Abstract: This paper deals with under actuator dynamic systems such as spring-mass-damper system when the number of control variable is less than the number of state variable. In order to apply optimal control, the controllability must be checked. There are many objective functions to be selected as the goal of the optimal control such as minimum energy, maximum energy and minimum jerk. As the objective function is the first priority, if one like to have the second goal to be applied; however, it could not fit in the objective function format and also avoiding the vector cost for the objective, this paper will illustrate the problem of under actuator dynamic systems with the easiest to deal with comparing between minimum energy and minimum jerk.
Abstract: This research focus on developing a new segmentation method for improving forecasting model which is call trend based segmentation method (TBSM). Generally, the piece-wise linear representation (PLR) can finds some of pair of trading points is well for time series data, but in the complicated stock environment it is not well for stock forecasting because of the stock has more trends of trading. If we consider the trends of trading in stock price for the trading signal which it will improve the precision of forecasting model. Therefore, a TBSM with SVR model used to detect the trading points for various stocks of Taiwanese and America under different trend tendencies. The experimental results show our trading system is more profitable and can be implemented in real time of stock market
Abstract: A wrist-band type biosignal measurement system and its data transfer through human body communication (HBC) were investigated. An HBC method based on pulses of ultra-wide band instead of using frequency or amplitude modulations was studied and implemented since the system became very compact and it was more suited for personal or mobile health monitoring. Our system measured photo-plethysmogram (PPG) and measured PPG signals were transmitted through a finger to a monitoring PC system. The device was compact and low-power consuming. HBC communication has very strongsecurity measures since it does not use wireless network.Furthermore, biosignal monitoring system becomes handy because it does not need to have wire connections.
Abstract: With the increasing number of on-chip components and the critical requirement for processing power, Chip Multiprocessor (CMP) has gained wide acceptance in both academia and industry during the last decade. However, the conventional bus-based onchip communication schemes suffer from very high communication delay and low scalability in large scale systems. Network-on-Chip (NoC) has been proposed to solve the bottleneck of parallel onchip communications by applying different network topologies which separate the communication phase from the computation phase. Observing that the memory bandwidth of the communication between on-chip components and off-chip memory has become a critical problem even in NoC based systems, in this paper, we propose a novel 3D NoC with on-chip Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) in which different layers are dedicated to different functionalities such as processors, cache or memory. Results show that, by using our proposed architecture, average link utilization has reduced by 10.25% for SPLASH-2 workloads. Our proposed design costs 1.12% less execution cycles than the traditional design on average.
Abstract: A study was undertaken to investigate the effect of
liquid nitrogen aeration on mortalities of adult Cryptolestes
furrugineus, rusty grain beetles, in a prototype cardboard grain bin
equipped with an aeration system. The grain bin was filled with Hard
Red Spring wheat and liquid nitrogen was introduced from the bottom
of the bin. The survival of both cold acclimated and unacclimated C.
furrugineus was tested. The study reveals that cold acclimated insects
had higher survival than unacclimated insects under similar cooling
conditions. In most cases, mortalities of as high as 100% were
achieved at the bottom 100 cm of the grain bin for unacclimated
insects for most of the trials. Insect survival increased as the distance
from the bottom of the grain bin increased. There was no adverse
effect of liquid nitrogen aeration on wheat germination.
Abstract: This paper presents a constrained valley detection
algorithm. The intent is to find valleys in the map for the path planning
that enables a robot or a vehicle to move safely. The constraint to the
valley is a desired width and a desired depth to ensure the space for
movement when a vehicle passes through the valley. We propose an
algorithm to find valleys satisfying these 2 dimensional constraints.
The merit of our algorithm is that the pre-processing and the
post-processing are not necessary to eliminate undesired small valleys.
The algorithm is validated through simulation using digitized
elevation data.
Abstract: This paper presents a portable robot that is to use for
welding process in shipbuilding yard. It has six degree of freedom and
3kg payload capability. Its weight is 21.5kg so that human workers can
carry it to the work place. Its body mainly made of magnesium alloy
and aluminum alloy for few parts that require high strength. Since the
distance between robot and controller should be 50m at most, the robot
controller controls the robot through EtherCAT. RTX and KPA are
used for real time EtherCAT control on Windows XP. The
performance of the developed robot was satisfactory, in welding of U
type cell in shipbuilding yard.
