriateness of Com-Poisson distribution in modelling underdispersed count responses recorded in this study.
Abstract: In this paper, by utilizing the coincidence degree theorem a predator-prey model with modified Leslie-Gower Hollingtype II schemes and a deviating argument is studied. Some sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of positive periodic solutions of the model.
Abstract: In this paper, a new descent-projection method with a
new search direction for monotone structured variational inequalities
is proposed. The method is simple, which needs only projections
and some function evaluations, so its computational load is very tiny.
Under mild conditions on the problem-s data, the method is proved to
converges globally. Some preliminary computational results are also
reported to illustrate the efficiency of the method.
Abstract: Iterative learning control aims to achieve zero tracking
error of a specific command. This is accomplished by iteratively
adjusting the command given to a feedback control system, based on
the tracking error observed in the previous iteration. One would like
the iterations to converge to zero tracking error in spite of any error
present in the model used to design the learning law. First, this need
for stability robustness is discussed, and then the need for robustness
of the property that the transients are well behaved. Methods of
producing the needed robustness to parameter variations and to
singular perturbations are presented. Then a method involving
reverse time runs is given that lets the world behavior produce the
ILC gains in such a way as to eliminate the need for a mathematical
model. Since the real world is producing the gains, there is no issue
of model error. Provided the world behaves linearly, the approach
gives an ILC law with both stability robustness and good transient
robustness, without the need to generate a model.
Abstract: A family of improved secant-like method is proposed in this paper. Further, the analysis of the convergence shows that this method has super-linear convergence. Efficiency are demonstrated by numerical experiments when the choice of α is correct.
Abstract: Let X be a connected space, X be a space, let p : X -→ X be a continuous map and let (X, p) be a covering space of X. In the first section we give some preliminaries from covering spaces and their automorphism groups. In the second section we derive some algebraic properties of both universal and regular covering spaces (X, p) of X and also their automorphism groups A(X, p).
Abstract: Conjugate natural convection in a differentially heated
square enclosure containing a polygon shaped object is studied numerically in this article. The effect of various polygon types on the
fluid flow and thermal performance of the enclosure is addressed for
different thermal conductivities. The governing equations are modeled
and solved numerically using the built-in finite element method of COMSOL software. It is found that the heat transfer rate remains
stable by varying the polygon types.
Abstract: Let (U;D) be a Gr-covering approximation space
(U; C) with covering lower approximation operator D and covering
upper approximation operator D. For a subset X of U, this paper
investigates the following three conditions: (1) X is a definable subset
of (U;D); (2) X is an inner definable subset of (U;D); (3) X is an
outer definable subset of (U;D). It is proved that if one of the above
three conditions holds, then the others hold. These results give a
positive answer of an open problem for definable subsets of covering
approximation spaces.
Abstract: In this paper, the dynamics of a system of two van der Pol oscillators with delayed position and velocity is studied. We provide an approximate solution for this system using parameterexpansion method. Also, we obtain approximate values for frequencies of the system. The parameter-expansion method is more efficient than the perturbation method for this system because the method is independent of perturbation parameter assumption.
Abstract: Nevertheless the widespread application of finite
mixture models in segmentation, finite mixture model selection is
still an important issue. In fact, the selection of an adequate number
of segments is a key issue in deriving latent segments structures and
it is desirable that the selection criteria used for this end are effective.
In order to select among several information criteria, which may
support the selection of the correct number of segments we conduct a
simulation study. In particular, this study is intended to determine
which information criteria are more appropriate for mixture model
selection when considering data sets with only categorical
segmentation base variables. The generation of mixtures of
multinomial data supports the proposed analysis. As a result, we
establish a relationship between the level of measurement of
segmentation variables and some (eleven) information criteria-s
performance. The criterion AIC3 shows better performance (it
indicates the correct number of the simulated segments- structure
more often) when referring to mixtures of multinomial segmentation
base variables.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to adopt a compromise ratio (CR) methodology for fuzzy multi-attribute single-expert decision making proble. In this paper, the rating of each alternative has been described by linguistic terms, which can be expressed as triangular fuzzy numbers. The compromise ratio method for fuzzy multi-attribute single expert decision making has been considered here by taking the ranking index based on the concept that the chosen alternative should be as close as possible to the ideal solution and as far away as possible from the negative-ideal solution simultaneously. From logical point of view, the distance between two triangular fuzzy numbers also is a fuzzy number, not a crisp value. Therefore a fuzzy distance measure, which is itself a fuzzy number, has been used here to calculate the difference between two triangular fuzzy numbers. Now in this paper, with the help of this fuzzy distance measure, it has been shown that the compromise ratio is a fuzzy number and this eases the problem of the decision maker to take the decision. The computation principle and the procedure of the compromise ratio method have been described in detail in this paper. A comparative analysis of the compromise ratio method previously proposed [1] and the newly adopted method have been illustrated with two numerical examples.
Abstract: In this paper zero-dissipative explicit Runge-Kutta
method is derived for solving second-order ordinary differential
equations with periodical solutions. The phase-lag and dissipation
properties for Runge-Kutta (RK) method are also discussed. The new
method has algebraic order three with dissipation of order infinity.
The numerical results for the new method are compared with existing
method when solving the second-order differential equations with
periodic solutions using constant step size.
