Abstract: Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) features
are widely used as acoustic features for speech recognition as well
as speaker recognition. In MFCC feature representation, the Mel frequency
scale is used to get a high resolution in low frequency region,
and a low resolution in high frequency region. This kind of processing
is good for obtaining stable phonetic information, but not suitable
for speaker features that are located in high frequency regions. The
speaker individual information, which is non-uniformly distributed
in the high frequencies, is equally important for speaker recognition.
Based on this fact we proposed an admissible wavelet packet based
filter structure for speaker identification. Multiresolution capabilities
of wavelet packet transform are used to derive the new features.
The proposed scheme differs from previous wavelet based works,
mainly in designing the filter structure. Unlike others, the proposed
filter structure does not follow Mel scale. The closed-set speaker
identification experiments performed on the TIMIT database shows
improved identification performance compared to other commonly
used Mel scale based filter structures using wavelets.
Abstract: A genetic algorithm (GA) based feature subset
selection algorithm is proposed in which the correlation structure of
the features is exploited. The subset of features is validated according
to the classification performance. Features derived from the
continuous wavelet transform are potentially strongly correlated.
GA-s that do not take the correlation structure of features into
account are inefficient. The proposed algorithm forms clusters of
correlated features and searches for a good candidate set of clusters.
Secondly a search within the clusters is performed. Different
simulations of the algorithm on a real-case data set with strong
correlations between features show the increased classification
performance. Comparison is performed with a standard GA without
use of the correlation structure.
Abstract: Intermittent aeration process can be easily applied on
the existing activated sludge system and is highly reliable against the loading changes. It can be operated in a relatively simple way as well.
Since the moving-bed biofilm reactor method processes pollutants by attaching and securing the microorganisms on the media, the process
efficiency can be higher compared to the suspended growth biological
treatment process, and can reduce the return of sludge. In this study,
the existing intermittent aeration process with alternating flow being
applied on the oxidation ditch is applied on the continuous flow stirred tank reactor with advantages from both processes, and we would like
to develop the process to significantly reduce the return of sludge in the clarifier and to secure the reliable quality of treated water by
adding the moving media. Corresponding process has the appropriate
form as an infrastructure based on u- environment in future u- City and
is expected to accelerate the implementation of u-Eco city in conjunction with city based services. The system being conducted in a
laboratory scale has been operated in HRT 8hours except for the final
clarifier and showed the removal efficiency of 97.7 %, 73.1 % and 9.4
% in organic matters, TN and TP, respectively with operating range of
4hour cycle on system SRT 10days. After adding the media, the removal efficiency of phosphorus showed a similar level compared to
that before the addition, but the removal efficiency of nitrogen was
improved by 7~10 %. In addition, the solids which were maintained in
MLSS 1200~1400 at 25 % of media packing were attached all onto the
media, which produced no sludge entering the clarifier. Therefore, the
return of sludge is not needed any longer.
Abstract: This paper proposes a robot able to climb Columns.
This robot is not dependent on the diameter and material of the
columns. Some climbing robots have been designed up to now but
Koala robot was designed and fabricated for climbing columns
exclusively. Simple kinematics of climbing in the nature inspired us
to design this robot. We used two linear mechanisms to grip the
column. The gripper consists of a DC motor and a power screw
mechanism with a linear bushing as a guide. This mechanism
provides enough force to grip the column. In addition we needed an
actuator for climbing the column; hence, two pneumatic jacks were
used. All the mechanical parts were designed according to the
exerted forces and operational condition. The prototype can be
simply installed and controlled on the column by an inexperienced
operator. This robot is intended for inspection and surveillance of
pipes in oil industries and power poles in electric industries.
Abstract: This paper deals with rheological behavior of tomato
paste from the view point of time independent properties inclusive of
processing variables such as sample temperature which influence on
rheological properties as well as breaking temperature and
concentration which beside the rheological properties, influence on
the quality of final product. With this aim 10 tomato paste samples at
various concentrations (17-25%) and breaking temperatures (65-
85 C o ) have been produced. The experimental results showed tomato
paste behaves as a non-Newtonian semi-fluid which follows power
law model that consistency coefficient (K) is supposed function of
breaking temperature, concentration and sample temperature with
consideration to superimpose function.
