Abstract: In this paper, a alternative structure method for
continuous time sigma delta modulator is presented. In this
modulator for implementation of integrators in loop filter second
generation current conveyors are employed. The modulator is
designed in CMOS technology and features low power consumption
(65db),
and with 180khZ bandwidth. Simulation results confirm that this
design is suitable for data converters.
Abstract: An adaptive neural network controller for
autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) is presented in this paper.
The AUV model is highly nonlinear because of many factors, such as
hydrodynamic drag, damping, and lift forces, Coriolis and centripetal
forces, gravity and buoyancy forces, as well as forces from thruster.
In this regards, a nonlinear neural network is used to approximate the
nonlinear uncertainties of AUV dynamics, thus overcoming some
limitations of conventional controllers and ensure good performance.
The uniform ultimate boundedness of AUV tracking errors and the
stability of the proposed control system are guaranteed based on
Lyapunov theory. Numerical simulation studies for motion control of
an AUV are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the
proposed controller.
Abstract: Programmable logic controllers are the main controllers in the today's industries; they are used for several applications in industrial control systems and there are lots of examples exist from the PLC applications in industries especially in big companies and plants such as refineries, power plants, petrochemical companies, steel companies, and food and production companies. In the PLCs there are some functions in the function library in software that can be used in PLC programs as basic program elements. The aim of this project are introducing and implementing a new function block of a neural network to the function library of PLC. This block can be applied for some control applications or nonlinear functions calculations after it has been trained for these applications. The implemented neural network is a Perceptron neural network with three layers, three input nodes and one output node. The block can be used in manual or automatic mode. In this paper the structure of the implemented function block, the parameters and the training method of the network are presented by considering the especial method of PLC programming and its complexities. Finally the application of the new block is compared with a classic simulated block and the results are presented.
Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a novel platform
encryption method, which modify its keys and random number
generators step by step during encryption algorithms. According to
complexity of the proposed algorithm, it was safer than any other
method.
Abstract: From the beginning of creation, human being has ever
fought against the ecosystem by changes has made in environment.
The most environmental changes on the nature have been done after
starting the concentrated life in the same region. Dams are one of the
most important buildings in water resources and transferring. These
buildings have been made from old times without access to
hydrological, hydraulically, hydro mechanical information. Dams
have positive and negative effects on environment. Constructing a
dam relatively causes equal ecological consequences. According to
different criteria, environmental effects of dams can lead short term
and long term damages. These effects may influence on the situation
and treatment of meteorology, biology, culture, ancient works, etc
and severely causes to change and complicate it. So considering
importance of positive effects of dam construction, it is necessary to
minimize negative environmental effects of dams to achieve a stable
development. In this article the considered effects and their solutions
in influencing on assessment of destructive environmental effects of
dams construction have been surveyed and presented.
Abstract: A model of (4, 4) single-walled boron-nitride nanotube as a representative of armchair boron-nitride nanotubes studied. At first the structure optimization performed and then Nuclear Magnetic Resonance parameters (NMR) by Density Functional Theory (DFT) method at 11B and 15N nuclei calculated. Resulted parameters evaluation presents electrostatic environment heterogeneity along the nanotube and especially at the ends but the nuclei in a layer feel the same electrostatic environment. All of calculations carried out using Gaussian 98 Software package.
Abstract: Unsteady magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) boundary
layer flow and heat transfer over a continuously stretching surface in
the presence of radiation is examined. By similarity transformation,
the governing partial differential equations are transformed to a set of
ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions are obtained by
employing the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method scheme with shooting
technique in Maple software environment. The effects of
unsteadiness parameter, radiation parameter, magnetic parameter and
Prandtl number on the heat transfer characteristics are obtained and
discussed. It is found that the heat transfer rate at the surface
increases as the Prandtl number and unsteadiness parameter increase
but decreases with magnetic and radiation parameter.
Abstract: A high performance thin layer chromatography
system (HPTLC) for the separation of vitamin B2 and B12 has been
developed. The separation was successfully using a solvent system of
methanol, water, ammonia 7.3.1 (V/V) as mobile phase on HPTLC
plates impregnated with boric acid. The effect of other mobile phases
on the separation of vitamins was also examined. The method is
based on different behavior of investigated compounds in
impregnated TLC plates with different amount of boric acid. The Rf
values of vitamin B2 and B12 are considered on non impregnated
and impregnated silica gel HPTLC plate with boric acid. The effect
of boric acid in the mobile phase and on HPTLC plates on the RF
values of the vitamins has also been studied.