Abstract: The study applied a combination of organisational learning models (Senge, 1994: Pedler, Burgoyne and Boydell, 1991) and later adopted fifteen organisational learning principles with one of the biggest energy providers in South East Asia. The purposes of the current study were to: a) investigate the company-s practices on fifteen organisational learning principles; b) explore the perceptions and expectations of its employees in relations to the principles; and c) compare the perceptions and expectations between management and non-management staff toward the fifteen factors. One hundred and ten employees responded on a designed questionnaire and the results indicated that the company was practicing activities that associated with organisational learning principles. Also, according to the T-test results, significant differences between management and non-management respondents were found. Research implications are also provided.
Abstract: Capacitive electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement is an attractive approach for long-term health monitoring. However, there is little literature available on its implementation, especially for multichannel system in standard ECG leads. This paper begins from the design criteria for capacitive ECG measurement and presents a multichannel limb-lead capacitive ECG system with conductive fabric tapes pasted on a double layer PCB as the capacitive sensors. The proposed prototype system incorporates a capacitive driven-body (CDB) circuit to reduce the common-mode power-line interference (PLI). The presented prototype system has been verified to be stable by theoretic analysis and practical long-term experiments. The signal quality is competitive to that acquired by commercial ECG machines. The feasible size and distance of capacitive sensor have also been evaluated by a series of tests. From the test results, it is suggested to be greater than 60 cm2 in sensor size and be smaller than 1.5 mm in distance for capacitive ECG measurement.
Abstract: Direction of Arrival estimation refers to defining a mathematical function called a pseudospectrum that gives an indication of the angle a signal is impinging on the antenna array. This estimation is an efficient method of improving the quality of service in a communication system by focusing the reception and transmission only in the estimated direction thereby increasing fidelity with a provision to suppress interferers. This improvement is largely dependent on the performance of the algorithm employed in the estimation. Many DOA algorithms exists amongst which are MUSIC, Root-MUSIC and ESPRIT. In this paper, performance of these three algorithms is analyzed in terms of complexity, accuracy as assessed and characterized by the CRLB and memory requirements in various environments and array sizes. It is found that the three algorithms are high resolution and dependent on the operating environment and the array size.
Abstract: The three steps of the standard one-way nested grid
for a regional scale of the third generation WAve Model Cycle 4
(WAMC4) is scrutinized. The model application is enabled to solve
the energy balance equation on a coarse resolution grid in order to
produce boundary conditions for a smaller area by the nested grid
technique. In the present study, the model takes a full advantage of the
fine resolution of wind fields in space and time produced by the available
U.S. Navy Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS)
model with 1 degree resolution. The nested grid application of the
model is developed in order to gradually increase the resolution from
the open ocean towards the South China Sea (SCS) and the Gulf of
Thailand (GoT) respectively. The model results were compared with
buoy observations at Ko Chang, Rayong and Huahin locations which
were obtained from the Seawatch project. In addition, the results were
also compared with Satun based weather station which was provided
from Department of Meteorology, Thailand. The data collected from
this station presented the significant wave height (Hs) reached 12.85
m. The results indicated that the tendency of the Hs from the model
in the spherical coordinate propagation with deep water condition in
the fine grid domain agreed well with the Hs from the observations.
Abstract: The nexus between language and culture is so
intertwined and very significant that language is largely seen as a
vehicle for cultural transmission. Culture itself refers to the aggregate
belief system of a people, embellishing its corporate national image
or brand. If we conceive national rebranding as a campaign to
rekindle the patriotic flame in the consciousness of a people towards
its sociocultural imperatives and values, then, Nigerian indigenous
linguistic flame has not been ignited. Consequently, the paper
contends that the current national rebranding policy remains a myth
in the confines of the elitists' intellectual squabble. It however
recommends that the use of our indigenous languages should be
supported by adequate legislation and also propagated by Nollywood
in order to revamp and sustain the people’s interest in their local
languages. Finally, the use of the indigenous Nigerian languages
demonstrates patriotism, an important ingredient for actualizing a
genuine national rebranding.
Abstract: In this paper, the backward Ussor iterative matrix is proposed. The relationship of convergence between the backward Ussor iterative matrix and Jacobi iterative matrix is obtained, which makes the results in the corresponding references be improved and refined. Moreover, numerical examples also illustrate the effectiveness of these conclusions.
Abstract: This is the second part of the paper. It, aside from the
core subroutine test reported previously, focuses on the simulation of
turbulence governed by the full STF Navier-Stokes equations on a
large scale. Law of the wall is found plausible in this study as a model
of the boundary layer dynamics. Model validations proceed to
include velocity profiles of a stationary turbulent Couette flow, pure
sloshing flow simulations, and the identification of water-surface
inclination due to fluid accelerations. Errors resulting from the
irrotational and hydrostatic assumptions are explored when studying
a wind-driven water circulation with no shakings. Illustrative
examples show that this numerical strategy works for the simulation
of sloshing-shear mixed flow in a 3-D rigid rectangular base tank.