Abstract: This study investigates the roles of knowledge
acquisition, absorptive capacity, and innovation capability in finance
and manufacturing industries. With 362 valid questionnaires from
manufactures and financial industries in Taiwan, we examine the
relationships between absorptive capacity, knowledge acquisition and
innovation capability using a structural equation model. The results
indicate that absorptive capacity is the mediator between knowledge
acquisition and innovation capability, and that knowledge acquisition
has a positive effect on absorptive capacity.
Abstract: In order to implement flexibility as well as survivable
capacities over passive optical network (PON), a new automatic
random fault-recovery mechanism with array-waveguide-grating
based (AWG-based) optical switch (OSW) is presented. Firstly,
wavelength-division-multiplexing and optical code-division
multiple-access (WDM/OCDMA) scheme are configured to meet the
various geographical locations requirement between optical network
unit (ONU) and optical line terminal (OLT). The AWG-base optical
switch is designed and viewed as central star-mesh topology to
prohibit/decrease the duplicated redundant elements such as fiber and
transceiver as well. Hence, by simple monitoring and routing switch
algorithm, random fault-recovery capacity is achieved over
bi-directional (up/downstream) WDM/OCDMA scheme. When error
of distribution fiber (DF) takes place or bit-error-rate (BER) is higher
than 10-9 requirement, the primary/slave AWG-based OSW are
adjusted and controlled dynamically to restore the affected ONU
groups via the other working DFs immediately.
Abstract: Stress Concentration Factors are significant in
machine design as it gives rise to localized stress when any change in
the design of surface or abrupt change in the cross section occurs.
Almost all machine components and structural members contain
some form of geometrical or microstructural discontinuities. These
discontinuities are very dangerous and lead to failure. So, it is very
much essential to analyze the stress concentration factors for critical
applications like Turbine Rotors. In this paper Finite Element
Analysis (FEA) with extremely fine mesh in the vicinity of the
blades of Steam Turbine Rotor is applied to determine stress
concentration factors. A model of Steam Turbine Rotor is shown in
Fig. 1.
Abstract: A novel design of two-wheeled robotic vehicle with moving payload is presented in this paper. A mathematical model describing the vehicle dynamics is derived and simulated in Matlab Simulink environment. Two control strategies were developed to stabilise the vehicle in the upright position. A robust Proportional- Integral-Derivative (PID) control strategy has been implemented and initially tested to measure the system performance, while the second control strategy is to use a hybrid fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The results are given on a comparative basis for the system performance in terms of disturbance rejection, control algorithms robustness as well as the control effort in terms of input torque.
Abstract: In this paper, linear multistep technique using power
series as the basis function is used to develop the block methods
which are suitable for generating direct solution of the special second
order ordinary differential equations of the form y′′ = f(x,y), a < = x < = b with associated initial or boundary conditions. The continuaous hybrid formulations enable us to differentiate and evaluate at some
grids and off – grid points to obtain two different three discrete
schemes, each of order (4,4,4)T, which were used in block form for
parallel or sequential solutions of the problems. The computational
burden and computer time wastage involved in the usual reduction of
second order problem into system of first order equations are avoided
by this approach. Furthermore, a stability analysis and efficiency of
the block method are tested on linear and non-linear ordinary
differential equations whose solutions are oscillatory or nearly
periodic in nature, and the results obtained compared favourably with
the exact solution.
Abstract: The work reported in this paper is motivated by the fact that there is a need to apply autonomic computing concepts to parallel computing systems. Advancing on prior work based on intelligent cores [36], a swarm-array computing approach, this paper focuses on 'Intelligent agents' another swarm-array computing approach in which the task to be executed on a parallel computing core is considered as a swarm of autonomous agents. A task is carried to a computing core by carrier agents and is seamlessly transferred between cores in the event of a predicted failure, thereby achieving self-ware objectives of autonomic computing. The feasibility of the proposed swarm-array computing approach is validated on a multi-agent simulator.
