Abstract: Nature is a great source of inspiration for solving
complex problems in networks. It helps to find the optimal solution.
Metaheuristic algorithm is one of the nature-inspired algorithm which
helps in solving routing problem in networks. The dynamic features,
changing of topology frequently and limited bandwidth make the
routing, challenging in MANET. Implementation of appropriate
routing algorithms leads to the efficient transmission of data in
mobile ad hoc networks. The algorithms that are inspired by the
principles of naturally-distributed/collective behavior of social
colonies have shown excellence in dealing with complex
optimization problems. Thus some of the bio-inspired metaheuristic
algorithms help to increase the efficiency of routing in ad hoc
networks. This survey work presents the overview of bio-inspired
metaheuristic algorithms which support the efficiency of routing in
mobile ad hoc networks.
Abstract: The characteristic requirement for producing
rectangular shape bottles was a uniform thickness of the plastic bottle
wall. Die shaping was a good technique which controlled the wall
thickness of bottles. An advance technology which was the finite
element method (FEM) for blowing parison to be a rectangular shape
bottle was conducted to reduce waste plastic from a trial and error
method of a die shaping and parison control method. The artificial
intelligent (AI) comprised of artificial neural network and genetic
algorithm was selected to optimize the die gap shape from the FEM
results. The application of AI technique could optimize the suitable
die gap shape for the parison blow molding which did not depend on
the parison control method to produce rectangular bottles with the
uniform wall. Particularly, this application can be used with cheap
blow molding machines without a parison controller therefore it will
reduce cost of production in the bottle blow molding process.
Abstract: Composite material based on Fe3Si micro-particles
and Mn-Zn nano-ferrite was prepared using powder metallurgy
technology. The sol-gel followed by autocombustion process was
used for synthesis of Mn0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 ferrite. 3 wt.% of mechanically
milled ferrite was mixed with Fe3Si powder alloy. Mixed micro-nano
powder system was homogenized by the Resonant Acoustic Mixing
using ResodynLabRAM Mixer. This non-invasive homogenization
technique was used to preserve spherical morphology of Fe3Si
powder particles. Uniaxial cold pressing in the closed die at pressure
600 MPa was applied to obtain a compact sample. Microwave
sintering of green compact was realized at 800°C, 20 minutes, in air.
Density of the powders and composite was measured by
Hepycnometry. Impulse excitation method was used to measure
elastic properties of sintered composite. Mechanical properties were
evaluated by measurement of transverse rupture strength (TRS) and
Vickers hardness (HV). Resistivity was measured by 4 point probe
method. Ferrite phase distribution in volume of the composite was
documented by metallographic analysis.
It has been found that nano-ferrite particle distributed among
micro- particles of Fe3Si powder alloy led to high relative density
(~93%) and suitable mechanical properties (TRS >100 MPa, HV
~1GPa, E-modulus ~140 GPa) of the composite. High electric
resistivity (R~6.7 ohm.cm) of prepared composite indicate their
potential application as soft magnetic material at medium and high
frequencies.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to select the best strains of
Saccharomyces cerevisiae able to resist lead and cadmium. Ten
strains were screened on the basis of their resistance at different
concentrations of 0, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 ppm for Pb and 0, 0.5,
1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 ppm for Cd. The properties of baker's yeast
quality were decreased by the increase of Pb or Cd in growth
medium. The slope values of yield, total viable cells and gassing
power of produced baker's yeast were investigated as an indicator of
metal resistant. In addition, concentrations of Pb and Cd in produced
baker's yeast were determined. The strain of S. cerevisiae FH-620
had the highest resistance against Pb and Cd and had the minimum
levels of both two investigated metals in produced baker's yeast.
Abstract: This work reports the potential of using Palm Kernel
(PK) ash and shell as a partial substitute for Portland Cement (PC)
and coarse aggregate in the development of mortar and concrete. PK
ash and shell are agro-waste materials from palm oil mills, the
disposal of PK ash and shell is an environmental problem of concern.
The PK ash has pozzolanic properties that enables it as a partial
replacement for cement and also plays an important role in the
strength and durability of concrete, its use in concrete will alleviate
the increasing challenges of scarcity and high cost of cement. In order
to investigate the PC replacement potential of PK ash, three types of
PK ash were produced at varying temperature (350-750C) and they
were used to replace up to 50% PC. The PK shell was used to replace
up to 100% coarse aggregate in order to study its aggregate
replacement potential. The testing programme included material
characterisation, the determination of compressive strength, tensile
splitting strength and chemical durability in aggressive sulfatebearing
exposure conditions. The 90 day compressive results showed
a significant strength gain (up to 26.2 N/mm2). The Portland cement
and conventional coarse aggregate has significantly higher influence
in the strength gain compared to the equivalent PK ash and PK shell.
