Abstract: Medical Image fusion plays a vital role in medical
field to diagnose the brain tumors which can be classified as benign
or malignant. It is the process of integrating multiple images of the
same scene into a single fused image to reduce uncertainty and
minimizing redundancy while extracting all the useful information
from the source images. Fuzzy logic is used to fuse two brain MRI
images with different vision. The fused image will be more
informative than the source images. The texture and wavelet features
are extracted from the fused image. The multilevel Adaptive Neuro
Fuzzy Classifier classifies the brain tumors based on trained and
tested features. The proposed method achieved 80.48% sensitivity,
99.9% specificity and 99.69% accuracy. Experimental results
obtained from fusion process prove that the use of the proposed
image fusion approach shows better performance while compared
with conventional fusion methodologies.
Abstract: We describe a relationship between integral images and
differential images. First, we derive a simple difference filter from
conventional integral image. In the derivation, we show that an
integral image and the corresponding differential image are related
to each other by simultaneous linear equations, where the numbers
of unknowns and equations are the same, and therefore, we can
execute the integration and differentiation by solving the simultaneous
equations. We applied the relationship to an image fusion problem,
and experimentally verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Abstract: We present a method for dehazing images. A dark
envelope image is derived with the bilateral minimum filter and a
bright envelope is derived with the bilateral maximum filter. The
ambient light and transmission of the scene are estimated from these
two envelope images. An image without haze is reconstructed from
the estimated ambient light and transmission.
Abstract: The paper focuses on the problem of the point
correspondence matching in stereo images. The proposed matching
algorithm is based on the combination of simpler methods such as
normalized sum of squared differences (NSSD) and a more complex
phase correlation based approach, by considering the noise and other
factors, as well. The speed of NSSD and the preciseness of the
phase correlation together yield an efficient approach to find the best
candidate point with sub-pixel accuracy in stereo image pairs. The
task of the NSSD in this case is to approach the candidate pixel
roughly. Afterwards the location of the candidate is refined by an
enhanced phase correlation based method which in contrast to the
NSSD has to run only once for each selected pixel.
Abstract: This paper describes a cycle accurate simulation results of weight values learned by an auto-encoder behavior model in terms of pre-route simulation. Given the results we visualized the first layer representations with natural images. Many common deep learning threads have focused on learning high-level abstraction of unlabeled raw data by unsupervised feature learning. However, in the process of handling such a huge amount of data, the learning method’s computation complexity and time limited advanced research. These limitations came from the fact these algorithms were computed by using only single core CPUs. For this reason, parallel-based hardware, FPGAs, was seen as a possible solution to overcome these limitations. We adopted and simulated the ready-made auto-encoder to design a behavior model in VerilogHDL before designing hardware. With the auto-encoder behavior model pre-route simulation, we obtained the cycle accurate results of the parameter of each hidden layer by using MODELSIM. The cycle accurate results are very important factor in designing a parallel-based digital hardware. Finally this paper shows an appropriate operation of behavior model based pre-route simulation. Moreover, we visualized learning latent representations of the first hidden layer with Kyoto natural image dataset.
Abstract: Fragile watermarking has been proposed as a means
of adding additional security or functionality to biometric systems,
particularly for authentication and tamper detection. In this paper
we describe an experimental study on the effect of watermarking
iris images with a particular class of fragile algorithm, reversible
algorithms, and the ability to correctly perform iris recognition.
We investigate two scenarios, matching watermarked images
to unmodified images, and matching watermarked images to
watermarked images. We show that different watermarking schemes
give very different results for a given capacity, highlighting the
importance ofinvestigation. At high embedding rates most algorithms
cause significant reduction in recognition performance. However,
in many cases, for low embedding rates, recognition accuracy is
improved by the watermarking process.
Abstract: This paper discusses on power spectral density (PSD) characteristics which are extracted from three-dimensional (3D) electroencephalogram (EEG) models. The EEG signal recording was conducted on 150 healthy subjects. Development of 3D EEG models involves pre-processing of raw EEG signals and construction of spectrogram images. Then, the values of maximum PSD were extracted as features from the model. These features are analyzed using mean relative power (MRP) and different mean relative power (DMRP) technique to observe the pattern among different brain balancing indexes. The results showed that by implementing these techniques, the pattern of brain balancing indexes can be clearly observed. Some patterns are indicates between index 1 to index 5 for left frontal (LF) and right frontal (RF).