Abstract: In this paper an efficient incomplete factorization preconditioner is proposed for the Least Mean Squares (LMS) adaptive filter. The proposed preconditioner is approximated from a priori knowledge of the factors of input correlation matrix with an incomplete strategy, motivated by the sparsity patter of the upper triangular factor in the QRD-RLS algorithm. The convergence properties of IPLMS algorithm are comparable with those of transform domain LMS(TDLMS) algorithm. Simulation results show efficiency and robustness of the proposed algorithm with reduced computational complexity.
Abstract: Product Data Management (PDM) systems for Computer
Aided Design (CAD) file management are widely established
in design processes. This management system is indispensable for
design collaboration or when design task distribution is present. It is
thus surprising that engineering design curricula has not paid much
attention in the education of PDM systems. This is also the case
for eduction of ecodesign and environmental evaluation of products.
With the rise of sustainability as a strategic aspect in companies,
environmental concerns are becoming a key issue in design. This
paper discusses the establishment of a PDM platform to be used
among technical and vocational schools in Austria. The PDM system
facilitates design collaboration among these schools. Further, it will
be discussed how the PDM system has been prepared in order to
facilitate environmental evaluation of parts, components and subassemblies
of a product. By integrating a Business Intelligence
solution, environmental Life Cycle Assessment and communication
of results is enabled.
Abstract: This paper will focus on modeling, analysis and simulation of a 42V/14V dc/dc converter based architecture. This architecture is considered to be technically a viable solution for automotive dual-voltage power system for passenger car in the near further. An interleaved dc/dc converter system is chosen for the automotive converter topology due to its advantages regarding filter reduction, dynamic response, and power management. Presented herein, is a model based on one kilowatt interleaved six-phase buck converter designed to operate in a Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM). The control strategy of the converter is based on a voltagemode- controlled Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) with a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID). The effectiveness of the interleaved step-down converter is verified through simulation results using control-oriented simulator, MatLab/Simulink.
Abstract: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were
performed to compute nitrogen-14 and boron-11 nuclear quadrupole
resonance (NQR) spectroscopy parameters in the representative
model of armchair boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) for the first time.
The considered model consisting of 1 nm length of H-capped (5, 5)
single-wall BNNT were first allowed to fully relax and then the NQR
calculations were carried out on the geometrically optimized model.
The evaluated nuclear quadrupole coupling constants and asymmetry
parameters for the mentioned nuclei reveal that the model can be
divided into seven layers of nuclei with an equivalent electrostatic
environment where those nuclei at the ends of tubes have a very
strong electrostatic environment compared to the other nuclei along
the length of tubes. The calculations were performed via Gaussian 98
package of program.
Abstract: The Minimal Residual (MR) is modified for adaptive
filtering application. Three forms of MR based algorithm are
presented: i) the low complexity SPCG, ii) MREDSI, and iii)
MREDSII. The low complexity is a reduced complexity version of a
previously proposed SPCG algorithm. Approximations introduced
reduce the algorithm to an LMS type algorithm, but, maintain the
superior convergence of the SPCG algorithm. Both MREDSI and
MREDSII are MR based methods with Euclidean direction of search.
The choice of Euclidean directions is shown via simulation to give
better misadjustment compared to their gradient search counterparts.
Abstract: In this paper we present an approach for 3D face
recognition based on extracting principal components of range
images by utilizing modified PCA methods namely 2DPCA and
bidirectional 2DPCA also known as (2D) 2 PCA.A preprocessing
stage was implemented on the images to smooth them using median
and Gaussian filtering. In the normalization stage we locate the nose
tip to lay it at the center of images then crop each image to a standard
size of 100*100. In the face recognition stage we extract the principal
component of each image using both 2DPCA and (2D) 2 PCA.
Finally, we use Euclidean distance to measure the minimum distance
between a given test image to the training images in the database. We
also compare the result of using both methods. The best result
achieved by experiments on a public face database shows that 83.3
percent is the rate of face recognition for a random facial expression.