The chemical durability results demonstrated that after a prolonged
period of exposure, significant strength losses in all the concretes
were observed. This phenomenon is explained, due to lower change
in concrete morphology and inhibition of reaction species and the
final disruption of the aggregate cement paste matrix.
Abstract: The organizations in the knowledge economy era have
recognized the importance of building knowledge assets for
sustainable growth and development. In comparison to other
industries, Information Technology (IT) enterprises, holds an edge in
developing an effective Knowledge Management (KM) programmethanks
to their in-house technological abilities. This paper tries to
study the various knowledge based incentive programmes and its
effect on Knowledge Sharing and Learning in the context of the
Indian IT sector. A conceptual model is developed linking KM
Incentives, Knowledge Sharing and Learning. A questionnaire study
is conducted to collect primary data from the knowledge workers of
the IT organizations located in India. The data was analysed using
Structural Equation Modeling using Partial Least Square method. The
results show a strong influence of knowledge management incentives
on knowledge sharing and an indirect influence on learning.
Abstract: Every machine plays roles of client and server
simultaneously in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. Though a P2P
network has many advantages over traditional client-server models
regarding efficiency and fault-tolerance, it also faces additional
security threats. Users/IT administrators should be aware of risks
from malicious code propagation, downloaded content legality, and
P2P software’s vulnerabilities. Security and preventative measures
are a must to protect networks from potential sensitive information
leakage and security breaches. Bit Torrent is a popular and scalable
P2P file distribution mechanism which successfully distributes large
files quickly and efficiently without problems for origin server. Bit
Torrent achieved excellent upload utilization according to
measurement studies, but it also raised many questions as regards
utilization in settings, than those measuring, fairness, and Bit
Torrent’s mechanisms choice. This work proposed a block selection
technique using Fuzzy ACO with optimal rules selected using ACO.
Abstract: In order to study the aerodynamic performance of a
semi-flexible membrane wing, Fluid-Structure Interaction simulations
have been performed. The fluid problem has been modeled using
two different approaches which are the vortex panel method and the
numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Nonlinear analysis
of the structural problem is performed using the Finite Element
Method. Comparison between the two fluid solvers has been made.
Aerodynamic performance of the wing is discussed regarding its
lift and drag coefficients and they are compared with those of the
equivalent rigid wing.
Abstract: The objective of this study was to identify the optimal
level of partial replacement of Portland cement by the ashes
originating from burning straw and bagasse from sugar cane (ASB).
Order to this end, were made five series of flat plates and cylindrical
bodies: control and others with the partial replacement in 20, 30, 40
and 50% of ASB in relation to the mass of the Ordinary Portland
cement, and conducted a mechanical testing of simple axial
compression (cylindrical bodies) and the four-point bending (flat
plates) and determined water absorption (WA), bulk density (BD)
and apparent void volume (AVV) on both types of specimens. Based
on the data obtained, it may be noted that the control treatment
containing only Portland cement, obtained the best results. However,
the cylindrical bodies with 20% ashes showed better results
compared to the other treatments. And in the formulations plates, the
treatment which showed the best results was 30% cement
replacement by ashes.
Abstract: Biofuels production has come forth as a future
technology to combat the problem of depleting fossil fuels. Bio-based
ethanol production from enzymatic lignocellulosic biomass
degradation serves an efficient method and catching the eye of
scientific community. High cost of the enzyme is the major obstacle
in preventing the commercialization of this process. Thus main
objective of the present study was to optimize composition of
medium components for enhancing cellulase production by newly
isolated strain of Bacillus tequilensis. Nineteen factors were taken
into account using statistical Plackett-Burman Design. The significant
variables influencing the cellulose production were further employed
in statistical Response Surface Methodology using Central
Composite Design for maximizing cellulase production. The
optimum medium composition for cellulase production was: peptone
(4.94 g/L), ammonium chloride (4.99 g/L), yeast extract (2.00 g/L),
Tween-20 (0.53 g/L), calcium chloride (0.20 g/L) and cobalt chloride
(0.60 g/L) with pH 7, agitation speed 150 rpm and 72 h incubation at
37oC. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed high coefficient of
determination (R2) of 0.99. Maximum cellulase productivity of 11.5
IU/ml was observed against the model predicted value of 13 IU/ml.
This was found to be optimally active at 60oC and pH 5.5.
Abstract: The practice of freeing monuments from subsequent
additions crosses the entire history of conservation and it is
traditionally connected to the aim of valorisation, both for cultural
and educational purpose and recently even for touristic exploitation.
Defence heritage has been widely interested by these cultural and
technical moods from philological restoration to critic innovations. A
renovated critical analysis of Italian episodes and in particular the
Sardinian case of the area of San Pancrazio in Cagliari, constitute an
important lesson about the limits of this practice and the uncertainty
in terms of results, towards the definition of a sustainable good
practice in the restoration of military architectures.