Abstract: Medical image analysis is one of the great effects of computer image processing. There are several processes to analysis the medical images which the segmentation process is one of the challenging and most important step. In this paper the segmentation method proposed in order to segment the dental radiograph images. Thresholding method has been applied to simplify the images and to morphologically open binary image technique performed to eliminate the unnecessary regions on images. Furthermore, horizontal and vertical integral projection techniques used to extract the each individual tooth from radiograph images. Segmentation process has been done by applying the level set method on each extracted images. Nevertheless, the experiments results by 90% accuracy demonstrate that proposed method achieves high accuracy and promising result.
Abstract: Reversible watermarking that not only protects the copyright but also preserve the original quality of the digital content have been intensively studied. In particular, the demand for reversible watermarking has increased. In this paper, we propose a reversible watermarking scheme based on interpolation-error shifting and error pre-compensation. The intensity of a pixel is interpolated from the intensities of neighboring pixels, and the difference histogram between the interpolated and the original intensities is obtained and modified to embed the watermark message. By restoring the difference histogram, the embedded watermark is extracted and the original image is recovered by compensating for the interpolation error. The overflow and underflow are prevented by error pre-compensation. To show the performance of the method, the proposed algorithm is compared with other methods using various test images.
Abstract: Reversible watermarking is a special branch of image watermarking, that is able to recover the original image after extracting the watermark from the image. In this paper, an adaptive prediction-based reversible watermarking scheme is presented, in order to increase the payload capacity of MRI medical images. The scheme divides the image into two parts, Region of Interest (ROI) and Region of Non-Interest (RONI). Two bits are embedded in each embeddable pixel of RONI and one bit is embedded in each embeddable pixel of ROI. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is able to achieve high embedding capacity. This is mainly caused by two reasons. First, the pixels that were excluded from data embedding due to overflow/underflow are used for data embedding. Second, large location map that need to be added to watermark data as overhead is eliminated and thus lower data embedding capacity is prevented. Moreover, the scheme provides good visual quality to the watermarked image.
Abstract: This paper proposes a way of removing noises and reducing the number of colors contained in a JPEG image. Main purpose of this project is to convert color images to monochrome images for the color-blind. We treat the crispy color images like the Tokyo subway map. Each color in the image has an important information. But for the color blinds, similar colors cannot be distinguished. If we can convert those colors to different gray values, they can distinguish them. Therefore we try to convert color images to monochrome images.
Abstract: This paper introduces an image denoising algorithm based on generalized Srivastava-Owa fractional differential operator for removing Gaussian noise in digital images. The structures of nxn fractional masks are constructed by this algorithm. Experiments show that, the capability of the denoising algorithm by fractional differential-based approach appears efficient to smooth the Gaussian noisy images for different noisy levels. The denoising performance is measured by using peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) for the denoising images. The results showed an improved performance (higher PSNR values) when compared with standard Gaussian smoothing filter.
Abstract: Feature extraction plays an important role in many remote sensing applications. Automatic extraction of water bodies is of great significance in many remote sensing applications like change detection, image retrieval etc. This paper presents a procedure for automatic extraction of water information from remote sensing images. The algorithm uses the relative location of R color component of the chromaticity diagram. This method is then integrated with the effectiveness of the spatial scale transformation of whole method. The whole method is based on water index fitted from spectral library. Experimental results demonstrate the improved accuracy and effectiveness of the integrated method for automatic extraction of water bodies.
Abstract: This paper proposes a data-driven, biology-inspired neural segmentation method of 3D drosophila Brainbow images. We use Bayesian Sequential Partitioning algorithm for probabilistic modeling, which can be used to detect somas and to eliminate
crosstalk effects. This work attempts to develop an automatic methodology for neuron image segmentation, which nowadays still
lacks a complete solution due to the complexity of the image. The proposed method does not need any predetermined, risk-prone thresholds, since biological information is inherently included inside the image processing procedure. Therefore, it is less sensitive to variations in neuron morphology; meanwhile, its flexibility would be beneficial for tracing the intertwining structure of neurons.