Abstract: Infrastructure investments are important in developing
countries, it will not only help to foster the economic growth of a
nation, but it will also act as a platform in which new forms of
partnership and collaboration can be developed mainly in East Asian
countries. Since the last two decades, many infrastructure projects
had been completed through build-operate-transfer (BOT) type of
procurement. The developments of BOT have attracted participation
of local and foreign private sector investor to secure funding and to
deliver projects on time, within the budget and to the required
specifications. Private sectors are preferred by the government in
East Asia to participate in BOT projects due to lack of public
funding. The finding has resulted that the private sector or promoter
of the BOT projects is exposed to multiple risks which have been
discussed in this paper. Effective risk management methods and
good managerial skills are required in ensuring the success of the
project. The review indicated that mitigation measures should be
employed by the promoter throughout the concession period and
support from the host government is also required in ensuring the
success of the BOT project.
Abstract: In this paper we compare the response of linear and
nonlinear neural network-based prediction schemes in prediction of
received Signal-to-Interference Power Ratio (SIR) in Direct
Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS/CDMA) systems. The
nonlinear predictor is Multilayer Perceptron MLP and the linear
predictor is an Adaptive Linear (Adaline) predictor. We solve the
problem of complexity by using the Minimum Mean Squared Error
(MMSE) principle to select the optimal predictors. The optimized
Adaline predictor is compared to optimized MLP by employing
noisy Rayleigh fading signals with 1.8 GHZ carrier frequency in an
urban environment. The results show that the Adaline predictor can
estimates SIR with the same error as MLP when the user has the
velocity of 5 km/h and 60 km/h but by increasing the velocity up-to
120 km/h the mean squared error of MLP is two times more than
Adaline predictor. This makes the Adaline predictor (with lower
complexity) more suitable than MLP for closed-loop power control
where efficient and accurate identification of the time-varying
inverse dynamics of the multi path fading channel is required.
Abstract: Different numerical methods are employed and developed for simulating interfacial flows. A large range of applications belong to this group, e.g. two-phase flows of air bubbles in water or water drops in air. In such problems surface tension effects often play a dominant role. In this paper, various models of surface tension force for interfacial flows, the CSF, CSS, PCIL and SGIP models have been applied to simulate the motion of small air bubbles in water and the results were compared and reviewed. It has been pointed out that by using SGIP or PCIL models, we are able to simulate bubble rise and obtain results in close agreement with the experimental data.
Abstract: Real-time object tracking is a problem which involves extraction of critical information from complex and uncertain imagedata. In this paper, we present a comprehensive methodology to design an artificial neural network (ANN) for a real-time object tracking application. The object, which is tracked for the purpose of demonstration, is a specific airplane. However, the proposed ANN can be trained to track any other object of interest. The ANN has been simulated and tested on the training and testing datasets, as well as on a real-time streaming video. The tracking error is analyzed with post-regression analysis tool, which finds the correlation among the calculated coordinates and the correct coordinates of the object in the image. The encouraging results from the computer simulation and analysis show that the proposed ANN architecture is a good candidate solution to a real-time object tracking problem.
Abstract: Safer driver behavior promoting is the main goal of this paper. It is a fact that drivers behavior is relatively safer when being monitored. Thus, in this paper, we propose a monitoring system to report specific driving event as well as the potentially aggressive events for estimation of the driving performance. Our driving monitoring system is composed of two parts. The first part is the in-vehicle embedded system which is composed of a GPS receiver, a two-axis accelerometer, radar sensor, OBD interface, and GPRS modem. The design considerations that led to this architecture is described in this paper. The second part is a web server where an adaptive hierarchical fuzzy system is proposed to classify the driving performance based on the data that is sent by the in-vehicle embedded system and the data that is provided by the geographical information system (GIS). Our system is robust, inexpensive and small enough to fit inside a vehicle without distracting the driver.
Abstract: An acyclic coloring of a graph G is a coloring of its
vertices such that:(i) no two neighbors in G are assigned the same
color and (ii) no bicolored cycle can exist in G. The acyclic chromatic
number of G is the least number of colors necessary to acyclically
color G. Recently it has been proved that any graph of maximum
degree 5 has an acyclic chromatic number at most 8. In this paper
we present another proof for this result.