Abstract: An experiment was conducted to determine the effect
of pollination on seed quality of rapeseed in Chitwan, Nepal during
2012-2013. The experiment was designed in Randomized Complete
Block with four replications and five treatments. The rapeseed plots
were caged with mosquito nets at 10% flowering except natural
pollination. Two-framed colonies of Apis mellifera L. and Apis
cerana F. were introduced separately for pollination, and control plot
caged without pollinators. The highest germination percent was
observed on Apis cerana F. pollinated plot seeds (90.50%
germination) followed by Apis mellifera L. pollinated plots (87.25 %)
and lowest on control plots (42.00% germination) seeds. Similarly,
seed test weight of Apis cerana F. pollinated plots (3.22 gm/ 1000
seed) and Apis mellifera L. pollinated plots (2.93 gm/1000 seed) were
and lowest on control plots (2.26 gm/ 1000 seed) recorded. Likewise,
oil content was recorded highest on pollinated by Apis cerana F.
(36.1%) followed by pollinated by Apis mellifera L. (35.4%) and
lowest on control plots (32.8%). This study clearly indicated
pollination increases the seed quality of rapeseed and therefore,
management of honeybee is necessary for producing higher quality of
rapeseed under Chitwan condition.
Abstract: Waste silicon carbide (waste SiC) filled high-density
polyethylene (HDPE) with and without surface modifiers were
studied. Two types of surface modifiers namely; high-density
polyethylene-grafted-maleic anhydride (HDPE-g-MA) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane have been used in this study. The
composites were produced using a two roll mill, extruder and shaped
in a hydraulic compression molding machine. The mechanical
properties of polymer composites such as flexural strength and
modulus, impact strength, tensile strength, stiffness and hardness
were investigated over a range of compositions. It was found that,
flexural strength and modulus, tensile modulus and hardness
increased, whereas impact strength and tensile strength decreased
with the increasing in filler contents, compared to the neat HDPE. At
similar filler content, the effect of both surface modifiers increased
flexural modulus, impact strength, tensile strength and stiffness but
reduced the flexural strength. Morphological investigation using
SEM revealed that the improvement in mechanical properties was
due to enhancement of the interfacial adhesion between waste SiC
and HDPE.
Abstract: The study of the electrical signals produced by neural
activities of human brain is called Electroencephalography. In this
paper, we propose an automatic and efficient EEG signal
classification approach. The proposed approach is used to classify the
EEG signal into two classes: epileptic seizure or not. In the proposed
approach, we start with extracting the features by applying Discrete
Wavelet Transform (DWT) in order to decompose the EEG signals
into sub-bands. These features, extracted from details and
approximation coefficients of DWT sub-bands, are used as input to
Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The classification is based on
reducing the feature dimension using PCA and deriving the supportvectors
using Support Vector Machine (SVM). The experimental are
performed on real and standard dataset. A very high level of
classification accuracy is obtained in the result of classification.
Abstract: This study was carried out to evaluate the nutritional
composition of the African River Prawn (Macrobrachium
vollenhovenii) in relation to Chokor (traditional) and Altona
(improved traditional) drying techniques used in the preservation and
processing of prawns by carrying out proximate composition
analysis. The value obtained for the proximate analysis of Chokor
and Altona smoke dried prawns were; Moisture (14.90% and
15.15%), Dry matter (85.10% and 84.85%), Protein (55.80% and
58.87%), Crude fat (1.95% and 1.98%), Crude fibre (21.40% and
13.11%), Carbohydrate (0.54% and 0.54%) and Ash (19.76% and
15.86%) respectively. The proximate mineral composition of Chokor
and Altona smoke dried prawns were; Calcium (5.66% and 4.20%)
and Phosphorus (9. 22% and 6.34%) respectively. Result shows there
was no loss of nutritional value with respect to Chokor and Altona
drying techniques used in the processing of prawns.
Abstract: This paper presents the details of a numerical study of
buckling and post buckling behaviour of laminated carbon fiber
reinforced plastic (CFRP) thin-walled cylindrical shell under axial
compression using asymmetric meshing technique (AMT) by
ABAQUS. AMT is considered to be a new perturbation method to
introduce disturbance without changing geometry, boundary
conditions or loading conditions. Asymmetric meshing affects both
predicted buckling load and buckling mode shapes. Cylindrical shell
having lay-up orientation [0^o/+45^o/-45^o/0^o] with radius to thickness
ratio (R/t) equal to 265 and length to radius ratio (L/R) equal to 1.5 is
analysed numerically. A series of numerical simulations
(experiments) are carried out with symmetric and asymmetric
meshing to study the effect of asymmetric meshing on predicted
buckling behaviour. Asymmetric meshing technique is employed in
both axial direction and circumferential direction separately using
two different methods, first by changing the shell element size and
varying the total number elements, and second by varying the shell
element size and keeping total number of elements constant. The
results of linear analysis (Eigenvalue analysis) and non-linear
analysis (Riks analysis) using symmetric meshing agree well with
analytical results. The results of numerical analysis are presented in
form of non-dimensional load factor, which is the ratio of buckling
load using asymmetric meshing technique to buckling load using
symmetric meshing technique. Using AMT, load factor has about 2%
variation for linear eigenvalue analysis and about 2% variation for
non-linear Riks analysis. The behaviour of load end-shortening curve
for pre-buckling is same for both symmetric and asymmetric meshing
but for asymmetric meshing curve behaviour in post-buckling
becomes extraordinarily complex. The major conclusions are:
different methods of AMT have small influence on predicted
buckling load and significant influence on load displacement curve
behaviour in post buckling; AMT in axial direction and AMT in
circumferential direction have different influence on buckling load
and load displacement curve in post-buckling.