Abstract: Metal working fluids were used in the preparation of oil in water emulsions. The size of oil droplets were evaluated by using the analysis of video images taken from the zeta potential measurements. The evaluated size distributions for emulsions were also tested by microscopic analysis. In addition, emulsion stabilities were discussed depending on electrolyte concentration and pH. The results showed that the stability of oil emulsions was strongly related to pH and the concentration of CaCl2. However, the same dependency was not observed for NaCl.
Abstract: Red blood cells (RBCs) are among the most
commonly and intensively studied type of blood cells in cell biology.
Anemia is a lack of RBCs is characterized by its level compared to
the normal hemoglobin level. In this study, a system based image
processing methodology was developed to localize and extract RBCs
from microscopic images. Also, the machine learning approach is
adopted to classify the localized anemic RBCs images. Several
textural and geometrical features are calculated for each extracted
RBCs. The training set of features was analyzed using principal
component analysis (PCA). With the proposed method, RBCs were
isolated in 4.3secondsfrom an image containing 18 to 27 cells. The
reasons behind using PCA are its low computation complexity and
suitability to find the most discriminating features which can lead to
accurate classification decisions. Our classifier algorithm yielded
accuracy rates of 100%, 99.99%, and 96.50% for K-nearest neighbor
(K-NN) algorithm, support vector machine (SVM), and neural
network RBFNN, respectively. Classification was evaluated in highly
sensitivity, specificity, and kappa statistical parameters. In
conclusion, the classification results were obtained within short time
period, and the results became better when PCA was used.
Abstract: Object identification and segmentation application requires extraction of object in foreground from the background. In this paper the Bhattacharya distance based probabilistic approach is utilized with an active contour model (ACM) to segment an object from the background. In the proposed approach, the Bhattacharya histogram is calculated on non-linear structure tensor space. Based on the histogram, new formulation of active contour model is proposed to segment images. The results are tested on both color and gray images from the Berkeley image database. The experimental results show that the proposed model is applicable to both color and gray images as well as both texture images and natural images. Again in comparing to the Bhattacharya based ACM in ICA space, the proposed model is able to segment multiple object too.

Abstract: In this paper, 3D image based composite unit cell is constructed from high resolution tomographic images. Through-thickness thermal diffusivity and in-plane Young’s modulus are predicted for the composite unit cell. The accuracy of the image based composite unit cell is tested by comparing its results with the experimental results obtained from laser flash and tensile test. The FE predictions are in close agreement with experimental results. Through-thickness thermal diffusivity and in-plane Young’s modulus of a virgin C/C composite are predicted by replacing the properties of air (porosity) with the properties of carbon matrix. The effect of porosity was found to be more profound on thermal diffusivity than young’s modulus.
Abstract: Breast Cancer is the most common malignancy in women and the second leading cause of death for women all over the world. Earlier the detection of cancer, better the treatment. The diagnosis and treatment of the cancer rely on segmentation of Sonoelastographic images. Texture features has not considered for Sonoelastographic segmentation. Sonoelastographic images of 15 patients containing both benign and malignant tumorsare considered for experimentation. The images are enhanced to remove noise in order to improve contrast and emphasize tumor boundary. It is then decomposed into sub-bands using single level Daubechies wavelets varying from single co-efficient to six coefficients. The Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Local Binary Pattern (LBP) features are extracted and then selected by ranking it using Sequential Floating Forward Selection (SFFS) technique from each sub-band. The resultant images undergo K-Means clustering and then few post-processing steps to remove the false spots. The tumor boundary is detected from the segmented image. It is proposed that Local Binary Pattern (LBP) from the vertical coefficients of Daubechies wavelet with two coefficients is best suited for segmentation of Sonoelastographic breast images among the wavelet members using one to six coefficients for decomposition. The results are also quantified with the help of an expert radiologist. The proposed work can be used for further diagnostic process to decide if the segmented tumor is benign or malignant.
