Abstract: Globular clusters (GC) are important objects for tracing
the early evolution of a galaxy. We study the correlation between the
cluster population and the global properties of the host galaxy. We
found that the correlation between cluster population (NGC) and
the baryonic mass (Mb) of the host galaxy are best described as

−5.6038Mb. In order to understand the origin of the U -shape
relation between the GC specific frequency (SN) and Mb (caused
by the high value of SN for dwarfs galaxies and giant ellipticals
and a minimum SN for intermediate mass galaxies≈ 1010M), we
derive a theoretical model for the specific frequency (SNth). The
theoretical model for SNth is based on the slope of the power-law
embedded cluster mass function (β) and different time scale (Δt) of
the forming galaxy. Our results show a good agreement between the
observation and the model at a certain β and Δt. The model seems
able to reproduce higher value of SNth of β = 1.5 at the midst
formation time scale.
Abstract: The liberalisation of the education industry has
exposed the institute of higher learning (IHL) in Malaysia to the
financial challenges. Without good financial standing, public
institution will rely on the government funding. Ostensibly, this
contradicts with the government’s aspiration to make universities
self-sufficient. With stiff competition from private institutes of higher
learning, IHL need to be prepared at the forefront level. The
corporate identity itself is the entrance to the world of higher learning
and it is in this uniqueness, it will be able to distinguish itself from
competitors. This paper examined the perception of the stakeholders
at one of the public universities in the east coast region in Malaysia
on the perceived reputation and how the university communicate its
preparedness for self-sustainability through corporate identity. The
findings indicated while the stakeholders embraced the challenges in
facing the stiff competition and struggling market conditions, most of
them felt the university should put more efforts in mobilising the
corporate identity to its constituencies.
Abstract: The effect of nano Co3O4 addition on the
superconducting properties of (Bi, Pb)-2223 system was studied. The
samples were prepared by the acetate coprecipitation method. The
Co3O4 with different sizes (10-30 nm and 30-50 nm) from x=0.00 to
0.05 was added to Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy(Co3O4)x. Phase analysis by
XRD method, microstructural examination by SEM and dc electrical
resistivity by four point probe method were done to characterize the
samples. The X-ray diffraction patterns of all the samples indicated
the majority Bi-2223 phase along with minor Bi-2212 and Bi-2201
phases. The volume fraction was estimated from the intensities of Bi-
2223, Bi-2212 and Bi-2201 phase. The sample with x=0.01 wt% of
the added Co3O4 (10-30 nm size) showed the highest volume fraction
of Bi-2223 phase (72%) and the highest superconducting transition
temperature, Tc (~102 K). The non-added sample showed the highest
Tc(~103 K) compared to added samples with nano Co3O4 (30-50 nm
size) added samples. Both the onset critical temperature Tc(onset)
and zero electrical resistivity temperature Tc(R=0) were in the range
of 103-115 ±1K and 91-103 ±1K respectively for samples with added
Co3O4 (10-30 nm and 30-50 nm).