Abstract: High Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of the
transmitted signal is a serious problem in multicarrier systems (MC),
such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), or in
Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems,
due to large number of subcarriers. This effect is possible reduce with
some PAPR reduction techniques. Spreading sequences at the
presence of Saleh and Rapp models of high power amplifier (HPA)
have big influence on the behavior of system. In this paper we
investigate the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of MC-CDMA
systems. Basically we can see from simulations that the MC-CDMA
system with Iterative algorithm can be providing significantly better
results than the MC-CDMA system. The results of our analyses are
verified via simulation.
Abstract: Background: With the perceived pain and poor
function experienced following knee arthroplasty, patients usually
feel un-satisfied. Yet, a controversy still persists on the appropriate
operative technique that doesn’t affect proprioception much.
Purpose: This study compared the effects of Cruciate Retaining
(CR) and Posterior Stabilized (PS) total knee arthroplasty (TKA on
dynamic balance, pain and functional performance following
rehabilitation.
Methods: Thirty patients with CRTKA (group I), thirty with
PSTKA (group II) and fifteen indicated for arthroplasty but weren’t
operated on yet (group III) participated in the study. The mean age
was 54.53±3.44, 55.13±3.48 and 55.33±2.32 years and BMI
35.7±3.03, 35.7±1.99 and 35.73±1.03 kg/m2 for groups I, II and III
respectively. The Berg Balance Scale (BBS), WOMAC pain subscale
and Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) and Stair-Climbing (SC) tests were
used for assessment. Assessments were conducted four weeks preand
post-operatively, three, six and twelve months post-operatively
with the control group being assessed at the same time intervals. The
post-operative rehabilitation involved hospitalization (1st week),
home-based (2nd-4th weeks), and outpatient clinic (5th-12th weeks)
programs, follow-up to all groups for twelve months.
Results: The Mixed design MANOVA revealed that group I had
significantly lower pain scores and SC time compared with group II
three, six and twelve months post-operatively. Moreover, the BBS
scores increased significantly and the pain scores and TUG and SC
time decreased significantly six months post-operatively compared
with four weeks pre- and post-operatively and three months postoperatively
in groups I and II with the opposite being true four weeks
post-operatively. But no significant differences in BBS scores, pain
scores and TUG and SC time between six and twelve months postoperatively
in groups I and II.
Interpretation/Conclusion: CRTKA is preferable to PSTKA,
possibly due to the preserved human proprioceptors in the un-excised
PCL.
Abstract: The current study investigated the influence of milling
time and ball-to-powder (BPR) weight ratio on the microstructural
constituents and mechanical properties of bulk nanocrystalline Al;
Al-10%Cu; and Al-10%Cu-5%Ti alloys. Powder consolidation was
carried out using a high frequency induction heat sintering where the
processed metal powders were sintered into a dense and strong bulk
material. The powders and the bulk samples were characterized using
XRD and FEGSEM techniques. The mechanical properties were
evaluated at various temperatures of 25°C, 100°C, 200°C, 300°C and
400°C to study the thermal stability of the processed alloys. The
processed bulk nanocrystalline alloys displayed extremely high
hardness values even at elevated temperatures. The Al-10%Cu-5%Ti
alloy displayed the highest hardness values at room and elevated
temperatures which are related to the presence of Ti-containing
phases such as Al3Ti and AlCu2Ti. These phases are thermally stable
and retain the high hardness values at elevated temperatures up to
400ºC.
Abstract: In this article is reported a construction and some
properties of the 5iD viewer, the system recording simultaneously
5 views of a given experimental object. Properties of the system
are demonstrated on the analysis of fish schooling behaviour. It
is demonstrated the method of instrument calibration which allows
inclusion of image distortion and it is proposed and partly tested
also the method of distance assessment in the case that only two
opposite cameras are available. Finally, we demonstrate how the state
trajectory of the behaviour of the fish school may be constructed from
the entropy of the system.