Abstract: Participation in global trade means that Chinas vegetables and fruits industry faces international food safety standards and increased scrutiny worldwide. The objectives of this paper were to investigate how existing food safety standards and regulations in the importing countries impact the export of vegetables and fruits from China. This paper discussed the current and historical situations of Chinas vegetables and fruits export from 1996 to 2010, analyzed the Maximum Residual Limit (MRL) standards of pesticides imposed by importing countries, quantitatively estimated the impacts of food safety standards on Chinas vegetables and fruits export based on a gravity model. The results showed that although transportation distance between trade partners and tariff rates on vegetables and fruits were still the importantly resistant factors for China export, vegetables and fruits export was sensitive to the number of regulated pesticides, the strictness, and the level of food safety standards imposed by importing countries, which showed a significant trade flow effect, stricter food safety standards, increased number of regulated pesticides significantly inhibit China export of vegetables and fruits. Moreover, Chinas food safety standards also showed a significantly effect on vegetables and fruits export, which inhibited export to some extent. Abstract: According to the theory of capital structure, this paper uses principal component analysis and linear regression analysis to study the relationship between the debt characteristics of the private listed companies in Jiangsu Province and their business performance. The results show that the average debt ratio of the 29 private listed companies selected from the sample is lower. And it is found that for the sample whose debt ratio is lower than 80%, its debt ratio is negatively related to corporate performance, while for the sample whose debt ratio is beyond 80%, the relationship of debt financing and enterprise performance shows the different trends. The conclusions reflect the drawbacks may exist that the debt ratio is relatively low and having not take full advantage of debt governance effect of the private listed companies in Jiangsu Province.
Abstract: In this paper, the Lennard -Jones potential is applied
to molecules of liquid argon as well as its vapor and platinum as solid
surface in order to perform a non-equilibrium molecular dynamics
simulation to study the microscopic aspects of liquid-vapor-solid
interactions. The channel is periodic in x and y directions and along z
direction it is bounded by atomic walls. It was found that density of
the liquids near the solid walls fluctuated greatly and that the
structure was more like a solid than a liquid. This indicates that the
interactions of solid and liquid molecules are very strong. The
resultant surface tension, liquid density and vapor density are found
to be well predicted when compared with the experimental data for
argon. Liquid and vapor densities were found to depend on the cutoff
radius which induces the use of P3M (particle-particle particle-mesh)
method which was implemented for evaluation of force and surface
tension.
Abstract: Reliable information about tool temperature
distribution is of central importance in metal cutting. In this study,
tool-chip interface temperature was determined in cutting of ST37
steel workpiece by applying HSS as the cutting tool in dry turning.
Two different approaches were implemented for temperature
measuring: an embedded thermocouple (RTD) in to the cutting tool
and infrared (IR) camera. Comparisons are made between
experimental data and results of MSC.SuperForm and FLUENT
software.
An investigation of heat generation in cutting tool was performed
by varying cutting parameters at the stable cutting tool geometry and
results were saved in a computer; then the diagrams of tool
temperature vs. various cutting parameters were obtained. The
experimental results reveal that the main factors of the increasing
cutting temperature are cutting speed (V ), feed rate ( S ) and depth
of cut ( h ), respectively. It was also determined that simultaneously
change in cutting speed and feed rate has the maximum effect on
increasing cutting temperature.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach to finding a
priori interesting regions in mammograms. In order to delineate those
regions of interest (ROI-s) in mammograms, which appear to be
prominent, a topographic representation called the iso-level contour
map consisting of iso-level contours at multiple intensity levels and
region segmentation based-thresholding have been proposed. The
simulation results indicate that the computed boundary gives the
detection rate of 99.5% accuracy.
Abstract: The most reliable and accurate description of the actual behavior of a software system is its source code. However, not all questions about the system can be answered directly by resorting to this repository of information. What the reverse engineering methodology aims at is the extraction of abstract, goal-oriented “views" of the system, able to summarize relevant properties of the computation performed by the program. While concentrating on reverse engineering we had modeled the C++ files by designing the translator.

(OBSS) module that, starting from geometry information of a ship

distribution of all weights onboard calculates the ship floating
conditions (in draught, heel and trim).
