Abstract: The vast majority of existing underground railway lines consist of twin tunnels. In this paper, the dynamic interaction between two neighboring tunnels in a layered half-space is investigated by an analytical model. The two tunnels are modelled as cylindrical thin shells, while the soil in the form of a layered half-space with two cylindrical cavities is simulated by the elastic continuum theory. The transfer matrix method is first used to derive the relationship between the plane wave vectors in arbitrary layers and the source layer. Thereafter, the wave translation and transformation are introduced to determine the plane and cylindrical wave vectors in the source layer. The solution for the dynamic interaction between twin tunnels in a layered half-space is obtained by means of the compatibility of displacements and equilibrium of stresses on the two tunnel–soil interfaces. By coupling the proposed model with a fully track model, the train-induced vibrations from twin tunnels in a multi-layered half-space are investigated. The numerical results demonstrate that the existence of a neighboring tunnel has a significant effect on ground vibrations.
Abstract: Team pursuit is a relatively new event in international
long track speed skating. For a single speed skater the aerodynamic
drag will account for up to 80% of the braking force, thus reducing
the drag can greatly improve the performance. In a team pursuit the
interactions between athletes in near proximity will also be essential,
but is not well studied. In this study, systematic measurements
of the aerodynamic drag, body posture and relative positioning
of speed skaters have been performed in the low speed wind
tunnel at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, in
order to investigate the aerodynamic interaction between two speed
skaters. Drag measurements of static speed skaters drafting, leading,
side-by-side, and dynamic drag measurements in a synchronized and
unsynchronized movement at different distances, were performed.
The projected frontal area was measured for all postures and
movements and a blockage correction was performed, as the blockage
ratio ranged from 5-15% in the different setups. The static drag
measurements where performed on two test subjects in two different
postures, a low posture and a high posture, and two different distances
between the test subjects 1.5T and 3T where T being the length of the
torso (T=0.63m). A drag reduction was observed for all distances and
configurations, from 39% to 11.4%, for the drafting test subject. The
drag of the leading test subject was only influenced at -1.5T, with
the biggest drag reduction of 5.6%. An increase in drag was seen
for all side-by-side measurements, the biggest increase was observed
to be 25.7%, at the closest distance between the test subjects, and
the lowest at 2.7% with ∼ 0.7 m between the test subjects. A clear
aerodynamic interaction between the test subjects and their postures
was observed for most measurements during static measurements,
with results corresponding well to recent studies. For the dynamic
measurements, the leading test subject had a drag reduction of 3%
even at -3T. The drafting showed a drag reduction of 15% when being
in a synchronized (sync) motion with the leading test subject at 4.5T.
The maximal drag reduction for both the leading and the drafting
test subject were observed when being as close as possible in sync,
with a drag reduction of 8.5% and 25.7% respectively. This study
emphasize the importance of keeping a synchronized movement by
showing that the maximal gain for the leading and drafting dropped to
3.2% and 3.3% respectively when the skaters are in opposite phase.
Individual differences in technique also appear to influence the drag
of the other test subject.
Abstract: Nowadays innovation represents a challenge crucial to remaining globally competitive. This study seeks to develop a conceptual model aimed at measuring the dynamic interactions of the triple/quadruple helix, balancing innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives as pillars of regional competitiveness – the Regional Helix Scoreboard (RHS). To this aim, different strands of literature are identified according to their focus on specific regional competitiveness governance mechanisms. We put forward an overview of the state-of-the-art of research and is duly assessed in order to develop and propose a framework of analysis that enables an integrated approach in the context of collaborative dynamics. We conclude by presenting the RHS for the study of regional competitiveness dynamics, which integrates and associates different backgrounds and identifies a number of key performance indicators for research challenges.
Abstract: It is known that stationary human occupants act as dynamic mass-spring-damper systems and can change the modal properties of civil engineering structures. This paper describes the full scale measurement to explain the tuned mass damper effects of stationary people on structural damping of footbridge with center span length of 33 m. A human body can be represented by a lumped system consisting of masses, springs, and dashpots. Complex eigenvalue calculation is also conducted by using ISO5982:1981 human model (two degree of freedom system). Based on experimental and analytical results for the footbridge with the stationary people in the standing position, it is demonstrated that stationary people behave as a tuned mass damper and that ISO5982:1981 human model can explain the structural damping characteristics measured in the field.
