Abstract: Improving the reactive power and voltage profile of a
distribution substation is investigated in this paper. The purpose is to
properly determination of the shunt capacitors on/off status and
suitable tap changer (TC) position of a substation transformer. In
addition, the limitation of secondary bus voltage, the maximum
allowable number of switching operation in a day for on load tap
changer and on/off status of capacitors are taken into account. To
achieve these goals, an artificial neural network (ANN) is designed to
provide preliminary scheduling. Input of ANN is active and reactive
powers of transformer and its primary and secondary bus voltages.
The output of ANN is capacitors on/off status and TC position. The
preliminary schedule is further refined by fuzzy dynamic
programming in order to reach the final schedule. The operation of
proposed method in Q/V improving is compared with the results
obtained by operator operation in a distribution substation.
Abstract: Given a parallel program to be executed on a heterogeneous
computing system, the overall execution time of the program
is determined by a schedule. In this paper, we analyze the worst-case
performance of the list scheduling algorithm for scheduling tasks
of a parallel program in a mixed-machine heterogeneous computing
system such that the total execution time of the program is minimized.
We prove tight lower and upper bounds for the worst-case
performance ratio of the list scheduling algorithm. We also examine
the average-case performance of the list scheduling algorithm. Our
experimental data reveal that the average-case performance of the list
scheduling algorithm is much better than the worst-case performance
and is very close to optimal, except for large systems with large
heterogeneity. Thus, the list scheduling algorithm is very useful in
real applications.
Abstract: We present an operator for a propositional linear temporal logic over infinite schedules of iterated transactions, which, when applied to a formula, asserts that any schedule satisfying the formula is serializable. The resulting logic is suitable for specifying and verifying consistency properties of concurrent transaction management systems, that can be defined in terms of serializability, as well as other general safety and liveness properties. A strict form of serializability is used requiring that, whenever the read and write steps of a transaction occurrence precede the read and write steps of another transaction occurrence in a schedule, the first transaction must precede the second transaction in an equivalent serial schedule. This work improves on previous work in providing a propositional temporal logic with a serializability operator that is of the same PSPACE complete computational complexity as standard propositional linear temporal logic without a serializability operator.
Abstract: This study considers the problem of determining
operation and maintenance schedules for a containership equipped
with components during its sailing according to a pre-determined
navigation schedule. The operation schedule, which specifies work
time of each component, determines the due-date of each maintenance
activity, and the maintenance schedule specifies the actual start
time of each maintenance activity. The main constraints are component
requirements, workforce availability, working time limitation,
and inter-maintenance time. To represent the problem mathematically,
a mixed integer programming model is developed. Then,
due to the problem complexity, we suggest a heuristic for the objective
of minimizing the sum of earliness and tardiness between the
due-date and the starting time of each maintenance activity. Computational
experiments were done on various test instances and the
results are reported.
Abstract: Optimal reactive power flow is an optimization problem
with one or more objective of minimizing the active power losses for
fixed generation schedule. The control variables are generator bus
voltages, transformer tap settings and reactive power output of the
compensating devices placed on different bus bars. Biogeography-
Based Optimization (BBO) technique has been applied to solve
different kinds of optimal reactive power flow problems subject
to operational constraints like power balance constraint, line flow
and bus voltages limits etc. BBO searches for the global optimum
mainly through two steps: Migration and Mutation. In the present
work, BBO has been applied to solve the optimal reactive power
flow problems on IEEE 30-bus and standard IEEE 57-bus power
systems for minimization of active power loss. The superiority of the
proposed method has been demonstrated. Considering the quality of
the solution obtained, the proposed method seems to be a promising
one for solving these problems.
Abstract: This study proposes a hybrid minimal repair policy
which combines periodic maintenance policy with age-based maintenance policy for a serial production system. Parameters of such policy are defined as and which indicate as hybrid minimal
repair time and planned preventive maintenance time
respectively . Under this hybrid policy, the system is
repaired minimally if it fails during ,. A perfect repair is
conducted on the first failure after at any machines. At the same time, we take opportunity to advance the preventive maintenance of
other machines simultaneously. If the system is still operating
properly up to , then the preventive maintenance is carried out as its
predetermined schedule. For a given , we obtain the optimal value which minimizes the expected cost per time unit. Numerical
example is presented to illustrate the properties of the optimal solution.
Abstract: The performance of schedules released to a shop floor may greatly be affected by unexpected disruptions. Thus, this paper considers the flexible job shop scheduling problem when processing times of some operations are represented by a uniform distribution with given lower and upper bounds. The objective is to find a predictive schedule that can deal with this uncertainty. The paper compares two genetic approaches to obtain predictive schedule. To determine the performance of the predictive schedules obtained by both approaches, an experimental study is conducted on a number of benchmark problems.