Abstract: Magnesium alloys have gained increased attention in recent years in automotive, electronics, and medical industry. This because of magnesium alloys have better properties than aluminum alloys and steels in respects of their low density and high strength to weight ratio. However, the main problems of magnesium alloy welding are the crack formation and the appearance of porosity during the solidification. This paper proposes a unique technique to weld two thin sheets of AZ31B magnesium alloy using a paste containing Ag nanoparticles. The paste containing Ag nanoparticles of 5 nm in average diameter and an organic solvent was used to coat the surface of AZ31B thin sheet. The coated sheet was heated at 100 °C for 60 s to evaporate the solvent. The dried sheet was set as a lower AZ31B sheet on the jig, and then lap fillet welding was carried out by using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser in a closed box filled with argon gas. The characteristics of the microstructure and the corrosion behavior of the joints were analyzed by opticalmicroscopy (OM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and immersion corrosion test. The experimental results show that the wrought AZ31B magnesium alloy can be joined successfully using Ag nanoparticles. Ag nanoparticles insert promote grain refinement, narrower the HAZ width and wider bond width compared to weld without and insert. Corrosion rate of welded AZ31B with Ag nanoparticles reduced up to 44 % compared to base metal. The improvement of corrosion resistance of welded AZ31B with Ag nanoparticles due to finer grains and large grain boundaries area which consist of high Al content. β-phase Mg17Al12 could serve as effective barrier and suppressed further propagation of corrosion. Furthermore, Ag distribution in fusion zone provide much more finer grains and may stabilize the magnesium solid solution making it less soluble or less anodic in aqueous
Abstract: As the disfunctions of the information society and
social development progress, intrusion problems such as malicious
replies, spam mail, private information leakage, phishing, and
pharming, and side effects such as the spread of unwholesome
information and privacy invasion are becoming serious social
problems. Illegal access to information is also becoming a problem as
the exchange and sharing of information increases on the basis of the
extension of the communication network. On the other hand, as the
communication network has been constructed as an international,
global system, the legal response against invasion and cyber-attack
from abroad is facing its limit. In addition, in an environment where
the important infrastructures are managed and controlled on the basis
of the information communication network, such problems pose a
threat to national security. Countermeasures to such threats are
developed and implemented on a yearly basis to protect the major
infrastructures of information communication. As a part of such
measures, we have developed a methodology for assessing the
information protection level which can be used to establish the
quantitative object setting method required for the improvement of the
information protection level.
Abstract: In the paper a method of modeling text for Polish is
discussed. The method is aimed at transforming continuous input text
into a text consisting of sentences in so called canonical form, whose
characteristic is, among others, a complete structure as well as no
anaphora or ellipses. The transformation is lossless as to the content
of text being transformed. The modeling method has been worked
out for the needs of the Thetos system, which translates Polish
written texts into the Polish sign language. We believe that the
method can be also used in various applications that deal with the
natural language, e.g. in a text summary generator for Polish.
Abstract: Stochastic resonance (SR) is a phenomenon whereby
the signal transmission or signal processing through certain nonlinear
systems can be improved by adding noise. This paper discusses SR in
nonlinear signal detection by a simple test statistic, which can be
computed from multiple noisy data in a binary decision problem based
on a maximum a posteriori probability criterion. The performance of
detection is assessed by the probability of detection error Per . When
the input signal is subthreshold signal, we establish that benefit from
noise can be gained for different noises and confirm further that the
subthreshold SR exists in nonlinear signal detection. The efficacy of
SR is significantly improved and the minimum of Per can
dramatically approach to zero as the sample number increases. These
results show the robustness of SR in signal detection and extend the
applicability of SR in signal processing.
Abstract: The effect of thermally induced stress on the modal
properties of highly elliptical core optical fibers is studied in this
work using a finite element method. The stress analysis is carried out
and anisotropic refractive index change is calculated using both the
conventional plane strain approximation and the generalized plane
strain approach. After considering the stress optical effect, the modal
analysis of the fiber is performed to obtain the solutions of
fundamental and higher order modes. The modal effective index,
modal birefringence, group effective index, group birefringence, and
dispersion of different modes of the fiber are presented. For
propagation properties, it can be seen that the results depend much on
the approach of stress analysis.