Abstract: In the current paper, a domain independent conduction model compatible for multi-physical system dynamic investigations is suggested. By means of a port-based approach, a classical nonlinear conduction model containing physical states is first represented. A compatible discrete configuration of the thermal domain in line with the elastic domain is then generated through the enhancement of the configuration of the conventional thermal element. The presented simulation results of a sample structure indicate that the suggested conductive model can cover a wide range of dynamic behavior of the thermal domain.
Abstract: Grid connection of a large-scale wind farm affects power system small-signal angular stability in two aspects. Firstly, connection of the wind farm brings about the change of load flow and configuration of a power system. Secondly, the dynamic interaction is introduced by the wind farm with the synchronous generators (SGs) in the power system. This paper proposes a method to assess the two aspects of the effect of the wind farm on power system small-signal angular stability. The effect of the change of load flow/system configuration brought about by the wind farm can be examined separately by displacing wind farms with constant power sources, then the effect of the dynamic interaction of the wind farm with the SGs can be also computed individually. Thus, a clearer picture and better understanding on the power system small-signal angular stability as affected by grid connection of the large-scale wind farm are provided. In the paper, an example power system with grid connection of a wind farm is presented to demonstrate the proposed approach.
Abstract: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) allows modeling of dynamic interaction between incongruous providers, which enables governing the development of complex applications. However, implementation of SOA comes with some challenges, including its adaptability and robustness. Dynamism is inherent to the nature of service based applications and of their running environment. These factors lead to necessity for dynamic adaptation. In this paper we try to describe basics and main structure of SOA adaptation process with a conceptual view to this issue. In this survey we will review the relevant adaptation approaches. This paper allows studying how different approaches deal with service oriented architecture adaptation life-cycle and provides basic guidelines for their analysis, evaluation and comparison.
Abstract: MM-Path, an acronym for Method/Message Path, describes the dynamic interactions between methods in object-oriented systems. This paper discusses the classifications of MM-Path, based on the characteristics of object-oriented software. We categorize it according to the generation reasons, the effect scope and the composition of MM-Path. A formalized representation of MM-Path is also proposed, which has considered the influence of state on response method sequences of messages. .Moreover, an automatic MM-Path generation approach based on UML Statechart diagram has been presented, and the difficulties in identifying and generating MM-Path can be solved. . As a result, it provides a solid foundation for further research on test cases generation based on MM-Path.
Abstract: Studies in economics domain tried to reveal the correlation between stock markets. Since the globalization era, interdependence between stock markets becomes more obvious. The Dynamic Interaction Network (DIN) algorithm, which was inspired by a Gene Regulatory Network (GRN) extraction method in the bioinformatics field, is applied to reveal important and complex dynamic relationship between stock markets. We use the data of the stock market indices from eight countries around the world in this study. Our results conclude that DIN is able to reveal and model patterns of dynamic interaction from the observed variables (i.e. stock market indices). Furthermore, it is also found that the extracted network models can be utilized to predict movement of the stock market indices with a considerably good accuracy.
Abstract: The interactions between input/output variables are a very common phenomenon encountered in the design of multi-loop controllers for interacting multivariable processes, which can be a serious obstacle for achieving a good overall performance of multiloop control system. To overcome this impediment, the decomposed dynamic interaction analysis is proposed by decomposing the multiloop control system into a set of n independent SISO systems with the corresponding effective open-loop transfer function (EOTF) within the dynamic interactions embedded explicitly. For each EOTF, the reduced model is independently formulated by using the proposed reduction design strategy, and then the paired multi-loop proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is derived quite simply and straightforwardly by using internal model control (IMC) theory. This design method can easily be implemented for various industrial processes because of its effectiveness. Several case studies are considered to demonstrate the superior of the proposed method.
Abstract: Linear stability analysis of wake-shear layers in twophase
shallow flows is performed in the present paper. Twodimensional
shallow water equations are used in the analysis. It is
assumed that the fluid contains uniformly distributed solid particles.
No dynamic interaction between the carrier fluid and particles is
expected in the initial moment. The stability calculations are
performed for different values of the particle loading parameter and
two other parameters which characterize the velocity ratio and the
velocity deficit. The results show that the particle loading parameter
has a stabilizing effect on the flow while the increase in the velocity
ratio or in the velocity deficit destabilizes the flow.
Abstract: To understand the seismic behavior of the offshore
structures, the dynamic interaction of the water-structure-soil should
be assessed. In this regard the role of the water dynamic properties in
magnifying or reducing of the effects of earthquake induced motions
on offshore structures haven't been investigated in precise manner in
available literature. In this paper the sea water level fluctuations
effects on the seismic behavior of a sample of offshore structures has
been investigated by emphasizing on the water-structure interaction
phenomenon. For this purpose a two dimensional finite element
model of offshore structures as well as surrounded water has been
developed using ANSYS software. The effect of soil interaction with
embedded pile foundation has been imposed by using a series of
nonlinear springs in horizontal and vertical directions in soil-piles
contact points. In the model, the earthquake induced motions have
been applied on springs and consequently the motions propagated
upward to the structure and surrounded water. As a result of
numerical study, the horizontal deformations of the offshore deck as
well as internal force and buckling coefficient in structural elements
have been recorded and controlled with and without water presence.
In part of study a parametric study has been accomplished on sea
water level fluctuations and effect of this parameter has been studied
on the aforementioned numerical results.
Abstract: A new mechanism responsible for structural life
consumption due to resonant fatigue in turbine blades, or vanes, is
presented and explained. A rotating blade or vane in a gas turbine can
change its contour due to erosion and/or material build up, in any of
these instances, the surface pressure distribution occurring on the
suction and pressure sides of blades-vanes can suffer substantial
modification of their pressure and temperatures envelopes and flow
characteristics. Meanwhile, the relative rotation between the blade
and duct vane while the pressurized gas flows and the consequent
wake crossings, will induce a fluctuating thrust force or lift that will
excite the blade.
An actual totally used up set of vane-blade components in a HP
turbine power stage in a gas turbine is analyzed. The blade suffered
some material erosion mostly at the trailing edge provoking a
peculiar surface pressure envelope which evolved as the relative
position between the vane and the blade passed in front of each other.
Interestingly preliminary modal analysis for this eroded blade
indicates several natural frequencies within the aeromechanic power
spectrum, moreover, the highest frequency component is 94% of one
natural frequency indicating near resonant condition.

Abstract: Human activities are increasingly based on the use of remote resources and services, and on the interaction between
remotely located parties that may know little about each other. Mobile agents must be prepared to execute on different hosts with
various environmental security conditions. The aim of this paper is to
propose a trust based mechanism to improve the security of mobile
agents and allow their execution in various environments. Thus, an
adaptive trust mechanism is proposed. It is based on the dynamic interaction between the agent and the environment. Information
collected during the interaction enables generation of an environment
key. This key informs on the host-s trust degree and permits the mobile agent to adapt its execution. Trust estimation is based on
concrete parameters values. Thus, in case of distrust, the source of problem can be located and a mobile agent appropriate behavior can
be selected.
Abstract: Network-Centric Air Defense Missile Systems
(NCADMS) represents the superior development of the air defense
missile systems and has been regarded as one of the major research
issues in military domain at present. Due to lack of knowledge and
experience on NCADMS, modeling and simulation becomes an effective
approach to perform operational analysis, compared with
those equation based ones. However, the complex dynamic interactions
among entities and flexible architectures of NCADMS put forward
new requirements and challenges to the simulation framework
and models. ABS (Agent-Based Simulations) explicitly addresses
modeling behaviors of heterogeneous individuals. Agents have capability
to sense and understand things, make decisions, and act on the
environment. They can also cooperate with others dynamically to
perform the tasks assigned to them. ABS proves an effective approach
to explore the new operational characteristics emerging in
NCADMS. In this paper, based on the analysis of network-centric
architecture and new cooperative engagement strategies for
NCADMS, an agent-based simulation framework by expanding the
simulation framework in the so-called System Effectiveness Analysis
Simulation (SEAS) was designed. The simulation framework specifies
components, relationships and interactions between them, the
structure and behavior rules of an agent in NCADMS. Based on scenario
simulations, information and decision superiority and operational
advantages in NCADMS were analyzed; meanwhile some
suggestions were provided for its future development.
